[ID: A large bowl filled with rice noodles, julienned carrot and cucumber, piles of herbs, and grilled 'chicken' strips; a bowl of sauce with minced chili and garlic is to the side. End ID]
Bún sườn nướng chay (Vietnamese rice noodle salad)
This is a vegetarian ("chay") version of bún gà nướng, a Vietnamese rice noodle ("bún") salad with grilled chicken ("gà nướng"). Chewy rice noodles, fresh vegetables and herbs, and a tangy, slightly spicy sauce combine with grilled or pan-seared 'chicken' to create a rich, flavorful, well-rounded dish. A marinade of lemongrass, sugar, garlic, and vegetarian fish sauce caramelizes around the 'chicken' as it sears, creating a sweet-and-savory crispy coating that perfectly complements the bright, herbacious salad. This dish can be made with Vietnamese sườn non chay, or with any meat substitute you have on hand.
Recipe under the cut!
Patreon | Tip jar
Serves 4.
Ingredients:
For the nước chấm (dipping sauce):
1/2 cup water
Juice of 1 lime (2 Tbsp)
2 Tbsp rice vinegar
1/4 cup vegan fish sauce
3 Tbsp sugar
1 red chili (de-seeded and sliced)
3 cloves garlic, minced
Fish sauce doesn’t take “like” fish, merely fermented and intensely salty. You can buy a bottle of ready-made vegan fish sauce from a Southeast Asian brand such as Au Lac, or you can make your own by combining the following ingredients:
For the vegan fish sauce (nước mắm):
3 Tbsp liquid from a jar of fermented bean curd
1 Tbsp white miso paste
1 Tbsp light soy sauce
1/4 tsp salt
For the chicken (gà):
300g vegan chicken substitute (I used Gardein), or 100g sườn non chay
2 cloves garlic
1 stalk lemongrass (or substitute lemon zest or a bit of preserved lemon pulp)
Juice of 1 lime (2 Tbsp)
1 Tbsp vegan fish sauce
1 Tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce
1 Tbsp Vietnamese soy sauce
2 tsp vegetarian 'chicken' broth concentrate, or bột nêm chay (optional)
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp neutral oil
Sườn non chay may be found in bags online or at your local Asian grocery–the bags will be labelled “sườn non chay” as well as “vegan meat slice,” “textured soy bean protein,” “vegetarian food,” or “vegan food.”
Bột nêm is a Vietnamese seasoning sold in powder or granule form. Vegetarian (“chay”) versions of the seasoning may contain shiitake mushroom, lotus seeds, carrots, tomatoes, and kohlrabi, as well as salt and MSG. It can be purchased in pouches or boxes from an Asian grocery store, or you can use any other vegetable stock powder.
For the salad:
300g vermicelli rice noodles
2 cups bean sprouts
1 large carrot (julienned)
1 seedless cucumber (julienned)
6 leaves romaine lettuce (julienned)
1 bunch fresh cilantro
1 bunch fresh rau răm (Vietnamese mint), or mint
2 stalks green onion, sliced
Handful of peanuts
Fresh Vietnamese herbs can be found in the refrigerator section of an Asian grocery store, particularly one that specializes in southeast Asian food. You can also experiment with whatever leafy herbs you have on hand.
Instructions:
For the chicken:
1. (If using sườn non chay:) soak meat slices in cool water until rehydrated. Squeeze out excess water and cut each slice in half along its shortest dimension, to get two blocks of the original height and width.
2. Slice lemongrass. Peel away any tough, dry outer leaves to reveal the yellow-green leaves within. Remove the root end of each stalk, as well as the tough green portion at the top of each stalk (reserve this latter to boil in stocks). Thinly slice the tender yellow portion of each stalk.
Tumblr media
3. Mix all marinade ingredients in a large bowl. Marinate chicken for 20-30 minutes while you prepare the nước chấm and vegetables.
4. Remove the chicken from the bowl, leaving any excess marinade behind. Heat a couple teaspoons of oil on medium in a large pan then sear the chicken, turning once, until deeply golden brown on both sides (or use a charcoal grill). (If using a pan) filter marinade to remove lemongrass slices, then pour extra marinade over the chicken and cook, stirring often, until coated.
