Did you ever figure out what's Snape's pronoun in japanese? 👀 I'm curious

I have jumped through so many hoops... I want to buy the hardcovers in Japanese, so I didn't want to spend money just to check a word... but piracy is hard for Japanese things... So I've signed up for an Amazon kindle unlimited thingy account and Amazon is useless in my country nobody has a fucking amazon account

AND THEN to read it I have to download the KINDLE APP on on my PC and log into AMAZON on it uuugh whinge whinge complain tantrum

I got all the japanese books - and I've been tipped off that he might use 'Wagahai' and FUCK do I hope he uses wagahai but it seems I cannot use the search function with kanji. Nor does it seem to search through furigana. Only hiragana and katakana. uuuugghhhhhh So I just need to... search for Snapes name in every book and scour the pages. Cool. Cool.

So I am looking through each book's every mention of スネイプ... Dumbledore uses 'Washi' and is, as always, delightful - using the typical old man 'jya's. I hope he and Sebarusu enjoyed their umasou custard tarts. Shoutout to Suneipu's poisonous eyes at Hari- and Ron.

HE USES WAGAHAI!!! He is SO cat themed in Japanese, what the hell... English its always bats and spiders, Japan is straight up like 'He purrs and is a cat' ... For people who don't know: Wagahai is an old-timey male pronoun. It's long been out of use and sounds arrogant, pompous, formal... "I'm better than you. I look down on you. You're a peasant; I'm a Lord." It re-gained popularity within fiction because of the 1905 book about a teachers pet cat by Natsume Souseki, 吾輩は猫である (I am a cat). It is STRONGLY associated with that book and cats in general. It's almost always used for non-human characters, especially to give an 'old military man' or 'from a different time' feel.

I recently saw a post on tiktok about Neville as a potentially great chosen one if he had been picked, and I wanted to share my thoughts and rant a little because I don’t have much else to talk about, lol.

I believe ppl are missing a crucial point here. If Voldemort had targeted Neville instead of Harry, things would have played out very differently. Neville most likely wouldn’t have survived at all and wouldn’t have become "the Boy Who Lived."

Firstly, let’s discuss Snape. His role in Harry’s survival is massive. Snape’s love for Lily led him to ask Voldemort to spare her, and he then went to Dumbledore to beg for her protection. The Potters went into hiding, and Dumbledore cast the fidelius charm. Unfortunately, they were eventually betrayed by Peter. Since Snape wouldn’t have done this for the Longbottoms, they wouldn’t have gone into hiding (unless Dumbledore had been tipped off by someone else). This would have made it easier for Voldemort to find them.

Secondly, the protection Harry received from his mother’s sacrifice was unique. Lily’s choice to sacrifice herself for Harry created a magical protection that caused Voldemort’s curse to rebound, leading to his temporary downfall. This was possible because Voldemort gave her the choice to step aside. Alice and Frank, though loving and brave, wouldn’t have had the same opportunity to step aside for Neville. Snape wouldn’t have asked Voldemort to spare them, so Voldemort wouldn’t have given them a chance to step aside. As a result, Neville wouldn’t have received the same sacrificial protection, and Voldemort would have succeeded in killing him.

In short, if Voldemort had targeted Neville, the lack of Snape’s intervention and the absence of the Fidelius Charm and sacrificial protection would likely have led to the Longbottoms' deaths. Neville wouldn’t have become the boy who lived, and the wizarding world’s history would have been completely different.

I personally speculate that if Voldemort had succeeded in killing Neville, he might have then turned his attention to Harry to prevent the prophecy from coming true. Given Voldemort’s nature, he would likely have sought to eliminate any remaining threat. Snape would've intervened (assuming he was aware), potentially resulting in a scenario similar to the one we know. This would mean Harry could still become the chosen one and “the Boy Who Lived,” despite the different circumstances. It’s an intriguing thought—how fate might realign even when the paths change.

This has probably been discussed before, but I just needed to yap a little. It’s been a while since I posted!

Prompt 25 - Curl

“The competition is as follows. Whichever table can make the sturdiest stool from the provided materials will win a fabulous prize. You have thirty minutes to make your stool and then we will add increasing amounts of weight until we have a winner.” Albus addressed the room once all the lunch things had been cleared away.

