So I’ve watched the first episode of PSI Cops, the first original series for [adult swim] Canada. Pretty good and funny so far, hoping to see the rest of it soon. Wished it could’ve aired on the network here in the US tho.
The first episode is officially available on YouTube: (https://youtu.be/E24bRZCoVsA?feature=shared)

The Summer of Stoked
Pretend this came out in August. Because the Summer of Ultra rolls on! What better show to follow Total Drama and end off the summer than one of the shows that failed to live up to the huge expectations set by Total Drama. Of all the Fresh TV shows aired in the US, it’s the only to give up airing the episodes half way through its run. Maybe that’s why so few people talk about it… or even remember it. But Andrew remembers it. He never forgot, and now it’s all of your problems! Wipeout Nation Rise Up

Anybody else watch those 'Summer Bucket List' or 'Things To Do When You're Bored' and laugh sadly when half the things the recommend are not even options in your country?
Go to a cat cafe . . . . Mkay should I open one first or??
Go to a night carnival or fair and play fun games . . . . Uhhhh
Go to a farmers market . . . . This one I could do (it's just a market and not a 'farmer's market' tho), and the experience is not the same.
Go berry picking . . . . 😐
Go to a record store . . . . I really wish this was possible, I even have a record player, but I have to buy all my cds and vinyls online

Solar return observations- Part 4
Tumblr media
(the panda in the back is me)
Aries ascendant is a very strong indicator of getting into sports that year, and I don't mean gym, I mean sports. (the year I had this, I started fencing and muay Thai, one of my friend had this in 2022 and she joined a basketball club)
So I have moon in pisces in 1st this year, and sometimes things get really overwhelming and swimming helps a lot. Just trust me on this one, if you have moon in cancer, pisces or scorpio, go for a swim.
I just saw that the year my sister got a dog, she had saturn in 6th house, it shows that you'll have to be responsible for an animal, may adopt a pet, and she had to take the dog on walks so even her health got a lot better.
Mars conjunct or in the same house as Venus Is another placement that I've been seeing in a lot of solar return charts this year. (the house that it's in tells you the area in which you are very passionate and loving, my sister has this in her 10th this year, and she's very focused on her career and is spending a lot of time in making a good portfolio)
Moon in 8th is a really good placement if you wanna pursue a career as a Psychologist, researcher, detective, etc. (if you've been studying it, and are looking for a job then you're more likely to get hired)
Tumblr media
Uranus in 2nd is a strong sign of starting to earn money unconventionally, my tarot reader friends all had this placement the year they started doing paid readings and tarot/astrology is not really considered to be a good career, so kind of taboo.
Jupiter in 5th is a good year to invest in the stock market (Jupiter shouldn't be in retrograde), one of my mother's friend had it this year and she gained a lot of money. (Just because you have it doesn't mean you should be irresponsible with your money, be smart)
Sun in 3rd is a good year to participate in clubs and if there's a leadership position open in school, college, or workplace, then sign up for it, and don't hesitate to express your opinions, if you're in college/school, then speak up in class, share your thoughts with your classmates, you won't regret it
Pluto in 8th is a painful placement, one of my very close friend has it this year and.... She's going through it. (She is unable to focus in class, her roommate is unhygienic, her boyfriend stole €600 from her and ran away, her parents asked her for her savings so they could keep it safe, she had €11,000 and they spent it all to send her brother to Canada.... Yeah) if you have this, I'm sorry, just take this 🫂, and DON'T TRUST ANYONE when you have it in your SR
Moon conjunct saturn can be the year when you become more mature, you learn how to control your emotions and deal with your problems like an adult. Many people start a new phase of their life when they have it, like moving out of your house, starting to live alone, earning money, entering the workforce, getting married and other life changing things can happen that year

