5 Of The Best Products for Removing Makeup
Trilogy Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm
Trilogy are one of my favourite skincare brands, they do so many beautiful products which are really kind to the skin and this product is no exception. Not a oil or a cream this makeup remover is of a balm consistency and is super effective at removing makeup. From waterproof eyeliner, mascara, long-wearing lipstick and heavy foundation this breaks up every last spot of makeup, is gentle on the eyes and leaves skin feeling supple and hydrated.
Boscia Makeup Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil
One of the few natural/organic cleansing oils which manages to get milky, the Boscia Makeup Break Up Cool Cleansing Oil is specifically dedicated to makeup removal. It’s effective and doesn’t leave a film on the skin (like many do) The cooling sensation may be irritating to those with sensitive skin and it can sometimes irritate the eyes because of this effect.
NUDE Skincare Perfect Cleansing Oil
This product was my first ever introduction to cleansing oils (and the NUDE brand) and I’m so glad that it was. Although the brand changes the name more often than I can keep up with, this cleansing oil effectively removes makeup without drying out the skin.
Bioderma Sensibio h2o Micellar Water
My all-time favourite skincare product/cleanser/makeup remover, Bioderma holds cult status when it comes to micellar waters. Many brands try and make their own versions but in my opinion nothing comes close to the original, created by Bioderma. This light, refreshing and water-like product is literally like a magnet for makeup, dirts and oil on the skin. Use it with a cotton pad (micellar technology only works with cotton) wipe your face and be amazed at how much stuff accumulates in your pores. It’s my favourite product for double cleansing and combined with the trilogy is the ultimate combination for removing makeup.
Lancome Bi-Facial Eye Makeup Remover
This is one of the most popular eye makeup removers to date, one of the first popular products with bi-phase technology this eye makeup remover isn’t my favourite nor one that I reach for on a regular basis but if Bioderma won’t get your long-wearing liner or mascara off (personally something I’ve never had an issue with) this is your best bet. It’s very effective without the need to continuously scrub your eyes till the point they are red.

Brand Highlight (And Perhaps a Eulogy...) : NUDE Skincare (UPDATED)
I intend to write about my skincare story quite soon, but first, perhaps preemptively, I need to write about a brand that is close to my heart: NUDE Skincare. It has very recently come to the attention to NUDE lovers that the brand has been discontinued from Sephora--which had exclusive rights to the brand--as well has disappeared from international suppliers such as Space.NK. Their usually very-active instagram and facebook pages have been quiet for nearly a month, and there has been no word--official or otherwise--what has happened the brand (and so suddenly, two new products have been launched within the past six weeks).
The Death Squeeze of a much loved product....
While I have all sorts of brands in my skincare arsenal, NUDE is probably the brand that is most represented. This was not intentional, but the results of sampling, testing, and consistently good results with my reactive skin. Their Perfect Cleanse Omega Jelly--which is a gel-to-oil texture--is my very favorite cleanser of ever, while their Clarifying Cleansing Oil is not far behind. Both of these cleansers keep my skin clean and unclogged, yet not over stripped or dry, which I’ve found is absolutely key to maintaining happy skin. I’ve never had such success with cleansers, and the Omega Jelly is certainly one of the products I recommend to friends the most. Other brand highlights include the Fizzy Detox Powder Wash--which smells of funnel cakes and remains to this day one of only two scrubs I’m willing to use--and their much touted Rescue Oil (unfortunately, not pictured here) which is basically delicious skin food in a bottle.
A bit of a NUDE hoard. Seen here: 3 bottles of omega cleansing jelly (one that is being milked for its contents and backups), Fizzy Detox Powder Wash, Clarifying Cleansing Oil, the Miracle Mask (which contains both AHAs and hyaluronic acid), and various serum and oil samples.
NUDE Skincare was founded in 2007--very much in an era when beating skin into submission with harsh foamy cleansers and oil-free moisturizers was still considered the norm for treating breakout-prone skin. The founders, Ali Hewson and Bryan Meehan, started the company with a vision of ethical sourcing and proper skin nutrition--largely organic and vegan (though the brand does not claim to be vegan as some of their ingredients sourced may have been tested on animals in the past; i personally find this an admirable if unnecessary distinction). They are--were ?--a brand that were of their time, and seem to have left far far too early.
It’s difficult to articulate the depth and intimacy between a woman and her favorite skin cleanser--if she’s ever so lucky to find The One. Omega Jelly Cleanser: I love you.
As it is revealed what has happened to this brand, I will update this post. I have inquiries out desperately trying to get more info (so far, the brand has been completely mum).
UPDATE as of 2/27: I spoke to a Sephora manager last night, and she informed me that NUDE had been bought back by it’s original owners from LVMH (who bought 70% controlling stake in the brand back in 2011; LVMH has also owned Sephora since 1997). While this bit of information offers a glimmer of hope as to the future of the brand, it is based on nothing more than what this one employee said. I can not find a single press release. According to the LVMH website, NUDE Skincare has only 30 employees--which may account for the silence on social media, as we do not know the status of these jobs. I’ll continue to post any substantial update as i learn more !