5. Cut chicken into strips, or as desired.
For the nước chấm:
1. Mix vinegar, lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, and water in a small saucepan. Heat, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved.
2. Remove from heat and add minced garlic and chili. Pour into a bowl and allow to cool.
For the salad:
1. Boil the vermicelli according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cool water to halt cooking. Toss with a little bit of neutral oil to avoid sticking.
2. Roast peanuts in a dry pan on medium-low, stirring often, until golden brown and fragrant.
3. Julienne carrot, cucumber, and lettuce. Roughly chop herbs.
4. Plate vermicelli followed by vegetables, herbs, chicken, and peanuts. Spoon some nước chấm over the salad and set remainder to the side to serve.

Delving into 8 Thai dipping sauces. 🥫🇹🇭
🇹🇭 When you think of Thai cuisine, what comes to mind? Is it the vibrant flavors, the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy, or perhaps the variety of dishes that bring excitement to every meal ?
💡 One key element that enhances the complexity and distinct flavors of Thai food is its dipping sauces. More than just condiments, these sauces offer unique blends of tastes that complement a wide range of dishes. From the fresh, coastal flavors of seafood sauces to the spicy tang of northeastern varieties, Thai dipping sauces showcase the country's rich culinary diversity.
Let’s explore eight essential Thai dipping sauces, their flavors, ingredients, and the cultural significance that makes them so beloved. 💝
.
1. Nam Jim Seafood (Seafood Dipping Sauce)
Nam Jim Seafood is a vibrant and flavorful sauce that perfectly complements a variety of seafood dishes. Known for its spicy, tangy, and slightly sweet profile, this sauce is a staple in Thai cuisine, particularly in coastal regions where seafood is abundant. It is typically served with grilled, steamed, or fried seafood, such as shrimp, calamari, clams, and fish, enhancing the natural sweetness of the seafood with its bright and punchy flavors.
The origins of Nam Jim Seafood are deeply rooted in Thailand's coastal areas, where the freshness of the sea’s bounty is celebrated with bold and complementary flavors.
.
2. Nam Jim Suki (Sukiyaki Dipping Sauce)
Nam Jim Suki, also known as Sukiyaki dipping sauce, is a flavorful blend that perfectly accompanies Thai-style hot pots and Thai BBQs (Moo Ka Ta). This sauce is characterized by its sweet, sour, and mildly spicy profile. The origins of Nam Jim Suki can be traced back to the influence of Chinese and Japanese cuisines, which were adapted by Thai cooks to suit local tastes.
.
3. Nam Pla Wan (Fruit Dipping Sauce)
Nam Pla Wan is a unique Thai dipping sauce that offers a delightful mix of sweet, savory, and slightly salty flavors, designed to pair with fresh, tart fruits. This sauce is a perfect example of how Thai cuisine masterfully balances contrasting flavors to create a harmonious and satisfying taste experience.
Traditionally, it is served with sour fruits such as green mango, santol, rose apple, and guava. The sweetness of the sauce contrasts beautifully with the tartness of these fruits, creating a refreshing and balanced snack.
.
4. Nam Jim Ajaad (Thai Cucumber Relish)
Nam Jim Ajaad is a dipping sauce with vinegar as its main component, providing a sour flavor. Salt and sugar are added to give it a slightly sweet and salty taste. Key ingredients like sliced cucumber, chili, and shallots help create a well-rounded flavor and reduce the sharpness of the vinegar.
This sauce is commonly used with grilled satay skewers, particularly pork or chicken. It also pairs wonderfully with deep-fried appetizers like minced pork or shrimp toast, offering a cool and tangy bite that cuts through the richness of fried foods.
.
5. Nam Jim Gai (Sweet Chili Sauce)
Nam Jim Gai, commonly known as Thai sweet chili sauce, is beloved for its sweet, sour, and mildly spicy flavor. This sauce has a sticky texture that clings well to foods, making it a popular choice for dipping. It is most commonly served with fried or grilled chicken, but it's also an excellent dip for fried foods, Thai vegetable spring rolls, and Thai fish cakes. The sweetness and slight spiciness enhance the flavors of these dishes without overpowering them.
