My Experience Buying eSIMs for Gaza by Maia Kobabe
instagram / patreon / portfolio / etsy / my books
Full transcript below the cut:

My Experience Buying eSIMs for Gaza
Project organized by @ connectinghumanity_
by Maia Kobabe @redgoldsparks
Page 1
In Fall 2023, I saw instructions on instagram for how to purchase an eSIM card and submit it to be distributed to someone in Gaza.
Download an eSIM app-> Select Middle East as the region-> Purchase-> Screenshot the QR code-> Do not activate-> send to [email protected]
Image of Maia looking at eir phone. “That sounds easy, I’ll buy one.”
I emailed an Airalo eSIM QR code to gazaesims on Nov 17 2023.
Page 2
By January 2024, it hadn’t been activated yet. I bought a second one from Nomad and sent my new QR code and resubmitted my old one.
Image of Maia looking at eir phone. “How long does this usually take, I wonder?”
By February neither had been activated, but Connecting Humanity kept posting about needing more. I bought a second Nomad and resubmitted all of them on February 15, 2024.
Page 3
The Nomad eSIMs are much cheaper than Airalo, but what I didn’t realize is that they expire even if they haven’t been activated. At the end of February I decided to try a third company, Simly. Here’s a price comparison:
AIRALO: $39 USD for 3GB, never expires
SIMLY: $22 USD for 3GB, never expires
NOMAD: $16 USD for 3GB, expires after 8 weeks even if unused, only offers in-app refunds
Page 4
Connecting Humanity asks folks to wait at least 3 weeks before resending a QR code that hasn’t been activated yet. On March 7 Mirna Elhelbawi posted:
We send EVERY esim we receive. Bear in  mind that we are dealing with people at a war zone. They might take it and get killed before activating it, they might take it and their phone gets lost or destroyed. They might take it and search for days for stable internet connection to activate it, and some of them activate it unsuccessfully due to lack of knowledge and the horrific situations they are in. ~Connecting Gaza
By early April, my first Nomad eSIM expired unused. I resubmitted my three remaining eSIMs.
Page 5
Suddenly, two of my eSIMs were activated on the same day! The Airalo I’d purchased 4.5 months earlier and my second Nomad.
Image of Maia looking happy and surprised.
Image of Maia looking very intensely at eir phone. “I have to make sure these don’t run out!”
I began buying top-up packages immediately.
Page 6
I felt like I had planted a seed in the fall and waited all winter for it to sprout. Seeing it activated was like watching the first new leaves break the soil.
Image of Maia with a watering can labeled “data”, sprinkling water on two little sprouts. “Watering my eSIMs!”
Sadly, only .07 GB of data was ever used on my Nomad. It was never used again after that first day.
Page 7
But my Airalo has been in constant use for over a month now. I check on it every day.
I will never know the person I am buying data for and they will never know me. But we are connected by the same strings of hope and grief that connect us all.
Image of two hands holding a phone, which is connected to a flying kite.
Page 8
On April 5, 2024 Connecting Humanity reported they had sent more than 250,000 eSIMs to Gaza, equivalent to approximately $6.3 million donated! You can visit gazaesims.com for more info, instructions, and discounts. Here are my referral codes:
MAIA5367 for $3 off Airalo
MB772 for $3 off Simly
MAIA66GF for $3 off Nomad
If you need more incentive, the Cartoonist Coop is doing art rewards. Visit cartoonist.coop/esims4gaza
Page 9
Image of Maia, weighing two options. “Buying an eSIM is easy and can make a very direct impact. It can also take a lot of patience and could get expensive over time if you commit to keeping the eSIM topped up indefinitely.”
If an immediate one time donation is more your speed, I recommend Operation Olive Branch and Gazafunds, two places to find Gofundmes aiding Palestinian families.

When deciding who to work for there is a sliding scale of employers that goes from lil mom and pop shops up to corporate monoliths. I have worked at both ends of the spectrum and I can pretty definitively say that tiny businesses are hands down the most insane employers.
The sweet spot is a place that has like 10-20 stores; that’s the best possible work environment. They’ll be polished enough to have protocols that make work structured, but not so bogged down with bureaucracy that nothing can ever get done.
This story is not from that sweet spot. This story is from my time working at Oil and Vinegar. Now, like many little franchise stores, the idea was solid. There was on tap imported olive oil and vinegar and it was really delicious. Top shelf. Unfortunately, each location was like the Wild West because owners varied wildly.
My owner was the human embodiment of Mr. Krabbs. His eyes were just constant dollar signs. Throughout my training he informed me of the price of every single piece of equipment I touched and how much it cost to replace it.
He had cameras set up to watch us, and an app on his phone to access the live feed. He’d call us to ask what we were doing when he’d just checked a camera to make sure we were being honest.
Now, the trouble was he had two locations. His location further south did amazing. It was way more centrally located and got three times the foot traffic. The one I worked in was in the snottiest mall possible in Arizona and consequently the rent was through the roof.
It was not going well for my store. We didn’t get as much traffic, so there was only so much I could do in a day. I could dust, sweep, and wait for customers. I read a lot and was frank when he called to interrogate me. I always asked for additional tasks but he never had any. What could I do to prop up a failing business?
But this man was convinced there was some Secret Reason that the store I was in was doing worse. He crunched numbers, looked at staff, and eventually hit upon the most insane possible solution.
We used too much toilet paper.
We were probably stealing toilet paper! Bleeding him dry one single ply square at a time! How dare we need to use the bathroom?! His south location used half as much toilet paper as we did, we must be thieving little monsters!!!!
Friends. The south location was populated entirely by men. My location had three people on staff who had to sit to pee. It was so blindly transparently the source of the discrepancy but this man was convinced we were making off with toilet paper to bankrupt him.
So he implemented what he believed to be an entirely reasonable response to this base treachery. We were allowed to have one roll of toilet paper. At any given time, one roll was permitted to us. This was so transparently unhinged that we protested but he insisted. If we were low on toilet paper we needed to call him to drop off a roll that he brought from his home. Smiling jovially, he assured us he lived so close by that it would be no problem!
When we needed to call him often for more he started tearing his hair out. What were we using toilet paper for?! Why wasn’t his genius plan to stop our scandalous waste working??!
Finally, the manager, the only man on staff had to pull the owner aside and be like, “Look, man, their bladders are smaller. They need to wipe every time they pee. They need to pee even more on their period. Is this really the hill you want to die on?”
