📚 Elevate Your Writing: Swap Out -ing Words for Specificity ✨
A little trick for polishing your manuscript that might help! Do a search for words with the -ing suffix, and replace them with more specific verbs.
Running? Consider “sprinting” or “jogging.” Talking? Try “chatting” or “murmuring.” Looking? Maybe you mean “glancing” or “staring.”
Even something like “thinking” can be swapped for “pondering” or “reflecting”—what exactly is your character doing?
We often see -ing words and feel there’s a stronger verb waiting to be used.

Unpopular Opinion
Drinking does not make you any less exciting to be around. In fact, the constant need to be drunk to have fun makes you less exciting.

Hi Megan! Hope you’re coping well with school :) I’m in uni too but I always struggle keeping up with all the readings I have and I was wondering how do you make notes with your readings?
hello!! to be honest i don't usually make notes. i know people always say notes are so important but most weeks i just don't have the time. i only make notes if the reading is very important or very long. i use onenote for all my lecture notes, so i just insert a section at the bottom of the corresponding lecture's page for my reading notes.
first i summarise the reading and my opinions on it briefly in bullet points, then i'll draw links between it and the subject content (either the lecture or another reading for that week). that's about all i do, and even then i don't do it very often.

In response to a friend upset by their stepdad walking back out of their lives.....
Seriously, fuck anyone that wants to claim 'but I love you cause we family' when they don't back that shit up. Especially if they are your own parents. My stepdad is just now coming back into my life and been caring for me in my transition to Oregon. But before then, he kept his distance due to my major issues with my mother. He always worked his ass off for his family but looking back on childhood, he was rarely ever home. My mother was and yet I have zero memories of her actually spending time with her children; However I have memories of her preoccupying her time on her political work that rarely, if ever brought money into the household. It did pay off for her in the end, but severely damaged our relationship then and into the future. The sad thing is, I would cry out to her often back then and she'd always blow me off; 'oh ok sweetie, after I finish this up.' and then never did or took her all day and forgot OR '//sigh I cant sweetie I'm finishing up this proposal' and then never again come back later to do something. This behavior only became apparent after my grandmother passed away when I was 13. And I would tell her time and time again how I felt and she did absolutely nothing to help it. The very few and rare time she did, it would be in the form of a 'movie date' or anything that involved 'distant bonding' activities. Only time I'd feel close to her was on family vacations.... People need to understand that even as children, someone's behavior towards someone else can and does stick and there isn't any amount of denial one could make in the world to try and scapegoat out of it. And as parents, they hold a higher responsibility to that because it is there actions that mold and shape us into who we are today, for better and for worse. I'm so sorry your dealing with this and I understand how it feels to not be cared for above the stigma of 'buying your love'. I have since distanced myself from my mother and only reach out if I absolutely need to or get concerned over something she is in relation too. He doesn't deserve your attentive care, so don't give it too him.