.
6. Nam Jim Jaew (BBQ Dipping Sauce)
Nam Jim Jaew is a smoky, tangy, and spicy dipping sauce that hails from the Isan region of Thailand, known for its bold and complex flavors. It is most commonly served with Thai-style grilled meats, such as grilled pork neck, where it adds a smoky, spicy flavor that enhances the taste of the meat.
Nam Jim Jaew reflects the flavors of northeastern (Isan) Thai cuisine, where grilled meats are a staple. The use of toasted rice powder is a distinctive feature of Isan cooking, adding a unique texture and nutty flavor to the sauce.
.
7. Prik Nam Pla (Spicy Thai Sauce)
Prik Nam Pla is a staple Thai sauce known for its strong, savory, and spicy flavor. It's a simple yet powerful condiment that is essential to many Thai meals. The combination of fish sauce and chilies reflects the Thai preference for strong, umami-rich condiments that can be adjusted to individual tastes.
.
8. Nam Jim Look-Chin (Tamarind Dipping Sauce)
Nam Jim Look-Chin is a popular Thai tamarind-based dipping sauce characterized by its sweet and spicy flavor that pairs perfectly with grilled meatballs or fried snacks.
.
Thai dipping sauces are an essential part of the culinary landscape, each offering a unique combination of flavors that enhances the dishes they accompany. From the tangy and spicy Nam Jim Seafood to the sweet and savory Nam Pla Wan, these sauces not only reflect the rich diversity of Thai cuisine but also its deep-rooted cultural traditions and the art of Thai cooking.

Sababa Falafel Shop, 11011 Brookhurst St, Garden Grove, CA 92840
Tumblr media
I’m thankful that Sababa has such a large exterior sign that says falafel shop! Sababa is a popular Palestinian falafel shop. They serve halal meat. Fresh falafel is made throughout the day. Choose from dipping bowls, bowls (create your own: rice or lettuce, falafel or chicken, unlimited toppings), pita sandwiches with unlimited toppings, desserts, sides, and bottled drinks. A falafel pita is $9.99. They use extra thick Jerusalem pita bread or Jerusalem bread.
The pickles, salads, slaws, spreads, sauces, etc. are on display. You can pick and choose the toppings. Your order is assembled in front of you (like at Chipotle).
While I was placing my order, I was given a few piping hot round falafel balls. The balls were crispy on the outside but not heavily fried. They were made with chickpeas and spices but not herbs.
Falafel bowl with all the toppings ($11.99): they really like pickles! The bowl came with seasoned rice (yellow), 6 falafel balls drizzled with tahini, slaw, onions, lots of pickles, garlic sauce, tomato, onion, & cucumber salad, hot sauce, etc. The hot sauce was pretty salty on its own but when I mixed everything together it was fine (the salads were not salty). Loved how fresh and crunchy, sour and tangy the bowl was.
Mr. Froyo said the hummus was thick and had strong tahini flavor but wasn’t as thick as Israeli hummus. He enjoyed his meal.
The portions were generous and the prices reasonable. Plus, the food is assembled to order and ready quickly. And there’s a rewards program. Love this place! If only we lived closer. The shop is small with limited seating outside and a shared parking lot. The sign said there was more parking in the back.
5 out of 5 stars

A Middle Eastern restaurant menu typically showcases a variety of traditional and modern dishes that celebrate both the heritage and innovation of this culinary style. Here’s a look at some must-try dishes you’ll often find on a well-curated Middle Eastern food menu.
1. Hummus: The Quintessential Middle Eastern Dip
A staple on every Middle Eastern menu, hummus is a smooth, creamy dip made from blended chickpeas, tahini (sesame seed paste), lemon juice, and garlic. Often topped with olive oil and a sprinkle of paprika, this dish is served as an appetizer and pairs well with pita bread or fresh vegetables. 2. Shawarma: Savory Slices of Marinated Meat
Shawarma has gained international fame for its bold flavor and customizable nature. Thinly sliced meat, usually lamb, chicken, or beef, is marinated in a blend of spices and then slow-cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Shawarma can be served as a wrap, stuffed in pita bread with fresh vegetables, or as a plated dish. It’s one of the highlights on a Middle Eastern restaurant menu due to its blend of flavors, including hints of cumin, paprika, and garlic.