Yes. It was. The manager was fired unrelated reasons and denounced as a traitor. The toilet paper ration lasted until I quit and probably until the store closed six months later.

the meeting
ceo!price x reader / ~3k words
Folks seemed to like the first installment of this maybe-series, so I cooked up a second part in between drafts of the next chapter of For the Record (shameless plug). Not sure if this will be a whole thing or a series of vignettes. Enjoy!
CW: red flags everywhere, power imbalance, alcohol (mentioned)
You lay low after the company Christmas party and losing the drama wager to Jordan. Heads down, nose to the grindstone, and so forth. You never found the courage to respond to Mr. Price's direct message over the holidays. The shock from receiving a response at all kept you up at night. The message was supposed to get lost in his notifications, buried beneath the hundreds of messages he supposedly got a day. And he had not only replied, he insinuated he wanted to grab drinks. You checked it a hundred times.
johnprice - invisible Hi, Mr. Price. I was wondering what you want for Christmas? > World peace. > I'd settle for a drink, though.
You could be reading into it. Flattering yourself. Profile photos were required on the chat app to help put faces to names, so he could have recognized you as the punch girl from the open bar. Most likely, he was making a joke and humoring an underling.
Whatever the reason, his simple reply plagues you well into the new year.
The first quarter is always hectic for The 141 Group. New regulations go into effect, and projects and initiatives kick off, setting the year's foundation. Since your boss Kyle is VP of Finance, it's even busier for him with budget meeting check-ins, payroll reports, and financial policy updates. And if his life is busy, your life is busy because his success is your success.
"Need you to bump everything I have today after three to tomorrow," He murmurs when you collect a stack of documents to copy.
"This is the second time you'll have pushed the meeting with technology directors," You remind him, but make a note anyway. "They'll complain to Mr. MacTavish."
Kyle glances up. "Let them. He's clearing his schedule this afternoon, too."
"Oh?"
"Big man's bringing the C-Suite and a few of us lucky VPs in for a meeting."
A practiced EA, you keep the instant surge of dread from reaching your face. It isn't strange for Kyle, though technically a subordinate to the CFO, to attend such meetings. Mr. Price frequently pulls him into special projects. You simply hoped to avoid the 'big man' for as long as possible. On the bright side, when Kyle never reprimanded you for flippantly messaging the CEO upon return from holiday, you assumed Mr. Price never said anything. Hopefully, he forgot about your message altogether.
"Need me for notes?" You ask, hovering in the doorway to his office.
"Please. Something tells me it'll be tense." Interesting.
With a nod, you tuck the folder under an arm and pat the doorframe. "Got it. Lunch'll be here soon. I ordered Indian and Thai. Whatever you don't want, I'll eat."
"You're a lifesaver."
"I know."
~~
Conference Room Bravo isn't the biggest meeting space in the building, but everybody knows it's Mr. Price's preference. With an unobstructed view of the water and natural light, you like it, too. Especially since the small group of assistants who attend the more critical meetings sits on a long bench built into an alcove in the wall with a good view of the windows.
You and five other EAs ensure every seat at the main table is set with the appropriate accoutrements. Tea and coffee are on standby. With a three-hour window allocated, everyone will need a spot of caffeine at some point. Fifteen minutes before the scheduled start, you chat and make personal preparations.
"Did MacTavish seem stressed about this?" You ask Jordan as she takes the seat next to you.
She shakes her head. "No. You know him, though. It takes a bit to work him up."
"What about Laswell?" You lean forward and look down the bench at Oliver, the Chief Information Officer's right hand.
The younger man looks up from his laptop. "Same as Mr. MacTavish, kind of. Hard to tell, but she didn't take a smoke break, so…"
"Right."
The conversation drifts to weekend plans until Lucy, the newest EA to Mr. Shepherd, pipes up.
"Isn't it strange Mr. Price doesn't have a permanent assistant?"
It's a fair question for a new person. Since you started at The 141 Group, the desk outside Mr. Price's office has functioned as a revolving door. Guiltily, you stopped trying to learn their names about ten temps in, and since then, it's a coin flip if anyone's there at all. The general rule is if you have something to deliver to Mr. Price, you leave it on the empty desk.
"Nah, nobody's good enough," Jordan answers. "MacTavish once told me Price is a workaholic with impossibly high standards. Not a good combination for an assistant."
Oliver agrees. "Laswell said as much, too. Apparently, at his place, he has a whole recreation of his office and gets right back to work when he gets home. And, his only staff are the bodyguards."
You would feel sad about that if Mr. Price wasn't a gazillionaire. An older man, hunching over a computer, completely alone in his home…when he could certainly afford staff and delegate.
Still, if he kept himself so busy, it made the fact he responded to your DM quite interesting.
The conversation dies when the attendees trickle in.
Kyle arrives with Mr. MacTavish, the latter of whom flashes a grin at Jordan and you. Close behind is the hulking mountain of a CSO, Mr. Riley, who, as usual, wears a black surgical mask. (The rumors around that accessory are practically 141 Group lore.) Other members of the C-Suite file in and Mr. Price arrives last, followed by his guards who post up at the door. He shuts the door behind him, the click silencing the room.
Your eyes glue themselves to the computer in your lap. Jordan elbows you a little, obviously enjoying the lingering effects of her wager.
As Mr. Price sits down, you finally steal a glance. He's wearing the hell out of a charcoal suit with a blue tie that makes his eyes pop, even across the room. His expression is stern, borderline grim, and thankfully, like everybody else at the main table, doesn't even glance in your direction. He's straight to the point. "Thank you all for making time in your schedules on short notice. Let's get started, shall we?"
~~
An hour and a half in, Price calls for a break. As the most senior EA on the bench, you lovingly pass on refreshment duty to Lucy and Desmond, the most junior. You follow Kyle to the hall.
"Need anything?" You ask when you're a reasonable distance down from the conference room.
"Do you think you can clean up the notes and send them to me by nine tonight?"
Your brows raise. Rarely does the man ask you to work late. He usually doesn't need to, as you pride yourself on efficiency. "Of course. I'll make a physical copy, too. What's your read on it, by the way?"
Kyle gives a tired smile. "You aren't paying attention, are you."
"I take down everything I hear to ensure you have impeccable notes. Listening gets in the way of that," You offer a grin, then glance down at his tie. Crooked. You fix it without thinking and chat more about his schedule tomorrow. A few people pass by in the hallway to use the restroom or stretch their legs, but you don't pay them mind.
