Of course they think Rhaenyra getting a little boo boo is the worst thing to happen in HotD rather than Aemond losing a fricking eye. She’s an actual victim whilst he’s a villain who needs to get over himself.
This is how Geeta Patel describes Alicent’s sons in an interview with the LA Times, declaring that they “have become monsters”.
She robbed Aemond of his humanity, brushing him off as another evil man so who cares if he’s been left horrifically mutilated, that’s what he gets for saying such terrible things about Rhaenyra’s precious babies.
Truly they want me to think that Aegon, Aemond, and Daeron are monsters when we have miss Rhaenyra over here having hundreds of innocents die just so she can have another dragon on her arsenal.
Like yeah was Aegon a drunk in book? Yeah. But he was actually a pretty good King and actually fought in the war with his Dragon that had no experience with battle before this. Was Aemond ambitious in the book? Yes, but he wasn't any less ambitious or cruel than any of Daemons own actions. Daeron was actually kind and said to he great with the lute. He has done nothing to prove he is cruel besides trying to avenge his Nephews death.
But then we have Rhaenyra, their golden child. A woman who wanted the throne without putting any work into it. A woman who spoiled her dragon to the point her dragon didn't know how to even hunt for herself and then wondered why Syrax didn't know how to fight or stand up for herself. A woman who had three clearly bastard sons and then threw a fit when anyone called out the obvious.
It wasn't Aemond, Aegon, Helaena, or even Daeron that got the title of Cruel or Maegor reborn. No it was Rhaenyra, and I'm done with these Showrunners trying to act like people who have read and know the story of the dance are wrong.

Alicent’s relationships with her children can never be perfect and healthy because they’re objectively broken from their onset. And I’m so tired of seeing brain dead takes comparing the “superior” relationship Rhaenyra has with her kids to Alicent and her kids as some sort of gotcha.
Alicent’s exposure to motherhood isn’t on her terms in any conceivable way. Her children are the products of marital rape and coercion. They are conceived and born when she is a young teenage girl 15-18, well before she is ready to have them. They are born in quick succession with no opportunity for her to recover. And, they are from a man that not only does she not love but who neglects and belittles her.
All these factors severely damage Alicent’s ability to connect with her children in their infancy. And can you blame her given the circumstances?
She’s not ready to have them at all, so she doesn’t know how to properly mother them. And she likely resents them at least a bit in the early stages because they are the physical manifestation of not only her rape but the life she is trapped in. And that likely compounds with severe guilt because these are her babies, why doesn’t she feel the love and joy she’s supposed to?
And yet. She still loves and cares for them. She holds them as babies (despite being a baby herself) and dutifully cares for them even though she could simply dump them off with a nursemaid. She charges with a knife at Rhaenyra for them. She stands between them and a dragon from them. She betrays her closest companion of her childhood for them. She defies the king and their father for them.
I know that Alicent makes some crucial mistakes that ends up hurting her children. And I know that the scenes we see with Alicent and her kids often show her lack of connection to them. But despite the fact that her relationship to them can be nothing but fractured at the onset. There is so much passion and love and devotion she has for them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are not scenes of a woman who is a bad mother. These are scenes of a mother who adores her children and would do anything for them. But who can only love them roughly because she never had an opportunity to love them gently. Their very existence was never gentle for her and never fostered through love.
Alicent’s relationship with her kids may be broken. But it’s not her fault that it is. And no matter what there is love and it is her motivation. So stop acting like she is a bad mother when she’s fighting like hell to breed a relationship with them that is fostered in connection.

There's not a day when I won't feel sorry for her. He never deserved her or any of his children. Ironically, he killed Aemma for a son only to eventually gain not just one but three and neglect them. He traumatized a teenage girl for the rest of her life, using her and leaving her in the dust like she wasn't shit.

Alicent & her kids.

Exactly, everything she despite about herself she sees on Aegon and Aemond. Aegon her softness and emotional side that she sees as weakness. Aemond is her vengefulness and rage that she find ugly. She loves and despite them both for it.
Helaena is the innocence she lost. She tries to protect and feel guilty of her lost. Daeron is her spelling image that she can't even look at.

Show writers: Let’s make Alicent in S2 betray her sons.
Alicent in S1, ready to shield her son from dragon fire, despite knowing it would kill them both/all.

Writers must be on the same drugs the GOT writers were on when they fucked up S8.

