I slowly stepped out into the deep night, the pre-dawn cold in the air chilling my body unexpectedly. "Hui Fei Niang Niang has passed away- ". The rain was beating down more and more heavily, and the icy old rainwater seemed to be trying to bury me down. The significance of Emei

Disclaimer: I did not learn any Chinese literature in school and so all literary references whoosh over my head. I have done my best to translate and interpret with resources available on the Internet, but I still may have missed a lot. Feedback and other speculations are welcome.

I've been puzzled for a while about the meaning of the lines of poetry Jiang Xuening recites in reference to Xie Wei's qin, 峨眉 Emei.

She first comments on the name in Episode 8, reciting a fragment of a poem she believes Xie Wei might have taken inspiration from in a flashback.

峨眉山北雪极目，方丈海中冰作壶 On the north side of Emei Mountain, there is snow as far as the eye can see, The sea by the Buddhist temple is frozen like a pot. [1]

This is ostensibly a reference to the famous Emei Mountain in Sichuan, which is sacred in Buddhism and alluded to in numerous poems.

The lines Jiang Xuening quotes are one half of the complete poem, which taken as a whole evokes a wild, bitter, wintry outdoor scene and a longing for warmth [2]. Emei of these lines is cold, lofty, and pristine, much like Xuening's perception of Xie Wei himself at this point in her first life.

The scene changes to another flashback, with an exchange between Fangyin and Jiang Xuening as Xie Wei storms the capital:

娘娘！不好了，谢危焚琴谋反，已联合燕临大军攻击皇城！ Niangniang! Bad news! Xie Wei has burned his qin and rebelled. He's joined forces with Yan Lin's troops and is attacking the capital! 焚琴谋反？原来是“一振高名满帝都，归时还弄峨眉月”的峨眉！好你个谢危！ Burned his qin and rebelled? So it was the Emei from, "When your renown shakes the capital, come back and admire the moon over Emei with me," after all! Damn you, Xie Wei! [3]

This set of lines Jiang Xuening recites as Empress are the last of a poem called 《峨眉山月歌送蜀僧晏入中京》 by 李白, or "A song of the moon over Emei Mountain to send off Shu Seng Yan on his trip to the capital" by Li Bai. You can find the full text on Baidu.

It's a poem Li Bai wrote while traveling to his place of exile [4], and in it, the moon over Emei serves as a symbol of his longing for home and to connect him with his friend the monk Shu Seng Yan, who is leaving Li Bai and heading for the capital, Chang'an. Thus, the last two lines are a wish for his friend to make a name for himself in Chang'an, but also for them to enjoy each other's company again.

Back in the Story of Kunning Palace, we return to the present day, and Jiang Xuening thinks:

所以谢危上一次最终是当皇帝了，还是去弄那峨眉月了？ So did Xie Wei become the emperor in the end last time? Or did he return to admire the moon over Emei?

So

Emei the qin was destroyed before Xie Wei stormed the capital.

Xie Wei made Emei himself, and presumably can make another qin.

Xie Wei cannot "admire the moon over Emei" if he takes the throne, and vice versa.

So I posit that (Jiang Xuening thinks) Xie Wei thinks of Emei as symbolizing a life of peace -- a life in which he can play the qin. Like Shu Seng Yan, Xie Wei knows that his ability to enjoy Emei is only temporary in the light of his long-term plans -- his plans to shake the capital. But if he "returns," that is, gives up the throne and makes a new qin, he can enjoy that life again. To Jiang Xuening, that is the meaning of Emei.

However, we know Ning'er is a virtuoso at misunderstanding Xie Wei, and I personally think that if Xie Wei was actually going off this poem, he cannot avoid thinking of Emei as a line of comfort connecting him to his late mother, who had encouraged him to master the qin, much like Li Bai thought of Emei Mountain as a connection to his home region of Sichuan.

Anyway, this is just my interpretation at the moment. Please take with several grains of salt.

