Was experimenting with halftone effects after watching this video and it almost has spiderverse vibes honestly. I actually learned some neat things about why printers use CMYK instead of just CMY so I thought I'd share !!

So in our optimal little computer space, Cyan (0,255,255), Magenta (255,0,255) and Yellow (255,255,0) all multiplied together gives us a perfect black (0,0,0) Awesome! The issue is that ink colors irl arent exactly perfect like this, and color is a bit more complicated irl compared to how computers represent it, so they aren't the greatest at combining into black if they aren't those perfect CMY values:

(thats not even black, its a dark blue in the original image but dark colors just look so much richer)

An important step to make sure you arent doubling up on the black values though is to divide the image by it's own "value" (the max of all 3 color channels) that way the value is equal to 1 everywhere, and you're letting the black ink take care of the value on its own.

Now obviously the grids of dots cant be aligned perfectly with each other because you'd just get a bunch of black dots in unwanted areas, but if the grids are misaligned, then some dots become more prominent than others which tints the whole image. This was an issue because older printing methods didn't have great accuracy and these grids were often misaligned.

The solution was to rotate these grids such that they can move around freely while getting rid of that tint effect if they aren't perfectly aligned :D

(I have no idea how they came up with these angles but that might be something to look into in the future who knows)

SPEAKING OF MISALIGNMENT

I wanted to implement that in my own filter to get some cool effects, and I discovered another reason CMYK is better than CMY for lots of stuff !!

With CMY, you're relying on the combination of 3 color channels to make the color black. This means if you have thin lines or just details in general, misalignment can make those details very fuzzy. Since CMYK uses a single color of ink to handle value, it reduces color fringing and improves clarity a lot even if you have the exact same misalignment as CMY!

(yes these comparisons have the exact same color misalignment, the only difference is using a fourth ink color for black)

ANYWAY I just thought there was a lot of cool information in this tiny little day project, I also just think it looks really neat and wanted to share what I learned :3c

EDITING BECAUSE THERE'S ONE MORE THING I WANTED TO ADD

So, I talked about how to get K in addition to CMY instead of just CMY, but how exactly do you separate CMY from an image in the first place?

Well, CMY is a subtractive color space, meaning the "absence of color" is white, compared to RGB where it's black. This makes sense because ofc ink is printed on white paper. You can use dot product to get the "similarity" between two vectors, and this can be used to separate RGB actually! Using the dot product of a color and red (255,0,0) will give you just the red values of the image. This is cool though because if we get the dot product of our image and the color cyan (0,255,255), we can get the cyan values from our image too! If we first divide our colors by their value to separate the value from them, then separate CMY using those dot product values, and using K for our final black color value, our individual color passes end up looking like this:

While it's called a "subtractive" color space, I find it more intuitive to treat white as the absence of color here, and then multiply all these passes together. It makes it much easier to understand how the colors are combined imo. Notice how cyan is the opposite of red: (255,0,0) vs (0,255,255) and magenta and yellow are the opposites of green and blue respectively! This means you can actually kinda get away with separating the RGB values and just inverting some stuff to optimize this, but this example is much more intuitive and readable so I won't go too deep into that. i do want to say that despite the emotional rollercoaster that was this trial, and the frankly INCREDIBLY UNEXPECTED outcome, i did like it narratively. ik the decision of having okazakis character go this direction is gonna be incredibly controversial amongst the community but i really loved it. kamimuras death was almost meaningless, that’s tragic AS FUCK. but “meaningless” deaths happen. it’s not strange to kill off a character for no reason, because people die unfairly way more than we even want to think. and it SUCKS. it sucks SO BAD. but it’s not unrealistic. I think the unserious tone of Okazaki really made the tone of the entire series become even darker and more sinister. wow, anyways take what im saying here w a grain of salt bc im kinda hysterical rn so yeah.