BEAUTY BOX: Sephora PLAY December 2015
While I was hoping for some holiday glitz and glam in my December boxes, there wasn't a lot actually delivered in the end. Sephora PLAY!, however, did managed to come through with some good quality skincare and makeup samples to wrap up their first launch quarter.
I used a NUDE skincare set a while back last year when I felt the urge to try all natural luxury products, and while most of the products I tried weren't right for combination skin, I appreciated the really high quality and luxurious ingredients, especially on their more concentrated serums and creams. Sometimes these little oil or serum samples in these subscription boxes can be amusingly tiny, so I REALLY appreciate the fact that Sephora included seven individual samples of the Advanced Renewal Serum so you can get a full week's application. I don't know why, but it just seems so considerate! Like, they know that one little bubble of serum is not going to cut it, so they hook you up with a bit more. It's nice; I like it.
Next we have a couple of good skincare selections, including Fresh's Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil, which I've been wanting to try for ages now. I'm still trying to figure out where and how to incorporate oils into my routine, however—I'm thinking they might need to be a nighttime only application thing, maybe before night cream but after essence/serum, maybe? To be continued...
And given my love for exfoliation, you'd think I'd be pumped about some Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion, but that kind of micro-level scrubbing has never really been my jam. I might give it a go just to see how it does, since I've gotten it in several boxes before and not tried it. Could be the beauty box gods trying to test and guide me again, y'know?
Makeup, makeup and more makeup—give me all the makeup you got, Sephora. As far as I'm concerned, one can never have too many shimmery, sparkly new Smashbox Full Exposure shades (seriously, too perf) or long-wearing Makeup For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof black eyeliner in sizes perfect for travel and trial. I think the makeup bits might be my favorite part of the Sephora PLAY! Box; they’re always so damn good.
Finally, there's Flowerbomb from Viktor & Rolf. This was one of my first forays back into the world of fine fragrance, and it's a new classic for those of us who want something light and floral but also not too floofy and old ladyish. That said, I have a whole full-size bottle of it from a few years ago, so this is a repeat for me.
Side note: As much as I love the Sephora PLAYbook, the technical scientific illustrations in the December issue are more than a little hilarious to me. Like, I'm pretty sure that a polypeptide or Omega 9 fatty acid has a bit more detail than a sketchy Adobe Illustrator brush can convey? But that’s just me.
Final Score: 4/6
Another consistent, solid box from our friends at Sephora, which pleases me to see so far after only being live for four months and really struggling on that first box back in September. It seems like only yesterday we were losing our minds over the rumblings and rumors of a Sephora subscription box and it has finally really and truly been living up to that initial expectation.
ROI: 190%
All of the Sephora PLAY! boxes I’ve received to date have been pretty close to double my ROI, which is excellent for a $10 box. This one is definitely the highest-value box from the program overall, with plenty of good-sized samples of some pretty pricey products.
Rating: Pretty Great
Even with a repeat and a no-go, I’m still a Sephora PLAY! fan. Part of me wishes they would do a makeup only box, since I already get so many skincare products in my other subscriptions (and need to try to cut back tbh), but I’m sticking around to see what they can bring in 2016.

Review: Sephora Favorites Cleansing Ritual To Go
Review: Sephora Favorites Cleansing Ritual To Go
Oops, I did it again. I bought another Sephora favorites kit. I needed this one though. I ran out of face wash while on the west coast, and I’m still here for another week. So I popped into Sephora to pick up the Sephora Favorites Cleansing Ritual To Go set so I could sample a few new washes, and get a replacement of one I already adore. Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser: I haven’t used this one…

