THE X-FILES (1993-2018)
SEASON EIGHT — I will go on record to say this: that I have seen things that I cannot explain. I have observed phenomena that I cannot deny. And that as a scientist and a serious person it is a badge of honor not to dismiss these things because someone thinks they're BS.

Im not sure if anyone's said this before (if anyone has, my bad. Im a little slow) but in season 1, episode 1. Dazai is doing his daily suicide ritual and finds atsushi during it.
What i wanna ask is how did kunikida find him so early without any contact?
Like, i know dazai lost his phone and everything so he didnt call. So how —
There are three possible answers:
1. Dazai knew about Atsushi and called kunikida beforehand (kind of unlikely?)
2. Dazai called Kunikida before his submersion to annoy him (read: save him from dying if need be and not make a big deal outta it)
3. Kunikida has saved Dazai too many times to count and already knows dazai's suicide spots and checks them one by one if Dazai randomly goes missing.

One-Shot: Risk and Reward
Summary:
During a dangerous mission, Y/N finds herself in over her head, but Azriel arrives just in time to save her, reinforcing their bond and teaching her the importance of trust and partnership.
Word Count: 978
Warnings: This story contains scenes of peril and physical confrontation, moments of intense fear, and themes of danger. Reader discretion is advised.
Velaris was unusually quiet that night, the streets empty and the sky dark with an impending storm. Y/N stood on the balcony of the House of Wind, staring out at the city below. The mission she had just returned from had been dangerous—more dangerous than she had anticipated. Her mind was still buzzing with adrenaline, but a sense of calm washed over her as the first raindrops began to fall.
She heard footsteps behind her and turned to see Azriel approaching, his expression a mix of concern and frustration. His shadows were restless, swirling around him like a dark storm of their own.
"Why do I feel like you enjoy getting yourself in danger?" Azriel asked, his voice low but edged with worry.
Y/N sighed, leaning against the railing. "I don’t enjoy it, Azriel. But sometimes, it’s necessary."
Azriel stopped a few steps away from her, his gaze intense. "You could have been killed tonight, Y/N. Do you understand that?"
She met his eyes, her own filled with defiance and a touch of guilt. "I know the risks, Azriel. I’m not reckless. I do what I have to do to get the job done."
He stepped closer, his frustration boiling over. "And what if the job gets you killed? What then? Have you ever thought about what that would do to me? To us?"
Y/N’s heart ached at the pain in his voice. She knew he cared deeply for her, but she hadn’t realized just how much her actions affected him. "Azriel, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you."
Azriel’s expression softened slightly, but his eyes were still filled with concern. "I worry because I care about you, Y/N. More than you know."
She took a step closer, her hand reaching out to touch his arm. "I care about you too, Azriel. But you have to trust me. I know what I’m doing."
He shook his head, his shadows wrapping around them both in a protective embrace. "It’s not about trust. It’s about the fact that I can’t lose you. I won’t lose you."
Y/N’s breath caught in her throat at the raw emotion in his voice. She had always known that their bond was strong, but hearing him say those words made her realize just how deep his feelings went. "Azriel..."
He took her hand in his, his grip firm but gentle. "Promise me you’ll be more careful. Promise me you’ll think about us before you throw yourself into danger."
Y/N nodded, her heart swelling with love and gratitude. "I promise, Azriel. I’ll be more careful."
Azriel’s eyes softened further, and he pulled her into a tight embrace. "Thank you," he whispered, his voice filled with relief. "I just can’t bear the thought of losing you."
She held him close, the rain now falling steadily around them. "You won’t lose me, Azriel. I’m right here. And I’m not going anywhere."
Two days later, Y/N found herself in the heart of Velaris, on a mission that required stealth and precision. The target was a group of mercenaries who had been causing trouble in the city, and Y/N had been tasked with gathering information. Confident in her abilities, she had ventured out alone.
But things had gone wrong. The mercenaries were more organized than she had anticipated, and she quickly found herself cornered in a dark alley, her heart pounding in her chest. She fought valiantly, but the odds were against her. Just as she was about to be overwhelmed, she felt a familiar, cold dread settling over her.
"Not now," she whispered to herself, her hands shaking as she tried to hold her ground. "Not like this."
As the mercenaries closed in, a shadow darted through the alley, swift and silent. Azriel emerged from the darkness, his wings flaring out menacingly as his shadows enveloped the attackers. Within moments, the mercenaries were disarmed and subdued, their weapons clattering to the ground.
Azriel turned to Y/N, his eyes blazing with a mix of anger and relief. "I told you to be careful," he said, his voice low and intense.
Y/N felt a wave of emotions crash over her—fear, relief, and frustration. "I thought I had it under control," she replied, her voice trembling. "I didn’t expect them to be so organized."
Azriel’s expression softened, and he stepped closer, his hands gently cupping her face. "You don’t have to do this alone, Y/N. You have me. Always."
Tears welled in her eyes as she realized just how close she had come to disaster. "I was so scared, Azriel," she admitted, her voice breaking. "I thought... I thought it was the end."
Azriel pulled her into a tight embrace, his shadows wrapping around them both. "But it wasn’t," he murmured. "I’m here, and I’ll always be here to protect you."
Y/N clung to him, her heart racing as she processed the intensity of the moment. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you for saving me."
Azriel pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, his own heart pounding with relief. "You’re worth saving, Y/N. Every single time."
As they stood there, wrapped in each other’s arms, the rain continued to fall, washing away the fear and replacing it with a sense of safety and love. Y/N knew that she had a lot to learn about trust and partnership, but with Azriel by her side, she felt ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
And as they walked back to the House of Wind, hand in hand, Y/N couldn’t help but feel grateful for the bond they shared. Despite the risks and dangers, she knew that they were stronger together. And no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them as a team, united by their love and their unbreakable bond.

