With limited res fabric, I only lined the hood and the visible areas of the collar. Also it with it only as 1 layer of fabric, it will be less hot on the con floor. I added buttons for it to snap to the dress and for the shoulder cape to snap to the jacket, allowing it all to sit in the right place while wearing it.

For the new jacket, I started with a similar pattern to the jacket and then modified the front and back pattern for the new shape. The arms are tubes, so I didn't make a pattern for them.

Ezio Tunic/Dress part 5

After sewing the dress together, I cut out and sewed the pieces of the flaps on. I put in a zipper in the back and buttons on both shoulders. From previous experience, the cape drags on the jacket, so I put in buttons for the jacket to keep it from moving from the weight of the shoulder cape and other belts and things Ezio has.

After making the mock up and fine tuning the adjustments, I cut out all the pieces, including a lining layer all in white cotton sateen. I then pinned and sewed all of the pieces together.

Here are the patterns of the flaps that while wearing the mock up, I was able to determine where I wanted the flaps to land on me. I also decided to add pockets big enough for my phone for practicality of wearing this during a convention.

Ezio Auditore Tunic/dress part 2

After making the pattern, I made a quick mock up out of muslin to test fit the shapes and measurements and make adjustments for the lengths and mark how long I wanted the flaps so that it achieved the look from the game.

Ezio Auditore Tunic Part 1

If you guessed that I was going to make a tunic, close but not quite. Since it is hot in a convention hall, I decided not to make sleeves and lower the collar and make a slitted dress.

The first step is take a class on pattern making at Mood Fabrics and then modify a typical dress pattern.

I forgot to take pictures of the first set of flaps before I took it apart. Just pretend the first picture had a piece mirrored. Or like the 2nd picture had the back piece. I used the fabric from these for the new flaps.

So I know in the game and in historical clothing he would have had a tunic underneath his jacket. But I am also aware that I will be wearing it in a hot packed convention hall. So in the first version, I tried making this into a skirt since only the bottom half of his tunic was visible under the jacket. The bug problem was that the skirt did not have enough structure and the small belt at the waist moved around and was flexible so the flaps would end up moving around and not sitting correctly.

Stay tuned to see how I fixed it the 2nd time around.

The one piece that I kept from version one of my Ezio costume was this shoulder cape. Previously it was attached by safety pins. This time I sewed on large snap buttons to the jacket.

I used a measuring tape from my neck to where I wanted it to end and then transferred that from to a poster board for a pattern. Then I transferred it to fabric and sewed it together.

Cosplay glow up from my first pauldron I made in 2017 to my current pauldron. In 2017, I thought I would be able to carve the pattern out of foam, which I couldn't. So I tried papier mache, and to sculpt the pattern, which didn't really work. It doesn't stick very well to foam. Foam clay is so much better.

Ezio Auditore Pauldron Part 2

I applied 3 coats of silver Angelus leather paint to get the metallic finish. Then, I used watered down black acrylic paint and a shop rag to highlight the details and weather it. For the belt strap, I used a strip of canvas for stiffness with a layer of faux leather sewn over it and I hot glued a belt buckle I used on version 1 of my costume. Then scoring the foam and strap, I used a lot of hot glue to attach the strap to the pauldron.

Ezio Auditore Pauldron Part 1

Starting with reference photos, I created a paper pattern and traced and cut it out of 5mm EVA foam for the base structure and foam clay for the details, similar to the bracers.

For the base structure it took a few sheets of 5mm foam and I also cut a foam disc to create the raised circular detail. Having learned from the bracers, I first shaped the pauldron before adding the foam clay details. I rolled many snakes of foam clay and using water attached it to the base structure. After heat sealing the foam, I used Kwik Seal to smooth over any gaps, using water to make it smooth. Then I used 3 layers of Flexbond for sealant.