hi, first off I love your blog(and I may have already messaged you about this or not though stay with me lol) though can we talk about team black fanfic taking canon green characters and making them "see the light "and chose Rhaenyra especially when it comes to the targtowers or them making an OC of Alicents twin sister or something and making her team black who hates Alicents children(save for Heleana) though upholds and loves Rhaenyra's children as her own, don't even get me started when they say stuff like "Heleana/Aemond would have been happy as Rhaenyra's daughter " (Aemond, Heleana get behind me) or making manip edits of Rhaenyra and Aegon if Alicent "allowed them " to bond like what😭- first off how Heleana literally said in the show she was happier BEFORE she was queen, yes she may not be happy now, I mean who wouldn't during a war though it also implies that she was happy during the six years time jump. Out of all of these switchings teams saying Aegon/Heleana/Aemond/ or EVEN DAERON would have been happier with Rhaenyra my most BIGGEST peeve is this infamous Alicents twin sister/ younger or older sister being team black like how would this narratively make since, even fanfiction wise, like what do you mean when queen Alicent makes her green dress entrance at Rhaenyra's wedding deciding not to pushed around anymore after she stuck her neck out for Rhaenyra and was lied to and her father ended up being fired for it(making her entirely alone at court) then this twin sister of comes down with the same exact dress though it's in red or black 🤣like WHAT- Like what do you mean you choose your child bride sister is is being martialy r#ped by the king and shut out by her former "best friend " for a marriage she didn't even choose and in the same breath doesn't blink an eye when her father is fired because of Rhaenyra's lie, don't even get me started when this Oc is inserted in the driftmark episode/chapter🤬 all I have to say about the driftmark chapters with this Oc, what a sh!t sister😐
Hello Anon! I do believe I got an ask similar to this once but I didn't realize I got it until it was a week later so I deleted it. But I will answer it now!
Firstly yes it also peeves me, especially when said sister likes dragon riding for some reason? I often find they do this as a way of saying "this is how Alicent should've been!" Even though Alicent did what was expected of her back then.
But what mostly upsets me is the fact they use Emily as a face claim. Like you could find someone who looks similar and yet you use her? It's like the people who use Milly as a face claim for Rhaenyra’s daughter, or even worse Emila Clarke as a face claim.
But onto the stories, I don't like hating on fanfic writers but I will admit there are things that peeve me. Like when they have Rhaenyra being a kind sister that was just not allowed near her siblings. When in reality in book she actively ignored them and called them names in front of court. Not just her brothers either, it says her SIBLINGS so it's clear they include Helaena. Alicent even tried to have a good relationship with Rhaenyra in book, it was only after she had Aegon that their relationship crumbled because as expected she thought Aegon would be his heir and on his second nameday would be declared it. But instead Viserys said how they are of Alicent's blood and won't take the throne. As if they aren't his own children that he forced onto her.
I also get annoyed by the Driftmark scene as many don't go into why it was so cruel of them to do. As if an insult between young boys was worthy of losing an eye. In fact I've said in a couple posts that Rhaenyra making a big deal out of a insult only shows she's guilty. So the people who make Alicent's twin or older/younger sister side with Rhaenyra obviously don't realize she probably would've also been sent to Viserys as Otto and many lords who have multiple daughters would've done.
But most of all it makes me upset because they don't seem to understand WHY Alicent was upset. Yes Rhaenyra technically not lie that Daemon and her didn't sleep together. But it was clear Alicent was asking on a broader spectrum, that did ANYONE touch Rhaenyra and if they did and she wasn't a maiden Alicent could help her. Instead Rhaenyra lied and even went as far as to use her mother's memory to defend herself. which Alicent would've understood as she herself lost her Mother at a young age. So when Alicent's eyes why would Rhaenyra ever use her Mother who she knows she loved dearly to lie to her?
Also the line of questioning her venture is treason is so stupid when you realize Rhaenyra wasn't using that against Otto but Alisent as well who is the FUCKING QUEEN and as such is higher in power than Rhaenyra.
Thanks for the ask Anon! Sorry I didn't answer it the first time lol.

So you're telling me the woman who crowned her only daughter with her own crown, who kissed her cheeks, knelt before her, and called her "my Queen" in front of all the smallfolk of Kings Landing, would go groveling back to the woman who traumatized her precious daughter and granddaughter and murdered her grandson, to beg for mercy and to promise to force Helaena to offer up her crown and position as queen? Because no other woman in this show is allowed to want to be queen, or be viewed as worthy of the position besides Rhaenyra. No "Queen Alicent, beloved of the smallfolk", no "Helaena had been loved, Rhaenyra was hated" no no no. Helaena being loved by the smallfolk and Aegon listening to her council for the war effort was biAsEd MaEsteR pRoPAgAnDa. According to HotD, Rhaenyra was the only woman who ever wanted to be queen/had a right to be queen/was worthy of being queen/was good at being queen.

I will never forgive HOTD for making me sit through TWO Rhaenyra births and TWO Rhaenyra weddings…
But never having us see Alicent’s wedding or births. Scenes that would have forced the fans to confront the true reality of how despicable her situation is. It would force viewers to see a child, devastated, as she walks down the aisle to her creepy old man of a husband. It would force viewers to watch a little girl have a child. Completely unprepared and alone, crying for her mother and finding no sympathy. She has no father to protect her. No mother to guide her and comfort her. No husband who cares about her.
It would force team black to stop seeing her as the evil seductress, for even a moment. And see her true vulnerability. See how she doesn’t, and never did, want this. See how these are not consequences of her actions, but instead the consequences of the men around her that she has to suffer for them. Because they don’t care about her. Viserys doesn’t care about her.
These are scenes that are meant to bring sympathy to her character. To give Alicent a reason to be righteously angry at the family and system that broke her down and stole her childhood. It gives Alicent a valid motive to fight aside from fear. And it takes away the chances for team black to deny her suffering at least a little bit.
Because as the current narrative sits, it’s easy to ignore Alicent’s experience and warp it into a much more pleasant story. They see Alicent “seducing” the king and then she is already married. And then she’s pregnant and the babies magically appear. No screaming or crying or bleeding involved. All is good. The teenager definitely didn’t suffer at all. And by doing this some people can’t sympathize as much or they are given allowances to intentionally not sympathize.
Instead. The current narrative allows for Alicent to be the seductress, the crazed woman, the jealous bitch, and the villain. But if we saw what she actually went through. Alone, scared, suffering, neglected, and holding it all in. We would be allowed to see her as she truly is. The victim. Finally crushing under the weight of it all and lashing out.
(And the narrative would be all the better for it because instead of feminist icon team vs crazy trad wife and co (as far as team black sees it), we would have woman fighting against patriarchal narrative for her own claim vs woman fighting against patriarchal narrative to destroy the people who hurt her)
