i actually have 2 different hopes mean dmcl fic wips and i've drawn for them both. one is a bit softer, it's more of an au (more than the other at least. none of these are that attached to canon) that happens before the timeskip with claude being 19 and dimitri almost there. they start neutral to each other then there's the crush phase, then dima gets aggressively into claude while claude is defensively mean to him.

the other is just downright mean with it happening when they're around 23 and they're actual enemies in this one though they don't necessarily hate each other in the beginning (it's complicated), things only get uglier before they get better (or at least smuttier lol).

anyway these are the kind of stories i just write without even knowing what the end should be. i just let the characters go crazy.

As a disclaimer i don't condemn anyone for liking a character i don't like nor liking a concept that wasn't properly executed ( unlike a lot of people in this godforsaken fanbasen ) so don't view my response as an attack.

I'm a fan of Claude but i like him critically and acknowledge and criticise the parts of his character that are offensive and badly written. One such example is that he's cool with violent racists like Hilda and Ingrid and can even marry them.

That being said Cyril isn't handled properly and his relationship with Rhea isnt healthy nor wholesome.

But before I can begin i want to debunk @themoomoorn's deliberately bad faith arguments regarding Claude.

You resort to cherrypicking to paint a false narrative all so that you can justify your hatred against Claude. The rest of the support literally proves the exact opposite. He doesn't enforce his will onto Cyril cause of his status and he isn't upset at Cyril wants to remain in Fodlan. Infact does the exact opposite.

Like i said Claude isn't without his bad writing but to talk as if your faves are innocent is hysterical.

Rhea is complicit in the oppression of Duscur and Brigid and aids Kleiman in killing Duscur rebels.

Dimitri the supposed ally of Duscur and noble leader callously said that the Duscur rebels dying in vain for the sake of his racist soldiers is the best outcome when prior to that he was foaming at the mouth over Byleth rightfully making that statement against Lonato's forces

And Byleth supports them both, says nothing about the extremely racist members of the central church refusing Dedue's aid in helping with the assassination plot cause his people are accused of being inherently evil, accuse Dedue of kidnapping Flayn, want to kill all the downtrodden refugees and foreigners of Abyss by purging them and says nothing about Ingrid's racist remarks against Duscur.

Feel free to dislike Claude but don't act like you do it for moral reasons when you give your worse faves a free pass.

And the audacity for you and your friends to accuse me of making shit up, denying canon and "fetishizing" dark skinned characters when you're the ones romanticizing and defending the white saviour narrative and the dark skinned servants that worship them is hypocrisy and projections at its finest.

If Edelgard "saved" Cyril or Dedue and they were her subservient vassals you'd never argue against the claim that their relationship is unhealthy and racist.

It's not a matter of what that's important to you but a matter of who, just like 95% of this fanbase.

With that out the way let me explain why Cyril's character and relationship to Rhea is extremely racist and unhealthy.

For starters hating minorities doesn't begin and end with saying slurs, it's prejudice + power.

Rhea has power over Fodlan's laws

The other regions and rulers answer to Rhea and not the other way around

She practices nationalism through her laws. She banned a Dagdan refugee for practicing her own religion and said religion was deemed demonic.

Rulers and lords with less power than Rhea have given the oppressed foreign nations their due reperations and support.

In contrast Rhea only intervenes when she wants to oppress other nations for her own benefit either by aiding Faerghus in killing Duscur rebels or oppressing Brigid for herself in cf proving she could've helped them but refused.

An foreign orphan that was subjected to cruel slavery being told to do the same for Rhea instead of living the life a child should live isn't noble, it's utterly disgusting. He only gets to stay here because he has to pay rent in the form of harsh slavery.

In his support with Mercedes Cyril suffered from so much racism at the hands of the central church to the point hes shocked that people from Fodlan like Ashe and Mercedes consider him their friend.

