Death of Pirouz
Not-So-Fun Fact, given the context of this story: Pirouz (پیروز) is Persian for "victor" (or "victorious," depending on how it's used in a sentence).
Pirouz (the sweet little baby pictured above) was the last surviving Asiatic cheetah cub born in captivity in Iran, and he passed away on Tuesday due to kidney failure. Besides the fact that he [obviously] was a precious baby, everyone is angry and heartbroken by his passing, because he had become a symbol for the revolution. Shervin Hajipour had even alluded to him and the delicate nature of his existence in his GRAMMY-winning song "Baraye."
This reflects another dimension of the pain and suffering caused by the regime. With their blatant disregard for environmental issues and tendency to suppress environmental activists, it is not much of a surprise that this tragedy also took place. (And this isn't even taking into account the suspicions that they had a hand in his death.) While there is still a great deal that remains unknown, considering that one of his siblings also had died due to health complications, it's probable that he and his siblings were not bred in the best conditions. Furthermore, it's highly likely that limitations in resources prevented them from receiving the care that they needed, despite their caretakers' best efforts.
As for Pirouz himself, I'm absolutely heartbroken, and I cannot stop crying right now. Sadly, he is another victim of the regime. I just hope that his last moments weren't painful. From the perspective of the revolution, I hope that his death does not signify the death of potential victory for the revolution, considering the meaning of his name and his status as a symbol.
Now, let's fight for Pirouz in both senses of the word as used in this post: The poor baby himself and the pirouzi (پیروزی) (i.e., 'victory') of the revolution.

EDIT: I've now made a post that you can read here with more information about the ICJ rulings, their powers and what we can do with this ruling here. I had to this morning and will continue to delete, report, and block all comments/asks that are anti-Arab, zionist, Islamophobic, racist, and/or antisemitic.
We already knew this but the ICJ has now ruled that Israel's continued occupation of Palestine is illegal and needs to end ASAP.
They found that Israel's occupation does not give it the right of sovereignty over the West Bank and Gaza and that it is not a temporary occupation but is an illegal, permanent and discriminatory annexation. The ICJ also found violence against Palestinians, Israeli exploitation of Palestinian natural resources, transfer of civilian population (settlers and companies/organisations), extension of Israeli laws to replace local Palestinian laws, forced displacement of Palestinians, confiscation of Palestinian land, annexation. That Israel's 'security concerns' are not valid justifications for any of these measures.
The ICJ has ordered Israel to end its presence in the West Bank and Gaza immediately and to cease all new settlement activity, return all lands and assets to Palestinians that they've ceased since 1967 and that includes archives and items of cultural significance, evacuate all of their settlers from the settlements, pay compensation, and repeal all laws that maintain this occupation and discrimination. The ICJ is not legally-binding but does carry significant political weight and this ruling is important for continuing to advocate for Palestine and to put pressure on our government's to do the right thing and for them to put pressure on Israel. Keep contacting your representatives!

Adding to these thoughts, when you view statistics from a historical stance, you're faced with the same issue. It's hard to identify how many Natives have been incarcerated going back further than the late '90s because that was not a racial choice for prisoners. The choices for most states were just Black and white. A "progressive" state might have Black, Latino, and white as options. Natives were often just listed as "white" or "Latino" if they weren't mixed enough to appear Black. Asians & Middle Easterns were similarly not available options. Police statistics are listed the same way. Natives are often lumped into racial groups that they are not a part of. This makes it very difficult to show how violent crime intersects & affects the "invisible" racial groups. When people go to prove that activism & advocacy needs to be done intersectionally, this is a large part of the power that the other side has. We cannot prove the need because most of the statistics we can pull from are smaller surveys done outside of regular channels, meaning that those statistics can vary wildly as well as being far more limited in scope & availability. How can we prove the needs that we know are there without reliable data? How do we deal with sealions who are demanding data that we don't have because the system itself doesn't compile it? Even less violent things than police brutality and sexual assaults, how do you show basic things how many Natives are trans when there's not options for either Native or transgender on forms? (Note: I am aware that the system is racist and that the sealions wouldn't listen even if the data could be shown. These are examples.)
Here is why hyperinvisibility is just as bad as hypervisbility for a marginalized group:
There are no solid statistics on things like incarceration rates, abuse, suicide and death, sexual assault, sex work, etc. that focus on trans men because if you cull from regular statistics it's skewed towards misgendering trans men as women due to a lack of comprehensive gender vs sex choices, regular ole transphobia, and of course the need to cover up "controversial" life choices by parents the dead trans person left behind.
We have stats on trans women. Are they perfect? Not at all. But we have stats and they're growing more accurate, just as they are for men who are victims. This does mean too that statistics are becoming more accurate for trans men as well, but this is still mostly from self-reported data to smaller surveys, which automatically nets a smaller pool than being able to trawl through public records.
I think about this a lot through like male sexual assault statistics and how when I was young the average number of male victims was like 1 in 10 or something while women was 1 in 3 or 2 by the time they're 18. Now looking at statistics, while women have basically remained the same, men have jumped up to 1 in 3 (nb: this is specifically about sexual assault, not completed rape).
But even RAINN is getting its stats from public record. And it's just not something that is viable for getting reliable data about trans male victims.
Anyway, those are my thoughts for the day.