Anyways, Alina is the protagonist of "Shadow and Bone"(book trilogy and a show), for those who don't know, and she's the Sun summoner(only one of her kind), representing light that is eventually going to fight the darkness. That theme of light and dark and their interplay is the perhaps the most obvious theme of that work.

Spoiler alert😭 sorry.

Alina repressed her powers in the beginning, while being tested, so that she would not be discovered, fearing that if she did in fact have powers, she would be taken away from her best friend from the orphanage, not wanting to be apart from him. They were children then.

For context, she could have had any power but the power of the Sun Summoner had been prophesized and highly desired, not only by grishas(basically, people with powers in that universe) but for also saving the kingdom of Ravka(Slavic coded) from the fold(it's a wall/passage of void and darkness). So, she gave up a life in the palace, that grishas get, to stay in the orphanage with her best friend, unknowingly depriving the nation of the Sun Summoner for years as a result😭.

There might be a theme of willing or concious concealment, most likely of yourself.

There are many variations of this: some of you are doing it for noble reasons, some of you do it for survival, some of you do it just... because, reasons.

A version of this is that you have hidden your views, opinions, preferences, thoughts, feelings and/or small actions, because you think people around you will harm you? This sounds intense, I'm sorry if this is true. Maybe not physically harm you, but you guys just have a concious need or desire for extreme privacy and secrecy. It looks to me like you're doing this to reach a specific goal.

For some of you, most likely a minority, I'm getting that this is a pregnancy, and that it's not from a committed relationship or a marriage.

For others, it's a course you decided to take in life, maybe about choosing a degree or wanting to learn something(literally taking a course for a skill) on your own.

Interesting... I think you guys are not only concealing your truths, but also sharing things that mean little to you. This is torturous. You should be able to feel included in the life around you. Your values are imperative and they should reflect on your outward reality. I know that you are concealing them in hopes of working on making them manifest in reality, but no. Your struggle is not worth whatever can be achieved by this. It might make things way worse...

Trust yourself and don't listen to me if you think I'm wrong, especially if your situation does concern pregnancy or a huge life choice, but please, hear me out too if you can.

"There is a sign" is what I've got. You might be given a sign about where you will be heard, valued and supported. Something about the letter U and nuts is what I'm getting already😭. I am so sorry but I am getting creepy and disgusting energy from that person. For most of you, I'm getting this is not something traumatic to you, at least not really, but if it is, I hope you get your justice, however much you need. Validation from wherever I'm hearing this messages(😭my intuition?) is here. I think you're revisiting that time in your life or just remembering how you felt then and realizing you're not so different from that version of you. I'm going to feel embarrassed if none of you are named Annika or a similar name but that's what I got😶 maybe that name means something to you, even if you do not have a real-life person in your life who is called that.

Another name I'm getting is Liz, or Lizzie, Eliza... you get it, any variation of it. If someone here is named Elizabeth, then they most likely get addressed by a shortened version of the name, or were then.

I'm getting Annika and Anne names much more strongly though.

So going back to the message, anyone who invalidated you, made you feel like you were insane, they do not know what they are talking about, and never did. I am truly sorry for those people who made you feel insane because they are going to be really put through an experience. Not that you care for it much. I think you guys are good at having a "birds eye view", a high perspective that allows you to see the whole picture clearly. You are not petty at all, and prefer peace and calm as your vengeance against those who wronged you. Those people are about to have the rug pulled from under their feet. They are going to feel like the earth has bern opened beneath them. A blessing that they have never gotten_ the truth revealed. You have known it all along.

I think you guys forgot about that situation, and now, going back to it emotionally or mentally, or even psychologically, might feel like you're yourself again, whole.

If you guys have not hit a milestone yet, then I'm seeing success for you. At the very least, I'm seeing mental assuredness and spritual security in you, calm(on the outside) passion and contentment in general, a lot of independence too. True freedom from unecccesary imposter syndrome is also there. A momentum is going to be picking up in your life, like a ball rolling and getting bigger, picking up more as it goes. Independence, validation, balance, peace💕 and you're looking good I see, you're feeling fresh, healthy and true, natural.