Cyril states that Rhea gets mad when other people do his job for him in his B support with Byleth

Seteth acknowledges that his current lifestyle as Rhea's "errand boy" is so awful that anything that it requires something far worse to call his current life a paradise in his support with Cyril

In the end of their support conversations he says that Rhea can decide whether or not Cyril can stop repaying his debt

Like Dedue he only likes pleasing their white "saviour" because he's mentally and emotionally damaged from the abuse he faced and never healed from these traumatic experience.

His devotion and one-sided relationship is so unhealthy that he skips sleep and meals just to please an already privileged ruler in his A support with Byleth

He is so dangerously devoted to Rhea that he follows her to heinous crimes attrocities without question by sacrificing the very citizens that have been loyal to Rhea and depend on her protection.

Cyril saying he likes living an inhuman and unhealthy life is about as realistic as Byleth loving and defending Edelgard when it's revealed shes the flame emperor they vehemently despise. It's not.

And last and certainly not least writers against dark skinned races.

Dimitri's double standards regarding Duscur is one of many examples, dark skinned characters respond to their lives being saved with eternal servitude and worshipping and having dark skinned characters worship and be subservient white characters is extremely racist cause it mirrors the gross history of slavery.

Claiming that Cyril and Dedue worshipping their white "saviours" isn't racist is like claiming Pocahontas isn't racist towards native Americans.

Despite the fact i call out how disgusting the writing behind Cyril is that doesn't mean I'm against the idea of a healthy relationship between him and Rhea. Or at the very least have his needless sense of being eternally indebted to Rhea actually be challenged and have him recover from it so that he can have a healthy relationship with Rhea.

Before this post gets any longer than it already is i'll out my explanation of Rhea's power over Fodlan and her nationalistic crimes under a read more.

Rhea has might and influence over Fodlan whole all the other rulers and nobles are obligated to obey her.

She has the combined might of both the knights of Seiros and Faerghus on her side, Leicester can't make their own changes nor move in cohesion cause of the roundtable and opportunistic nobles that look out for themselves and prior to Edelgard reclaiming her power as an emperor, preparing for war and her disinformation campaign against Rhea Adrestia had neither the unity nor the benefit of attacking the central church.

Fodlan is the way it is largely due to Rhea, which includes her nationalism.

Foreigners cannot live on equal footing and their only place is either as Rhea's servant or rotting in Abyss.

She deported a Dagdan refugee for practicing her own faith cause Rhea deems it as demonic

She allowed Adrestia to vassalize Brigid and kidnap their princess to be locked up as a political hostage and suffered abuse at the hands of racist Adrestians.

And she is complicit in the colonizing of both Duscur and Sreng and the only reason the latter isn't fully killed and conquered is cause Macuil used the same power as Rhea did to unintentionally prevent Lambert, Rodrigue and Matthias from colonizing Sreng.

Rulers and nobles with less like Sylvain, Dimitri and a small force like Byleth's in Silver Snow succeeded in doing what Rhea refused to do. Sylvain made amends with the people of Sreng, Dimitri fought civil wars for Duscur to reclaim their homeland and every non cf army liberated Brigid from the empire's imperialism.

In cf even with the fall of Leicester Rhea's army was capable of oppressing Brigid herself proving that she could've helped Brigid a lot earlier but refused.

On top of that in the present day in Houses she aids Faerghus in commiting the same crimes Nemesis committed against her, killing the natives, stealing their land and preventing them from getting their homes back.

So about Rhea and Cyril’s relationship

Is there a scene I just didn’t find where Rhea is abusing Cyril or is that just a fandom headcanon? I’m being genuine btw I wanna know where Rhea hating minorities came from, (if she dislikes one race and that’s the human race y’all 😭)

Annette's uncle not having a name is hilarious.

This is the game with many characters essentially having 2 names cause theyre incognito, his son has a name and Hopes went out of their way to give names to 2 brand new characters ( Leif being the son of the Sreng chief and Adrianne being a rising star in the opera company )

And despite all of this our generic paladin doesn't have a name to call him by.

He'll forever be known as Annette's uncle, Simon's dad and Gilbert's brother and that's hilarious.