what kind of sauce are they putting in the link click audio drama. HELLO? THE LITERAL LAST SCENE OF THE LAST EPISODE?
程小时: 说起来,我们第一次见面,也是在篮球场吧。 陆光: 是啊。 程小时: 你我本无缘,全靠一颗球。 陆光: 我就不该答应你比那场。
cheng xiaoshi: speaking of which, the first time we met was also on a basketball court, wasn't it? lu guang: it was. cheng xiaoshi: (half-jokingly) you and i weren't meant to be [lit. "originally have no fate"?]. this is all because of one basketball. lu guang: i really shouldn't have agreed to play that match.
Tumblr media
(the important bits are from google translate because i am bad at mandarin. also i did transcribe this off just the audio + i don't have access to captions or know where to find official transcripts. so i hope i got this right 🙏)
#am i crazy for being insane about this exchange am i crazy. i think i might be crazy#i cant read lu guangs tone on that last bit of dialogue hes too deadpan all of the time so i cant tell if hes joking. but like. HELLO??????#actually i will try regardless. im of the opinion that he in fact was not joking. his tone of voice feels softer than when hes sarcastic#+ the 2 full seconds of pause before. still hes so deadpan usually that cheng xiaoshi probably just takes it as a joke#seagull.mp3#link click spoilers#this show is mean#i will in fact maintag this. its important#link click#cxs#lg#idk i have an insane crack theory that maybe lu guang wasn't actually intending to befriend cheng xiaoshi in this timeline (jumping off of#duck's insane crack theory that maybe the only way to save cheng xiaoshi is if lu guang never meets him) but cheng xiaoshi surprised him by#1) inviting him to join the game 2) saying all that stuff about passing the ball = trust. and wouldnt it be beautiful to have that sort of#partnership for life. in the sense that if the only way for cheng xiaoshi to be saved is to never meet lu guang then cheng xiaoshi cannot b#saved. because he will choose lu guang and their partnership in every timeline.#my source for this is vibes. and the stuff haolin was saying (?) about cheng xiaoshi already feeling some sort of connection to lu guang#during their “first meeting” in this timeline.#anyway yeah. link clicker agents you should listen to the audio drama if you havent already its good !!#beyond the mandated once per episode “lu guang wtf are you up to” moment the individual stories r also really really nice#and the trio shenanigans :]

re my tags. thinking about barry's ray toro supportive keanu reeves matrix post lol. in addition to ray calling gerard a genius for writing teenagers when everybody else thought it was a joke <- very funny confluence wherein ray seems to be the one person who frequently goes along with gerard's ideas because he just trusts his creative vision and can match his energy/concept quickly, even when other people don't, while simultaneously being as a guy who is self-professed as being lyrically dis-inclined.