3. Falafel: Crispy and Flavorful Plant-Based Option

5. Fattoush: Fresh and Tangy Bread Salad
For a refreshing salad, try fattoush—a mix of fresh vegetables like tomatoes, cucumber, and radish, tossed with herbs and pieces of toasted or fried pita bread. Fattoush is light, nutritious, and often found on Middle Eastern menu as a side or a starter.

8. Stuffed Grape Leaves (Dolma)

9. Kunafa: The Sweet, Gooey Dessert
Kunafa is a dessert favorite throughout the Middle East, made with thin strands of pastry soaked in sugar syrup, layered with cheese or cream, and baked until golden. The combination of crispy pastry and soft cheese makes kunafa a delightful treat. Often garnished with crushed pistachios, this dessert is a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Pick of the Month: Downtown Kitchen
AUTHOR: ARTSY CHOW ROAMER
Pick of the Month:
DOWNTOWN KITCHEN
There are a number of high quality, consistently good eating spots in downtown Canton, Georgia. One of our latest favorites for date night dinners is Downtown Kitchen. Claiming not to follow trends but setting the standard, this local favorite wants to provide perfection for your best dining experience.
youtube
HISTORIC DOWNTOWN LOCATION
Located behind the black exterior at 140 East Marietta Street, this cozy casual spot offers bar, booth, table and outdoor patio dining options. Simplicity is the word of the day with entrees changing daily according to market and seasonal availability for a farm-to-table experience from a practiced hand in the kitchen.
We hit the place with friends most recently on a Friday evening without a reservation. We like early dining so the fact that Downtown opens earlier than most is great. At 4:30, we were one of two or three tables and had our pick of where to sit.
COCKTAILs & BREAD
Our waiter arrived with cocktail menus and trays of fluffy fresh bread with a spicy tomato dipping sauce on the side. We looked over the menu and odered a few drinks first. While some of us stuck to the usual like a martini with blue cheese olives, others chose a Tom Collins, a Georgia peach old fashioned and a ginger jackass mule from the make-your-own-mule choices.
Our drinks arrived quickly and perfectly with the right chill, glass choice and garnishes-both pretty and delicious. They were a heavenly match with the bread and spice of the dip. If those don’t do it for you, there are Margarita and Sangria choices as well as a very nice curated menu of white and red wines.
California, Oregon and Washington are represented with a couple of Rieslings, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnays ranging from $7-11 a glass. Italy and Eastern Europe provide some nice Pinots. California and Italy provided some lovely reds like Malbec, Zinfandel and Cabernets ranging from $8-12.
FIRST COURSEs
We opted to order both Caesar and kitchen salad plates for table sharing with our bread and drinks. Both were very good with fresh crisp greens and just the right amount of dressings with anchovy forward creaminess and sweet tangy balsamic vinaigrette.
The caesar had crunchy bits of sunflower seeds for a twist making it even saltier with the sprinkle of parmesan. The kitchen offered juicy grape tomatoes, red onion and crisp cucumber with bits of blue cheese.
SECOND COURSE
Pay attention to the blackboards for the daily soups and specials. We ordered the French onion and fall squash for a second course. Both were a tasty different take on the usual recipes. The broth had a different herb that popped with gruyere cheese instead of Swiss while the squash offered creamy smooth texture and warm herbs like cinnamon and nutmeg.
We also decided to try the Asian tuna tartar. Served in a martini glass, the fish was rough chopped in small cubes and super chilled. Cold avocadoes and chopped green onions were mixed in with a dressing of soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar and sesame oil for shut-the-front-door goodness topped off with a crunchy crisp fried wonton chip.
Want other choices? You got them with fried calamari or shrimp, hanger steak wontons or crab cakes. We’ve also had the spinach and artichoke dip mixed with cheese along with tortilla chips for some lip smacking dipping on previous visits.