Do not go back to anyone who has wronged you, even if they want to apologize and want your forgiveness. It's rude not to do so for some people, but your momentum cannot bear to be affected by that familiar, harmful energy. Try to be as distant with them as possible, and try to spend as little energy on them as possible, preferrably, none at all.

I'm seeing travel for you guys and I want to congratulate you. Do not know why, but maybe the fact that you have arrived in this flow is enough.

yess that's exactly what happens. was thinking that in this au you can't separate the powers from her and after cheng takes her he realizes he cant force himself to kill her so he decides to raise her for the purpose of reviving his actual daughter. along the way he develops a genuine soft spot for her but it's all very fucked

treading into heavily making shit up territory here so bear with me: remember when ed called mr cheng a mogui king? assuming he has a reputation and influence, why wouldn't he have his own little palace somewhere in the bowels of diyu? that's where he's raising and training her in this au, forbidding her from leaving. ed is there to play a babysitter/big brother role and gugu spends those 16 years desperately trying to save her

Character Names in LBFAD – Meaning and Significance

What’s in a name? For the characters of LBFAD (Love Between Fairy and Devil), a whole lot of hidden meanings! These are not apparent to English viewers. Here are my translations and interpretations of these meanings.

DongFang Qing Cang - 东方青苍: “East, Cyan, Dark blue”

The surname “DongFang” means East, the direction of the rising sun. Both Dongfang Qingcang’s (DFQC) personal terrace at Silent Moon Palace and the replica Arbiter Hall he built for Xiao Lanhua (XLH) face East, and capture the most beautiful sunrises. DFQC (and previous generations of DongFangs) are well-respected by their people and enjoy the best locations and residences in Cangyan Sea.

The “Cang” in DFQC was named for his realm, “Cang” Yan Sea, as he was expected to be its leader and follow the path set for him by his father, and Lady Yan before him. Lady Yan chose to rid herself of emotions in order to wield Hellfire, and DFQC’s father forced the same decision onto him. The hanzi (mandarin character) for “Cang” in DFQC and Cangyan Sea means dark blue, and the darkness of this colour represents the darkness of the path he was expected to follow.

But “Cang” is not the only colour in DFQC’s name! The “Qing” in his name means lighter shades of blue/green, or cyan. And despite his prescribed mission to emotionlessly conquer the three realms, DFQC has many lighter, more peaceful shades to his character that reveal themselves as the series progresses. He forms a friendship and brotherhood with his enemy Changheng, who shares with him a love of playing music, art and cuju! And he rises above the cruel dictator of Shuiyuntian who almost annihilated his people, by sending his people to aid Shuiyuntian.

(The aurora borealis in Cangyan Sea is also cyan and dark blue :D DFQC might have been named for this as well as for Cangyan Sea!)

Xiao Lan Hua - 小兰花: “Little Orchid Flower”

We are first introduced to our female lead as “Xiao Lanhua”, which is not a name, but a description of what she believes her true form to be, a little orchid flower. But this was a disguise given to her by her parents and upheld by Siming. Her real name is Xiyun.

Xi Yun - 息芸: “Every breath”

The character for “Xi” in XLH’s true name is the same as the “Xi” in her realm, “Xishan”, and means breath (of life). Just like DFQC, she is named for her realm, as she was the intended leader of Xishan as its Goddess. The Xilan tribe of Xishan had powerful healing magics, and hers is the most powerful of all, with the ability to resurrect the dead with her blood, thus providing the breath of life. She uses this to great effect, resurrecting DFQC in ep. 26, everyone who died on the battlefield in ep. 31, and freeing the 100,000 sealed soldiers of the Moon Tribe.

The “Yun” in her name meaning every, combined with “Xi” can be interpreted as “every breath”. Sadly, XLH’s every breath is for one purpose and brings her closer to her one destiny. She is fated to sacrifice herself to save the three realms from Taisui. If this had happened, then like Lady Chidi before her, her sacrifice would soon have been forgotten.