“Anyone got any ideas of the best way to do this?” James asked as he experimentally clustered a handful of lolly sticks together. Everyone around the table shrugged, apart from Snape. 

“Actually,” He said, clearing his throat. “I know exactly how to do this,”

Working as a team, they let Snape order them about, as he talked them through how to make the best stool. They all agreed that Peter should probably just hold the bag of lolly sticks so James could easily grab them when he needed them. 

Remus and Sirius controlled the sellotape, while James counted out the lolly sticks into bundles for Sirius to tape together and Snape to put where he wanted each bundle with the help of Remus and his tape. 

At the end of the thirty minutes, McGonagall stood and blew her whistle.

“Hands up. Mr Dunn, that includes you. Mr Harris drop those scissors immediately.” She barked at the few campers trying to hastily finish their stools. 

“Right then!” Albus clapped his hands together. “If one person from each table could bring their stool up here and we'd find out how well you've done,”

“It’s your baby, Severus,” James clapped Snape on the back and handed him the stool they’d all helped create. Snape took it and walked up to Albus. 

The room was silent apart from the prolonged ‘oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh’ when the first stool started to sag after just 1 kilo. 

Stool after stool crumpled under the weights until there were only three left. Theirs was one of them. Sirius was chewing his nails anxiously as the next weight was added to their stool. There wasn't even a wobble, while Ravenclaw cabin's lost a leg and toppled over. It was down to theirs and the rest of the campers from Slytherin cabin. Remus reached over and tucked a stray curl behind Sirius’s ear. He gently pulled Sirius’s fingers away from his mouth and held his hand tightly. 

Albus added more and more weight to the stools, but neither of them were showing signs of breaking. 

Finally, the cracking sound of splintering wood echoed around the silent hall. 

“Whose was it?” James’s whisper was deafening. Albus added another weight to each stool and the cracking sound rang out again. Almost in slow motion, the weights on top of the left stool sunk into it and thudded to the floor. The competition was over. There was a winner.

The best Severus and Harry dynamic is when everything is exactly the same and they absolutely loathe each other

But also Severus is the one Harry goes to when he has a nightmare, the half-asleep Severus asking if he needs to 'kiss it better' (mocking, snarky) or 'actually kiss it better' (serious, protective) and he just needs to see how Harry reacts to know whether he needs to comfort Harry or if he's good to make fun of Harry until Harry's so annoyed he stops being upset. Severus is the one who kisses Harry's forehead when Harry absolutely wrecks himself playing Quidditch. Harry's the one who drags Severus to bed when Severus is trying to power through a headache. Harry's the one who cheers Severus up when he's upset by just being a sassy lil shit and cracking Severus up.

And it's even funnier when Remus Lupin is the only person who doesn't understand what the hell is this hot-and-cold dynamic? How the hell can Sev both hug Harry after a nightmare and yet also try strangle him when he says one thing wrong? And why is everyone so normal about this?! Why isn't anyone concerned?!

To everyone else, it's pretty obvious to everyone that Remus is an only child.

i truly deeply believe in my heart of hearts that it does not matter if albus’ dad wasn’t famous and if scorpius’ dad wasn’t famous, if they were just two anonymous faces rocking up to ANY school ever (not just hogwarts), they would’ve gotten bullied no matter what. i mean look at them.

the 'palace' scene

i have been WAITING to talk about this scene and it has finally come to it. this will be my last post in terms of the changes because i believe i have gone through them all (could be wrong).

instead of writing the whole scene (because that would make this post even longer), i decided to include an audio recording from the current broadway version (Joel Meyers & Erik Christopher Peterson 2024) and the original script. i recommend listening to it while reading the original script before reading the rest of this post.

alrighty, time to go into my thoughts. 

essentially, this scene has gone from a cute little moment between two besties having a lighthearted chat about their feelings for girls, to now a very intimate and quite emotionally vulnerable scene between them. 

removal of love interests: 

rose and scorpius’ dynamic is strictly friendship now with him only asking to be friends in which she still says no. that is a self explanatory change which results in no evidence of scorpius having romantic feelings for her. along with this, polly, another female love interest, is completely removed from this conversation. this takes away pretty much EVERY interaction scorpius has with a female interest in a ‘romantic’ way. 