01/05/25 vs 01/13/24 vs 01/09/23 vs 10/13/22 So I had made the first one as a sort of. vent at the time. There was a lot of stress on me that year and my mom had told me that by 18 I was going to get a job. The problem was my mental health was so far in the dumps im sure satan even saw it. I couldnt imagine handling it and ontop of that I never imagined myself living to even be 18. So I spent a good portion of the year anxious and by the end of it I made the first one. By 2023 I had to face the fact that I was 18 now. I was just a few days away from being 18 and that scared me. It was intimidating. Where the first one was me realizing and freezing up, the 2nd was me facing it. It was much closer now and I wanted to capture the feeling of everything crumbling mentally. I still wasnt in a good place. (I didnt end up getting a job.) By 2024 I was already super fucking tired and anxious. My mental health was getting better, sure, but my physical health was not. (Doesnt help i ended up hospitalized near the end of 2023 for internal bleeding) I hadnt even started medication till the end of 2024 for my depression and adhd and shit. Im still facing health problems and have to start therapy but. 2024 wa also when everyone was pushing and pulling me to do something I was not able to handle. I had my therapist and psychiatrist pushing me to go back to school and get my GED (i dropped out bc my mental health was so bad and online schooling was making it worse. I also kept getting into fights w my mom bc of my grades and it. wasnt good.) and then my psychiatrist and so many adults i had seen or talked to trying to push me to get a job (I dont have a car. Ubers are expensive. We are poor and have almost been kicked out several times for not making rent. I cannot physically handle walking for longer than 15 minutes or standing too. If I sit for too long my knees are in so much pain I cant stand i have to stretch them out for at least 5 minutes. Only jobs near me are ones that require physical labor.) And of course. My own anxiety and wanting to help financially but having no real way of doing it.

I was, and still am incapable. All I could do was watch. Things still felt like they were crumbling and breaking and my ability to hold it all together was fracturing and I didnt know what to do with myself. I still dont. I didnt expect to live past 18 and now im 19? What am i meant to do now? I cant picture what i want or should be doing in life. Its all just blank I felt and feel lost.

By this year so far, though, I've come to accept that I cant control everything. Im cracked and a mess and everything around me is holding on by a single wooden beam but I cant control it. Time will go on with or without my permission. I cant just hit a pause button my life, on time. It'll keep moving no matter what and I'm coming to accept that fact. I just have to move with the current, I cant stand still or I'll drown in it and freak out and. yk. Things dont feel so horrible anymore. Maybe this year I'll finally figure out what I want to do, who I want to be or who i AM. Even if I'm anxious I cant stop it all. The world doesnt revolve around me. Anyways that was a lot. Thats been my thought process throughout each version and the reasoning and context behind it. You can also see my art improve which is a fun little thing. Things are both overwhelmingly intimidating yet also calm. I have a printer now, maybe I can finally open a print shop and help with money that way + commissions. I have a plan and that's what matters.

The DPI Issue

Okay, I keep seeing and hearing folks talk about DPI and how important it is to set your digital canvas to 300 DPI without actually giving the full information.

Why am I qualified to talk about this?

I am a trained, certified photographer who trained with a school that specialises in printing and have been working in the field for 16 years. I am the designated digital file wrangler and printer at the studio I work for.

This is my job.

And I can tell you with pretty decent authority that most of the advice about the 300 DPI thing you have heard is barely half of what you need to know to use your DPI settings effectively.

I'm not blaming anyone giving the incomplete info because they probably don't know either, but LET'S DO THIS.

Let's start with clarifying what DPI is.

DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. That refers to the dots the printer makes per inch of paper. So 300 DPI makes 300 tiny lil ink dots per inch printed. So in a square inch we have 90.000 dots of ink. Thats a lot and definitely more than 5.184 you get at a print resolution of 72, right? Makes sense why the 300 would look better? I thought so.

Now, most printers will print at 300 DPI (a lot of higher quality professional printers even print at 360 DPI) regardless, but the software will try to upscale the image to 300 DPI (or 360 DPI, but upscaling from 300 to 360 isn't as big of a deal as from 72 to 300) and upscaling is always a bit of guesstimation and will most likely result in blurry or pixelated images.

Which is WHY everyone tells you to set your DPI to 300.

What they very often don't add is that THAT ONLY MATTERS IF YOU ALSO SET A PHYSICAL DIMENSION.

For example: 8 by 12 inches at 300 DPI.

That results in a canvas that is 2400 by 3600 pixels.

