I think it's funny that Gale, Wyll, Shadowheart, and Astarion all have these moments where they're like "ok, I need to confess something that I've been hiding from you... I'm actually a horrible person because (I'm a ticking time bomb/I made a pact with a devil/I worship a goddess widely regarded as evil/I'm a vampire)" and Karlach is like "uh btw, before you start being too nice to me, the devil who made me into a living weapon might track me down and try to kidnap me back after I escaped from her" and they're all like "so I understand if you don't want to travel with me anymore, I'll pack my little bag and go... wait, I can stay? You mean it? Oh my god thank you, I'll be good just give me a chance to prove myself, I can't believe you're still letting me travel with you" and half of them just expect you to kill them on the spot once they tell you what's going on

... meanwhile Lae'zel has been up-front about all her crazy stuff from the moment you met and she thinks you're either insane or the stupidest creature alive if you don't want her to tag along. what a queen

something i've become so certain of is that grace's decision to bury max under the floor was so specific to that situation, and is not just something she would easily do in other circumstances. this is also tied to the fact that grace would only see max falling as an act of god, she would not see it like that if anyone else had fallen

her whole goal at waylon hall is to strip max of his power or to humiliate him so much that she won't be attracted to him anymore and can go back to how she used to be. and it failed because she was right that he would be scared by ghosts and skeletons, but she was wrong about how he would react. yet, the moment that she fails, the floorboards break. at the moment where she feels like she's straying from god, it appears to her that god steps in and shows that she was right for going against max. how could she not see that as an act of god?

but if anyone else fell, she would see it as it is, a horrible accident. she has zero ill will against any of the nerdy prudes. she may disagree about some things, but she would never want them dead. they did everything right during the prank, max was the issue

back to my first point, she buries max because, one, she fully believes she is has god on her side in this scenario and she believes that he wouldn't want them to be punished for max's death. two, hfpd are massive nighthawk fanatics and bad at their jobs and there is a lot of incriminating evidence against them that point to murder, like richie says. so, if the police got involved, they would have been fucked. so chopping him up and hiding the body becomes the immediate avenue that can avoid this.

but if anyone else fell, they would be calling the police. grace would never suggest burying them because they are most likely her only friends at the time. it would easily be considered an accident by the police. they may have gotten dinged for trespassing, but that’s it. and max would be alive to get the heat of the police off of them. (before he fell, he had nothing against the nerdy prudes, so he would be horrified with the rest of them and would back them up) if max got caught trespassing, he probably couldn’t play in the big game, so they may even let them all walk

this kinda harps on my belief that grace isn’t some malicious killer. i love when grace kills people, don't get me wrong, but, at her core, she doesn't want people to die. she's unhinged, but she always has to be pushed into becoming murderous, it's not always her go to.

and if grace was the one to fall, there is no one there that is crazy enough to suggest burying her under the floor. only grace could ever come up with that. everyone else would be panicking, like in the musical, and would just call the police.

Orphan was knocked back by a fist from a goon. She was okay, but fighting with the sniffles wasn't the best idea like she thought it was.

Orphan (dazed from the congested nose): I'm okay... Just slightly dazed. I'm gonna... Lay down.

Orphan dizzly fainted falling asleep, as Red Hood and Batman both witnessed it. Both men slowly turned to the goon in question who tensed up terrified.

Goon (holding his hands up): I want to apologize.

Batman took a deep breath and then allowed Red Hood to throw the first punch. His son obliged.

Two hours later. Cass was sniffling from her runny nose with two tissues up her nose. She quickly sneezed and blew her nose.

Cass: They both beat him up for me?

Dick (eating soup with her): Yep.

Cass: Yeah, but the punch wasn't what affected me. Stupid flu.

Dick: Let them have this, they got along well that night and the guy survived. I'm positive he might turn a new lead though.

Cass (smiling): Huh no murder and I got them to get along... Neat.

thinking about how one of the most poetic things i ever wrote was in like chapter 5 of a jazz au for a 1960's set VR spy game's sequel that was the first real fanfic i ever wrote. tempted to go back and rewrite D.S. al Coda since i have more experience and a hell lotta more growth and skill now. reminding myself i have way too many other wips.

I keep thinking about Durge, who, even after defying Bhaal, is never truly free from their father's legacy.

Because yes, the Urge is gone, the cursed blood of Bhaal doesn't call to them anymore. But body remembers, even if mind doesn't. Body knows what it did, it knows what it was created for. It's instinctual, bone-deep reflexes of a person raised to be the perfect murderer. It's little twitches and how easily opponents fall: foes and former allies alike.

It's small glimpses of the past, because mind doesn't remember, but the body DOES. It's the eerie familiarity of darkest corners of Baldur's Gate, it's people recognizing Durge on the streets, people they don't remember but who remember THEM.

It's the feeling of being haunted by your own self.

It's the body of Ketheric, the bloody mess left of Orin, Gortash's lifeless frame. It's the knowledge you're the last one, what this tragic story of conquer started with you and ends with you.

It's the feeling of emptiness where bubbling joy once was, the blood on the blade what brings no feelings. It's being charming, or kind, or honest, or gentle, or honorable, but at the end of the day still being the best in the art of murder - and who are they if not Bhaal's unholy blade?

Godless and fatherless, struggling to reimagine themselves.

Especially when memories come; they never return fully, never in the whole picture. But glimpses, the shards of existence what was once theirs cut deeper than any ritual blade would.

I keep thinking about Durge weighted down by the grief of the world, guilt of the world.

Alone: without a god, a father, a sister, a partner (Gortash, bc these two were absolutely insane for each other).

Alone and with whole life ahead; lost and confused and with hands bloodied.

Hero, people call them. They don't feel like a hero.