ENTREES
The kitchen specializes in steak and offers a lot of different items to pair with it should you opt to go that way for your entree. A sirloin, filet, strip or hanger are the four cuts of choice. Your pairings range from Asher blue cheese to mushrooms and chimichurri or horseradish sauces.
We opted to try a special from the board as one choice and took two items off the regular menu as well. Fried green tomatoes came to the table crispy and hot with a touch of sour cream, sweet berry jam and micro greens for a perfect finish. The mushroom raviolis with tomato cream sauce are a menu staple that everyone raves about. They were pretty gosh darn good. Hands down however, the winner was the short ribs over creamy mashed potatoes with crispy fried onion rings. The demi-glace was delicious and hearty while the meat was fork tender.
DESSERTS
A word about desserts. Leave room for some. We decided two to share was about all we could do so pistachio pie and creme brule were the evening picks. The former was creamy and semi-sweet with the crunchiness of fresh nuts on top. The brule classic and prepared properly with the crisp sugar topping to the finish.
COZY DATE NIGHTS
I like sitting at the bar on the weekends just to run in and grab a quick drink sometimes. The interior is casual, dark and cozy which makes for the best date night dinners. The high booths provide privacy and a level of quiet that makes this restaurant unusual as well. Loud experiences are the norm everywhere anymore so this spot makes it easy to have a conversation with your peeps.
youtube
CONCLUSION
This is the same team that brought you Queenie’s and Goin’ Coastal also in downtown Canton. So you can see why this spot should be next on your bucket list whether it’s for date night or a get together with friends. The food is simple, well prepared, fresh and tasty. The seasonal changes mean you won’t tire of the menu. You never know what might be on the blackboard as a special. Grab your better half and check it out soon. Tell ‘em I sent ya OK?
If you enjoyed what you read, you might also enjoy other posts under Edible Fare. There you will find restaurant reviews, recipes, foodie tips and best spots to eat in a variety of cities. Check out the next post on traveling off-season in Italy. Until next time…

Tumblr media
Sure, there is nothing wrong with good old mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. But those classic flavors would be even more appreciated if given a rest for a while. And, in the meantime, here are ten condiments from all over the world that have been waiting on the benches for their day on the spotlight on your diner table. Did you ever hear about oyster sauce? Or lingonberry jam? Take a quick look and see if any of these flavor enhancers tempt you!
Tumblr media
Let us start this list with a sauce that is served throughout the Balkan nations as a relish or a side dish. The so-called "Serbian Salsa", ajvar is a condiment made principally from sweet bell peppers and eggplants.
The relish became a popular side dish throughout Yugoslavia after World War II and is made of roasted peppers. Ajvar can be consumed as a bread spread or as a side dish. Ajvar has a few variations. One variation contains tomato and eggplant, and another green bell peppers and oregano.
Tumblr media
Hoisin sauce gives a tangy glaze to any dish. Essentially a Chinese barbecue sauce, this condiment lies at the intersection of brown sauce and hot sauce. Peking ducks are almost always dressed with hoisin sauce.
This is a thick, fragrant sauce commonly used as a glaze for meat, an addition to stir fry, or as a dipping sauce. It is dark-colored, sweet, and salty. Although regional variants exist, hoisin sauce usually includes soybeans, fennel, red chili peppers, and garlic.
Tumblr media
A Korean sauce, gochujang is a savory and spicy hot pepper paste that gives many dishes from its country of origin their unique taste. It is made from chili, fermented soybeans, sticky rice, and salt, it’s mostly combined with other condiments when used.
Traditionally, it would be naturally fermented over years in ceramic vessels on an elevated stone platform in the backyard but these days it is prepared in a more industrial environment.
Tumblr media
As the name implies, fish sauce is a liquid condiment made from fish. Its pungent smell may come as a shock to the first-time user but it is a flavor one gets used to. It helps enhance the taste of the ingredients it touches.
It is mixed with sugar, chili, lime juice, and garlic, and due to its ability to add a savory umami flavor to dishes, it has been embraced globally by chefs and home cooks. It can be used as a seasoning during or after cooking and as a base in dipping sauces.
