study methods you might want to try:
84% of students rely on rereading, which provides minimal benefits. Whether you're studying for a tough test or quiz, or you need a better understanding on the subject, these methods might help you.
Spaced Repetition - Which means separating your study sessions into groups. Day 1, Day 3, Day 6, etc.
Active Recall - One of the most effective and successful study methods -- in my opinion. Active recall teaches us to approach the test/exam etc. into a different angle. Flashcards, practice questions, practice tests. This method uses self-testing to help your brain memorize, retain and retrieve information more easier and efficiently.
Pomodoro Technique - Probably one of the most talked about and popular technique -- and for a reason. Study with Me videos helped me get through my first year of high school. Such techniques could be the 45-15 rule, where you study for 45 minutes and take a break for 15 minutes. I usually separate these sessions into 4 parts, so that I retain information more easily.
Feynman Technique - This method is basically as if you were teaching it to a class. Breaking down complicated things into easier, more digestible chunks. It makes you think about what you are learning. This was also developed by Nobel-Peace winning physicist Richard Feynman!

Studyblr intropost!
Hi! Iā€™m Chronicsstudyblr (main Tumblr is @chronicallyinmyownworld ). This is my intro post to the studyblr community :) I am creating this blog to keep myself motivated and organised throughout the school year.
Goals! My goals for these three years areā€¦
To improve my grades and get a better understanding in the subjects I perform badly in
To become the student council president
To learn how to study properly
To develop healthier routines
And other things but they arenā€™t related to this blog
School!
I live in Norway, and follow the Norwegian school system. Iā€™ve just started the 11th grade at a new school, a school which Iā€™ll be attending for the next three years until I graduate and uni-life begins.
I have 9 subjects in school:
- Maths
- Science
- Geography
- Norwegian
- English
- German
- Latin
- Social studies
- Physical education
The subjects I will practice the most are:
- Maths
- Science
- Geography
- Latin
- Written german (Iā€™m half german so I speak the language quite well)
- I will of course also be focusing on my other subjects but the ones above are the subjectsI want to improve in
The blog! - - - - - -
The aesthetic!
Iā€™ve come to realise that a huge part of the studyblr community is aesthetics; everything needs to be aesthetic. But, that clean and organised aesthetic one usually encounters when scrolling through studyblr, is not what I am nor what I want. So the aesthetic of this blog (my blog!) will be more along the lines of:
- Chaotic & dark academia
- Downtown girl
- Hogwarts student
- Deep sea / dark blue
What Iā€™ll post!
I donā€™t know how often Iā€™ll post, hopefully 1-6 times a week depending on how busy I am. (Then again, a studyblr is supposed to show the busy life of a studentā€¦) I am a person who likes to infodump and provide information, so masterposts are probably something Iā€™ll have a lot of. Iā€™ll also probably partly be treating my blog as my notes appā€¦
Some of my content will include:
- Lists of things I do in a day
- How I study
- What I study
- Summary of things Iā€™ve learned in different subjects
- Motivational posts
- What my goals are & how I plan on achieving them
- Tips and tricks
- Studymethods
- How to be productive
- Pictures of my notes and other things
More! - - - - - -
My favourite colour is dark blue, my favourite standalone movie is Coraline, my favourite books are Cinderella Is Dead and The Handmaids Tale, my favourite move franchise is Harry Potter, my favourite sitcom is The Office, my favourite animals are cows (especially highland cows) and jellyfish, my favourite country is Scotland, my favourite biomes are tundra (mountains) and boreal forests, my favourite sports are swimming and archery.
(I will be tracking #chronicsstudies , feel free to tag me etc and letā€™s be mutuals!)
I am so excited to finally join this community!
I wish everyone well <3

mock exams were how long ago sorry what.
okay but where does time go?
this time last year i was preparing for my own mock exams... how has it been a year ???? some updates: i have completed my first very eventful semester of university, my oh my what a learning curve in every aspect of my life but i am lovin it, iā€™m back into studying and netball, finally got my licenseĀ woop woop and have started tutoring peeps.
just a friendly psa to anyone about to sit their mock exams: itā€™s okay if they suck bc guess what most of my grade failed theirs and then by the time externals rolled around, we werenā€™t half bad. donā€™t freak out about cramming for them- external exams are still a very long way away! peep my wall after mocks:
Tumblr media
three main tips:
- revise what you find hardest. if you just revise and spend time doing questions or topics you're good at, that's cool and all but you gotta get to the crunch of it if you really want to improve your performance. plus, it's super satisfying when you have that "aha!" moment. you can and will get there, keep it up.
- it's over-said but pls- take breaks and rest. i was a smidge away from burnout for pretty much all of year twelve and i do not recommend. take time off, lounge, walk, whatever.
- don't overthink your mocks: like i was saying above, srsly i know many people who straight up failed their chemistry mocks and then ended up picking up to a very high 90+ standard by the real thing. use it as a learning tool. prepare, but don't cram. use it as a chance to figure out where you need to dedicate your time.
take care folks.

