Hi Sky, I saw that you recommend maybe watching videos about ostomies for people who have just gotten them. Are there any particular videos you recommend for info?
Absolutely!
This is a super helpful video from a YouTube vlogger, LetsTalkIBD, who is both a person with an ostomy and a registered nurse. This is one of the best demonstrations and explanations for the placement of a new ostomy bag I have seen!
The same vlogger has a super considerate and insightful video on intimacy with an ostomy. It is helpful hearing these thoughts from a young person with a good sense of humor.
A YouTube channel, Truly, shares the story of Paula who went from dying of a bowel infection to being a fashion designer - for ostomy bags! - and content creator on TikTok. She describes her grieving process and how she discovered her love of sewing by making ostomy bag covers that match her outfits.
Truly also shares the story of a young man named Joel who learned about his condition through intense flares. He describes his battle of coping and grieving his condition and learning to love himself despite his ostomy and autoimmune condition. He says that his ostomy saved his life.
Shield HealthCare shares the story of Laura Cox's decision to have her ostomy surgery before her disease process progressed to an emergent state. She discusses the things she wishes that someone told her before her surgery; all of her points are inspiring and informative to a person considering an ostomy placement. Laura shares a similar video regarding top concerns with ostomies on the same channel.
To pair with LetsTalkIBD's video on new ostomy bag placement, Mr. ColitisCrohns shows both how to remove an old bag and place a new one. This video is particularly helpful for men or those who have extra body hair on their abdomen.
I am so thankful that the Internet has brought so many people with "invisible" illnesses together! The resources are truly abundant when you know what to look for.

today is the day I beg a psychiatrist to medicate me, do U have any tips for a schizo seeking treatment?
I can't really give advice on how to get them to medicate you bc I have no idea how to do that - I was just shoved on med after med. But I can give insight when it comes to meds themselves.
Make sure you're properly educated on the side effects, safety, and effectiveness the medication options. The sedation makes sleep apnea worse. Keep your family medical history in mind when doing that, too - you wanna minimize risks as much as possible, while still finding an effective medication.
Antipsychotics can be pretty brutal when it comes to adverse reactions, mainly with long term use. But generally, atypical antipsychotics are safer than typical antipsychotics. Also, for me, antidepressants made my psychosis worse, even when I was on an antipsychotic. That may be something to keep an eye out for.
Antipsychotics can also limit the medications you can take, and some do that more than others. If you may need another kind of med in the future, if you can take an (effective) antipsychotic that still leaves that med as an option, that's ideal.
All of this basically comes down to advocating for yourself and being educated. Ideally, your doctors should educuate you, and I would verify what they say too - they can be wrong. And remember, you know your bodymind best. Period. If you need help, you need help. It's really hard to challenge professionals, but they're supposed to work for you, not for their egos or prejudices.

If you’re using a medication that is compounded, it’s important to know what to expect from a compounding pharmacy in Florida. Compounded medications are specially prepared to meet individual needs, which means their labels may not follow standard formats. These medications might be tailored in strength or form (such as a liquid instead of a pill), so it’s essential to discuss any specific instructions or information provided by the pharmacist regarding your compounded medication. Understanding how it may differ from commercially available options can empower you in your treatment.

Cardiologists, like Dr. Jagtap, often focus on specific areas such as non-invasive cardiology, interventional cardiology, or cardiac surgery. Depending on your needs, find a heart specialist in Pune whose expertise matches your health concerns.
5. Approach to Treatment
A good cardiologist should not only treat illnesses but also focus on preventive care. It’s essential to understand how a potential cardiologist approaches treatment. Look for someone who values patient education and takes time to explain treatment options.
6. Communication Style
Effective communication is important in the doctor-patient relationship. Choose a cardiologist who makes you feel comfortable and answers your questions clearly. A doctor who listens can help reduce anxiety related to heart conditions.
7. Location and Accessibility
Practical matters like the cardiologist’s location are important as well. Select a cardiologist in Pune whose office is easy to reach, making it simpler to attend appointments and follow-ups. Accessibility is especially crucial for emergency care.

Before choosing a cardiologist, check if they accept your health insurance. Knowing the costs for consultations, tests, and treatments in advance can help you avoid unexpected expenses.

Key Factors Influencing Medical Adherence: Understanding Barriers to Treatment Compliance
What is Medical Adherence?
Medical adherence, also known as treatment compliance or medication compliance, refers to the extent to which a person follows the instructions they are given for prescribed treatments. This includes taking medications, following lifestyle changes, attending appointments and completing diagnostic tests as recommended by their healthcare provider. Medical adherence therefore necessitates active participation and cooperation from patients. Factors Affecting Adherence Subheading: Understanding What Can Impact Adherence Levels Several factors have been found to influence a person's ability and willingness to adhere to their prescribed medical regimen. These include: Complexity of Treatment Regimen: More complex treatment plans involving multiple medications, frequent dosing or lifestyle changes can be difficult for patients to follow consistently. Simpler regimens tend to see higher adherence levels. Disease Severity: Patients experiencing acute or severe symptoms are often more motivated to adhere strictly in order to feel relief. Those with chronic conditions that are managed well may become less adherent over time if they feel well. Side Effects: Experiencing bothersome or unpleasant side effects from medications can reduce adherence as patients try to avoid these issues. Minimizing side effects through dosage adjustments or alternative treatments can help. Costs: Financial burdens associated with treatments like expensive medications, frequent doctor visits or tests can hinder adherence, especially for those without adequate insurance coverage. Mental Health: Patients dealing with mental health issues like depression have difficulty remembering to take medications or keeping track of appointments. Treating any underlying mental illnesses can indirectly help improve adherence. Support Systems: Medical Adherence who have strong social support from family and friends find it easier to follow treatment plans consistently over time compared to isolated individuals. Support groups can also help boost adherence. Measuring and Tracking Medical Adherence Subheading: Methods for Evaluating Adherence Levels It can be challenging for healthcare providers to assess exactly how adherent their patients are being without direct supervision. Several methods are commonly used to evaluate and track adherence over time: Pill Counts: Counting remaining pills in medication bottles when patients return for appointments provides an estimate of how many doses have been missed. However, patients can manipulate counts. Pharmacy Refill Records: Examining patterns of refilling prescriptions on schedule per prescribed duration of treatment offers insight into adherence behaviors over longer periods. Frequent lapses in refilling raise red flags. Self-reporting Questionnaires: Asking patients direct questions about how consistently they have been following recommendations can provide useful subjective data, but replies may not always be fully honest. Electronic Monitoring Devices: Medication bottles with in-built microchips that record each opening provide precise adherence data invisible to patients. However, patients may alter behaviors knowing they are being monitored so closely. Biomarker Tests: Certain blood tests and procedures can detect biological markers indicating a medication was indeed ingested within a specific window, corroborating self-reports. Testing is expensive for regular use. Combining multiple methods paints the most accurate overall picture of a patient's true adherence profile over time to recognize issues early and target necessary support interventions. Health IT solutions leveraging electronic medical records also facilitate ongoing adherence tracking.
