Characters' handwriting in rise (in episode order)!

"Mystic mayhem". Splinter's handwriting is very unique and cool! Love how angular it is, his "o"s are more like triangles

"Origami Tsunami". It's not shown who wrote these signs (multiple turtles?). We see mikey put the "paper on sale" sign up but we don't see him write it. However, after gathering all the samples of the turtles' handwriting, i couldn't find one of leo's and this sloppiness doesn't quite match donnie's, raph's or mikey's, so i'm inclined to say this is leo's handwriting

"Shell in a Cell". Donnie's signature. Donnie writes in cursive in "origami tsunami" too

"Stuck on you". Raph's consistently shown to write in all caps. Also he wrote this on his right palm. Is raph left handed? But! In "pizza puffs" raph writes with his right hand. Maybe raph's ambidextrous orrrrr the artists just forgot

"Pizza Pit". Mikey's handwriting. His letters are offset. How interesting! Mikey writes in all caps in "bullhop" but a bit neater

"Warren & hypno, sitting in a tree". I LOVE that we can see this evolution of april's handwriting through the years, or at least her signature, from elementary school to highschool. I also love that we see her without her jacket

This list of shown handwriting is far from comprehensive, unfortunately, but handwriting is a great opportunity for characterization that i think's often overlooked. Idk if the crew sat down and chose unique handwriting styles for each character but that'd be cool if they did! I noticed most of the handwriting in rise is all caps across characters

Being Hamato Yoshi

Splinter goes by many names.

Lou Jitsu is the name he used while clawing his way to fame in a cutthroat industry.

Hamato Yoshi is the name he was born with, a name that represented the Hamato legacy and the expectations of his family.

Then, when he found himself broken, mutated, and homeless, Splinter is the name that he took upon himself as he was now just a broken splinter off the once mighty Hamato family tree.

At that point in life Splinter was content with wallowing in his disenfranchisement and grieved over what once was and what would never be. The television became a comfort and a means to soothe his all-encompassing depression (as discussed in “What they Became.”)

Nonetheless, slowly but surely, something began to draw his attention away from mourning himself and his past life.

That “something” was his sons.

He falls into his role as a sensei simply enough (between cake, naps, and a commercial or two, of course.)

But, in due time, something within him changes as well.

It’s hard to tell when that change happened but the former ways of the Hamato clan eventually and intrinsically unearthed itself.

The same way that his grandfather pushed the Hamato legacy onto him is the same way that he ultimately pushes that legacy onto his sons.

But history repeats itself. Just like he did, his boys also buckle under the pressure of their family name.

This time, though, Splinter learns from the mistakes of his elders and apologizes, thus becoming the accepting and accommodating parental figure he needed all those years ago.

Likewise, over time, he begins to find a new purpose. His unique experiences have left him with a specific type of wisdom, a wisdom that only comes from being Lou Jitsu, Hamato Yoshi, and Splinter.

Therefore, instead of looking within, he begins the altruistic work of looking outward in order to help his family, friends, and the people he cares about the most.

With his healthier state of mind, he is finally able to move on and look forward at the brightened path of his future, their future.

By being Lou Jitsu the superstar, Hamato Yoshi, the carrier of the Hamato legacy, and Splinter the lowly rat, he finds himself with a new name, yet it’s his highest honor to date and is a name that can only be earned...

He’s their Dad.

Horrible news an other version of you is a whore

Here is my submission for Round 3 of the @tmntfashioncompetition. The theme was "Heroes and Villains" and while I was tempted to go the cosplay route I really wanted to see if I could lean hard into the fashion aspect and still get the theme across with Vogue vibes alone. This is my first time drawing either Lou Jitsu or Big Mama, but I felt like they were the perfect pair for this theme. I will be going up against the lovely @pommigranite this round! Best of luck to both of us, dear!

So I've been agonizing what Raph, Leo and Mikey's names should be in the AU, cuz if Splinter didn't raise them then they Draxum would've been the ones who named them and why would he pick human artist names?

Alas, I am lazy, and I don't wanna spend a bunch of time figuring out alternative names for them, so I quickly thought of an in-universe reason why they all ended up with the same names as in canon lol

(TBF Splinter did immidietly start naming in the show as well, he was just a bit less creative about it)

People harp about how much leo looks like lou jitsu yet donnie's body has a closer resemblance to lou jitsu's than leo's does because of his long legs (lol they're posing the same)

Leo has a long torso and short legs (in proportion to his body) to push his triangle shape language, unlike lou jitsu and donnie