Tumblr media
A familiar name to many, chutney is made of fruit or vegetable marinated in vinegar, spices, and sugar, chutneys can be sweet, savory, or spicy. Chutneys are made in a wide variety of forms, such as a tomato relish, a ground peanut garnish, yogurt, or curd, cucumber, spicy coconut, spicy onion, or mint dipping sauce.
Vinegar was added to the recipe for English-style chutney that traditionally aims to give a long shelf life so that autumn fruit can be preserved for use throughout the year or to be sold as a commercial product. In Western cuisine, chutney is often eaten with hard cheese or with cold meats.
Tumblr media
Miso is a byproduct of soy sauce, but it has a life of its own. Apart from being used to make soup, the paste can be served directly as a topping on rice.
High in protein and rich in vitamins and minerals, it is used for sauces and spreads, pickling vegetables, fish, or meats. Different varieties of miso have been described as salty, sweet, earthy, fruity, and savory.
Tumblr media
Another familiar name on the list, aioli begins with a ground garlic paste before whipping in egg yolk, olive oil, and mustard. The emulsion is sometimes seasoned with lemon juice, saffron, or chili. It is a perfect dip for seafood, veggie crisps, or french fries.
The names mean "garlic and oil" in Catalan and Provençal. It is found in the cuisines of the Mediterranean coasts of Spain and France. Some versions of the sauce are closer to a garlic mayonnaise, incorporating egg yolks and lemon juice, whereas other versions lack egg yolk and contain more garlic.
Tumblr media
Perhaps it is more than "just" a condiment, as it also has steamed, fried sausage, usually pork, typically cut into bite-sized chunks. But in this case, we are highlighting the curry ketchup that goes with it.
Currywurst sauce is based on spiced ketchup or tomato paste topped with curry powder, or a ready-made ketchup seasoned with curry and other spices. The dish is often served with french fries.
Tumblr media
As exotic as the name sounds, it is not a rare condiment. Oyster sauce is a viscous dark brown condiment thickened with corn starch, made from oyster extracts, sugar, salt, and water.
Oyster sauce is saltier and is used more often in everyday cooking than hoisin sauce. It’s as suitable for marinating a steak at home as it is for dressing boiled choi sum.
Tumblr media
Lingonberries grow on a short evergreen shrub in the Arctic tundra throughout the Northern Hemisphere from Eurasia to North America. And, in Sweden, these little berries are used to make delicious jam that is used as a condiment for meat courses, such as meatballs, beef stew, or fried herring.
Traditional dishes such as potato pancakes, spinach pancakes, and black pudding are commonly combined with lingonberries. The jam can also be paired with oatmeal porridge, mashed potatoes, and some desserts.

When it comes to Persian food, ingredients are essential, and at any renowned Persian restaurant in Dubai, you can expect the finest quality. Savor Traditional Persian Main Courses
At a top Persian restaurant in Dubai, you’ll find an impressive selection of main dishes, from the famous kebabs to traditional stews. Kebabs are an integral part of Persian cuisine, with juicy, marinated meats grilled to perfection. Try koobideh, a tender minced lamb or beef kebab, or joojeh, a saffron-marinated chicken kebab that is both flavorful and aromatic.

Mediterranean Cuisine: Where Tradition Meets Flavor
Mediterranean cuisine is a blend of culinary traditions from countries such as Greece, Italy, Turkey, Spain, and Morocco. What unites these regions is a love for fresh vegetables, aromatic herbs, olive oil, lean proteins, and grains. The Mediterranean diet is not only known for its health benefits but also for its use of simple ingredients that are transformed into flavorful and memorable dishes.

Signature Mediterranean Dishes at Orient Express
Our Mediterranean-inspired menu includes a variety of signature dishes that bring the flavors of the region to life. Here are a few highlights that will take you on a culinary journey through the Mediterranean.