Chi Di - 赤地: “Red/Barren Earth”

The “Chi” in Lady Chidi’s name means red, and paired with “Di” meaning earth, can also mean barren earth. She is the only official in Shuiyuntian seen wearing Red, as even the current God of War, Changheng, conforms to the same white and pale blue robes that other officials wear. Chidi is therefore a standout who asserts her individuality and does not conform to expectations. Her way of thinking outside the box, led to DFQC and his 100,000 Moon Tribe soldiers being completely blindsided by her sacrifice 30,000 years ago. It also led to her breaking heaven’s laws to resurrect Ronghao, to her later detriment.

Chidi wields powerful earth magics, as represented by her name. These are so powerful that she is able to seal the 100,000 soldiers of the Moon Tribe within the barren earth of Xuanxu realm. Her mighty Shuofeng sword is also swallowed by the barren earth and her magic cannot be reversed without her primordial spirit.

Xun Feng - 巽风: “Obedient wind”

The “Xun” in Xunfeng means to obey, and the “Feng” means wind. His name can be interpreted as either “obedient to the wind” or an “obedient wind”. Like the wind, Xunfeng lacks substance, confidence and ability, and is disrespected by his people during DFQC’s imprisonment. Many contenders try to steal his position as Moon Supreme, and he almost dies on the Wind Plain until DFQC arrives to save him.

But Xunfeng cares fiercely for his people. In his attempt to protect them, he collaborates with Ronghao without knowing his identity or motivations. He is thus “obedient to the wind” where Ronghao is an unknown and unseen entity, like the wind. Xunfeng is unable to discern that Ronghao is keeping Cangyan Sea in a constant state of civil unrest and tormenting the souls of deceased Moon Tribe members until much later, with DFQC’s help!

Shang Que - 觞阙: “Watchtower”

“Que” meaning watchtower is an apt description for DFQC’s lieutenant and right-hand man. Shangque has many talents suiting him to this role! These include his ability to be stealthy, gather information discreetly, undertake covert missions successfully, act as a powerful defensive force, and a healing one due to his skill with Chinese medicine. Like a watchtower, he kept watch for 30,000 years during DFQC’s absence on all events occurring within the three realms. His loyalty and love for DFQC, whom he views as a brother and whose return he awaited for 30,000 years, are astounding!

 “Shang” paired with “Que” can mean lacking sustenance. This is the state Shangque was in when orphaned as a young boy, and many tried to take advantage of him and his dragon body. If not for DFQC saving him, he would likely have perished from hunger or been murdered :(

Jie Li - 结黎: “Dark knot”

Jieli suffers from much internal torment which is like a dark knot inside her. From the moment she was born, she never knew or received love, and was raised by people who continually exploited her, physically harming her and threatening her life. That she is even capable of loving and caring for others is a miracle! Unlike Shangque, nobody like DFQC ever stepped in to save her and care for her.

Jieli cares deeply for both XLH and Shangque. Her life under threat, she makes some bad choices such as spilling a drop of Chidi’s blood onto the Bone Orchid. This is one of many dark and knotty situations she encounters. Although she soon decides she would rather die than hurt XLH, Dieyi poisons Shangque to force her obedience.

Yun Zhong - 云中: “Among the clouds”

Yunzhong literally lives among the clouds, but his head is also in the clouds. He is very narrow-minded and cannot think outside the box. When XLH does not fit within the eight-class system of Shuiyuntian, he immediately decides she is Moon Tribe (even before the Bone Orchid protects her) without considering other possibilities. He is so strict with Changheng that he would rather execute the most powerful asset to Shuiyuntian (and his brother!!) than tolerate the slightest disobedience! Throughout the series, he is intent on exterminating the Moon Tribe and almost does in ep. 31 on completely false pretences.