Fish of the day
Today's fish of the day is the Frilled shark!
Tumblr media
The frilled shark, scientific name Chlamydoselachus anguineus, is known for its irregular teeth. This animal is often referred to as serpent-esc due to the unique swimming motions, and living in the darkened sea floor, where they can camouflage. Found at depths of 120-1,280 meters of depth (394-4,200 feet) the distribution of these animals is referred to as "spotty" and despite knowing of them since the 1870's, we are unsure of their full range. However, we have found all current populations in the Indo-Pacific, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans.
Tumblr media
Notable populations can be found along the Pacific coastline along California, Chile, Japan, and Southern Australia and New Zealand. Notable Atlantic populations are along the coast of Brazil, outside Southern Canada, Florida, the Western Sahara, and The West coast of Europe. They live along the edges of the continental shelf, spacing itself from both coastlines and the surface. Like other deep sea sharks, the frilled shark takes place in diel migration, which is a migration that takes place nightly when deep sea animals travel toward the surface when it is dark to prey on surface animals.
Tumblr media
Considered as one of the older and more primitive sharks, this 6 gilled wonder has fossils that were found dating as far back as 95 million years ago, making them living fossils. Related to the Greenland sharks, scaffold sharks, and silk sharks they are a member of the Hexanchiformes order, what was once thought to be the basal group for sharks, but it actually just a particularly old order within the Squalomoprpha subdivision. The Hexanchiformes order is known for having no nictating membranes, a further back spiracle than most sharks, and notable to our focus today, lacking the multi layer enameloid layer on the tops of teeth.
Tumblr media
Before we had found many of the specimen that named them living fossils, the frilled shark specifically was thought of as old due to their only partial cartilaginous notochord, which is a kind of elastic rod-like structure found in bilateral animals. Notochord can be found is all embryonic vertebrates, but is replaced by the bony vertebral column, with the original notochord being found in the intervertebral discs. The mouth of the frilled shark contains 300 needle-teeth which has a cusp and two cusplets (a raised surface, and then two divots outside of it, making smaller raised surfaces) which have anywhere from 19-29 rows on the top and bottom. The mouth is known for being able to open wide and eat foods that are larger then their entire body, similar to other deep sea fish, but being the only shark to do so.
Tumblr media
The diet of the shark is primarily made up of cephalopods, but will eat gastropods, fish, and small sharks when available. It hunts for these with mechanoreceptor hair cells, which sense movement and vibration, and pressure in the water nearby them. The frilled shark is a ambush predator, often preying on tired or dying prey that have finished spawning, hiding along the sea floor, waiting to strike by biting. These teeth are used for snagging animals and hooking into the flesh so regardless of struggle, and the frilled sharks relatively weak bite, they cannot be freed.
Tumblr media
Frilled sharks have defined breeding season, but they do have a size at which they reach sexual maturity. At around 1-1.2 meters male frilled sharks will mature, and at around 1.3-1.5 the female sharks will do the same. The shark is ovoviviparous, meaning that they are an egg, but that this egg will hatch within the mother and the pup will then sustain off of this yolk until live birth, and the shark will have as many as 2-15 pups after their gestation of 3-3.5 years. The pups are then left to fend for themselves, and will reach a full adult size of 2 meters, and pass away anywhere from 20-25 years after birth.

Have a wonderful day, everybody!