Because DPI is not actually a setting, per se. It is a conversion rate.

It is a number that tells you how to translate your pixels (dots) to physical dimensions (inches).

Changing the DPI to a higher number when you set a canvas size in pixels WILL NOT RESULT IN BETTER PRINT QUALITY.

If you set your canvas to 600 by 900 pixels no amount of setting your DPI to 300 will make this print at a higher quality. You can SET your DPI to 300, but if we were to print this canvas at 8 by 12 inches, you'd still only have a print resolution of about 75 DPI.

At 300 DPI that canvas only prints at 2 by 3 inches.

I will repeat again: DPI IS A CONVERSION RATE NOT A QUALITY SETTING!

If you always set your canvas size in pixels you can use the DPI as a way to calculate how big you can print your pieces without sacrificing quality, but setting a higher DPI won't increase print quality.

I am offering you all a look into Noelle's place. You might be wondering why I know what her place looks like, well the answer is that I was invited to her pad for an interview and it took me a while before I could show off her place. Had to get the photos transferred after all.

These are the plans for Noelle's place and as you can see, its massive as all hell.

This is the bathroom. Its VERY open as you can see and most of the ventilation comes from opening the windows. She has a few heated towel racks and a regular towel rack. She also has a bathtub that can fit both her and her lover. The shower is between the two windows as you can see, but it also has two heads, one that is handheld an one thats overhead and static.

Here we have the laundry and storage area. You also have the water heater too. This is where Noelle puts things in storage like food items or even seasonal clothing that she won't be wearing. Obviously she also does laundry here too.

THIS is the multipurpose living room, kitchen and dining room. Theres also a little bar counter near the kitchen for when Atalanta and her darling comes over, obviously for chatting and having a drink together. The dining table sits 6 people and the couch holds 4, or 2 if you're cuddling while laying down.

And now we hit her bedroom. She has a work area, a shelf with some of the awards she's won from her academics and such because she is a LOT smarter than most people think. Her little desk with her computer is often used for when she's working at home, she also has a printer for if she needs to print anything before she goes out. You can also see her large wardrobe and a little vanity mirror as well. She also has a LOVELY bed with two bedside tables. She also has two bookshelves by her computer, there are a variety of books from programming to psychology and even accounting. She also has novels too but I'm not allowed to talk about them.

And lastly is her walk in closet where she has a standing mirror and lots of clothing and outfits for when she plans to go out, whether its work or a date, she has an outfit for it and she'll look amazing.

First of all, damn her place is huge but you're so right. Atalanta absolutely makes sure that Noelle lives in a very nice apartment and has all the luxuries. And when Darling moves in, there is plenty for space for both of them.

You're absolutely right that she has heated towel racks and a bathtub large enough for her and her lover. Sometimes she'll lay her morning clothes on the heated towel rack to make them all nice and warm before she changes in them. And she likes to have relaxing baths and bathe her lover after work. It's a form of caring for them.

It's funny that you think Noelle does laundry and doesn't pay someone to come in and do it for her.

The living room is so spacious and open! Noelle loves modern decor so her place absolutely looks like this. In truth mostly Noelle and her Darling go over to Atalanta's place. I love how clean it is, Noelle always keeps her space immaculate.

LOVE Noelle's bedroom. She absolutely does a lot of work in her home, but that computer is definitely used for hacking/coding as well.

You're right, Noelle is super intelligent but she often hides it. A lot of her awards from childhood and college are in her bedroom, and her degree is framed right over her desk.

Noelle likes to sit at her vanity mirror and do her skincare and haircare routine. She's like Rapunzel, she brushes her long hair 100 times before bed and she's super strict about it.

Noelle is SUPER into clothes and making herself look nice, she is very interested in her image. She has to be, working with Atalanta Montclair.

Also Vespera, if Noelle has invited you to her place, you are like in the final stages of the relationship before being kidnapped so you should maybe watch out for that.

Synopsis: you and Rinku got paired up to do a project and have a lil sleepover!

Both of you and Rinku were assigned to make a project, luckily bith of you were very close friends. The project was scrapbook making about memories, schools were almost coming to an end and the teachers paired you and Rinku for the project, little did you know Rinku was gleaming with excitement.