"Mr. Garrick?" You both turn to see Jordan's head sticking out of the door. "They're resuming."
Kyle sighs quietly and starts back toward the conference room. You follow.
Settling back into your seat on the bench, you feel eyes on you, but when you look around, there's nothing. Weird.
~~
The meeting concludes on the dot at six. The attendees leave first, as do the rest of the assistants when you volunteer to clean up. Jordan waves goodbye when Mr. MacTavish departs alongside Mr. Riley. You sigh in relief when Price walks out with Shepherd and Laswell, leaving you and Kyle. Your boss swipes through his phone as you collect the trash and dishes, leaving everything for janitorial.
"Do you need a ride?" Kyle asks when you collect your laptop. "I'm heading your way."
"No, I think I'll finish the notes here, wait for rush hour to die down."
Kyle walks out with you and frowns. "If you stay past eight, please text. I'll have a car come back for you."
You suppress the urge to roll your eyes. Kyle is merely protective. "I'll take the train or call a rideshare myself."
He pushes the matter when you return to your corner of the executive floor, but you don't give in. You plan to stop for food on the way home and aren't keen to make his driver wait. When he finally leaves, you find yourself alone on the floor. Most folks leave at five, so everyone else cleared out when the meeting ended at six.
You clean, format, and summarize the meeting notes in an hour and a half. Due to Kyle's earlier comment, you make an effort to read into business. As far as you can tell, it's another big new project with lots of money on the table. The name of a new contractor company for extra hands mildly raises your interest. The usual choice, Chimera Company, must be busy. Other than that, everything's a slog to read. You trust that if something's important and need-to-know, Kyle will explain.
You email Kyle the notes a few minutes shy of eight and send them to the printer. Languidly stretching as you go, you walk to the copy room. At this hour, most overhead lights are on a timer and won't turn back on until morning to conserve energy. So, it's natural your eyes flick to Mr. Price's office at the end of the long hallway. There's a sliver of light beneath the door, beckoning like a golden gate. Turning into the darkened copy room, picturing Mr. Price at his desk distracts enough you don't realize you're not alone until a low, growling curse cuts through the silence.
Hunching over the copier is none other than Mr. Price himself. The low light glints off a silver watch band, encouraging the eye to a pair of thick forearms exposed by rolled shirt sleeves. You get a whole second of the uninterrupted sight before he notices.
A silent alarm goes off, and you're hopeful the lack of light saves you: Please don't recognize me. Please don't recognize me. Please–
Mr. Price does not move, and his focus returns to the copier. "Didn't realize anyone else worked this late."
You're unsure if you're supposed to respond, but you need those notes. "I usually don't. I was finishing up…Is there–Is there something I can help with?"
He answers when you tiptoe closer. "Everything's coming out with streaks," He grumbles, fiddling with random panel doors that open into the machine's guts.
This is not your first battle with the cursed thing. "I can fix that."
"Can you, now." Price mutters, barely audible.
You swallow. You might be several pay levels lower, but you aren't a pushover. "Mr. Price, please let me try."
Again, he delays, but after an exasperated sigh, he concedes and slams a panel door shut.
After he steps back, you examine the failed jobs resting on the tray, then address the angry, blinking digital display. A few screens and taps later, you trigger the self-cleaning process and the machine whirs to life.
"All fixed?" Price asks, reminding you he's but a few steps behind you.
"We'll see," You move a short distance away, afraid if you stand any closer, it'll be enough for him to remember who you are and your dumb message. "It's self-cleaning. It will take two, three minutes, then produce a test print."
Price hums in acknowledgment, and then the glow of his phone screen illuminates his profile. You glance out of your periphery, almost relieved to see the steely expression on his face. Seems he really is a workaholic, taking advantage of any spare moment.
You lean against the supply cabinets and cross your feet at the ankles. You left your phone at your desk, so you settle for watching the copier hopefully fix itself.
Then, to your utter horror, Price says your name.
You look up without thinking.
"Thought I recognized you." He holds up his phone, and there you are, your profile picture in the workplace chat app.
You are going to murder Jordan. But first, you need to apologize.
"Mr. Price, I am so–"
Price cuts you off. "You're Kyle Garrick's assistant, yeah?"
Relief washes over you. Your message is forgotten. Definitely. All you are is an assistant. "Yes, sir."
With a hum, he pockets his phone, then steps forward to better see you. A hand plants itself on the counter, mere centimeters away. "You were at the meeting earlier."
"Yes, sir."
"Would explain the swift fix," He muses, and his gaze drags down you in a more than perfunctory look before meeting yours once more. "Normally, I'd use the copier in my office, but it's due for maintenance. Seems this one is, too."
He has his own copier? It would explain why I've never seen him in here, making his own copies since he apparently hates help.
"Guess so," You lick your lower lip, stomach flipping with nerves with how close Price stands. Between the proximity and the near darkness, it's all you can do to keep your imagination in check.
A cheerful beeping from the copier saves you. Price lingers a moment more, then returns to the printing tray as the machine spits out a test page.
Price chuckles, which you take to mean the issue is fixed. He restarts the delayed jobs. "Well done, love."
"It's nothing," You say quietly, rooted to where you lean.
A minute passes, and Price collects the first completed stack of papers. His brow furrows. "Think these are yours."
You finally push off the cabinets and venture closer, reaching for the notes. Only, he does not hand them over.
"Forgot Gaz prefers hard copies," Price murmurs.
Gaz?
"This is the kind of work I wish I had received from my past assistants."
If it was not the CEO speaking, you would be the defender of the voiceless, the fired employees of 141 past. If the man's gone through as many assistants as you think he has, he's the problem.
"You like working for Garrick?"
It feels like a trick question. From the outside, it appears he and Kyle like each other. For all of Price's talks on 'openness' and 'camaraderie,' he has his favorites, and your boss is one of them. Though that could be an act, and Price is actually looking for some kind of blemish on Kyle's record. Either way, you can be honest because you genuinely like Kyle.
"Mr. Garrick is a joy to work with." Anxiety flushes half of the English language and all creativity out of your brain.
Price huffs in amusement. "A joy to work with," He repeats. "That's all? You appeared quite friendly during the break."