Where are the teenage/YA cartoons?
Tumblr media
Recently, two cartoons that were slated to be on Cartoon Network, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal and My Adventures With Superman, are now going to be on Adult Swim.
To me, this move makes no sense. These shows could have diversified Cartoon Network’s very barebones lineup, but they were shoved to Adult Swim. I sorta understand Unicorn, as it is dark (but definitely not on the same level as Primal, one of Genndy Tartakovsky’s other shows), but My Adventures with Superman? That show seems pretty innocuous. It has a bright color palette and doesn’t seem similar to Harley Quinn or the later seasons of Young Justice.
This reminds me of the desperate need there is for teen/YA-oriented western cartoons. In western animation, there are three primary audiences:
Preschoolers; anything rated TV-Y, shown on PBS Kids, Nick Jr, Disney Junior, or Cartoonito. Example: Doc McStuffins.
Big kids/elementary school crowd; anything rated TV-Y7, can be seen on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel. Example: The Amazing World of Gumball.
Adult; anything rated TV-14 or TV-MA, seen on Adult Swim, Comedy Central, or the prime time Fox lineup. Example: Rick and Morty.
That’s it. Despite what the rating of TV-14 might lead you to believe, the stuff on Animation Domination or Adult Swim isn’t targeted to teenagers, obviously.
This leaves teenagers in a weird spot when it comes to watching cartoons (western ones, that is. They definitely watch anime). They tend to stick with big kids and/or adult cartoons, like Avatar. With all of the heavy subject matter it and Korra tackle, they definitely feel more like teenage cartoons, especially since they were inspired by anime.
I bring up anime because they have clearly defined demographics, including teenagers. They have manga/anime for teenage boys, shonen (Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball Z), and teenage girls, shojo (Fruits Basket, Kamisama Kiss, Yona of the Dawn).
Shojo anime (except Sailor Moon) pretty much never air on American TV, but when shonen anime are exported here, they end up on Adult Swim’s Toonami block. For example, Demon Slayer aired on Toonami (they had to stop airing it because it got too expensive), and in America, the Mugen Train movie was rated R. This despite Demon Slayer being aimed at teenagers, and also being enjoyed by small children in Japan. They even had a Japanese Happy Meal promotion that ran alongside Pretty Cure, a show that actually is aimed at small children (kodomomuke).
With America’s teenagers flocking to anime, I believe that the American animation industry should keep up with the times and try to capitalize on the teenage demographic instead of shoehorning shows to be for elementary schoolers or adults.
Here are some western cartoons I believe could be classified as YA/teenage shows:
Avatar and Korra, as mentioned above.
Most cartoons aired on MTV, such as Daria, Beavis and Butthead, and Clone High. It helps that MTV itself was aimed at teenagers. Aeon Flux is an exception however, as it is clearly for adults. They’re often shoehorned into the category of “adult animation,” but their subject matter is more appealing to teens.
6teen. It’s right there in the title! Canada knows what’s up.
Total Drama, another Canadian cartoon. I know that they made the younger-skewing DramaRama spin-off because teenagers weren’t watching cartoons anymore, but now that the main show is coming back, it will definitely be aimed at teenagers again.
Sym Bionic Titan, yet another Tartakovsky show, pretty much is a teen/YA show, minus swearing. If I remember correctly, it aired on Toonami for a little while.
Regular Show. The most obvious example of a YA cartoon disguised as a kids cartoon.
Infinity Train. Never forget that it was cancelled because “no child entry point.”
As Told By Ginger is essentially a teen drama in animated form.
Invader Zim - Nickelodeon asked Johnson Vasquez to make a show directed towards older audiences, got exactly what they wanted (most of the viewership was from teens and adults, especially of the shops-at-Hot Topic variety) and cancelled it anyway.
Arcane is technically an adult series, but League of Legends is rated T by the ESRB, so I’m putting it in the teen/YA category (there IS a distinction between ‘young adult’ and ‘adult’)
I highly doubt that the likes of Nickelodeon will add a teenage animation block to their lineup (and TeenNick is nothing but iCarly reruns), but I hope that streaming services will start capitalizing on the YA demographic for western animation. Bee and Puppycat is a good start, featuring relatable young adult situations while technically being watchable for all ages. At least Unicorn is gonna air on ACME Night, which isn’t too late in the evening (currently, the block starts at 5:30 EST). And with Clone High and the aforementioned Total Drama making a comeback, I’m holding out hope for more YA animation.

BOTD: Common Murre
Tumblr media
Photo: Kenneth Cole Schneider
"Widespread on Pacific Coast from Alaska to California, but more local in the east, being found mainly off eastern Canada. This large auk sits upright on sea cliffs, looking like a northern version of a penguin. It swims and dives expertly, but its flight appears labored. For its size, the Common Murre has the most densely packed nesting colonies of any bird species; nests may be so close together that incubating adults are actually touching other adults on both sides."

Tomboy Survival Guide by Ivan Coyote
Tumblr media
Ivan Coyote is a celebrated storyteller and the author of ten previous books, including Gender Failure (with Rae Spoon) and One in Every Crowd, a collection for LGBT youth. Tomboy Survival Guide is a funny and moving memoir told in stories, in which Ivan recounts the pleasures and difficulties of growing up a tomboy in Canada’s Yukon, and how they learned to embrace their tomboy past while carving out a space for those of us who don’t fit neatly into boxes or identities or labels.
Ivan writes movingly about many firsts: the first time they were mistaken for a boy; the first time they purposely discarded their bikini top so they could join the boys at the local swimming pool; and the first time they were chastised for using the women’s washroom. Ivan also explores their years as a young butch, dealing with new infatuations and old baggage, and life as a gender-box-defying adult, in which they offer advice to young people while seeking guidance from others. (And for tomboys in training, there are even directions on building your very own unicorn trap.)
Tomboy Survival Guide warmly recounts Ivan’s adventures and mishaps as a diffident yet free-spirited tomboy, and maps their journey through treacherous gender landscapes and a maze of labels that don’t quite stick, to a place of self-acceptance and an authentic and personal strength. These heartfelt, funny, and moving stories are about the culture of difference—a “guide” to being true to one’s self.