now with albus; thank god no random mention of the older female professor ew. and no albus getting a girlfriend first. coincidently also removing all the lines referring to him having romantic feelings for female characters. without the statement of liking older women, it removes he emphasis on albus romantically having feeling for delphi in which we know was also changed in the scene with ginny and albus. 

now what does this do to the narrative and perception of these characters? when you remove the female love interests in this situation, it leaves a gap in the story. the gap being who do these characters now actually love?? and since this play is pretty much about ‘love can conquer all’, WHO ELSE ARE THEY MEANT TO PUT THESE FEELINGS OF LOVE ON TO OTHER THAN EACH OTHER???? you cannot deny that all these changes made are for the benefit of this relationship and puts a lot more emphasis on them and what they mean to each other. 

slight word changes: 

“marriage” to “allegiance” again relates to the removal of scorpius’ romantic feelings for female characters, completely taking away this whole part of the plot for him. like all he wants is to form a friendship with rose! platonic friends is what they are now. 

again removing “love” and changing it to “harmony” takes away the romantic feelings and just creates a nice friendship. but i do think its sooooo funny that they changed “love” to “harmony” because THAT would’ve been too far for them. as albus wants that palace with scorpius, having “love” would be confirming that they love each other. that can absolutely not happen. but aren’t they just kinda synonyms or am i stupid. also it wouldn’t be that controversial because they already used “love” as albus’ weakness WITH SCORPIUS IN THAT SCENE soooo… the creatives were just too scared to leave it the same. 

we also have the whole ‘in my head’ but we have gone through it in a previous post (https://www.tumblr.com/bawbawbridgie/748173064391557120/since-you-guys-were-begging-me-to-write-about-it?source=share). 

rose’s line is now changed to “if YOU TWO let it be weird”… WHY WOULD IT BE WEIRD???? firstly, he was only asking to be friends. and secondly, why would it be weird for albus? my boy didn’t do anything? it’s almost as if rose is implying something else? perhaps her finding out that something else is going on between them? mhmmm idk. reminder that rose is quite literally on the stage listening to this whole convo.

THAT line: 

i have so many thoughts on this line and what albus is getting at. is this albus’ way of admitting he has feelings for scorpius? is it albus ‘subtly’ trying to understand how his best friend feels about him by pushing the limits of their friendship and see how he’d react? is he asking him out? is he saying he loves him in his own way as he struggles with feelings? orrrr is it simply albus just asking him if rose, his cousin, is actually the one scorpius, his bestie, wants? this line is definitely up to how you all perceive it. for me, i personally feel it’s albus attempting to address delphi outing him because they never really expand on that moment, as well as attempting to push the boundaries of this friendship to see if scorpius wants more than this as well. 

i also find it amusing that albus says this after scorpius expresses he only wants “harmony” and an “eventual alligence” with rose. like scorpius hasn’t actually shown any romantic interest in rose so this means albus doesn’t even want him talking to her. god he’s obsessed with him. 

rose’s input: 

THANK GOD FOR THE REMOVAL OF “SCORPION KING” COZ HOW DID SHE KNOW???? whatever moving on. her cute little line, “you good albus?” eeeeee i love her new role in this scene. she is just looking out for the happiness of her cousin in which i assume she knows about the two of them being more than besties. fr she is also a big scorbus shipper by the end of the play and we love her for that. 

why tf did the creatives do this?:

ughhhhh i do not know. i guess this was the closest they could get without actually confirming they are together?? idk. i do find it amusing to think about the creatives trying to rewrite this scene and how proud they would’ve been when they created this line. kudos to you jack thorne and john tiffany. but in general with the changes, i have so many thoughts and theories about why/when/how they did this which i would love to dive into but it deserves a whole post dedicated to itself.

but i think at the end of this scene/play, this relationship is open ended like there is no definite answer of what they are and can be interpreted however you’d like. and i genuinely really like this, it’s somehow comforting. one question that i still ask myself (which could be quite problematic but here we go) is: are they actually canon? i have so many thoughts about this and could definitely do a seperate post but put simply… sadly no. PLEASE DONT HATE ME I WANT THEM TO BE CANON BUT I CANNOT 100% SAY THEY ARE!!!! and i have my reasons… but that’s a whole different issue.

although we would all like a CLEAR confession/answer (to get us out of our misery), but they are only 14/15 and finding themselves so who knows, maybe at dinner they worked out what they are but i guess we will never know?? ok bye sorry for all that xx