The comment gives you pause, and you shove back through the day's events. The meeting, the break – was it because you simply straightened Kyle's tie? It's a harmless gesture, you think. No one's ever batted an eye before. You can't help but feel a little affronted. "That's because we are friends, sir. Kind of happens when you work for someone for nearly five years."
Price lifts the notes in a placating manner, then out to you. "No harm meant. It's nice to see, is all. I understand we struggle with retention."
An understatement for him. Your imaginary hackles lower. "We work well together."
Price smiles. "Clearly. And five years, eh? Should get something for that, I think."
Inwardly, you cringe. The last thing you need is another branded mug, t-shirt, or keychain. "That isn't necessary, sir."
"Nonsense. We've got to reward loyalty."
You stiffly nod, figuring it's worthless to protest. It makes sense why he's in charge. He's a steamroller when it comes to what he wants.
"Do you have somewhere to be? Someone waiting for you?"
In this context, a darkened office, alone with a man with the power to make or break your career, it's a borderline sinister question. At least, it should be, yet instead, all you feel is a brief thrill.
"No, sir."
"Then, how about that drink?"
Oh, god. "'That drink'?" You ask dumbly. You know exactly what he means.
He chuckles and sets his gaze on you again. It's heavy, somehow both a blanket around the shoulders and a cinder block to the chest.
"While you are a capable woman, I doubt achievin' world peace is within your power. But a drink? Think you can fit me into your schedule this evening?"
You will kill Jordan for the bet. Then Kyle will kill you for losing it. But do you really have a choice?
"Yes, sir."
"Please, after hours, call me John."
~~
Mr. Price's–John's bodyguards do not seem fazed when you meet them at the elevators. You watch John whisper something into the taller one's ear on the ride down, and the man hails a cab. Meanwhile, John ushers you out to a waiting town car, and the shorter guard takes the passenger seat.
When he takes the seat beside you, shuts the door, and drapes a big arm over the back of the seats, you think to fake an illness. A forgotten appointment. Something. Then he gives you another grin, a note of triumph in it, and the thoughts of escape vanish.
~~
Your salary affords you nice things like hardcover books, daily coffees, and frequent takeaway. And until ten seconds ago, you could count stylish yet comfortable office attire among said things. Yet, walking through the awning-covered entrance to an unmarked bar, you lose that delusion quickly. The bar's host lights up at the sight of Mr. Price, then openly examines you and the pencil skirt you thought was expensive.
"Welcome back, Mr. Price. Your usual table, I presume? Is this lovely creature your date?"
"Yes, and yes."
A firm, warm hand at the small of your back flexes. It's a silent suggestion: do not correct him. You don't.
A cocktail later, that same hand lands on your knee beneath the table.

“FEATURES” Acoustic Live Report
Yesterday, Hikaru was busy rehearsing for her upcoming acoustic live. Don't forget to tune in for today's live!! (Tweet by Hikaru | Tweet 2 by Hikaru) Following her first solo tour as freelance artist, Hikaru will be holding an acoustic live on March 17. It will be a live streaming concert so everyone can watch it. Hikaru will perform her songs from the album “FEATURES” ♪ Title: Stream LIVE “Hikaru Acoustic LIVE 2024 -FEATURES-” Date: March 17 (Sun)Time: 17:00~ Ticket sales start 🎫 2/10 0:00~ Ticket price: 3,500 (overseas credit cards accepted) Archive period: 7 days Link: https://musicchamp.page.link/PJByVDREEbTmdRf77 ※The ticket needs to be bought within the Music Champ app. Please download the app!
As always, I will do some live commenting as I watch the concert even though I am not too familiar with her new songs so I will probably not have a lot to say about them T_T Also not the biggest fan of an acoustic guitar-only accompaniment but that's a personal preference XD First things first, her shirt/blouse looks great, especially with the pearl necklace.
1.Flow: I recall not particularly liking the studio version. Can't say the acoustic arrangement has changed my opinion unfortunately. Still appreciate her vocals though. 2.Embrace: Very excited how this will turn out since I do enjoy the studio version quite a bit. Nice reverb effect. The verses sound amazing, obsessed with the way she sings the "mirai..." part. And the bridge with the “ai yueni…” is lovely. 3.Awe: "Embrace" and "Awe" back to back, YESSS! This honestly gets better every time I listen to it. Don't even mind when Hikaru gets a bit shouty because it works so well for this song. 4.Treasure: Meh... I'll admit that this doesn't do anything for me. Couldn't even remember listening to it before although I most definitely did. 5.Under the Rain: Ohhh, did not expect this song to make an appearance. Thought Hikaru would be focusing solely on her "Features" tracks for this acoustic live. Very happy. The chorus isn't my cup of tea but I love the melody in the verses. And the scene from the play will always be a personal favourite. Wow, the raspy voice Hikaru uses towards the end is pretty cool. Think this is my favourite rendition of the song so far. 6.Remain: Can't pinpoint what bothers me about the song but I am not a fan. 7.Escape: The acoustic version is better than the studio version I think. Not quite as chaotic. Still not my favourite. 8.Survivor: Feel quite nostalgic about Hikaru's first song as freelance artist. Solid performance. 9.奇跡/Kiseki: Still very fond of the melody during the instrumental section but the rest of the song is just okay I guess...Not even the lalala part works for me, it's a shame T_T

beauty on a budget
due to consumerism, several aesthetics/subcultures often promote certain products as “staples” or “necessities.” the idea that some products — especially those at prices not everyone can go out of there way to buy — are needed to belong in a community is stupid. if you would like to engage in the style associated with a specific aesthetic/subculture, but are unable to buy expensive products, here’s a guide you can use!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
fashion
thrift stores: an obvious choice for a relatively* cheap price (*relatively because some stores have been raising prices above what usual shoppers are comfortable with)
tips for thrifting: be patient & check every aisle; take glaces at the floor below racks to see if something is being hidden by an employee; keep in mind that you can modify what you buy; wash ALL clothes you buy before adding them to your wardrobe
target/walmart: if you sign up on their apps/websites, you can get access to coupons relating to their clothing departments & learn about sales
skincare + hair
TIP: keep in mind that everyone’s hair type and skin type is different; pay attention to what your hair and skin need
target/walmart: if you sign up on their apps/websites, you can get access to coupons relating to their beauty departments & learn about sales