How did Jessie enter reader and pipers life ?
Were readers Australian and arsenal teammates protective when reader introduced Jessie to them ?
I think even though sam and Jessie were close sam would have warned Jessie to not hurt piper and reader
this is a long one whoops
jessie just kinda… stumbled into their lives. they met through sam on a complete whim, the three of them just so happened to be in the same place at the same time. sam introduced them thinking nothing of it but reader and jessie kept crossing paths on their own before exchanging numbers and seeing eachother in accidental secret.
the aussies (bar sam, steph and caitlin) were concerned. not about jessie as a person, but more so about piper getting too attached. they accepted the fact that you were young and certainly not going to stay single forever, but they were also concerned because jessie was fresh out of college and had no life experience. taking on a kid was hard work especially when the kid wasn’t biologically yours and they had been afraid that despite jessie’s open and kind nature, she wasn’t going to be able to handle it.
jessie was properly introduced during international break when australia and canada played against eachother and had their concerns quickly squashed when they realised that not only had she dived head first into the deep end, she could swim just fine. the way she interacted with piper and cared for her meant a lot to the team and she had quickly and unknowingly proved herself to them.
arsenal, on the other hand, were on high alert. it truely didn’t matter how much cait, steph and lydia pleaded jessie’s case, they weren’t having it. the team was respectful of course but there were a few times when they voiced their concerns to eachother and to you. leah and katie were the loudest by far, having almost talked you out of being with jessie multiple times in the beginning. others like manu, kim and jen were fairly confident in your ability to pick a partner and were able to clearly see that there was no way that you would date someone without piper in the forefront of your mind.
viv was actually the one to step up and ask you to meet jessie first. she could see how heavily it was weighing you down so she organised the three of you and piper to go for breakfast so that she could get to know jessie away from a footballing environment. the two of them enjoyed themselves and viv walked away quite confident that jessie was no threat to you or to piper. when she told the girls as such, most of them backed off. viv was clear headed and a good judge of character, if she was happy with jessie then there was no reason for anybody else not to be.
leah and katie did not share this sentiment and you had to put your foot down when they mouthed off about jessie not knowing that piper was in the room with them. when piper came running to you, you had been furious with the two of them for not only being careless about who they were talking in front of, but also because piper had been distraught after hearing it. it was the first time you’d raised your voice at anybody on the team. you’d finally layed down the law, telling them that as much as you appreciated their concern, you were an adult and perfectly capable of making your own decisions about who you dated. you told them that not only does jessie show the both of you the upmost respect but that piper adores her and actively wants her around.
katie and leah got the message and spent the week apologising to both you and piper, even sitting the little girl down to talk to her and explain why they were saying the things they were saying. it was then that you actually introduced jessie to the team properly at your birthday dinner and katie and leah had quickly realised that they were overreacting and blowing things wayyyyyy out of proportion.
(even though they were doing it purely out of love)
sam had accidentally found out about your relationship whilst babysitting piper and was shocked to say the least. she didn’t expect the two of you to hit it off the way you did, but was happy for you regardless once you explained to her that jessie had met piper and that all was good. sam had still spoken to jessie about the two of you though. she explained all that you went through whilst you were pregnant and that jessie had been the first person that piper had seen you date. she was quite firm with her, stressing the fact that she can’t just play house now and decide that it was too much later down the line. sam obviously knew that sometimes relationships just don’t work out, and that’s fine, but she really tried to get across the fact that a little girl could get in the crossfire of a breakup and that she needed to tread lightly.
jessie had understood but also told sam that for the minute, she was nothing more than a really good friend to you in piper’s eyes. the two of you had been really careful when intergrading jessie into piper’s life and routine and jessie had told sam as such, making sure to really get across the fact that this isn’t just her playing around. she was young, yes, but she wasn’t an idiot. she cared a lot about the two of you and wanted nothing more then to continue to be in your lives as long as you would let her.
it put sam at ease hearing it directly from jessie’s mouth and not just knowing it. from then on, both teams were quite supportive and happy, especially when they got to see more of jessie with piper as the relationship progressed.