This cleansing oil makes me really happy
I jumped on the cleansing oil bandwagon about a year ago, and it actually took me this long to finish my ginormous bottle of Shu Uemura. (You might think $81 is a lot to spend on a cleanser, but not having to think about buying more for 52 or so weeks makes it totally worthwhile.) So when it was time to replenish my stock, I shopped around, read reviews and ultimately purchased NUDE Skincare’s Perfect Cleanse Nourishing Cleansing Oil.
At $36 for a significantly smaller bottle, it may not have the same bang for the buck, but it makes up for it in other ways. First, I love the faint almond-y scent, and it’s a bit thicker than the Shu Uemura. It is made with a blend of omega-rich meadowfoam and jojoba oils, which are great for strengthening the skin’s barrier, which in turn improves hydration and resistance to irritation. You apply it to dry skin with dry hands and rub it in before adding a bit of water to transform the oil to a milky texture. The directions say to use two to three pumps, but my skin drinks this cleanser up and I like a bit more “slip,” so I use closer to four.
At this rate I’ll be needing another bottle rather soon, so what are your favorite cleansing oils?

DFW Beauty Bombshell: Alex Small
Name & Age:
Alex Small, 21
Profession:
SMU student, fashion blogger
A little background:
As someone who is in love with fashion and beauty, starting my blog Small 4 Style in 2011 was the perfect outlet for my obsession. I have one more semester at SMU to finish my finance degree and fashion media minor. My goal is to become a buyer.
Favorite thing to do in the DFW?
Going to fashion events that seem to be always going on in Dallas is the best. I like to discover fun new stores, restaurants and places to hang out. I also love shopping and catching up with friends when I’m not studying or blogging.
Any beauty regimens you'd like to share with our readers?
When it comes to makeup, I feel like I’ve tried it all. I tend to splurge on eye shadows, face powders, and under-eye concealers. For foundation and mascara, Covergirl and Rimmel products work just as well as the expensive stuff. I’ve also fallen in love with my Clarisonic! It’s definitely worth the investment because it’s been the best thing for my skin. I also use Nude ProGenius oil from Sephora on my face at night and eye cream before bed. Once a week, I indulge in a bubble bath, deep condition my hair, and do a face mask.
Favorite DFW beauty brands and/or beauty related services?
Polished has great mani-pedi deals for members and the atmosphere is really welcoming. Robby from Ulta at Preston and Forest has been doing my hair for the past 7-ish years and I love him!
What are some of your favorite local boutiques?
Shop September and Piermarini are two of my favorites in Snider Plaza. Edo Popken has amazing menswear. I think Front Door Fashion is also pretty awesome. I also can’t resist a good deal at Nordstrom Rack or something with bows and sparkles from Kate Spade.
If you could have dinner with any local DFW woman, who would it be? Why?
That’s such a tough question because I’ve met so many extraordinary fashion people in Dallas over the years. I would love to have dinner with a group of Dallas women: Yvonne Crum, Lisa Petty and Dawn Mellon. They are three of the most special ladies to me in Dallas and I know that we could talk for hours.

Washing your face just got a lot more fun (and better for your skin)
It’s fair to say I’m more into probiotics than most, simply because these happy little “good” bacteria have been key for making my stomach a lot less irritable. The relief from my stomach issues was just the beginning, and I saw the skin benefits with my own eyes after trying TULA. I’m a total convert now, and not a day goes by without treating my body to probiotics both inside and out.
I’m by no means claiming to have discovered the next trend in beauty, as probiotic skincare has been around for a while. NUDE Skincare was among the first lines to infuse their products with “good” bacteria in an effort to maintain balance on the skin, and I distinctly recall falling for the brand when it first launched many moons ago. Well, NUDE is still going strong, and I’m pretty excited about their latest cleanser offering, Detox Brightening Fizzy Powder Wash (because every word in its name appeals to me).
Before I even get to the wonderful roster of ingredients, the formulation of this gentle cleanser is a real standout. It comes out of the bottle as a powder, but upon the addition of water it becomes an effervescent foam that tickles your skin with little bubbles.
This cleanser delivers softer, more radiant skin in an instant thanks to a combination of dead-cell-dissolving enzymes and natural seeds that gently exfoliate without scratching or irritating the skin. The powder also packs a powerful brightening punch courtesy of multiple vitamin C-rich ingredients, including lemon and lime extracts, Brazilian acerola and the skincare staple ascorbic acid. NUDE managed to coat each and every grain of this powder-based wash with omega-rich oils that help hydrate and strengthen the skin as it washes away makeup, oil and anything else you do not want on your skin.
And, of course, there are the aforementioned probiotics, which help balance, protect and soothe the skin, which sounds pretty similar to what they’ve been proven to do for tummies. (And if you’re one of the millions of women who deal with gastric distress, you best check out my new blog, IBS Is Not BS.)
And with the holiday season fast approaching, this cleanser’s detox benefits put it at the top of my skincare wish list!