1. Baba Ganoush with Warm Pita
A staple in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, baba ganoush is a creamy, smoky eggplant dip that is perfect for sharing. At Orient Express, we roast the eggplants until they are soft and tender, then blend them with tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil to create a smooth, velvety dip. Served with warm pita bread, this dish is a great way to start your Mediterranean meal. The combination of smoky eggplant and zesty lemon creates a fresh yet comforting flavor that’s hard to resist.
2. Lamb Kofta with Cucumber Yogurt Sauce
Transport your taste buds to the Mediterranean with our succulent lamb kofta. These seasoned lamb meatballs are mixed with fresh herbs, garlic, and aromatic spices, then grilled to perfection. Served with a refreshing cucumber yogurt sauce, the kofta offers a delicious balance of rich, savory flavors and cool, tangy toppings. Paired with grilled vegetables and fluffy couscous, this dish is a true celebration of Mediterranean ingredients. Each bite brings you the essence of Mediterranean street food, right here at Orient Express.
3. Grilled Halloumi Salad
For a light but flavorful option, our grilled halloumi salad is a must-try. Halloumi, a semi-hard cheese that originates from Cyprus, is known for its unique ability to hold its shape when grilled. We serve it with a fresh salad of mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onions, all drizzled with a simple lemon and olive oil dressing. The salty, crispy halloumi paired with the crisp vegetables makes this salad a perfect balance of textures and flavors. It’s a healthy, satisfying dish that exemplifies the simplicity and freshness of Mediterranean cuisine.
4. Seafood Paella
Our take on the classic Spanish dish, seafood paella is a Mediterranean feast in a bowl. This iconic dish features a fragrant saffron rice base cooked with a variety of fresh seafood, including shrimp, mussels, and squid. Flavored with garlic, tomatoes, and smoked paprika, the rice is infused with the briny taste of the sea and the warmth of Mediterranean spices. Each bite offers a delightful combination of tender seafood and savory rice, creating a dish that is as visually stunning as it is flavorful. Paella is a true representation of Spain’s love for communal eating, making it the perfect dish for sharing with friends and family.
5. Vegetarian Moussaka
Moussaka is a beloved dish in Greece and across the Mediterranean, and our vegetarian version delivers the same comforting flavors without the meat. Layers of roasted eggplant, zucchini, and potatoes are combined with a spiced tomato sauce and topped with a creamy béchamel sauce. Baked until golden and bubbly, this dish is hearty, flavorful, and satisfying. The rich, creamy texture of the béchamel combined with the earthiness of the vegetables makes this vegetarian moussaka a standout dish for plant-based eaters and meat lovers alike.
Mediterranean Food: A Feast for the Senses
At Orient Express, we believe that food should engage all of your senses, and Mediterranean cuisine is the perfect example of this philosophy. Momos with Momos Chutney
Tumblr media
Momos are a popular snack that everyone loves. Why not make them even better by pairing them with momos chutney? This chutney is spicy, tangy, and complements the soft dumplings perfectly. To enjoy this delicious combination, simply steam some momos until they are cooked through.
Serve them hot with a generous dip of momos chutney on the side. If you want to spice things up even more, try adding a sprinkle of chilli flakes for an extra kick! You can buy momos chutney online from Veeba, making it easy to have this delicious flavour at your fingertips.
Schezwan Chilli Chutney Stir-Fry
If you love bold flavours, the schezwan chilli chutney from Veeba is a must-try! This chutney packs a punch and is perfect for stir-frying your favourite vegetables or proteins. Start by heating some oil in a pan, then add chopped vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, and broccoli. Next, add a tablespoon or two of schezwan chilli chutney and toss everything together. The result? A vibrant and spicy dish that will make your taste buds dance!
Chutney Sandwiches
Another simple way to use these chutneys is in sandwiches. Take two slices of bread and spread a generous layer of momos chutney or schezwan chutney on each slice. Add your choice of fillings—think cheese, cucumber, or even leftover grilled chicken. Press the slices together and cut them into triangles for a quick and tasty snack. These chutney sandwiches are perfect for lunchboxes or quick bites when you're on the go!
Chutney Dips for Parties
If you're hosting a gathering, consider serving chutney dips alongside your appetizers. Mix momos chutney with some yogurt for a creamy dip that pairs well with chips and crackers.