Chang Heng - 长珩: “Steadfast bird”

Like the golden bird brooches that the celestials wear to represent their tribe, Changheng is a model citizen of Shuiyuntian. He is steadfast and loyal to his duties and puts these above his personal desires. When trying to rescue XLH from Cangyan Sea in ep. 13, he is honest with her that he cannot break the rules of Shuiyuntian, and only hopes that Yunzhong will be reasonable and lenient towards her! Changheng is far more steadfast and loyal than the average celestial. He is the only one apart from Ronghao to visit Chidi’s grave on her death anniversary, honours his brotherhood with DFQC after returning to the immortal world, and after learning Ronghao’s secret identity, listens to his side of the story.

Dan Yin - 丹音: “Crimson tidings”

Twice, Danyin is the bearer of important news, relaying her visions from the Tianji mirror to the sacrifice of her own desires. First, she tells a wounded and imprisoned Changheng about his wedding to XLH in the mortal realm, causing him to start a mortal tribulation. Then, she tells Yunzhong and the High Council about XLH’s true identity as the Goddess, saving Changheng from execution and leading to his wedding with XLH.

Rong Hao - 容昊: “Vastly compromising”

Ronghao has “one tiny earthly desire”, that his beloved master can live. What he is prepared to do to achieve this includes burning the souls of dead celestials and Moon tribe, massacring the entire Xilan population including their women and children, forcing his master to endure 30,000 years of cruel mortal tribulations and using evil qi to keep her alive. His willingness to vastly compromise both himself and her leaves Lady Chidi aghast.

Die Yi - 蝶衣: “Butterfly costume”

Dieyi is a shape-shifter and the different forms she takes, butterfly or woman, are her costumes, which help her to be sneaky and nefarious.

Xie Wanqing - 谢惋卿: “Withering sigh”

Having forgotten her life as Lady Chidi, Xie Wanqing feels incomplete without knowing why, expressed by her sad sighs. Chidi is forced to endure countless mortal tribulations just like this one and die (wither) repeatedly. In each of these lives she is condemned to be murdered by the one she loves!

Xiao Run - 萧润: “Mournful wealth”

Both Xiao Run and his true self as Changheng come from positions of wealth and noble status. But both of them mourn the loss of freedom that comes from this – although Xiao Run is more of a carefree rebel! :D

Si Ming - 司命: “Arbiter of fate”

Using the power of her position as Arbiter of Fate, Siming has repeatedly defied heaven’s laws and changed fate! She resurrects Ronghao as an immortal, creating a new destiny leaf for him. She released the convicted dragon Chang Yuan and married him. And she instructs DFQC on how to also defy nature’s laws and change destiny! :D

Chang Yuan - 长渊 “Steadfast abyss”

He is the deep abyss that Siming falls into, as in choosing him, she accepts the fate of being imprisoned with him in the Ruins of Myriad Heavens for the rest of eternity. But at least he is steadfastly loyal to her.

Tai Sui - 太岁: “Very Ancient”

This most ancient of tricksters could not be defeated by numerous generations of Goddesses, who merely sealed him beneath Xishan. Over his very long life spanning hundreds of millenia, he has learned to tell whatever lies are needed to manipulate others and ensure his survival.

Something about the raw power he exhibits; the way his corded arms fold over the broad expanse of his chest, or the sharp cut of his jaw, the aquiline slope of his nose, the clear violet of his gaze. 

His eyes meet yours through the haze of insense smoke and the dancing tide of courtiers and memory comes back to you slowly, and then all at once. With the swiftness of the tide. The distant dreams formed in the folly of youth; some depraved girlhood fantasy as you regard the masked man once more. Only this time you note the dark lines inked into his forearms, and the tell-tale shade of blue-black hair that curls around fine, pointed ears. You would know him by scent alone; jasmine and mandarin, undercut with something inherently masculine. Bergamot and woody-bourbon. 

Your High Lord.

He looks older than you remember him. His face is cast in shadows but even in the low light you can see that the once perfect planes of his face have faint lines etched into them, a testament to his many years ruling The Night Court. He’s softer than you remember but underneath the softness there’s a lingering sense of dark, raw power. You swear its so palpable that you can taste it on the air as he smiles wickedly in your direction.