walgreens/cvs: can be cheaper in comparison to supermarkets; signing up on their apps/websites can give you access to coupons & sales
tjmaxx/ross/marshalls: SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper in comparison to supermarkets & drugstores; contains k-beauty brands
skincare recommendations: cerave, cetaphil, store-brand products
hair recommendations: not your mother’s, dove, suave, ogx, aussi
makeup + nails
target/walmart: if you sign up on their apps/websites, you can get access to coupons relating to their beauty departments & learn about sales
walgreens/cvs: can be cheaper in comparison to supermarkets; signing up on their apps/websites can give you access to coupons & sales
tjmaxx/ross/marshalls: SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper in comparison to supermarkets & drugstores; contains k-beauty brands
makeup recommendations: e.l.f., wet n wild, maybelline, nyx
nail recommendations: KISS nails (each pack comes with a small tube of glue), essie, sally hansen, olive & june
fragrance
TIP: buy a body wash that matches a prominent scent note among you fragrances (ex: vanilla wash for strawberry poundcake and vanilla bean noel)
target/walmart: if you sign up on their apps/websites, you can get access to coupons relating to their beauty departments & learn about sales
bath & body works: a bit pricier, but signing up on their app/website can give access to coupons (XX% off, one product FREE or $X) and sales (all products in this category are $3-5)
tjmaxx/ross/marshalls: have a small fragrance section; either legit or dupes
fragrance recommendations: bodycology, philosophy (clearance store), beloved, dove, tree hut, body fantasies
do NOT use vaginal cleanser: the chemicals used in vaginal cleanser are harsh on the vagina’s PH level; furthermore, the vagina cleanses itself, so don’t waste money on something that harms your body

[Image Description: an Amazon listing for three seeming- hardbound books, a cream-colored one that says "Scrabble" on the spine, a pastel mauve that says "Monopoly", and a pastel olive that says "Clue". The listing is for one hundred and seventeen dollars and ninety-nine cents. End I.D]
I cannot think of anything I want less than pastel minimalist ~aesthetique~ board games for any price, yet Amazon insists on spamming my phone apps with ads for this constantly

Let your S(e)oul take you where you long to be - The Charlotte Theatre
pt 2 of my Seoul travelogue
August is high summer in Korea, actually a crazy month to see Phantom, but timings just lined up that way and also a part of me is just scared what if I put this off for so long and something comes up. 😬😬
Do check @fadinglandtragedy's very comprehensive ticketing and Korea travel post on what to expect, but I also will share some of my personal observations below!
About Charlotte Theatre
How to get there
Easy to find from the Jamsil subway station (just follow the arrows) but prepare for a maze if you are coming from the Lotte World Tower mall. The mall complex is HUGE. For the two days I was there, I had to go to the English-speaking info counter or ask the roaming guards — one of them was not even aware there's a theatre in the area. 😭 Actually, maybe the Naver maps app might provide more insight…
Tumblr media
Where to eat
The Charlotte Theatre has an in-house fancy restaurant and a nearby Angel-in-us cafe, which sells cakes and sandwiches. But if you're looking for a warm, filling meal, you're probably better off eating elsewhere.
Tip: There's a Lotte Mart B1-B2 of the Lotte World Tower mall, and you can take an early dinner at their food court or take out their boxed foods to heat at your accommodations later. They also slash off the prices of certain food late in the afternoon, so yay discounts!
Tumblr media
Note that after the evening show, you'll come out to a closed mall, and places in Seoul close early at night unless you're around the night market. I had to fend off with some ramen at the nearest convenience store on my first show day.
Ofc you can also eat at the mall proper, but the selections are not that wide. Also take note that Lotte World Tower mall is a luxury mall…
Where to hang out
If you've got time to burn and you just want to explore the area near the theatre, the Lotte World Tower area doesn't only have a mall, but also a famous amusement park, an aquarium, an observatory, a posh department store, underground shops, and a nearby lake (Seokchon Lake). The Lotte cinemas play the Phantom Korea ad on these gigantic monitors by the entrance - super impressive 👌. As for me, I shopped at Olive Young! As your girl would.
Dress code
I saw a lot of casual wear, actually! Jeans, sneakers, and even shorts. They don't seem strict. Just be presentable and absolutely no harm if you decide to wear a dress and something a bit more formal. I did see at least one cosplayer with a Victorian-inspired look.
Floors
The theatre has two levels of seats but the building itself has four floors in all (the seating is at the third and fourth). Make sure to go through all four! There's so much Phantom to see.
Second level seating
I can't speak for the first level, but I sat at the second level and there was hardly any leg room. You will really have to squeeze in and ask the occupants to please give way. I just did as the Seoullites do and said 잠시만요 (jamsimanyo) whenever I have to pass through.
Restroom
There are washrooms at the third (or second?) and fourth floor of the theatre with numerous cubicles. The fourth floor tends to be less crowded by virtue of being at a higher level I suppose.
Photo zones
1st floor - The rose and mask background and a digital casting board (the pink bear at the entrance is leaving after August)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2nd floor - The whole casting board
3rd floor - The Ghost mascot
Tumblr media
4th floor - Charlotte Theatre's restaurant and a smaller casting board
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The stairs are lined with Phantom masks and roses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Merchandise
First floor and third floor of the theatre, they charge 100 KRW for a paper bag, but it's not very sturdy. The brochure is thick and glorious and a MUST buy. If you're an enamel pin collector, there's a couple of Seoul exclusives. Then there's just phone stuff, shirts, towel, a mask, albums...idk I def preferred the ones at Blue Square 10 years ago.
Access
There's an escalator going to the second floor of the theatre but beyond that, you have to take the lift or take the stairs.
Waiting area
Just plop on one of the plush seats scattered around the theatre or chill by the tables.
Theatre etiquette
The usual, eating and drinking inside are not allowed and I wish I understand half of what the ushers are saying but you absolutely can't film the curtain call. The ushers will find you. (Not me, I saw someone did it).
Indoor temperature
Not sure what the weather is now but the theatre was like a sauna when I visited. I decided to go sleeveless on my second day (something that is not often seen among Koreans, they usually cover with a cute outerwear, but you do see it). Not sure how this will be in the fall months, but I def didn't need to wear a sweater or anything.
