How to study for long hours/
I find it easier to study with the pomodoro method, where you focus for 25 minutes at least and then take a break.
However during exam preparation or whenever we have situations where there’s a lot of portions to cover, focusing is really hard. We often get distracted by our phones and devices as well as social media.
So I introduce my favourite life changing app!
Tumblr media
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this app, it’s available on both android and iOS.
It basically has a feature where you can choose the apps you want for studying and the rest of the apps are blocked.
It also has a study log where it basically tracks how long you study for a subject.
It allows me to use the apps that I WANT for studying as well as block social media. It reduces my screen time and distractions immensely and I’m able to focus much better !
(Ps- this is not sponsored)
I hope this helps!
Love,
Mith <3

How to Study
This is my first post so I decided to give you some scientifically proven study tips.
1. Preparation
a. Create a study schedule or timetable so as to spread your study and allocate specific hours to study and revise every week. For example, if you plan on studying 14 hours that would be two hours of study every day which can add up quickly as time goes on.
b. Have a clutter-free and noise-free environment, this will help in concentration and also help in eliminating distractions.
c. Gather your materials for studying like pencils and ruler, always ensure they are within reach.
d. Have a good night sleep, exercise and eat healthy.
2. Studying.
a. SQ3R: this is an effective way of studying your textbook and other materials. This stands for
Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review.
Survey: skim through your textbook to prepare yourself for what you are studying, you should not spend more that ten minutes on this step. This should just be more or less like a glance.
Question: the most effective way of studying is formulating questions or answering the end of chapter question. Rather than making notes, form question either written or typed. This could also be used as a review document few days to your exam.
Read: this is the most important, you actually go over the textbook again but with an attempt to memorize. Try to look for all the answers to the questions.
Recite: this is recalling from memory tht you just read. This is where your brains start making connections.
Review: this can be done in two ways.
i. Immediately after studying: this is to see what was missing in the course of studying.
ii. After a period of time to see how much you can still remember.
b. Similar to (a) is PQ4R and it stands for Preview, Question,Read, Recite,Review, Repeat.
c. THIEVES. This stands for Title, Heading, Introduction, Every paragraph, Vocabulary, End of chapter question and Summary.
d. Spaced repetition. This is spacing out your study across a period of time.To try this technique, review your material in spaced intervals similar to the schedule below:
Day 1: Learn the material in class.
Day 2: Revisit and review.
Day 3: Revisit and review.
After one week: Revisit and review.
After two weeks: Revisit and review
e. Interleaved practice.(This would be on my next post.)
f. Feynman Technique.
The Feynman Technique is an efficient method of learning a concept quickly by explaining it in plain and simple terms. It’s based on the idea, “If you want to understand something well, try to explain it simply.”
g. Mindmaping.
Mind you this is not mindmaping from your study guide but from your brain. Try writing every branch in different colours.
3. Memorization
a. Leitner system.
The Leitner System is a learning technique based on flashcards. This can be practiced using five boxes or less as the case may be.
Every day — Box 1
Every two days — Box 2
Every four days — Box 3
Every nine days — Box 4
Every 14 days — Box 5.
4. Review
a. Quiz
b. Practice test.
This post is just a guide feel free to add yours or leave out any of the tips that doesn't work for you. Everyone is different.
Kindly encourage me by following.

Stages during studying:
1. Confusion
💡This actually isn’t a bad thing at all. It is a sign that your brain has started to search for a solution. But, at this stage most of us are prone to quit, because this is a moment when our will to learn and our resistence to focus - are in the battle. So, just to know that if you pass this first step, the rest will go much more smoothly.
2. Understanding
💡This is a part when your brain just clicks and starts to connect why? & how? something is as it is. If you need more time to get a grasp on what is going on in your book, usually that means you are not fully concentrated. Go for a walk and then try again with some fresh eyes.
3. Deeper understanding
💡After gaining some basic understanding about what is going on, you will go even deeper. You will start to visualize, to make metaphors, mix new information with some old one’s. It is just like a feeling of Aha moment...
4. You being your own teacher
💡Start to interogate yourself. Maybe to ask Qs about that particular subject, but in some unusual way, like asking How can you be sure that is true? , Which examples you can name im which this has been useful?, Why this even exists?,etc...
5. Repeation, repeation...
💡Print those old tests, find some online question bank, ask your friend to revise together,... Go through the most important notes a day before your test. Good luck 🌼

Trying to study early for a change <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I have literally never done this before, excuse me pls)
I'm not the kind of person who wakes up at the ass crack if dawn to do yoga and then have a healthy breakfast and them study diligently; but I do stay up late and study. Because studying late night gives you this different kind of vibe, you know?? Late at night, no one's awake in the house except for you and you've got your snacks and music- it's the sort if vibe that makes you want to study.
And I really, really thought that that was enough. But no, it didn't work lmao. Recently, I find it hard to stay up. That's why I decided to try studying early morning instead. Sort of random but hey, if you can't stay up, might as well wake up earlier.
(Notice how I say earlier because I still don't wake up early).
And I was amazed at how much I was able to get done! I've been putting off stuff for w e e k s, and even though I couldn't get it all done, I'm making progress. I admit, I still prefer night time study sessions, but I don't mind alternating them for a few early mornings.
So if any other night owl (who finds it hard to study for a while; like me) is reading this, hello! And it's ok to not achieve your daily study goal once in a while. If you find it difficult to study at night because you're sleepy or you want to do something else, I would suggest switching it up!! Try it! Don't be worried because you can't wake up early- the point is that you study after you wake up.
Oh and if any of y'all like music, I've got a playlist that you might wanna check out. It's got lofi, piano covers (??), and a bit of other random stuff. Point is, something new might help ;)
(It's a youtube playlist because DON'T ASK. I hate spotify.)
Stay safe :)

Revision Notes My first step to studying history is making revision notes that summarize the material I’m learning. I aim to write around one point per paragraph but I rarely do that :’) Realistically, I write around 4-5 points. (whoops!) One trick I use to make myself truly distill the material is by pretending the bullet point I’m making is going to go on a flashcard. (Which it is anyway!) This way, I remember that I don’t want to distill the information again for the flashcards part.
Flashcards This is actually a recent thing I started to do when studying for history. On one side of the flashcard, I would write the paragraph title or the general gist of what the content is about. On the other side, I have the bullet point(s) from my notes summarized even further. After creating the flashcards, I practice retrieval from both sides. If I’m using physical flashcards, my process for reviewing is the same as the learn mode on Quizlet. The learn mode is simply get it right twice. It’s quick, easy, and I learn a lot. When using digital flashcards, my favourite site to use is Quizlet. I use different modes depending on how much time I want to spend studying and the depth of the material. Flashcards are extremely helpful for remembering the dates of key events, main ideas, or key people.
Mind map For the longest time ever I didn’t understand the point of mind maps. They were just too confusing?? I decided that I would try to make a mind map for the history topics. The topics were just too confusing and a mind map helped me see where they connected. I also used my mind map as a guide for my ‘blurts’. You can see one of my mind maps here.
Blurts Blurts are when I see a topic name/paragraph title and I blurt out everything I know about the topic. Blurts can really help you see the gaps in your knowledge.
Timelines This is self-explanatory when it comes to history. There’s just so many random dates and having it in chronological order is really helpful.
This is just my way of studying for history. Of course, it’s best to experiment with what works best for you when studying if you can. You can see I experimented a bit by trying out flashcards and mind maps. The end result: a more effective way to study for me!