But don't worry, I'm here to satisfy your curiosity. I've assigned each IkePri suitor scents and perfumes based on information from the routes and, of course, mainly on the vibes they give me.

Sariel Noir

The Palace Devil definitely wears a complex yet sophisticated perfume, with a fresh and spicy top note and a warm, woody base.

I don't know about you, but I feel like he smells like a breath in a snowy mountain at midwinter, refreshing, almost freezing. But he is elegant, discreet and sophisticated. He might seem cold but I'm sure he is warm and cozy on the inside (and a little freak iykyk). If I had to describe his scent vibe in a sentence it would probably be "like drinking a hot chocolate in front of a fireplace after a morning in the middle of the snowy mountains of Northern Europe."

Summary:

One night, a monkey is born from a stone atop a tall mountain and disturbs the Jade Emperor. He gives the order to eliminate the cub, but Buddha appears before him and tells him to let him find his purpose. One of his escapades causes a feared demon to pounce from his mountain lair and grab one of the troop's cubs for food; as a result, Monkey is banished.

To prove his worth, he trains to fight the demon. After many years, when he deems himself ready, he confronts the demon, but his training proves ineffective, and another cub is snatched. To fetch a more suitable weapon, Monkey dives into the sea realm of the Dragon King, who is about to use a glowing column to eradicate all life on the world's surface. Communicating with the column, Monkey turns it into a staff and escapes. Monkey returns to the demon's lair, defeats him, and rescues the cub. Prompted by the grateful troop, he crowns himself King of the Monkeys, but the troop's elder cautions that his staff should only be used by the gods, so the new Monkey King decides to kill 100 demons, thus gaining the right to become a god.

Eventually, he comes to a village terrorized by the Red Girl. With the endorsement of a girl named Lin, Monkey King defeats Red Girl, but the Dragon King arrives during the victory celebration to reclaim his prized weapon. After fighting him, Monkey King leaves the village; Lin, pledging herself as his assistant, tags along, even though he treats her condescendingly. Unknown to him, Lin is helping the Dragon King reclaim the staff in return for saving her drought-stricken village.

In a graveyard, Monkey King opens a portal to Hell to get to the Archive of Souls and strike his name off his Scroll of Life and Death, thus gaining immortality. King Yama, the ruler and chief judge of Hell, recognizes them as outsiders and fights them. Monkey King succeeds in erasing his name, but is only made ageless. He steals Yama's Book of Everlasting Life and learns he must eat a peach from the Orchard of Everlasting Life to gain full immortality. The Dragon King subtly guides Monkey King and Lin to a peach tree laced with an intoxicating poison, but ends up getting fed one himself, foiling the plan.

After realizing the peaches are fake, Monkey King learns from the book that Wangmu, the divine Queen Mother, brews an immortality elixir for the gods. He and Lin infiltrate the Jade Palace's pharmacy to create a sample of the elixir. Wangmu catches them in the act, but Monkey King consumes the potion, thus becoming fully immortal. Although Lin has several chances to steal the staff, she repeatedly returns to help Monkey King, who also demonstrates that despite his rude behavior, he cares about her too. Monkey King and Lin flee the Heavens, and in a following heart-to-heart, Lin admits that she longs to make a difference in the world and tries encouraging Monkey King to do the same.

When Monkey King remains aloof and boisterous, Lin outwits him and delivers the staff to the Dragon King. The Dragon King reneges on his deal and prepares to drown the world in a mega-storm, but Monkey King challenges and attacks him. Realizing her mistake, Lin enables Monkey King to beat the Dragon King, but Monkey King becomes power-drunk, and Buddha prepares to intervene. Wanting to give Monkey King another chance, Lin is allowed to act as Buddha's voice and challenges Monkey King to leap off Buddha's hand to win rulership over Heaven, or else suffer a period of penance. Monkey King fails and is imprisoned in a mountain. Before the mountain is fully closed off, Lin is allowed to say goodbye to Monkey King, who finally admits how important Lin has become to him. She leaves him his staff for company.

