So there's this guy
And he's big and scary-looking and hidden underground somewhere
And he's made of metal
And is always smiling
And has a really cool theme that plays around him
And I like him a lot
Yes that's right I'm talking about

I don't want to brag but I've gone from 10 words to 416 and after the past year of a drought I want to express that I am proud of myself. I will get these last two chapters out. I will do it.

something something the appeal of palworld came largely from the concept of people intentionally parodying and/or ripping off pokemon designs to create an exaggerated and edgy interpretation of the stale pokemon formula, and that appeal gets lost immediately if those designs were generated with AI algorithms, because now the legally distinct piplup isn't an intentionally legally distinct piplup but rather the result of an algorithm creating its typical slop out of the work of artists who likely did not consent to their work being used for the purposes of training an algorithm. a sense of humanity that is required for parody to have an appeal is lost. the similarity to pokemon designs was funny when you believed it was the devs taking real pokemon and modifying them slightly, but now it only feels like the kind of shit you get when you ask an algorithm to generate you a picture of sonic. im less bummed that a game that i was looking forward to might be algorithm sludge and more worried about what the initial hype this game had before these concerns were brought up might signal to bigger game developers who want to replace human artists with algorithms so bad it makes them piss themselves in excitement

LOOK, Hands Of Time? Could have SERVED cunt. But the issues are so intrinsic to the show at large that not only is it fair for you to hate on s7, but I honest to the lord, need to rewrite 5 and Day of the Departed for s7 to make sense thematically.
Now, Now, S7? Also serves cunt. A little bit, conceptually at least.
I think there's a lot you can tell about a Ninjago fan based on what objectively mediocre season they're unhealthily obsessed with.
Like, obsessed in an "i know its bad writing but goddamn does it compel me" kinda way. In a "no one can talk shit about my fave but me" kinda way. In an "I deserve a PhD for how intensely I study this thing under a microscope" kinda way. In an "Im the only one who truly understands this story and its wasted potential, so im the only one capable of hating it correctly" kinda way.
What exactly does your favorite mid season say about you? Good question. But it sure does say Something.

many things about the chronicles of Narnia made me irrevocably insane at the small age of six years old but one of the big ones was the bit in prince Caspian where caspian blows susan's horn to try and summon help and it summons the pevensie kids like. that's crazy ok. that's insane. imagine at 12 years old you're given a horn thats purpose is basically summoning divine intervention & then years later someone blows it and summons YOU . I'm crazy !

Not telling y'all that you should be able to identify AI slop (but it is a valuable skill, you totes should), but if you're to be accusing artists of being AI left and right at least go and do your homework, or at least do the bare minimum and use AI identification tools like Hive Moderation, so you 1- don't ruin someone's lifehood 2- don't make a clown out of yourself maybe
Like, i get it, AI slop and "AI artists" pretending to be genuine is getting harder and harder to identify, but just accusing someone out of the blue and calling it a day doesn't make it any better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The AI clowns shifted to styles that have less "tells" and the AI arts are becoming better. Yeah, it sucks ass.
They're also integrating them with memes, so you chuckle and share, like those knights with pink backgrounds, some cool frog and a funny one liner, so you get used to their aesthetic.
Tumblr media
This is an art from the new coming set Final Fantasy for MtG. This is someone on Reddit accusing someone of using AI. From what i can tell, and i fucking hate AI, there is NO AI used on this image.
As far as i can tell and as far as any tool i've used, the Artist didn't use AI. which leads to the next one:
Tumblr media
they accused the artist of this one of using Ai. the name of this artist is Nestor Ossandon.
Tumblr media
He as already been FALSELY ACCUSED of using AI, because he drew a HAND THAT LOOKED A LITTLE WEIRD, which caused a statement from D&D Beyond, confirming that no AI has been used.
Not to repeat mysef, they're accusing the art above, that is by Nestor, to have used Ai.
REAL artists are not machines. And just like the AI slop, we are not perfect and we make mistakes. The hands we draw have wonky fingers sometimes. The folds we draw are weird. But we are REAL. We are real people. And hey, some of our "mistakes" sometimes are CHOICES. Artistic choices are a thing yo.
If you're to accuse someone of using Ai, i know it's getting hard to identify. But come on. At least do your due diligence.

As a reminder that good exists out there, a coworker recently confessed to me that he found out his child is questioning their identity (kid's gender redacted for this post). The kid is keeping it from him, so he can't say anything to them or show that he knows, but he's doing his best to get mentally prepared and educated so that he'll be ready whenever his kid does feel comfortable enough come to him.
For context, this guy is a big, bulky middle aged dude who loves sports and typical outdoor "manly" activities. As his coworker and friend, I know he's a kind and sweet teddy bear of a person, but his kid probably views him as a stern, authoritarian figure, the way most teenagers view their parents. His family lives in a conservative area, so I'm sure between that, their dad's looks and interests, and the fact that their dad is a Figure of Authority, the kid is worried that they won't be accepted.
But you know what? When he found out about his kid, the first thing he did was reach out to his closest queer friend and ask for resources for parents of questioning children. His biggest fears are that his kid will be bullied or discriminated against and won't feel comfortable enough to be themself. His second action was to find himself a mentor in another parent who went the same situation (kid coming out in a conservative town). The other person is preparing him for some of the struggles his kid may face and the fights he may need to take on as a parent to make sure his kid is safe and treated well.
Something I want to emphasize for people focused on language as the primary method of allyship is that when we spoke, he used some outdated terms and thoughts about gender and sexuality. That does not make him bad. These were the terms and thinking used about questioning teenagers when he was growing up and he never needed to learn more current ones. But now that he does have that need, he's throwing himself in head first because that's his kid and he's darn well going to make sure that his kid feels welcomed and has a safe place to be themselves even if they never come out to him.