You both decided that it was best for Rinku to come at your place since your parents were busy and you had a printer there, once Rinku arrives, she hugged you excitedly and cheered "heyhey!! (Y/N) I wasnt late was i?!" She asks, a hint of worry in her voice, you shook your head and pat her on the head "nono.. in fact, you came here earlier than i expected.. come, i bought some snacks to keep us motivated" you added, Rinku nodded and puts her bag of materials on a nearby table.

You both did the project at your room since it have a/c. You were designing while Rinku was cutting and gluing. "Ow..!" Rinku hissed, you looked over and saw that she had cut herself "oh my! Here let me see" you gently hd her hand, looking at the small cut, you git up and grabbed some bandaids and an ointment, you dabbed some cotton onto the ointment and ever so lightly, dabbed it onto her fingertips, then you went ahead and put bandages on her cut. "There.. how about, you design the paper while i cut.. your still injured.." you say with concern, Rinku nodded, feeling warm because of your gesture.

"Ohhh.. I understand why they gave us three weeks to finish.." Rinku says, playfully and concernly.. time was going by fast and both of you still havent finished the scrapbook, "hehe, we shouldnt really take advantage of our time.. but thats okay, I know we can do it.. if we do end up staying up late.. are you alright with sleeping in? I have some spare clothes.." you added, Rinku was suprised, a sleepover!! She wanted to yell 'Happy Around!' but she couldnt.. afterall she had to maintain this... Proper attitude towards you!

While doing the project, the time was currently, 10, almost 11.. Rinku noticed how your eyes kept on dropping.. you were sleepy, with no second thoughts, she got up and walked towards you, "y/n..? You fell asleep.! You can go ahead and rest y/n, the projects almost finished.." you yawned and without a word, laid down on your bed. The clock moves and its now 11! "Rinku.. its a bit late to finish that.. we can wake up early to finish yknow..? Just sleep.." you say, soundung quite sluggish. "E-eh?! I sometimes wake up very very late.. its okay i can-" you cut her off by putting a finger on her lipsn "shush. Your going to sleep.. you might get eyebags and, i already set an alarm clock" you added. Rinku got up and grabbed some pillows and placed them onto the floor. "What're you doing..?" You ask, Rinku looks at you "oh! Just getting ready!" "Sorry Rinku.. i dont have a spare mattress.." you say, slightly guilty, "Haha! Its okay! The floor is much colder afterall.!" She giggles, you shook your haid and grabbed her arm, not so tight that it hurts, but tight enough that she cant let go.

"..no, we spilled some juice on the floor remember? Theres probably ants roming somewhere.. just.. sleep with me, my bed is big enough for 2 people" you suggest, Rinku blushes at that suggestion, she was going to sleep beside you?!?! She was very red when thinking about this.. "E-eh?! B-but... I uh..!" Despite what she was saying, you still shaked your head, "really its okay, my blankets is also big enough.. im fine with this Rinku.. i rather have you on bed here with me, than let you sleep on the floor, Rinku couldnt say no.. afterall you were so kind and it'd be rude to turn down an offer.. so she accepts.

While you both laid down, you were sleeping peacefully, even having your mouth slightly open, Rinku on the other hand though.. her heart was beating rapidly, was freaking out and was looking everywhere except at you, you turn over and your arm, rests over at Rinku, she blushed more because of this, as she was about to move your hand, you instead, moved closer, and was basically clinging onto her.. she was still red and couldnt control herself.. "..y-y/n.." she muttered, she took some deep breathes and took lots of time to calm herself before hugging you back and falling asleep as well

Rinku woke up, the suns out and she looks over and saw that she was still hugging you, this time she hugged you by the waist and you were sitting up, using your phone, "oh? Youre up early" you teased, Rinku giggled awkwardly and immediately pulled away, "Im so sorry!! I swear i didnt do-" you cut her off by chuckling. "Its okay Rin.. really, plus i slept better thanks to you" you smiled, Rinku smiled as well, she got up and stretched "Okay! Lets continue with the project!" She says with determination, "haha..! Its way too early.. i'll cook us breakfast, then we'll continue hm?" You suggest, Rinku nodded and helped you out of bed "okie!"