Five hundred years later, Monkey King is freed from his prison by a monk, a pig, and a river spirit at Buddha's behest. They invite him to join them on a journey to the West, to which he over-happily agrees.

can’t stop thinking about the thought of Yao and Kiku at Versailles in 1919 after WWI and the Hall of Mirrors and the symbolism of it all 😔The sheer resentment on Yao’s part over the Japanese territorial claim to Shandong in the Versailles Treaty, the superiority-inferiority complex radiated by Kiku, undeniably triumphant over Yao but very keenly aware that the Western powers do not regard him a real equal all the same. I think what gets me is how I see them: the thought of these two old nations who have such a long history together having a furious face off—with their once long hair both cropped short in the western style, both in western clothing instead of the hanfu or changshan or kimono they’ve worn for centuries, in the opulent surroundings of the Palace of Versailles—one of the grandest examples of Western architecture. And probably arguing in English, not Mandarin Chinese or Japanese, because neither will ever countenance using the other’s language at this fraught point in history. Yao will never recognise Kiku’s power, and Kiku will never deign to lose face by speaking the language of his mentor (and rival) who has lost all his prestige and thus, any respect he might’ve once deserved.

Mirrors too are an old element with meaning in both Chinese and Japanese culture, and both Yao and Kiku are no strangers to palaces— but the Hall of Mirrors is utterly Western in its baroque grandiosity and impressiveness and artistry. It’s like on one hand, Sino-Japanese conflict is far older than the rise of/very existence of several of these Western powers, and so this is a familiar and incredibly old dynamic in some ways. But at the same time, this whole set up is alien and unfamiliar and while Kiku absolutely has the upper hand, they are both utterly out of their natural element too. As befits how Japanese and Chinese adoption of Westernisation in the 19th-20th centuries was hardly motivated by an indulgent admiration of Western ways, but absolutely driven by a sense of mortal danger to their political autonomy from western empires, if they didn’t adapt to what was now the centre of world power.

I feel like I've never drawn such a smooth picture. It took me three days in total, and my inspiration went straight to tian ling gai*. This is probably my favorite illustration in recent years~ Even though I'm progressing every day, I still like this illustration! The specific process is for Tian Guan Ci Fu.

The entire composition is determined by the “stability of the triangle*”: 1. Xie Lian used an almost self-destructive method to show mercy to the world and raise the sword for the common people, with determined eyes (because I liked reading some books and also studying some secondary cultures, so I always thought that there are worshipped gods who did not have their eyes painted to show respect, so I paint the statues of the gods without adding the eyes), so I didn't highlight the details here. The color I used is a mix of beige and purple to give Xie Lian a soft background. Under the sword is Qiong Lou*, which is the human world, but I have reduced it for comparison. What is striking is that people are the center and God is also a person. 2. Hua Cheng holds an umbrella in one hand and Xie Lian's self-destructive sword in the other, while protecting Xie Lian from the wind and rain, he cannot bear Xie Lian's sacrifice. The two are framed in a triangle by me because I don't want them to be separated. 3. Hua Cheng is sitting on a flower tree. The flowers are butterflies flying all over the sky with longing. The reflection of the sword's body turns into a silver butterfly resting on the tip of the sword, the hand blocking the hilt echoes Hua Cheng's protection and longing for Xie Lian. Even if I am among thousands of flowers, I am too lazy to look back; this is partly because of the asceticism of a monk and partly because of you I once had (取次花丛懒回顾，半缘修道半缘君).

This image is inspired by “The flowers are blooming on the other side, and there is sadness on the other side, and love is so helpless and so lonely. This caused the string to break at the end, and the flowers fell onto the shoulders, in a trance. Tonight or any other night, I am no longer a stranger to you. Don't break the promise of three lifetimes, it's easy to look at Zhu Chengbi*. I am proud to be worthy of the world, and when I look back, I have kept my promise.”*
