Full reply, actually: living in your comfort zone, no matter what it is, is not a hot idea.
I know. Bullshit! Unfair! But it's not.
Story time: when my dad first got his cancer diagnosis, my mother...did not cope. She refused to watch anything but Scooby-Doo and wouldn't play anything except the easiest games we own, which she had played already. She could probably speedrun them. That was all she did. No crafts, no reading, no nothing. Scooby-Doo and Mario and that was fucking it. Not judging, but it wasn't healthy. And it didn't help. Her anxiety got so bad that one day, I went out to recover the car after a storm and our neighbor (convicted sex offender, for context, broke into someone's house and assaulted her, has creeped on us before) was out doing yardwork.
My mother saw him and proceeded to scream and cry (not hyperbole; my dad got home and she was in literal red-faced hysterics) for me not to...take three minutes to cover the car, because the neighbor was outside and it wasn't safe and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh--
It was ridiculous. Cards on the table, it was utterly absurd. I'm not saying her refusal to engage with new media made her that way, but I think her refusal to get out of her comfort zone did her no favors. My father agreed. We steamrolled her and got her a copy of Breath of the Wild, which she had refused initially because 'it looks too hard'. We staged an intervention via Link. We had no other choice. It may not have been the nicest thing, but we basically held her Nintendo hostage. We made a deal: you play this for one weekend, and if you really can't do it, you can go back to your, for lack of a better descriptor, baby games.
She hated it for the first two days. Complained it was too hard. Complained she didn't know where to go or what to do and why are the puzzles so hard and yadda-yadda.
Come Monday, when she can go ahead and go back to Mario, guess what she puts in.
Not Mario. She toughed it out enough to get to Impa and get shit rolling, and honestly, her anxiety is still bad to this day (fair: we were all going through dark times and I am in no way judging her for struggling), but she largely kept it together after that. No more hysterics about me covering a car.
i promise its not ableist when people say you should try things that arent kids shows and fanfiction
#for my fellow aces going 'but sex scenes gross'#(yeah they can be)#a tip#SKIM OR SKIP#97% of the time there is nothing plot-relevant and you will not miss anything except a wang#expand your comfort zone i promise it's good for you#before people come howling down at me about neurodivergency i am autistic as hell i get it#but it's a good thing sometimes#you might find your new love anyway you just never know

Tips for writing those gala scenes, from someone who goes to them occasionally:
Generally you unbutton and re-button a suit coat when you sit down and stand up.
You’re supposed to hold wine or champagne glasses by the stem to avoid warming up the liquid inside. A character out of their depth might hold the glass around the sides instead.
When rich/important people forget your name and they’re drunk, they usually just tell you that they don’t remember or completely skip over any opportunity to use your name so they don’t look silly.
A good way to indicate you don’t want to shake someone’s hand at an event is to hold a drink in your right hand (and if you’re a woman, a purse in the other so you definitely can’t shift the glass to another hand and then shake)
Americans who still kiss cheeks as a welcome generally don’t press lips to cheeks, it’s more of a touch of cheek to cheek or even a hover (these days, mostly to avoid smudging a woman’s makeup)
The distinctions between dress codes (black tie, cocktail, etc) are very intricate but obvious to those who know how to look. If you wear a short skirt to a black tie event for example, people would clock that instantly even if the dress itself was very formal. Same thing goes for certain articles of men’s clothing.
Open bars / cash bars at events usually carry limited options. They’re meant to serve lots of people very quickly, so nobody is getting a cosmo or a Manhattan etc.
Members of the press generally aren’t allowed to freely circulate at nicer galas/events without a very good reason. When they do, they need to identify themselves before talking with someone.
#late night thoughts#are these helpful at all?#obv these aren’t applicable to every gala scene#galas#writing tips#writing guide#these don’t apply as much in Gotham obvs#but that’s because it’s Gotham

hey! there's zero esims left for the connecting gaza campaign as of today. i remember you promoting them earlier. could you give them a much needed boost?
oh dang! unfamiliar with that particular campaign, as I always donate via crips for e-sims because it's super easy to do, but regardless let's go people!
#signal boost#esims for gaza#crips for esims#monday is 'whatever i got that i can give' day anyway so good timing#free palestine#only thing to watch out is how much of a tip you're giving on this site bc it defaults to. super high? which. I get but c'mon#I'm here to give the money to THEM not the host site ok

if you're trying to get into the head of your story's antagonist, try writing an "Am I the Asshole" reddit post from their perspective, explaining their problems and their plans for solving them. Let the voice and logic come through.