May 2nd 2023:Opinion on a social justice issue
Animal testing is not necessary because alternate testing methods now exist that can replace the need for animals and numerous medical breakthroughs have been made without the use of animal testing. The first problem in this is that we share barely half of our DNAs with animals used for testing. We only share 69% of our DNA with rats. Rabbits of the Lagomorpha order are our closest phylogenetic relative. They have greater acceptability as a laboratory experiment than primates. The second problem is that most alternatives to animal testing are overlooked. Scientists could’ve chosen to use a cheaper and far more effective way of testing, but they choose to stick to animals. By doing this, we are exposing animals to things that can ruin their lives, not to mention ripping them away from their family and natural habitat. There are multiple alternatives to animal testing. For example, scientists can now test vaccines on human volunteers and cosmetics/skin care products on human cell clones. Even though animal testing is proven to be barbaric, 89% of the scientists surveyed by the Pew Research Center were in favor of animal testing for scientific research.

If you want to fight tyranny, you need to get comfortable with the idea of breaking the law. You'll never make meaningful change within an inherently oppressive system bent on your eradication and/or subjugation.

So apparently some Swiss company found out that Brazilian blood has more immunoglobulin (which is used in some medications made by pharma companies) than European blood, and now international pharma companies are lobbying to change Brazilian law to allow them to use our blood as a resource
There is no current evidence that those things are related, but it just so happens that at the same time there is also another law being discussed that would get rid of "bureaucracy" when it comes to ethics analyses of trials on humans. It would also remove the right, which all brazilians currently have, to access to the medication resulting from the trials they participated in
Both sources are in Portuguese because both news have been recently broke by a Brazilian investigative news agency, but if you don't speak it, you can always use automatic translation
I know there's a lot of fucked up shit happening in the world right now, but please pay attention to medical rights in Brasil right now. Especially if you're European, because virtually every company related to this is from your continent and plans to benefit you above all
ETA: using blood as a resource for these medications is not new; however, current law in brasil only allows that use to come from donated blood (because it comes from the plasma and apparently not all of it is used in blood transfusion; I'm not a doctor so I'm not clear on the details but that's the gist of it) and to be processed and used by Hemobrás, the State-owned company that handles this type of medical technology. The new law would allow for private companies to buy our blood from blood banks for their use. It is worth noting that at least one company has already explicitly stated that they won't be making the resulting medication available in the Brazilian market, so, essentially, they will be taking blood Brazilians donated to help other Brazilians and using it to treat immunocompromised Europeans, to the detriment of immunocompromised Brazilians that need the medicine. In the process, they will be making it harder for our State-owned company to use that same blood, forcing us to import from them and therefore making the medication more expensive. They also want to make it possible for Brazilians to sell their own blood - a deeply ethically questionable practice that is discouraged by the WHO and that has led to HIV outbreaks in Brasil in the past

THE TREATY PRINCIPLES BILL IS BEING PRESENTED TO THE HOUSE TOMORROW!!!!!!!
EDIT: Here's a link with more info on the Bill and it's contents and breaches!
This matters to EVERYONE in our country! If you're Māori this is about our LITERAL existence, if you're Pākehā, tauiwi, tangata Tiriti this concerns you because Tiriti is what gives you the privilege of existing on this whenua! The Waitangi Tribunal has already said this Bill will be the biggest Waitangi breach ever. YOU have a responsibility to do something.
ACT, our coalition government, and the Ministry of Justice have been intentionally keeping this bill under the wraps. Mad mihi to the MoJ analyst who leaked that draft though (I'm sure they got sacked if not massive repercussions).
What we know so far is that Te Pāti Māori, Green Party, and Labour WILL NOT be voting for this and that ACT, NZ First, and National WILL be voting for this tomorrow. NZ First and National have said that they WILL NOT support this Bill after its first reading so it will go to Select Committee and then die at first reading.
National and NZ First have said they'll only support this Bill to first reading (thankfully) but there is always the chance of closed door promises & favours and we still need to advocate for this disgusting bill to die.
I'll post more about submissions when they open for Select Committee but I'm happy to help answer questions or help with that and the process.
But the racist idiots to email and drill in that you DO NOT want this Bill are...
ACT MPs
1. David Seymour (Email: [email protected] ) (the one bigoted brain cell behind this bill)
2. Brooke Van Velden ([email protected])
3. Nicole McKee ([email protected])
4. Todd Stephenson ([email protected])
5. Andrew Hoggard ([email protected])
6. Karen Chhour ([email protected])
7. Mark Cameron ([email protected])
8. Simon Court ([email protected])
9. Parmjeet Parmat ([email protected])
10. Laura Trask ([email protected])
11. Cameron Luxton ([email protected])
AND
- Prime Minister Christopher Luxon ([email protected])
- Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters ([email protected])
If you're able to participate with any part of the hīkoi please do and please be safe!!!!

If you see a post that says that Israel is getting away with genocide because it's Jewish, or because Jews are given some sort of special privilege in society due to the holocaust, or because of the position of "privilege" the west gives to Jews, or because our society is "too sensitive" to antisemitism: RUN! Those takes are not coming from a good place.
Zionism is supported by the west despite it being Jewish, not because of it. It's supported due to propping up foreign interests in the region and justifies American imperialism in West Asia. For some it's supported due to the desire to bring about Christian apocalypse.
If someone treats Zionism as being propped up because of some sort of Jewish power in the west they are promoting antisemitism, weather knowingly or unknowingly.
