higuchi thoughts of the day: as much as i love the idea of her having some devastatingly destructive ability… her having a healing/support ability would explain so much of her character. like. her high ranking in the mafia despite (as far as we know) not being extraordinarily strong. her assignment to akutagawa + his resentment of her + her being so overprotective of him. the irl author’s connection to mori and yosano. dw about it

The notes on that Henson post are all either like, "oh it was the cult he was raised in" (he seems to have left it decades prior but, yk, stuff lingers), "he just like me fr" (??? don't do that), or "if only he knew and went to the doctor sooner :("
But truly, if anything, the commentary I added is UNDERSTATING how streptococcus operates— like unless some other grievous torso injury had happened to Henson early on in the illness that required BOTH blood cultures AND X-rays, AND the infection and lung abscesses had been caught, AND they proceeded with heavy medication AND likely surgical intervention, AND the timing and execution of all that were perfect + he didn't pick up any additional bugs at the hospital... there was & even nowadays would be no other route to survival. It would have taken extreme & sheer dumb luck, it would have been excruciating, and it still would have only been a "maybe."
And any bacteria that escaped purging could still "detonate" and kill him decades later.
All after, by medical standards of the time, not doing anything "wrong."
Like, follow medical recommendations re: antibiotic usage to the letter with "regular" strep because otherwise, you may die, AND you will make new germs that are harder to kill so OTHER people will also die. But Henson did not have "regular" strep— and my point is, regular strep bacteria FROM 1990 could tear you apart brutally, and the strep of the 2020s is already stronger, faster, and scarier.
I'm not saying, "save yourself the way Henson should have," he was already doomed before ever flying back to NYC, which is tragic, but that was not an issue in his or your or any of our control— I'm saying we're in a losing war against bacteria, so save yourself if and when you can, AND don't give the germ another fucking gun, because it's already strong enough that there are ways you can get sick and no one can save you, and we haven't medically been able to move the needle on that, but the germ sure has.
Same as polio vaccination. The herd immunity and the armor needs to be strong, because if enough people get sick enough for it or one of its cousin viruses to MUTATE and then spread again, we cannot save you. The vaccines of the past will not protect you. There is no "if only." There are not enough iron lungs left in the world. Get vaccinated and follow medical best practices so you don't fill a graveyard.
We live in a scary world where we are not the determinors of our own health and safety. And sometimes there are no life jackets.
#then ofc the issue of: would you rather know and fight but lose the time with the people you love?#that's a more complex one#but if the second someone picked up that strep was the moment their countdown timer started... if you knew that then whst do you do?#obvs that's limited by being contagious & not wanting your loved ones to get sick ofc#but it's a horrifying painful death; and a horrifying painful recovery if you make it; and both are difficult#so what kind of time do you lose fighting a losing battle for more time?#not even worrying about quality of life frankly lol I've thought of that & I'll take being miserable and alive over being dead#like... i'll eventually get there anyway#but not even as a philosophical question: realistically what does end of life healthcare and hospice and palliative care look like to you?#it shouldn't be why you don't seek care! esp if you don't know your odds!#but with henson going to the hospital 2 days earlier would have just cost him the last 2 days of his life he'd ever have with his family#the family doesn't grieve less. that time is not necessarily more comfortable. it's just a different way to die.#it's all desperately sad. but there's no moral to the story or life lesson to be had. sometimes things are just sad.#only thing we can do is sanitize like a mf and be vigilant about handwashing & masks & doctor visits & antibiotic usage#to form that human chain or shield wall where we can bc unlike a virus there is no vaccine & no herd immunity.#just us getting our shit kicked in concave by a microbe.#deceased //#death //#jim henson#health

I haven't posted about my art in a while due to my major health issues.
From March 12, 2023, when I first located the lump in my left breast, to the present, it has been heart wrenching and challenging. I no longer have my father or mother, both have sadly passed away, to help me through this.
And I don't want to be a burden on my children.
My siblings ... have always been and continues to be distance ... which is the saddest part of going through any terminal illness alone. But sometimes, you have to walk away from what hurt you and you can't go back [no matter how much it breaks your heart ... God knows your journey.].
After being in remission for ovarian cancer from 2018 until 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer with numerous bone metastasis.
The illness and treatment have drastically impacted my physical and mental health to the point where I have not been fully active. It has taken a toll on me.
Everything has changed. I am sad to admit, also, that many people have also changed. This is a devastating and horrible disease that no one should have to journey alone. But 'it is what it is' and I must keep fighting, whether with support or on my own.
I will always have God.
Cancer takes away everything. Each day is a battle, but this is my journey and forward I must go.
Stay safe. Be kind. Be humble. Be human.

completely absurd how they're trying to repeal laws about nosocomial infections, repeal protections, make it harder for people to sue. and have the audacity to blame patients who sue for rising medical costs.