this is your gentle reminder to stop fighting against your adhd and instead structure your life around it
buy a pack of chapsticks and put one in the pocket of all of your coats and jackets because you always forget to bring one and chapped lips is sensory hell
leave important things where you can see them. if they go in a box or a drawer you will forget they exist
put any appointments or deadlines in your phone calendar As Soon As you get them. set a reminder for a week before, a day before, an hour before, as many as you need as often as you need them.
when that little voice in your head says "i dont need to write that down, ill remember it" that is the devil talking!!! write it down anyway!!
plan for down time. have a few hours at the end of every day to just do fun stuff like engage in your hyperfixations. even if you didnt get all of your work done that day, have the rest anyway. you probably spent the whole day beating yourself up for not doing what you Should be doing, so you still need the break.
if you never eat vegetables because its too much effort to chop and cook them, get the frozen or canned shit. it doesnt go off for ages and you just have to microwave it. theres no point buying fresh vegetables if they just keep going off and being left to rot in the bottom of your fridge
if you struggle to decide what to have for dinner every day, take the decision out of it. choose a set of meals and eat those on rotation until you get sick of them, then choose some new ones and do it again.
its not stupid if it works! our brains literally have a chemical deficiency. you are allowed to accommodate yourself. go forth and stop making your life more difficult than it has to be because "this shouldn't be this hard". it is hard, so make it easier.

Tutorial for drawing characters with cleft lip! Sorry that it's mostly unilateral-centric but it makes up the vast majority of resources and photos. Still tried to get tips for drawing bilateral clefts in though.
Keep in mind that this is an introductory drawing tutorial and has some generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People 👍
If you draw any characters using this feel free to tag me!
Consider supporting me on ko-fi if you find this to be helpful.

STOP DOING THIS IN INJURY FICS!!
Bleeding:
Blood is warm. if blood is cold, you’re really fucking feverish or the person is dead. it’s only sticky after it coagulates.
It smells! like iron, obv, but very metallic. heavy blood loss has a really potent smell, someone will notice.
Unless in a state of shock or fight-flight mode, a character will know they’re bleeding. stop with the ‘i didn’t even feel it’ yeah you did. drowsiness, confusion, pale complexion, nausea, clumsiness, and memory loss are symptoms to include.
blood flow ebbs. sometimes it’s really gushin’, other times it’s a trickle. could be the same wound at different points.
it’s slow. use this to your advantage! more sad writer times hehehe.
Stab wounds:
I have been mildly impaled with rebar on an occasion, so let me explain from experience. being stabbed is bizarre af. your body is soft. you can squish it, feel it jiggle when you move. whatever just stabbed you? not jiggly. it feels stiff and numb after the pain fades. often, stab wounds lead to nerve damage. hands, arms, feet, neck, all have more motor nerve clusters than the torso. fingers may go numb or useless if a tendon is nicked.
also, bleeding takes FOREVER to stop, as mentioned above.
if the wound has an exit wound, like a bullet clean through or a spear through the whole limb, DONT REMOVE THE OBJECT. character will die. leave it, bandage around it. could be a good opportunity for some touchy touchy :)
whump writers - good opportunity for caretaker angst and fluff w/ trying to manhandle whumpee into a good position to access both sites
Concussion:
despite the amnesia and confusion, people ain’t that articulate. even if they’re mumbling about how much they love (person) - if that’s ur trope - or a secret, it’s gonna make no sense. garbled nonsense, no full sentences, just a coupla words here and there.
if the concussion is mild, they’re gonna feel fine. until….bam! out like a light. kinda funny to witness, but also a good time for some caretaking fluff.
Fever:
you die at 110F. no 'oh no his fever is 120F!! ahhh!“ no his fever is 0F because he’s fucking dead. you lose consciousness around 103, sometimes less if it’s a child. brain damage occurs at over 104.
ACTUAL SYMPTOMS:
sluggishness
seizures (severe)
inability to speak clearly
feeling chilly/shivering
nausea
pain
delirium
symptoms increase as fever rises. slow build that secret sickness! feverish people can be irritable, maybe a bit of sass followed by some hurt/comfort. never hurt anybody.
ALSO about fevers - they absolutely can cause hallucinations. Sometimes these alter memory and future memory processing. they're scary shit guys.
fevers are a big deal! bad shit can happen! milk that till its dry (chill out) and get some good hurt/comfort whumpee shit.
keep writing u sadistic nerds xox love you
ALSO I FORGOT LEMME ADD ON:
YOU DIE AT 85F
sorry I forgot. at that point for a sustained period of time you're too cold to survive.
pt 2
also please stop traumadumping in the notes/tags, that's not the point of this post. it's really upsetting to see on my feed, so i'm muting the notifs for this post. if you have a question about this post, dm me, but i don't want a constant influx of traumatic stories. xox