i was NOT expecting a brilliantly written masterpiece about colonialism, but thats what i got, and its going in the greatest of all time hall of fame in my brain forever.

im not gonna sit here and regale you on the message of the movie. they only said fax, no printer, and its an important message to send kids. alot of the messages kids get about races and borders is “we are all the same 😚” but they came in with the “we are NOT the same and that is both good and bad, both exciting and dangerous so you need to be aware of dangerous ideas of “harmony”” and thats so real. kids need to understand differences are OK.

i love how they backed off the “chosen one” vibe poppy had in the first movie and talked about her flaws as a leader. while her stubborness was a good thing in the first movie to contrast branches pessimistic nature, it wouldnt have worked here, and i can see a cheap writer (like m*chael w*ldron) either insisting she gets away with her selfishness and carrying on with the happy ending anyway, or pretending that wasnt a character trait at all (because w*ldron doesnt watch the first movie and writes a sequel anyway)

my favorite scene is the bubble scene and the woods right after they leave funk where branch confronts poppy. do i even need to tell you why?

i just want to mention it because im pretty sure branch sings a cover of “girl crush” by little big town, which is a country band, and branch said he likes country music earlier and that slays. but when poppy comes in, what they sing is definitley not girl crush, and i cant tell if its giving “trolls can mix music” or im completley wrong and its a different song alltogether. but i cant tell if that song is homophobic or is super gay, so if im wrong thats prob for the best.

the only flaw i can think of is the country music, as a midwestern i can confidently say that was an affront to real blue grass country music. i guess born to die “works” but it didnt represent country as well as the other genres did. theres alot of controversy in the country music fandom with alot of singers who sound exactly the same and produced like its a factory line. but even if people still think miranda lambert and carrie underwood arent true country singers, their songs wouldve worked better than born to die. also the country trolls shouldve been on a self sufficient farm instead of the wild west. that wild western jazzy piano and country music isnt the same.

the only bad part about the movie is that it ended and barb ATE. SHE LEFT NO CRUMBS WITH THAT INTRO. send ask.

Barb really was goat, the best antagonist in the franchise. I love parallels between her and Poppy, how both had different intentions (Poppy wanted to help and Barb wanted to conquer) but Poppy's method was also wrong and both Poppy and Barb and everyone had to make compromises for all tribes to live in harmony because no one has to change their lifestyle for that to happen, all they have to do is accept that they're different and that's perfect. Just be yourself and let others be themselves.

That song in the end (Just Sing) slaps hard (and so does Can't Stop The Feeling btw).

ive never really gotten involved with cosplay discourse bc most of it is stupid but apparently sone people have been talking abt bought cosplays vs homemade cosplays and as a maker my head is full of thoughts. keep in mind that ive heard everything secondhand from my roommate (who also cosplays) bc i dont really use other social media (we have a joint cosplay insta i post on sometimes but they do everything else there).

ive been making my own cosplays since i was like 11 or 12, and im lucky enough to have had a mom who knows how to sew and could teach and help me those first few years. my dad is a nerd who was excited when i started cosplaying and going to cons with him and he's always has helped me with props. again, i know im lucky for this, and i had a pretty easy in to the hobby. this is all really just for context for my side here.

cosplay had a bit of a popularity boom over lockdown, because it was a way people could have fun at home, and that's great!! i love seeing people getting into things i love!! especially after being made fun of for it as a teen. but since then, ive noticed that the vast majority of new cosplayers are buying their costumes — and before i go further, i want to emphasize that i do not judge on an individual level whether or not youve made your cosplay, and nobody should. everybody's situation is different and it's important to remember the play part of cosplay. its supposed to be fun — and honestly that's really sad to me. what's even sadder is the amount of people saying things like 'everyone who makes their cosplays are rich' (i am absolutely fucking not, im currently unemployed bc im disabled) or 'if you make your cosplay youre not a cosplayer, youre a cosmaker' (this one doesnt even make sense. why are you alienating the creators of the entire hobby).