Organizational Systems for School
Tumblr media
Hey guys!!!!! It’s me!!! I’m finally right back at you all with an all new organizational advice post that will make organizing for school a blast! I’m so sorry for not posting an advice post in a while! I’ve just been extremely busy trying to balance schoolwork, my new leadership position, volunteer hours, extra curriculars, and etc! I hope that you all can understand! I’ll try to post more advice post for often, but I can’t guarantee anything! I you have any questions or would like to talk to me, please visit my ask box! Anyway, if you guys don’t already know, I am doing the 100 Days of Productivity Challenge! If you would to see what I’m up to in that challenge, click here! Thank You all so much for the support, and I hope that this advice post was somewhat helpful! As always, I believe that you all can do it and I wish you all the greatest of luck this school year!
-Ben :)
Binders
Binders are probably one of the most common organizational systems here in the US! I’m not sure about other parts of the world, so if binders aren’t the most common organizational system where you live, then please share by replying to this post!  Binders can be really organized as you can just flip through them, but the downside is that they can get very bulky, you have to hole punch your papers, and tons of students tend to stuff everything in the front pocket just to name a few! Anyhow, binders are a solid option for most!
Pros:
+Can be organized
+You can flip through and find papers easily
+You can hold lots of papers and even a pencil pouch!
+Many types and sizes to choose from!
Cons:
-Bulky
-Need a hole puncher/hole punched papers
-Students tend to “stuff everything” in that front plastic pocket of the binder
-The closing and opening rings thing can be annoying sometimes
-Holes from punching tend to rip on papers
Folders
Another common way of organizing is using folders! I know that a lot of people use these in addition to using binder!  They are really effective, efficient, compact, and organized too! However, all lot of people tend to shove random papers in folders and they can hold that many papers for a class that has TONS of handouts!
Pros:
+Light/Compact
+Can separate classes into 2 sections
+Plastic ones tend to be super durable
+Don’t have to hole punch
Cons:
-Paper folders tear easily
-People still tend to get lazy and shove random papers in them
-Limited paper capacity
-You have to “search” the folder and can’t just flip like a binder
Expanding File Folders
You’ve probably seen these all around Tumblr! They go by many names, such as accordion files, expanding files, and much more! They are pretty uncommon, but are actually really organized, and in my opinion kind of is like a combination of a binder and folder (since there are sections like binder dividers and you just put the papers in with no rings). The really only downside is that it’s hard to find papers in it and it can can very bulky overtime! I know that Sareena from  @studyign and Jasmine from @studyquill use these and love them!
Pros:
+Pretty durable
+Light/compact
+Expands and holds tons of papers
+Don’t have to hole punch
+Usually comes with labels for the tab sections
+Has different sections
Cons:
+Limited sections
+Can get bulky if you put too many papers in it
+Harder to find papers
“Hybrid Systems”
I don’t know if this actually counts as an “organizational system”, but I will include it anyway! A hybrid system is what I actually use! It’s basically is using different organizational systems together and tailoring each to your own needs! For example, I use one big binder, folders for each class, notebooks for each class, and lastly an expanding file folder to store old work! You can learn more about how I organize in my How I Stay Organized Post (although my system has changed just a pinch since the making of that post)!
Pros:
+Customizable
+Can make your own system that fit your needs
+Takes the good parts of each system and mashes it into a MEGA AWESOME SYSTEM!
+Can be super organized
+Allows you to adapt to each class for the best organizational results
Cons:
-Can be hard to maintain
-Things can get lost between all the storage devices you choose to use
-Might have to invest in a lot of stuff
Anyway, I hope that this post help you out some how! If you have any questions, but don’t be shy and stop by my ask box (I will try to answer questions when convenient!)! Is there something in Google to use instead of Microsoft one note (is that I haven't installed it in my laptop heh ) :)
hi! Google Keep is somewhat similar to OneNote but with less features, so you could try that! or if you're just looking for notetaking platforms in general i've heard plenty of good things about evernote ⭐