Hybrid Note Taking Style
A note taking method that blends the best of paper and digital note taking that Iā€™ve been exploring lately. So far itā€™s working really well for me :) Hope it helps!Ā
Hybrid Note Taking Method
Problems with other note taking systems
Each note taking system has its pros and cons. Here are some of the problems I found with (fully) paper and (fully) digital note taking systems.
Paper
Can't use the search function on your notes.
Can't add images and other types of digital files easily.
Difficult to keep overview between notebooks.
Can't share these as easily as digital notes.
Digital
Not as 'romantic'.
Sometimes less engaging.
Lack of physical presence can lead to you forgetting about it.
Can be more difficult to do things like sketching, making schemes, making illustrations etc.
Benefits of Hybrid
I like using hybrid methods because they bring you the best of both worlds.
Easily searchable.
Information in your notes is traceable.
Makes it easier to find and carry out actions e.g. finding extra info.
Doesn't damage books.
Allows you to embed different types of files.
What you'll need
Source material (e.g. book, academic paper)
Any kind of notebook :)
Digital note-taking app ā†’ I like Notion (it's free).
Step 1 - Read & number the material
As you go, use a pencil to lightly put numbers into the margins whenever you deem something worthy of noting down or remembering. This will help you locate the source of specific parts of your notes later.
Step 2 - Write Q&A-style notes
Write the information down in question-and-answer style. Come up with useful questions that link to the material you want to remember (e.g. Q ā†’ What is the main problem with using platform-based planning for new ventures? A ā†’ Assumptions underlying the plan are used as fact rather than best-guess estimates to be tested and questioned). Use the numbers you placed in the margin of the pages to specify the source of the information you used for each answer.
Example ā†’ Chapter 1 page 27 note 3 becomes 1.p27.3
Step 3 - Write actions as you go (Supporting notes)
Supporting notes
Write down your thoughts, anything you're curious about, things you want to look up, things you're confused about, actions you've been inspired to do, etc. For example ā†’ ?m Maybe I can apply this to my visualization assignment? / ! Look up what 'plurality of the future' is / fex Organizational transformation through design. I find this a great way to support and manage the learning process.
Action key
Keep a small action key in which you have an overview of what your action marks mean (e.g. ?mā†’ questions to myself, f ā†’ find, fex ā†’ find example, ?? ā†’ I don't get it, ! ā†’ general actions)
Don't be afraid to customize your actions!
What you'll get
Actionable notes
Your paper notes will contain a structured and easy to read overview of actionable items that came up during the reading. This can be questions you need answered, reminders to find specific information, etc. This will make them a lot harder to forget to do!
Easily traceable sources
With the codes you'll be able to tell easily and quickly where the information you've written in your notes came from.
Searchable & review-ready notes
Notes will be (mostly) made in question-and-answer style. This will allow you to easily review using active recall. All you need to do is cover/hide the answer and you can check how well you truly know the material.
Thanks for reading!

This past weekend I was able to go visit Barbados & Ross University School of Medicine! I got to meet some of my classmates, explore the island, see where weā€™re living & visit the campus! I knew I was excited to start back when I first got accepted, but now that I saw everythingā€”IT BECAME SO REAL! Monday was also the first day of the pre-matriculation course! We had a mini assignment/module on understanding the benefits of scheduling your day, utilizing new study techniques, and taking advantage of the resources that the school has to offer. I also got to see some friends who are a couple semesters ahead of me who were able to give me really good study advice!! I feel so confident & ready to take on the world!!šŸ’ŖšŸ½šŸ’ŖšŸ½šŸ’ŖšŸ½ . . . #student #studentdoctor #medical #medicalstudent #medicalschool #img #barbados #rusm #medicalblogger #blog #blogger #futuredoc #study #studymethods #timemanagement #beach (at Boatyard Barbados) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0mRVSMFFO0/?igshid=12tltdctbg9o3

Can you explain that study method?
Itā€™s nothing special really, I just make notes that are more about being visually attractive and colourful, I use a lot of highlighters. Basically how it works is, I used to study by walking round my room reading my notes out loud and after like two times doing so I was trying to say things by myself, not looking at the paper, trying to use what Iā€™ve remembered. I used to do that in the evening for like an hour max and then Iā€™m the morning for like half an hour to refresh my memory. How it works for me is basically because Iā€™m a kinesthetic lerner, so I study by motion and touch. So for me dealing with that was going around the room, reading out loud, then saying out loud - almost as if I was presenting it to someone. Itā€™s really a personal method and tbh it took me 3xtime doing my notes than actually studying, but then again by writing stuff down youā€™re also already learning them. Plus everyone always loved my notes and wanted to study from them haha.
If you have any more questions about it, Iā€™ll gladly help you ā˜ŗļø