i get completely that its an intimidating thing to get into. making cosplays isnt just sewing. its also hair/wig styling, makeup artistry, foamwork, propmaking, etc... the list can really goes on bc it truly can be anything. resin casting, embroidery, beading... it all depends on what youre doing and how you want to do it. and im not saying it isnt a money- and timesink, because obviously you have to invest both of these things into it. but it doesnt have to be all fancy sewing machines and expensive fabrics!

did you know you can sometimes rent sewing machines from libraries? if theres a makerspace near you, thats a fantastic resource (they usually have things like sewing machines and 3d printers, and they usually host classes where you can learn to use their equipment)! youre even likely to find sewing machines at thrift stores! and speaking of thrift stores, bedsheets and curtains make great fabric sources, and if youre lucky you can find a piece you can alter or even just wear as part of the costume! and theres tons of tutorials and resources online for just about everything, even for specific costumes. there are also some good online fabric stores with much more variety and better prices than joanns, and you can look into if theres a place near you that sells recycled and donated remnants/unused fabrics, etc!

and like. idk. maybe thats all common knowledge among the specific group of cosplayers im talking about. theres nothing wrong with still choosing to buy a cosplay. i just ask: do you know how the people who made it are treated at the source you buy from? are they paid fairly? is it made out of cheap polyester and how comfortable is that for you?

i put — very literally, usually — blood sweat and tears into my costumes. im not saying everyone has to do this. im just. the making aspect is the heart of cosplay to me. its clearly not for everyone and thats fine. it just makes me sad to see so many people acting like its some elitist or inaccessible thing when its not

Does forgiveness come easily or with dificulty for them...

Ferics - In general Bluebell is extremely petty, once they know someone and start to like them that goes away, exception: Miyers (Ferics keeps a mental scoreboard of every tiny thing they can spite him for). If it's something serious, their trust is easy to wound and hard to heal.

Dlicti - She does not forgive. Her trust is fragile and when it shatters the cracks are sharp and draw blood easily. Dlicti is pretty chill, but she has a strict set of rules and does not tolerate encroachment on them. You get maybe three strikes with her, a fourth one is broken glass.

Calixtus - Cali is... hmmm... Cali does not feel like they have much of a self. This probably comes from being the /neutral/ master class, along with the aspect of mind. For the Judge of Mind forgiveness isn't really a concept that comes to them naturally. its not a strict set of rules so it's hard for them to grasp, and thus hard for them to trust. If you pressed them hard enough to tell you if they forgive you, not if the scales are balanced and debts are equalized, but if they Calixtus forgives you, they might break down entirely.

Something that makes them happy

Ferics - Somati. There's nothing like a good shooshsesh for them, either side. They also fucking love conceptualizing things and then making them. one of their favorite things in their workspaces is their 3d printer. They have intense empathy, as stoney as their facade may be, and it itches for them to know there are problems out there they aren't solving, so solving any problem feels great to them, the more important the better. Some are too important though...

Dlicti - Flowers. Also that dinky little violet that comes around to bother her all the time. She gets a very high amount of satisfaction from aligning things in a proper order, whatever that order might be. She loves seeing organisms thrive and orderly systems. It's why she's so fond of gardening.

Calixtus - Seeing the scales balanced. Once they managed to have three seperate conscious periods before they had to be tilted again, that might have been the most at peace they ever were. Cali also feels a really intense melancholy from drawing the three of them happy and alive together. Those drawings are hidden like theyre the nuclear launch codes. They have no idea what they'd do if they had another "hateful embrace" conversation with Calfuray or god forbid Calafay. This green little bastard just wants a stable system.

Ferics - Donkey, easy. Maybe a mule, but probably a donkey.

Dlicti - hmmm... She gives me the energy of a big old dog. Or a cat. Or a bear?

Favorite scents!

Ferics - Somati. Somati is their favorite scent. Nothing beats moirail smell. They do like the smell of rubber cement though... even though they Really shouldn't.

Dlicti - Flowers. Hyacinths probably to be specific, but any flowers are hella. I think some of their favorites are honeysuckles, jack in the pulpits or voodoo lillies, and columbines

Calixtus - Hmm... Old book smell. New book smell. The smell of their hand oil touching metal. I don't know what the tri-cherub's living situation is like... hm... we should do a conveneing on that.