Great advice for those of us who struggle with anxiety.
Anxiety isn’t cute.
I wish I knew how to explain to people that anxiety isn’t something that you want. It’s not something you just wake up one day and decide to have. It’s not romantic and it’s not cute. It’s fucking scary and it’s absolute, unending, crushing instability that you wish you could rip from yourself. I don’t know where people got this insane idea that anxiety is this cute little quirk that makes them more desirable to the opposite sex, but if you really want to have it that badly, take mine. I could do without it for a while. People with real anxiety issues don’t tell anyone about the crushing weight that settles on them because they don’t want to seem as if they are one of those people who tries to romanticize the idea of a mental disorder like it’s something that we can fix with a kiss on the forehead and a boyfriend’s hoodie. I would rather pour acid on myself than have people see the panic attacks like the one I had tonight at work. At least then I could scream like I want to and people wouldn’t question it or act like I was crazy. If you have even an inkling that anxiety is some romantic, adorable thing, I want you to imagine this for a moment: Imagine you are standing in the middle of your work day, doing something as meaningless as sorting clothing. You’re working alone. No one is bothering you, no one is near you. It’s something you do every single day and there is nothing different happening. Suddenly and without warning or reason, the room starts to spin. Your chest gets tight, you feel like you can’t breathe. and your whole body starts to shake. You feel like you’re losing your grip on reality. You can’t calm down and you can’t bring yourself back from the edge. There’s no reason for it. Nothing happened. Nothing. You were thinking about something completely trivial - Christmas and your family holiday. You rush to the restroom, trying to make sure your face doesn’t betray even half of what you are feeling. And in the restroom, you huff and puff and lean against the wall and try with all your might to calm down and stop sweating and stop panicking over absolutely nothing. You try for what feels like hours but is something more like five minutes. And then even though the only thing you’ve succeeded in doing is straightening your clothes and making the room stop spinning, you have to go back to your work, even with a heavy chest and ringing in your ears, because if you stay gone too long, someone will know you’re crazy or think you’re wasting time. Do you really want this? Do you really want this to be your reality every day? Because this is what I go through. This was my night at work. This is what people with real and lasting anxiety issues go through every single day of their lives. You can try to romanticize something as hellish as someone’s every day demise. You can try to make yourself seem adorable by acting awkward and shy when you really aren’t. But for God’s sake don’t wish for something that real people everywhere would set themselves on fire to get rid of every single day. Don’t ask to have something that envelopes people in complete nothingness for hours, days, weeks on end, something that takes years of medication and therapy and conditioning just to control. And if you do suffer from this hellish misery, please know that you aren’t alone and there are others who struggle with this every day. You aren’t crazy. You aren’t a baby. It’s real and it’s there. I am sorry you are dealing with this plight. You are stronger than this and you will make it through. I promise.

Get a planner or some other time management device (that works for you)
This is a crucial step in starting to manage your time and daily life! Getting a planner or even a to-do list notepad can actually really help you in the long run in terms of time management! It may not seem like a lot, but trust me when I say that it will save your life! The reason a planner, bullet journal, or any other time management tool (that works for you) is so important is that it allows your to list your goals and tasks for the day and even allows you to keep track of important dates, such as test dates or even project due dates. But, make sure to find a system that works for you! I know that the aesthetic of the community and even the Bullet Journal is so tempting to want to have, but what is really important is the functionality of the system. If you are spending more time making whatever you’re using “pretty” rather than actually using it and getting things done, then you are just defeating the whole purpose of time management.
If you spend more time decorating or setting up your system rather than actually being productive or using the system, then try something else
I said this a little briefly above, but if you are spending more time making your planner or whatever pretty that actually using it then you should find a different system. The whole point of time management is to allow you to manage and track your time, while allowing you to easily find the tasks you need to do for the day. I know, I know that the community can make it seem like you have to bullet journal or even use a planner, but you don’t. What I’m saying is that the “prettiness” of the thing you’re using doesn’t matter, only if it actually works.
If you know about future dates (tests, due dates, etc.), write them down ASAP
This is a super important tip that I would highly recommend you all using! It has helped me so much, and I wished I knew this sooner! If you have any important dates, please just WRITE THEM DOWN!!! It will help you plan out your free time, and can let you know of an upcoming test or whatever. Guys, we’re human beings, and humans have the tendency to think we will remember every little thing when we actually will forget every little thing. Just trust me on this one, and write those dates down somewhere! It will prevent stress, or even cramming for something you were not prepared for/expecting!
Do your assignments ASAP or the day they are assigned. Don’t do them the night before they’re due or the day they’re due!
This tip kind of ties into procrastination, but please just do it now. I know how tempting it feels to procrastinate guys, but please we all know how bad it ends every single time. Just do your homework or whatever ASAP. This has so many benefits including going to bed early, reducing stress, prevents you being unprepared, last minute rushing, and/or even giving you even more free time! Just get it over with now, and I promise you that it’s better now than better later. YOU CAN DO IT!!! GET OFF TUMBLR, NETFLIX, INSTAGRAM, OR WHATEVER NOW AND LET’S ALL DO SOME PRODUCTIVE WORK!!!
Thank You for all the support guys! Please stayed tuned for the next advice post! Have an amazing school year and I know that you all are capable of doing the “impossible”! Bye guys!!!!!