Studying/revising for my (hopefully) last exams.Ā
They're not exactly finals - here in Brazil, you have a certain number of evaluations during the semester, usually from 2 to 5, which can be tests, papers, seminar presentations and similar. If your final grade is lower than 7 (C or lower) by the end of all these evaluations, then you take what we call final: a test to help you improve your final grade. It's not necessarily a part of your evaluation process because you don't have to take it if your first final grade is over 7 (A or B).Ā
This is my last exam week of the semester, but in case I don't get any As or Bs (over 7) I will still have to take some final exams in the last week of the June.
I'm studying biochemistry and anatomy and I don't feel confident at all about it, lol
Studying methods: watching lectures online, self-explanation, active recall,Ā rewriting notes, exercises on Khan Academy.
#prayforme? lol
The beautiful kitty in the video is Sarah, she's perfect and I would die for her.

My study problems and how I solvedĀ them
Iā€™ve always wanted to be like those university students who make beautiful notes and have neat handwriting. But Iā€™m still a freshmen in high school and Iā€™m not given the same martial as university students are.
Therefore, i create my own way. I first gather my study guides and reviews, highlighted the answers to the questions I got wrong and drew them out on a scrap piece a paper.
Ā It might sound confusing but itā€™s really not. It works really well for science and social studies. Math I still have to figure out. But thereā€™s my method!

lil holiday study things
itā€™s kind of early holidays however we donā€™t want to completely forget what weā€™ve learnt however we value mind-off time however this is year twelve howeverĀ physical and mental collapse ainā€™t welcomeĀ please and thank you so here you go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
some baby itty-bitty lil light things to do here and there so holidays arenā€™t advancing you towards that next spicy burn out sesh but also so we donā€™t return to school as useless as the school planner they hand out at the start of the year... if we actually even go back hah... the idea is that these are short and pack a punch:
open your math/bio/chem/phys/whatever textbook to a random chapter and do three random questions - make sure you mark your responses and if you struggle, congrats! you found an area youā€™re a bit rusty on and can revise briefly now or note it down for later. the main thing is- ensure you do something about it some point soonish.
pick a syllabus objective for a subject or a topic in a subject and blurt out everything you know - write, draw, sketch etc. down everything you know, or if youā€™re super lazy, just say it out loud. if itā€™s on paper, check what youā€™ve written and add things youā€™ve missed by looking at notes or a textbook. active recall, peeps.
watch a khan academy vid or a crash course vidĀ - five minutes while lying in bed and then you can go back to that episode of glee whatever. what i like to do with my current glee obsession: between each episode, watch a biology video related to ecology. expose that brain to info again.
set a timer for fifteen minutes and do as much of an assignment as you can, and do it as focused as you canĀ - if you can, stretch it out to a few pomodoro sessions (twenty-five minutes work, five minutes break, repeat) but lately my motivation and concentration has been pretty low so iā€™ll opt for fifteen minutes on my history assignment, and then iā€™ll disappear into the pool for an hour and then hop out and do another fifteen. the key is the bite-sizedness of this method: do this four times a day and thatā€™s an hour of focused assignment work. for holidays, that ainā€™t bad at all...
make a mindmap - pretty easy on the brain and can be fun (pull out the olā€™ coloured pencils). make links between topics (i do this for bio a lot) and summarise main categories/characteristics/points of info. will probably do a whole post on mind maps, i- cannot recommend enough. good study tool when it comes to exam season as you get a nice umbrella view of what you need to cover.
drill through flashcards for eight minutes - donā€™t know why, but eight minutes is the magic number for flashcards. donā€™t have any? quizlet, or time to make some. donā€™t have to be pretty. facetime friends and drill them together.
read through the exemplars for the assessments coming up - if you havenā€™t already, have a squizz at the sample responses for each assessment that have been released by your state currriculum authority. note what you have to do to achieve a high level response, and whatā€™s the difference with a high level and mid or low level response. try to maximise your marks. look at the assignments youā€™re doing right now and see how youā€™re comparing so far. keep doing this throughout the year.Ā
organise your binder/papers/folder/desk/bag/pencil case - not really a proper study thing, but staying on top of your shiz can seriously keep you efficient and improve that academic performance. if youā€™re like me, by the end of the term, your bag and desk are a wild jungle of paper and just- trash. finally got the time to reorganise- so do it.Ā
enjoy the time off pals x