View from the second floor
People asked me why I didn't go for VIP tickets when I'm rarely in Seoul. It is because, my friend, I am a cheapskate and the tickets are really expensive. 😭😭😭😭 And I planned to see the show twice. There's also the fact that I'm not actually fluent in Korean, I pick up bits and pieces from watching Korean drama. 🤓 So I thought, I don't need to be close too much. I DID cave in and bought a set of binoculars, which I highly recommend if you wanna zoom in to the acting. The theatre does rent out binoculars but you'll need a Korean number. :/
That said, it's a great view even if you sit at the back and you can see the chandelier closely and make out Jeon Dong-seok's silhouette on the angel and think, "Good God he IS tall…This thing can hold his weight, right?"
Just be mindful of your height, if you are short like me, maybe don't take the first row of the balcony coz you'll have to tilt your neck to look over the railing or move in front and you might get called out for it.
When I saw my non-Phantom show, I was taking photos of the theatre (Seoul Arts Centre) before the show started and I think the guy behind me got concerned that I'd be doing this often ;_; so he asked me (in Korean) if I could please lean against my seat. Annnd ever since I tried to keep glued to my chair and got scared to even stretch my neck lol.
After the show
Just retrace your way to the subway or follow your maps app. Do not be like me and just blindly follow where the audiences are going coz that led me to an underground parking lot at close to 12 AM in the morning and I had to run back up the stairs to chase the last train. 👍
Bring an umbrella
It rains now and then and there's a bit of a walk to the station and not all foot paths are covered. Again, do not be like me.
Stage door
To this date, the closest to a "stage-door" experience (the 'way home') is after a Cho Seung-woo show (provided it's not stormy). Because the actor does come out to the parking lot to briefly greet and wave at fans before going home (by car or a motorbike — yes, he'll pass and wave at people even from a motorbike). That is the full extent of it - no signatures or selfies. I think it's understandable as covid is still a real threat. As for the other actors, I only see them rushing out, ducking, and bowing (and for Song Eun-hye's case, putting on a helmet and hopping on a kickboard 😄).
Tumblr media
Prepare to wait for 45 minutes for CSW to come out though.
Any questions? I'd be happy to try to answer!
Actual review next!!

what is your all time favorite soup to make? i will accept two answers. favorite being the easiest and quickest tasty soup you can through together, or favorite being one that's a bit more involved. i love a good soup
MUNDAY : ASK DILLY ABOUT SPECIAL INTERESTS.
for quick and easy, there's a few options. open up your preferred food delivery app, find the closest vietnamese restaurant, and order the pho of your choice. that's my go-to.
but if you're insisting on doing some actual cooking, you can make my other go-to. it does not have a name, but we'll just call it refrigerator soup. it's not really quick exactly, but it is simple enough where you can throw it together and walk away for a good amount of time. here's how we do that:
there's no fixed ingredient list here, but it usually consists of whatever vegetables are in my kitchen and are no longer pretty and fresh enough to eat in anything else. it almost always consists of carrots, celery, onions, tomatoes, and sometimes potatoes. maybe garlic too because i like garlic in everything, but it's optional. now, throw everything in a roasting pan with some oil (olive or avocado oil is nice, but i've been using canola lately because it's what i currently have), some salt and pepper, and optionally, whatever spices you have. i almost always have cumin or paprika on hand. roast them for about an hour or until they're fork tender and fragrant. once they're done, throw them in a giant pot with water or stock (amount will depend entirely on how you like the consistency and you can add more lately if need; for now, just do at least enough to cover your veggies). this is when i like to add herbs if i have any, and i usually do, so i'll put a few bay leaves and some rosemary or thyme. boil away for however long you want. i'll do at least 30 minutes to an hour, but it honestly does not matter a whole lot. you can boil the fuck out of this soup and it will be totally fine. once you're either satisfied or impatient with it, remove your herbs, turn the heat off and get a blender. i have an immersion blender, which is helpful, but you can totally do this with a regular standing blender (it's just a bit more tedious). now you blend the fuck out of the vegetables until it's nice and smooth. add a little extra olive oil on top when you serve, and there's your refrigerator soup. not quick, but very good for a lazy person who doesn't like to measure things (me).
now for a more involved soup, i'm gonna go with bone broth. it's very involved in the sense that you can literally cook this for over 24 hours, and really you should if you want it to be impeccable. i do not have that kind of patience so i rarely make it, but here's a good guide on how to if you're interested. if i do make this, it's usually with chicken bones because i always have chicken bones in my freezer. (i throw them in there every time i debone chicken because they are useful for various things and i hate wasting!) but you can also use any kind you want really. chicken feet may sound weird but they are extremely good to use for soup because they have a lot of collagen and you can get them at a fairly decent price compared to other cuts at most butcher shops. apple cider vinegar is also an important addition to help break down all the collagen, but i assume any vinegar will work for this. try not to add too much otherwise it will affect the flavour. i think most people make this for health benefits, but i am someone who does not care about that and am making it purely for enjoyment. you can eat this plain or use it as a base for so many things. it makes a beautiful base for ramen, french onion, or chicken noodle soup! and you can also store it in the freezer for future use anytime.

an email I received from woolies.
Tumblr media
"Dear [consumer],
I am writing to thank you for shopping at Woolworths and to update you on the cost of groceries.
It has been my privilege as CEO to work together with our team to serve you over the past 8+ years. Supermarkets are an amazing place to work, as they are part of all of our everyday lives and we get feedback in real time - from customers, friends and family. We then have the opportunity to act on this feedback to try and make the grocery shopping experience better.
In terms of being better, we recognise that our customers continue to be under material cost of living pressures, with rising housing and energy costs. We know we need to do more to help, especially as we go into Spring, Summer and the Christmas festive season.
We understand the importance of managing the cost of your grocery basket and I’m pleased to be able to report that food inflation is now on average less than 2% at Woolworths. Over the past 3 months, the price of a typical shopping basket has declined by ~1%. Here’s how we’re providing increased value when you shop with us:
Expanding our range of Everyday Low Price products and making it even easier to see the Cost Per Unit to enable easy price comparisons
Continuing our Seasonal Prices Dropped (with 400+ price reductions for Spring) and Weekly Specials (with around 6000 on special every week)
An important new initiative - we are starting to reduce Shelf Prices - look out for our new Lower Shelf Price tickets and expect this program to grow over time.
It's one thing to have good prices but you need to be able to find them and we have an increasing range of new tools and services including:•
Best Unit Price search filter and the ability to add your favourite products to your Watch List in the Woolworths app to be alerted when they are on special
Everyday Extra, with 10% off your shop once per month and 2x points every time you shop
Our Own brands, on average 30% cheaper than the equivalent branded product [- this is literally just called economies of scale and leads to Woolworths being an even bigger monopoly (/duopoly with Coles).]
