“What if it does work out exactly how you imagined it or greater. Entertain that thought” - Idil Ahmed It’s easy to fall into sink holes of doubt especially with finals creeping up, but I hope you can remember how intelligent and capable you are to be where you are TODAY! Tell me how you want this year to end, best case scenario, dreams come true situation—SPEAK THOSE THOUGHTS INTO EXISTENCE. 🗣 Also happy beeday month to me + so excited to welcome the happiest time of the year to say good riddance to 2020. As a person who has MANY food allergies, feeding myself is always a challenge, and even more so with the jam-packed 15 hour study days. Grocery shopping is a struggle and its so easy to put that on the back burner when I'm barely making a dent in my to-do list. Green Chef is a meal delivery service that really SAVES YOUR LIFE. @greenchef is the best because I can choose a meal plan that works well for my diet and lifestyle and the best part, everything is fresh and organic! The 2 serving meal plans work perfectly for me and my bestie (we’re so cute 🥺) What really saves me is that everything gets delivered right to my door (which is INCREDIBLE) because every minute counts when you’re 15 lectures behind. And let’s be real, who really wants to leave their house these days. All the recipes also only take around 30 minutes from prep to tummy! Click the link in my bio and use my code “strugsnscrubs80” to get $80 off plus free shipping on your first box. Additional restrictions apply, see GreenChef.com/Terms for more details. #greenchefpartner #mygreenchef https://www.instagram.com/p/CGX5V1BBikD/?igshid=1oflr8l1a710y

Today is World Mental Health Day! Right as I started medical school, I decided to take control of my mental health. With the pressure of school + everything else happening in life, I was NOT okay. I chose to go to therapy, every week, without fail for the past year and I have to say, it’s the best decision I could’ve ever made for myself. If you are struggling and have an inkling that maybe therapy could help you—GO FOR IT. It is life changing. I can’t say that I’m a perfectly put together human being because of it, because that is not the case. But I’ve seen so much growth in myself, my thoughts, and my emotions over the course of this last year! It was always so easy for me to get caught up in thoughts and then just start spiraling in my head with the endless “What if’s” and especially with school being as rigorous as it is, the constant doubting of my ability to do well was weighing me down and holding me back. But being able to work through my thoughts, understand where they come from, and challenge them with a more positive narrative, I am SO MUCH HAPPIER! Some of the things that I say to myself to help me stay grounded when I get caught up in my head: “Let go of what no longer serves you” “It’s okay to not be okay” “It’s OK to ask for help” “You are not alone” This is an ongoing journey, I can’t say that I don’t have my fair share of bad days (or even bad weeks for that matter) but I am better equipped to navigate those parts of life than I ever was before. I hope we can use this day and everyday to be kind to your mind. And for everyone struggling in silence—YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I’m sending everyone a big hug and happy thoughts♥️ #worldmentalhealthday https://www.instagram.com/p/CGLD4JrhmTN/?igshid=1leo3mvgb1xc3

Just finished my first exam of the semester! WOOHOOO. Happy end of exam day :’) Catch me decorating my house for fall (even though it’s literally 100 degrees outside and doesn’t feel anything like fall) and sleeping all weekend! 🎃 🍁 (at Old Town Pasadena) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFSLsdzhoKz/?igshid=1th2p8j5dke9a

BEST EXTERNAL RESOURCES FOR FIRST & SECOND YEAR MED STUDENTS: I wanted to share some external resources that I use in conjunction with normal class lectures that have really saved me! 🧠 Boards & Beyond: it’s the video version of the first aid book. Dr. Ryan’s lectures are short and concise. I especially like these videos if your school uses NBME exams because the information + practice questions are presented in a similar way! 🧠 Dr. Najeeb Lectures: this man spoon feeds you the information you need to know SO WELL. The only downside is that his lectures are REALLY long. I usually watch them on 1.5x speed but I only need to watch them one time to understand the material! 📖 First Aid: textbook version of everything you need to know from your first two years of medical school to do well on step 1! Throughout the semesters, I like to annotate the first aid book and jot down anything that was specified by my professors in the correlating section of the book so when it comes time for dedicated step studying, I have mostly all my information in one place! 📖 ANKI: I love Anki, but ONLY for anatomy or memorization purposes. In the beginning I would ANKI everything and not only did it not help me, it hurt me. I now use other resources to understand conceptual material, but anything that just needs to be straight memorized, ANKI is the way to go! Other options that I don’t use (yet) but my classmates use and love: AMBOSS, Osmosis, BRS, Becker, Lipincott, USMLE Rx, Sketchy, Pathoma, etc. Seeing all these resources can get overwhelming and especially when you’re first starting medical school and everyone is throwing these textbook names and video services at you. Choose to stick to 1-3 resources so you don’t spread yourself too thin!! Most of these services offer free trials, test them out and see what fits your learning style best! Also yes I AM ALIVE AND I AM BACK! Pardon my lack of internet presence as I try to navigate life + school + COVID + the state of California being on fire. Happy studying ♥️ (at California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFAVPTFhdCq/?igshid=u2jgvizl34ls