hi! i always love your MDZS/CQL takes; can i ask what are the questions you think CQL is asking, as compared to MDZS?
I haven't actually revisited either canon in ages, which is making me nervous. what questions the novel is interested in can be pretty contentious all on its own! @mikkeneko has an excellent answer in the notes here which I reccomend to everyone. My own thoughts are honestly pretty scattered- I keep on deleting things and going hm, that's not quite right.
So, for the obvious-to-me example, people reasonably zero in on the creation of innocent doctors/radish farmers who Wen Ruohan is holding hostage. In CQL it's easy to infer that Wen Qing and Wen Ning are maybe the only cultivators and almost certainly the only combatants among the Wen remnants, and their status is much more ambiguous in the novel, which I personally think is asking, essentially, "and so what? were they wrong to run, when they had a chance? Do they deserve what Jin Guangshan will do to them if they go back? Aren't they just people, actually?" Whereas the question that CQL is asking is more to the effect of "What does Wen Qing owe these people, when she is their only defence? What is she entitled to do to save them, at other people's expense? If she fucks up that moral calculus, what then? Does it matter if she's personally fond of some of the outsiders who are going to get hurt? If one of them saved her brother? Later, this question will flip to what Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng, and the parallel to Jiang Cheng's situation in particular is, I think, genuinely pretty fun. You're giving up the Wen as soldiers who've laid down their arms in exchange for Wen Qing also grappling with leadership and the question of how many horrors she can stand to look the other way on to protect her own people. one reason I keep deleting so much is that a lot cql's changes were motivated at least in part by censorship, which I think we mostly share a general and justified distaste for! but I also think that within the bounds of that censorship the creative team put a lot of work into actually doing something interesting with those changes. Or, for another example- nieyao! There's a much greater emphasis on the nmj-jgy relationship, it's unambiguously very close and they are clearly extremely important to one another, and I think that's because the cql team has a lot to say about love, trust, power, and the ways those things interact, and that reflects back on all of the other relationships in play, including Wangxian. Almost every time, when CQL chooses change a relationship they make the characters in question closer- that's true for Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji, for Wen Qing and the Yunmeng contingent, for Zixuan and Mianmian, and Huaisang and Meng Yao. It's even true for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, who have a close and trusting relationship in first life! CQL puts a much greater emphasis on "all right, so you care, what next?" How do you choose someone and then choose to be good to them? What if there's a massive power disparity between you? What if you seriously disagree about your priorities and morals? How do you trust someone who's betrayed you? When is it a stupid choice to trust at all? How do you have faith that you know someone well enough for that trust to be meaningful?
for legal reasons i would like to specify that it's not that mdzs isn't interested in these problems. i do remember wangxian's literal trust fall. cql is asking these questions all the time about everyone. also for legal purposes i'm not suggesting that cql lwj and jc love each other. but! they establish a three month wartime partnership looking for wwx and then jc immediately drops him on wwx's say-so despite apparently having a positive enough opinion of him to tell wwx he thinks they should make up twice. lan wangji will later tell wwx he thinks he should loop jc in on the second flautist! these are people trying to navigate some kind of relationship/shared interest/community, as opposed to a hateful void. cql wants to say hey, how do you go about this? while I'm here and rambling cql also puts a lot of emphasis on wwx's connection to yunmeng and changes things up so instead of feeling alienated right before he leaves our last glimpse of him there is happily picking lotuses and playing with a kid! in both stories the narrative is asking who do you protect? who do you leave behind? can you ever get it back? but the angles are very different.
