Bought the most expensive Pencil™ of my life to test out drawing on an iPad whilst I was on hols

#art #doodle #battle priest #so i won an ipad at a conference earlier this year and had no idea what to do with it lol #it's now my “temporary tablet” when i'm away #and want to do art but im not away long enough to bring my actual wacom #speaking of which drawing directly on a screen is so weird im still an Intuos5 type of person XD #and the lack of keyboard shortcuts got some taking used to #sketchbook is a pretty neat free app tho #i was gonna try and use Fresco but i immediately uninstalled it once i realised you could ONLY save things to the cloud in it #side note the slight tilt to the yellow bar in Rire's pic irks me but i literally did that on purpose to make ppl uncomfortable/aggravated #SO GOOD TO KNOW IT'S WORKING I GUESS XD #sz

Finished!

A lazy summer day by a stream~

I finally put my illustration degree into good use and made a proper traditional illustration (although still fanart 😅). Sometimes I really wanted to just "undo" some strokes or move some things around haha but man was this relaxing and satisfying to work on, also I am just so proud of the outcome. I haven't done a proper traditional illustration on this scale since my thesis so it's been a few years.

I took these photos with a phone outside to try and really capture the colors and details.

I was bored so I gave Home the Liminal Space Sickness™ lol, backgrounds are a lot easier when they don't follow any perspective rules lmao

I added in a couple pics I found on Pinterest to add ✨texture✨ (hence the eyes and the clouds looking nothing like the rest of the art lol)

Poor Wally just has to sit there while the inside of his house morphs into the backrooms or something, r.i.p. his sanity 😔😔

So I've been following @indieyuugure's The Mutation Situation (which is very very good), and after reading her post about how the turtles can't have it all, the next time I listened to this song this idea assaulted me like a vision.

So obviously I had to go on a weekend art binge.

#I took some liberties with the framing of events #gotta push things slightly sideways music-video style to match the picture in my head #also I still don't feel like I got the boys' hairstyles down #but hopefully they're readable enough lol #I probably could have figured it out + matched my vision even closer if I took 3-4 times as long #but the goal was to get this done before I return to work tomorrow #which I succeeded at!#and overall I'm pleased with the outcome #tmnt 2012 #the mutation situation #yza animates a thing

#...right- LOL #I was so scared of losing anyone I pretty much only summoned Yurgir!#ok let me ramble about this fight in the tags #I.....listen. Listen. I love this game with my entire heart. It's one of my favorite games of all time.#.....the final battle took me out of it a little bit ngjfkdlnshjk #It introduced a bunch of new mechanics and maybe I'm dumb but it felt like it wasn't super clear how everything worked #First I restarted it because I dropped a globe of invuln on the starting area thinking Orpheus could just activate the stones from that far #Then I restarted it bc I basically ran out of time on the rounds...except I didn't realize the fight would continue since every other-#-turn-based round counter was usually a game over #THEN I actually summoned the flaming fist to help clean up right at the end which made the camera SUPER confused when I went in the portal #It was a mess.#I still give the game an 11/10 tho lmao #Oh also Orpheus did something - I don't know what - and then the dragon just died with 120hp left. So. Wow.

When we watched the first episode (both halves) of Over the Garden Wall last night, my husband and I had this exchange:

"So the townspeople are skeletons dressing up in the pumpkins and stuff?"

"Yeah."

"Creepy."

Which doesn't sound like much, I know, but something about that struck me:

People's first impressions probably ARE that it's creepy.

And I totally forgot that was a thing.

Like, for me, I don't even really see it as creepy anymore? It's literally just things like "a place for the placeless", "a rest for the lost", or "the complete inverse of the Beast" to me. Not "here's where the undead dress up as jack-o-lanterns".

To me, it's "Come Ye Thankful People Come", not "Come Wayward Souls" (even though we hear the tune played there).

I look at it and see concepts like "harvest" and "peace", and that's why I like Pottsfield.

But most people, on first glance, see concepts like "creepy" and "morbid", and that's why they like (or dislike) Pottsfield.

And that's just so foreign to me at this point, I had to stop and think about it.

#it's also funny because i feel like I'm turning into guidesman woodsman myself #because (spoilers) he kinda forgets to tell the boys about Pottsfield's whole deal with the skeletons #i wondered a little if that was realistic with how he's been watching over them #and i previously chalked it up to “he is terrible at communicating”#which is still true #but honestly now it kinda makes sense #if you'd seen Pottsfield the way he does for as long as he has #it'd be hard to think of it any other way #ESPECIALLY as something creepy or morbid #so while he still needs to work on communication this particular failing is understandable #(because it literally happened to me lol)#over the garden wall #salt and light #otgw pottsfield #otgw enoch #otgw woodsman #guidesman au #in the tags #also no hate to people who see the creepy side more #this is literally just me realizing that you exist