And (if you can’t find what you are looking for), you can always “Ask Olive” when using the Woolworths app.
Outside of working hard to provide you greater value, we’re proud to be the official fresh food partner of the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams. It’s been wonderful to see the support across the community for our athletes and we’d like to thank you for helping us raise more than $850,000 for our Paralympic team.
As we reach our 100 Year milestone, many things have changed since the first Woolworths store was opened in Pitt Street Mall in Sydney on 5 December 1924. However the importance of service has stayed the same. [- yea a basket of goods (bread, milk, sugar, butter, potatoes, tea) around 1924 was between $14 and $41 (in 2023 value) and now in 2024 it's $100.12. And that's excluding sugar in the 2024 price because the amount (e.g., 1kg, 2lbs, 3 bags) wasn't given in the source material (https://guides.slv.vic.gov.au/whatitcost/groceries)]
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you together with our amazing team. As this is my last week as the CEO of Woolworths, I would like to introduce you to Amanda Bardwell, our new CEO. Please provide her with the same support, feedback and opportunity to serve you better.
With gratitude
Brad Banducci"

Day 8 Meeting US Expats
Today's plan centred around meeting, in the end, two women from the US who are living as expats in Portugal with their husbands. This came about because I posted about my trip on an expat FB page and asked if anyone would like to connect. Crystal (52) was one of four women who responded. Crystal invited her friend Brenda (55). We met at the very popular The Chicken Tavern, not for chicken, but for fish!! I had thought about walking the one hour to get there but it was drizzling with rain, so I tested the recommended Bolt (Uber's competition here) rideshare app and it worked a treat. For a small €3.68, instead of €10+ with Uber I arrived dry and ahead of schedule. Depending on what bus route, it was going to cost nearly the same on the bus, plus a bit of walking.
Prices for food, drinks etc in Portugal are certainly cheaper than any of the places I visited in Europe two years ago, and less than the cost in Australia. This is one of the draw cards for expats, as supported by Crystal and Brenda. Crystal said she would have worked up to another 10 years in the US to retire there. They were also happy to escape the current political debacle in the US between two old white male dudes. At least there were no uncomfortable moments about politics between us.
The Chicken Tavern was very busy for a Monday, apparently it's the same every day. For €14 we got the lunch set, bread, olives, pickled veg, choice of mains (I very happily had Crystal’s recommended monk fish skewers, as the couple at Dona Barca said it was like crayfish - not quite!) with veg, salad, chips, rice, drink (I tried green wine for the first time and it was quite delicious) and coffee. We spent two hours introducing ourselves and catching up about moving to a foreign country (both couples sold all their belongings and arrived with suitcases). I also asked how they sourced their rental accommodation (both said site unseen although Crystal had a friend who was local do an inspection) and if they would purchase (Crystal said probably no as they might move around and to other countries), visa processes, lifestyle, social connections etc.
Sadly Crystal is heading back to the US tomorrow to change her residential address from one State to another - I think it's so she can retain dual citizenship once she attains citizenship in Portugal, or maybe it was something to do with US State taxes, or maybe it was both, the wine may have affected my brain at this stage. She's not returning until 4th May, the day before I leave. I made it really obvious to Brenda that I would love to join the next monthly "Ladies Who Lunch" gathering.
Crystal has just bought a car, so I asked for a ride home, and when there was a detour to a supermarket I took the chance to get her opinion on the green wine purchase and also picked up some more Pastel de nata and a sweet potato pastry treat.
The afternoon was spent walking 30 minutes to Aqua, the local mall/DFO and I did make some clothing purchases there and also spent ages in the supermarket. There's just so much stuff, including quinoa bread which tastes so good with goats cheese!
I then ended the day with Body Balance at the gym, pretty much all in Portuguese. I could recognise some numbers, ie 4, 3, 2, 1! I'm still perplexed by the strong accent (Germanic like), but there was also some softer sounding words.

Redmi A3: Budget-Friendly Phone with Big Features
Tumblr media
Budget smartphone users, hello! With an exclusive Xiaomi’s Redmi brand is getting ready to release the Redmi A3 in India. In the competitive budget smartphone market, this innovative and intriguing handset is expected to bring remarkable capabilities at a price range that is accessible. Leaked data provides an enticing look at what the Redmi A3 has to offer, even if an official launch date has not yet been revealed. To assist you determine whether this phone would be the ideal fit for you, let’s examine the main characteristics that have surfaced.
Entertainment Multimedia Canvas
According to rumors, the Redmi A3 would have a large 6.71-inch HD+ display (1650 x 720 pixels). This large screen makes for an immersive visual experience, making it perfect for online surfing, gaming, and watching movies. More significantly, the Redmi A3 differs from many low-cost phones because to its 90Hz refresh rate. Scrolling and animations seem very smooth as a result of the higher refresh rate, making the experience substantially more fluid. The 90Hz display will make your experience more enjoyable whether you’re playing fast-paced games or just browsing social media.
The display should come with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection for enhanced piece of mind. The Redmi A3 is now more resistant to normal wear and tear as the screen is strengthened against scratches and small drops.
Functioning: Prepared for Daily Jobs
Most likely, the MediaTek Helio G36 CPU will power the Redmi A3. The dependable performance of this octa-core chipset is intended for daily operations. The Helio G36 should be able to easily manage most everyday tasks, like as online surfing, social networking app use, and productivity tool use, even if it may not be ideal for intense gaming.
In addition to 3GB RAM + 64GB storage, the phone may include 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. This lets consumers choose the optimum configuration for their requirements and budget. A nice feature that offers plenty of room for storing images, movies, and other things is the microSD card slot for expanded storage, which can hold up to 1TB of data.
Mobile Camera Capture
An 8MP main sensor and a secondary sensor (perhaps for depth information) are expected to be part of the Redmi A3’s dual back camera setup. In comparison to high-end phones, the 8MP sensor’s megapixel count may appear low, but it should be sufficient for taking respectable pictures in favorable lighting. AI capabilities may also improve picture quality and provide a variety of artistic shooting options.
An auxiliary 5MP camera on the front is anticipated to support both casual selfies and video calls.
