Mikey Goes To Oz

<Time spent: 49 hours 17 minutes>

When Mikey takes some time away from a loud family squabble he accidentally ends up getting “flushed” down the sewers. This winds up sending him to the colorful land of Oz where he meets a good witch, a wicked witch, a brainless scarecrow, a heartless Tinman, a cowardess lion, and a powerful wizard, all disguised behind very familiar faces.

A canon adjacent spin off set before the season one finale but after they discover Splinter is Lou Jitsu

I wanted to fit each of the boys into their “you’ve had this all along” category. Leo isn’t brainless, in fact he’s pretty clever with a street smart, people reading ability on par with Donnie’s intelligence. Donnie isn’t heartless, he just has a tough time expressing his feelings. They are complex and unalgorithic but he can get just as excited or sad or angry as anyone, as much as he may deny it. Raph isn’t a coward, but being brave sometimes means admitting you’re scared and that you maybe don’t have all the answers. You dont have to be strong all the time and you don’t have to do it by yourself.

In the movie Dorothy’s journey home is also a representation of her running away. The important thing was to remember there were people who cared about her. Mikey is experiencing a similar phenomenon, wanting the escape the bad vibes in the lair. His “you’ve had it all along” is interesting because it is an object, since the Ruby kneepads could’ve taken him home the whole time. And sometimes getting home means going on a journey only to realize you never left.

I put April as Glinda because Glinda appears as a defender of the weak, and I see April in a similar light. Always willing to help and beat someone up if it is so required. Splinter as The Wizard of Oz represents Splinters own willingness to hide behind different personas, his running from the past and the pulling back of the curtain for Mikey in timeline. The Wizard grows through the movie, albeit quickly, and ends up leaving Oz to go home leaving his legacy with the scarecrow, the Tinman, and the lion. In this case the passing of the baton to his sons.

Meanwhile Draxum as the wicked witch felt much more how Mikey sees Draxum at this time in the show, mostly just an antagonistic force who wants something from them. Fun fact: I imagine throughout this dream, Draxum is uninterested in being the wicked witch but is pressed into it via plot. Hence his disinterest in being “melted.”

Additional characters not pictured: Big Mama as the Wicked Witch of the East (those were her Ruby kneepads!!) and Todd as the Mayor of Munchkin Land. If you can think of more, feel free to leave them in the comments or tags.

In his pencil holder??? Facing sharp side up!??? I mean like, I cant judge, I also have a scalpel but i store it in a fucking sterilized box!? I dissect mushrooms with it what is he doing with it??? Dissecting flowers????

I think this is meant to be a 3 leaf clover but it could also be a sticky hand?

Quackity: I think it's going to be so exciting to see how this develops. I absolutely love to see the Red Team come back, you know, this whole kind of, you know, unity that they've put together that's put them in front, I love that. I love to see that. And now, I kind of want to destroy it now, right? I feel like that's like my character's purpose now. It's like, "Damn, my team is losing, let's find a way to not lose anymore." But yeah, I don't know, I– ramble over. I just love this.

Bagi: And I think it's a great addition for the role playing that we are going to do after this because we need to kill each other. And then after this, man, it's a lot of crazy stuff going on. I mean, Cellbit just killed me today, and I was like, in shock because I was standing still. I was just looking at his face. I couldn't even bring my sword, I was just looking. And then, man, after this sht is gone, we are going to have the craziest conversation ever.

Quackity: Yeah, so that's a really cool part. I saw that clip, and I feel like this is giving everyone a really good character development because keep in mind that right now, we are playing with no fcking rules, right? We're playing with what we think is right, we're playing with the cards that were dealt. But what I want to see is the development of everyone's characters right after.

There's gonna be... interesting conversations to be had. There's gonna be interesting arcs to be had based off of this event alone, and I think that's absolutely wonderful. And if there's something I can implore people to do is to not take it seriously. Like, this is literally for entertainment purposes, and I feel like for creators themselves too, it gives them an opportunity to develop– if they want to develop a character arc, that's cool. If they just want to play, that's cool too. I think people should not take it seriously, it's for entertainment purposes only, and I personally am so excited to see all the development that's gonna come after because we haven't even seen all of Purgatory yet.

When Steve’s driving at night, sometimes he likes to put on Phil Collins, wishing he had a convertible so he could really pretend he’s Sonny Crockett. It’s silly, not something he’d admit to, except one time he’s driving with Eddie, and In The Air Tonight comes on and he lets it slip. Of all people, why did it have to be Eddie he told?

Steve knows Eddie doesn’t like Miami Vice that much—and he definitely doesn’t like Phil Collins, though he does give credit where credit’s due, the dude can drum—and he expects Eddie to make fun of him. But he doesn’t. Just nods, gives a small smile, even drums along to the song.

He does, though, say if Steve really wanted the full Sonny Crockett experience, he’d get a pet alligator, which might be close enough to making fun of him, only Steve thinks Eddie might be serious.

“I’m sure my mom would love that.”

“You’ve got a pool.”

“You can’t keep an alligator in a pool!”

“Why not?”

“It’s the wrong kind of water, for starters, and…” Steve trails off, glancing at Eddie, and he sighs. He can’t believe he’s arguing about this. He reaches over and shoves Eddie’s shoulder. “Whatever. I’m not getting an alligator.”

“Pity.”

“Guess I’ll never be as cool as Crockett.”

“Dude, you are way cooler.”

The sincerity kind of surprises Steve and he blinks over at Eddie. “Yeah?”

“Of course .”

“Huh.” Steve sits up a little straighter, one hand on the wheel, the other running through his hair. And the wind blowing through the window is no longer a balmy Miami breeze, but the cool Hawkins’ night air, the road beneath the wheels is a Hawkins’ back road and it’s just Eddie beside him in the passenger seat. Steve turns the volume down, eases off the gas, and says, “Cool.”