I’m stepping a bit outside my comfort zone and starting something new.
My therapist could see how frustrated I get with people not knowing or understanding how sick I am. She floated the idea of me coming up with a social media project to help raise awareness for what I’m going through.
So I created a podcast! I’m very nervous about it, but also very excited! I’ll be talking about various topics about being disabled and terminally ill.
It’s available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, and Amazon Music!! So far the only thing available is my trailer, but I’ll be uploading short episodes weekly as long as my health lets me.

Quick Pro-Life Responses
Keep in mind: the fundamental disagreement between pro-life and pro-choice is on whether a fetus is being formed into a person, or if the fetus is already a person and is simply developing.
Confidently assert, “you say that because you think a fetus is not a person yet.”
They may concede fetuses are people in word, but still not conceptualize them as full people worthy of equal consideration.
“I have the right to bodily autonomy.”
Abortion is literally suffocation, poisoning, or dismemberment of a living human organism.
Abortion induces fetal demise by depriving a human of oxygen, blood, or vital function.
Bodily autonomy does not justify abuse of power and excessive force over a helpless person.
Abortion, a disproportionately brutal response to a passive threat, is aggressive violence.
“No one has the right to use my body.”
Correct. But, a prenatal person does not use a pregnant person’s body. They have no agency.
A pregnant person’s body takes care of the prenate. This care is ordinary and healthy.
Abortion is not like refusing care to a dying person, it is like murdering a healthy captive.
No one has the right to murder someone who they caused to be dependent on them.
“I have the right to revoke my consent.”
When you give consent, you agree to accept the foreseeable outcomes and risks of an action.
The creation of a bodily dependent is a foreseeable outcome of consensual intercourse.
You cannot revoke consent to outcomes. You can revoke consent to actions.
You may not violently sacrifice a helpless person to “mitigate” a risk of a consensual action.
“Anything dependent on my body is a parasite.”
If you make parasites, then you’re a parasite; it’s misogynist to suggest women are parasites.
The female body would not actively try to make pregnancy happen if it were parasitic.
Prenates never directly cause pregnant people harm; they are not aggressors or parasites.
Using developmental dependency to justify murder is simultaneously ageist and ableist.
“An embryo is just a clump of cells.”
Human embryos meet NASA’s criteria for the characteristics of distinct living organisms.
Human embryos are self-directed and their development follows a body plan.
Human embryos are organized and individual. They already have inherited capacities.
Tumors and gametes do not follow an organized body plan.
“Early humans have no cognitive capacities.”
By week 3, the embryo has a spine and is developing a nervous system.
By week 5, the embryo has a rudimentary brain that controls their pulse.
By week 8, the embryo has pain reflexes and can move their limbs.
It’s incredibly ableist to use the cognitive inabilities of a human being to justify their murder.
“If a fetus is a person, so is a brain-dead human.”
A brain-dead human is, obviously, dead. It’s an oxygenated corpse, the remains of a person.
Death occurs when human organisms stop resisting entropy and lose organic integration.
Preborn people actively resist entropy (decay) and have organic integration (unity).
An early human organism isn’t dependent on a mature brain to organize her vital functioning.
“Later abortions only happen for medical reasons.”
According to two studies by pro-abortion researcher at UCSF Katrina Kimport, this is untrue.
Kimport’s studies found that the reasons for later abortions are similar to early abortions.
Later abortions aren’t euthanasia; infants are stabbed with lethal injections and dismembered.
Perinatal hospice and palliative care relieve suffering. Dying babies deserve love, not murder.
“What about rape and incest?”
Abortion is not evidence-based treatment for sexual trauma. Abortion is traumatic as well.
A preborn child should not be condemned to the death penalty for their father’s crime.
It is safe for most menstruating children to carry pregnancies to viability with sufficient prenatal care.
Children conceived in incest are likely to have disabilities; that’s not reason to murder them.
“What about health of the mother?”
Every abortion ban in the US has exceptions for if the mother’s life or body is in grave danger.
We are not against tragic cases of triage. We are against elective induced abortion.
Some procedures coded medically as abortions aren’t legally or ethically defined as abortions.
Pro-life doctors report that the bans have not impeded their ability to treat their patients.
Your Core Arguments
There is no sound evidence or consistent logic that proves the preborn are the only class of human beings exceptional to the rule that humans are people with equal rights.
If a being is in the dynamic process of bonding with us as kin, then that being is a whole actual person by the manner of actively and inherently relating to our collective humanity.
Embryonic humans are full and equal people like us because they latently embody our same capacities and are manifesting them as we are, on account of sharing our nature.