Connect All Day with Durable Power
With a large 5000mAh battery, the Redmi A3 is one of the most anticipated devices. By reducing the frequency of visits to the power socket, this high-capacity battery guarantees longer use on a single charge. The Redmi A3’s battery is expected to please everybody, whether of whether they are a casual gamer, social media fanatic, or someone who just wants their phone to last all day.
In order to ensure that you can recharge your gadget when necessary, it is also anticipated that the phone would have a 10W charger.
Design and Bonuses
Midnight Black, Olive Green, and Lake Blue are the expected color possibilities for the Redmi A3. Bright colors provide a personal touch to the phone while accommodating a wide range of tastes.
One fast and safe method to unlock your phone is supposedly the fingerprint sensor, which is placed conveniently on the side. In addition, a dedicated microSD card slot for increased storage capacity and a 3.5mm headphone socket for wired audio communication are planned.
The cost and the availability
Given its budget-friendly orientation, the Redmi A3 is anticipated to be a fairly reasonable alternative, even if an official pricing hasn’t been disclosed yet. Flipkart is the only place to get it, so prospective customers should monitor the e-commerce site for information about launch dates and promotions.
Will the Redmi A3 be affordable?
Redmi A3 seems to be a great option for those on a tight budget based on the information that has leaked. This well-rounded bundle includes a huge 90Hz display, dependable performance, a long-lasting battery, and expandable storage. It should be enough to record ordinary occasions even when the camera technology isn’t the best.
The Redmi A3 is definitely a phone to take into consideration if you’re searching for one that gives cost priority over important features. Keep checking back since its formal launch is soon.

Smile Direct Club customers 'gutted' and 'left in lurch'
Chantelle Jones
By Lora Jones
Business reporter, BBC News
Customers of Smile Direct Club have told the BBC how they feel “left in the lurch”, “outraged” and “gutted” after the remote dentistry firm shut down.
Chantelle Jones, 32, paid a total of £1,800 to straighten her teeth before her wedding next year. While her top teeth had aligned, she was waiting for new moulds for her bottom teeth.
“I’m not sure if I’m going to get any money back,” she said.
Dentists have also expressed “great concern” for stranded patients.
Late on Friday, it emerged that a last-minute rescue attempt for Smile Direct Club had failed as the company was weighed down by debt.
“I found out in a TikTok video that they’d gone bankrupt. I think it’s an absolute disgrace how they have treated customers,” says Chantelle from Churchdown in Gloucestershire.
“The worst thing about it is… the app has not closed down but when I click on the chat button it’s not there. They seem completely uncontactable and I’m just left in the lurch.”
Oliver, a photographer from Kent, spent £799 with Smile Direct Club just under two weeks ago in the hope of straightening his smile.
“I’m gutted. It’s a fair chunk of money and I feel a bit numb about it really,” he says.
Oliver
Founded in 2014, the orthodontics company styled itself as a disruptor to the “bricks-and-mortar” dental industry.
In traditional dentistry, “train-track” braces and clear aligners are fitted by dentists and orthodontists themselves, or a trained orthodontic therapist, after an in-person consultation.
Many customers were drawn to US-based Smile Direct Club because of lower prices, and the fact that they typically take the moulds for their aligners themselves at home.
The Nashville-based firm debuted on the Nasdaq stock exchange in 2019 and it was once valued at about $8.9bn (£7bn).
But it failed to turn a profit and in late September the firm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US. At the time it had nearly $900m worth of debt, according to Fortune magazine.
And late on Friday the firm said it had made the “incredibly difficult decision to wind down its global operations”.
It said that any orders that have not yet been made or shipped have been cancelled, and apologised for any inconvenience caused. It recommended that if customers in the US, UK and elsewhere want to carry on with their treatment, they should get in touch with a local dentist.
There would be more information on refunds, it said, as the bankruptcy process determines next steps.
It has angered some customers, however, by saying that the “lifetime smile guarantee” it previously offered was no longer valid, while those with payment plans set up are expected to continue making payments.
Smile Direct Club dentistry firm shuts down
Dentists warn of damage from braces ordered online
Teah from the West Midlands told the BBC that she had paid a £135 deposit for her aligners about two weeks ago.
The treatment, which typically takes about four to six months, cost £1,739, which Teah was planning to pay back using the Smile Direct Club payment plan.
She says she feels “outraged and anxious” about the fact she is still being asked to make payments.
“It is not right that I [am expected to] pay such a large sum of money even though I didn’t receive any treatment or merchandise from them.”
The BBC has contacted Smile Direct Club for comment on Chantelle, Oliver and Teah’s experiences.
What should Smile Direct Club customers do?
Lisa Webb, consumer law expert at the organisation Which?, said that many customers would feel “adrift” due to the company going bust.
She pointed out that where refunds would be available, they will be handed by liquidators. “But customers will be at the back of a long queue of creditors so this is unlikely to amount to much, if anything at all,” she said.
She recommended that anyone in the UK who is still waiting for products, and has not had their order cancelled and paid via credit card, could also try to claim their money back via Section 75 under the Consumer Credit Act.
Dental bodies have also spoken out after the firm’s collapse.
The British Dental Association (BDA) said that it had raised concerns about the company offering plastic aligners remotely and the potential risk of misdiagnosis with regulators.
“Dentists are left to pick up the pieces when these providers offer wholly inappropriate treatment,” said BDA chair Eddie Crouch.
“It shouldn’t take a bankruptcy to protect patients from harm. It requires decent laws and effective regulation.”
Getty Images
And Anjli Patel of the British Orthodontic Society suggested that the firm was avoiding responsibility for customers’ treatment in a way that was “nothing short of scandalous”.
It is calling on watchdogs in the UK to ensure any firm providing orthodontics directly to patients in the UK are held to high standards.
Smile Direct Club vigorously defended its practices throughout and said consistently that customers’ treatments were reviewed by licensed professionals, while risks were listed as well.
In the statement on its website, the company said that it had “improved more than two million smiles and lives”.
But that is no consolation to those who now find themselves out of pocket with incomplete treatment.
Both Chantelle and Oliver regret being attracted by Smile Direct Club’s cheaper prices.
“I should have gone to my own dentist. Although it was more than double the amount of money – I was quoted £4,500 – I would have rather paid that looking back in hindsight,” says Chantelle.
Neither are hopeful of getting their retainers or their money back.
“I went cheap, and the whole phrase ‘buy cheap buy twice’ comes to mind,” says Oliver, adding that he was asking his bank for help and wanted to “fight his corner”.
