one true fact about me is that i never buy clothes i just trust that they will find their way to me and they always do. every single time i think well i might not have enough clothes somebody hands me a box of them and it all works out. it might be a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy because everyone around who acquires clothing items in large quantities around me goes "well i know someone around this size who absolutely would take these off my hands without asking any questions" but it works.
i have been living like this for years. its a bit macabre but many of the wardrobes belong to dead family members which gives me an air of distinguishness despite my lack of initiative which i think is great! the only downside is that when someone compliments my outfit i have to go "thanks someone's grandfather died and they didn't know what to do with his clothes so i stole his drip" which is far more jarring than saying second-hand store even though it's the same thing! i just cut out the middle man

The Preserved Words of God
“If you choose not to believe that God preserved His Word without error over these years, then He lied. If He lied, He is not God, because God cannot lie (Titus 1:2). If He is not God, then why would you even study His book in the first place, as it would be no better than the millions of books that men have written?” Eric & Lonna Neumann, Bible Per-VERSIONS, p.5

I think the thing that shocks me the most about the discourse, if you can even call it that, around book Alicent vs show Alicent, is the idea that people think book Alicent had full autonomy over all her choices and she wasn’t a “victim” like show Alicent.
Now first, I put victim in quotations bc the way people who do not like her have almost bastardized that word. Alicent is a victim, and those things (rape, abuse, neglect) were done to her. That says everything about the men who did that do her and nothing about her. But people are hellbent on throwing Alicent, a woman in a violently patriarchal environment, being victimized back at people as if it is moral flaw of hers. Which is just terribly ironic bc the same folks who say Alicent “did it to herself” or “deserves what she is getting” also seem to think the crux of the story isn’t about generational trauma catching up with itself, how far people will go for power, or even how all girls and women are harmed - albeit to different degrees. But more the fact that Rhaenyra is the only woman to be harmed - and the only harm done is not getting the throne easily. Those same people wouldn’t be caught dead admitting that Rhaenyra is also a victim in the way they shit on Alicent for being. From the father who sets her up fail, to the baby daddy that’s been eyeing her since she was barely 18, to the uncle that grooms her. It takes away from the fantasy projected onto Rhaenyra if she too is surrounded by men that use her and she never escapes that.
Second, it’s funny how F&B gets heralded by some as this exploration of how history is skewed depending on who is telling it. But people can’t read between the lines (you honestly don’t even have to do that much work) with book Alicent. Showing 14 year old Alicent being preyed on, 16 year old Alicent being pregnant with her second child, and 18 year old Alicent being raped is somehow the show needlessly making Alicent a victim. But reading about a 13 year old bathing, dressing, and taking care of a king who mistakes her for the daughter he abused and neglected, and then that same girl, at 18, marrying another king that killed his previous child bride is just girl bossism on book Alicent’s part?
People hate conceptualizing the idea that (even book) Alicent is caught in patriarchal trappings bc to some that takes away from Rhaenyra’s plight…. Bc they can’t wrap their heads around several women *gasp* all going through hardships, and that ultimately people will respond to trauma differently depending on tools/knowledge they have at their disposal. Alicent neither being gleefully evil nor picking herself up by her bootstraps to somehow end years of patriarchal violence is not the neat box they want for her.

merlin owns an arthurian museum with authentic items from the third/fourth century as well as statues, busts, and portraits from different artists over the years of king arthur (and the others). who better to ensure everything is real rather than someone who was there? eventually, people are pushing for him to find more artifacts bc its been a few years and bc history nerds are bloodthirsty beasts. people also want to find excalibur but whatever. merlin caves and is like “might as well see what else fell into lake avalon” so they dredge it up. merlin is relaxing at home when he gets a call. he’s expecting them to say they found something small like perhaps a link or armor or a rare, old jewel. then he hears

something something, the symbolism of how Stan and Ford were only able to see eye to eye when they were wearing one another’s clothes.
something about Ford in Stanley’s clothes, staring at his mirror image in his, and finally seeing Stan for who he has always been— a hero. who saved his family with his bare hands simply because of how much he loved them. a hero who has been protecting that family since he was a child and hasn’t ever stopped. Something about it finally clicking to Ford in that moment.

Left this abandoned in the drafts (which is a bit ironic) but it's a spin on this post, where instead of Apollo just being locked in some room on Olympus somewhere, he's bound to the ruins of an abandoned Ancient Greek city. Maybe somewhere near Delphi, maybe Troy, idk.

we give garp a lot of (rightly deserved) shit but unironically like 90% of the criticisms towards him i see not only ignore the wider worldbuilding context of one piece but also don't acknowledge how sengoku is like the worst friend ever

I like to think that Himring has some elf magic on it, or at least prime Noldor construction that allows it to keep standing
Imagine if it did keep standing well into the third age? That you could look across the sea and see the little island with that strange elven fortress on it? Many Men, Elves, and Dwarves alike have sailed to its shores and tried to open its gates, but just like the Doors of Durin, they're sealed shut. Nothing anyone does can open them, and there is no way in either. The walls are unscalable, no grapples will ever find anything to catch onto, and ladders will sway and fall under the strong sea winds. Tunneling under the walls gets one no where either, for if they dig deep they either keep meeting rock, or find water.
This is Himring, the fortress built with the desire to withstand anything a Vala could throw at it, outlast any siege. It was constructed with powerful intent, to be the strong hold and last safety net an eldest brother could use to protect his siblings. Imagine the power a frantic, paranoid, still healing from his torture Maedhros would pour into a place with the mindset of Safety?? Of Protection?? Maedhros would have rituals where every dawn he would walk upon its battlements and talk to himself, talk to Himring, of nothing important, nothing that could be valuable to overhear, but nonetheless the intent of using it for safeguarding, of protection, and providing safety. A ritual of that for over a couple hundred years? Maedhros burns bright with the white flame of life and hes pouring all of that into his fortress. There is a reason Himring is the only thing to survive of Beleriand, it has it's Lord's Will within their foundations.
As far as Himring is concerned, it's still waiting for its Lord to return. It survived the devastation of the War of Wrath that turned the mountains around it to rubble. Its holding against this siege of water surrounding its gates. It will keep holding until its Lord returns, whenever that may be.
