gotta be honest.... i need everyone to stop misunderstanding characters. and going with the fanfic stereotypes . or whatever first impression they give off..

basically, goodnight only to those who don't take people at face value or don't jump to conclusions about characters and to sebek, leona <333333, malleus, gojo, kalim, cater, riddle, jamil, and especially floyd <3 and sleep tight, hope you have sweet dreams tonight gojo satoru <3333 and those who have them as their favourite characters.

I made a post the other a few months back about how nice it is to have a character who wants marriage but doesn't want children via gale and I just want to add on to that because I see so many people who draw him as a dad and it gave me a visceral reaction.. I'd never like comment on their stuff because like people are allowed to make their happy endings be whatever they want obviously but I think it bothers me so much because, (and this is really really rampant in the bg3 community worse then in any other Fandom I'm in)

People really don't like these characters a lot of the time? And it shows really poignantly when they see a character have an opinion they don't like and go "he doesn't mean that lol it's just cause he's afraid he wouldn't be a good parent and We know he would"

But would he? Why does him being a good, kind, loving and warm person immediately mean he'd be a good parent?

People project these weird fantasies onto the characters that just absolutely throw in the trash the way the characters are actually written and what makes them so beautiful.

A better example is with astarion, there has been like a billion tiktok videos unpacking it but it's also some thing me and my sister have talked about a lot.

I'd say like 60%, if not more, of the people who claim to be astarion fans think that ascending him his morally good and project this weird dark romance book bad boy persona onto him. Or rather, they literally never see him for more then the facade he puts up.

Those specific Astarion fans hear the line 'I don't know If I want anyone to see me in a sexual way" and plug their ears because that ruins the hot sexed up fuck me vampire they want him to be.

And it, as silly as I know This is, genuinely triggers me to see it.

Again people can enjoy their Fandom, I just scroll on by im not gonna moral police Someones fun but it's like, so very sad to me to see these characters stripped of their personalities and be so fundamentally misunderstood.

Anyway back to the point specifically, seeing people envisioning him as a dad or with children and with their pregnant characters feels like a weird kind of disrespect to me. He uses dialog that is often used by people who don't want kids when explaining that feeling.. And as someone who doesn't want kids I think it makes me feel like a level of my own personal Choice is being stomped.

People who draw gale with kids even tho he has said he didn't want to be A father feels too close to home for me with people telling me I'll change my mind about not wanting kids and I'll get over it.

Anyway tldr I'm just being a piss baby that fans make gale a have kids💁

Her backstory is actually sad, she's a misunderstood character she always does her best to be perfect to prove her worth and she reminds me of how the "gifted" or "achiever" child like me and others act although I don't stand by her actions of bullying it's actually sad that the people who want more "representation" of misunderstood people hates a misunderstood character... They don't see how much she tried to prove her worth of being smart and kind and when she panicked she started acting like how the other kids probably acted because she still wanted to live... Characters who are clearly complex or are misunderstood but half of the fandom don't want to believe/say it because they did a few bad things even though there are characters who are a lot worse>>>>>

Something that bothers me so much is when people take a character’s actions in the beginning of their story where they did something bad and compares it to later in the story where they denounce someone else doing something bad and then they call the character a hypocrite. Like that’s not hypocrisy that’s called character development.

Most of the time it’s female characters too.

Thinking about Katara getting shit on by certain fans for telling Toph not to bring attention to them by stealing after she made that same mistake in season 1. Like yeah because she learned her lesson and she didn’t want the same to happen to Toph (also she was right lol)

And then Annie saying all she wants is for there to be peace even though she killed many people. Are we just going to ignore her entire backstory and the mental anguish she went through in the time between when these two events happened?

It just bugs me that when a male character makes mistakes and learns from it they are a well written complex character but when a female character does it she’s a hypocrite and a bitch.

The Complexity of Christian Thompson

1. He Sees Andy Clearly

Christian is one of the few people in the fashion world who acknowledges Andy’s intelligence and inherent goodness, even if he does it bluntly. His observation that she doesn’t belong in Miranda’s world is accurate, as she ultimately comes to the same conclusion.

3. He’s Not Villainous, Just Flawed:

Unlike Nate, who guilts Andy into seeing his perspective, or Miranda, who manipulates her for professional gain, Christian operates more neutrally. Yes, he’s opportunistic in pursuing Andy romantically, but he doesn’t actively sabotage her.

His flaws, like trying to charm her or being self-serving in his ambitions, are human rather than malicious.

Christian’s role is complicated—he serves as both a temptation and a truth-teller. He represents a version of the professional world where compromise is inevitable, and while his methods aren’t perfect, his insights about Andy’s unsuitability for Miranda’s world are spot-on.

In the end, he doesn’t force Andy’s hand—she makes her own decisions, learns her own lessons, and grows from the experience. While Christian plays a role in her journey, he isn’t inherently antagonistic. Instead, he’s a flawed but insightful character, adding nuance to Andy’s story.

i feel like not enough ppl are factoring in the cultural clash between laios and shuro and the many micro agressions shuro faced while being in their group. literally the name 'shuro' in itself is one

his name is toshiro 😭 lets also not forget that he has his own communication issues, in the opposite way that laios does- thats literally a factor in their argument, that his envy for laios's ability to express himself sincerely manifested as part of his distaste for him.

ig all this to say like, was their fight heart wrenching, especially when reading laios as autistic? absolutely. anybody whos ever been in laios's position knows how much it hurts to realize someone you thought was your friend doesnt actually like having you around, especially when they didnt tell you and you had no way of knowing due to not understanding their cues. but im begging yall to step back and see the nuance of this situation cause im gonna be real a lot of you are kinda just brushing over it acting like everything is toshiros fault and that hes a terrible person when in reality hes an average guy who really, really clashed with laios and it led to a very long misunderstanding due to their supremely opposite methods of communication. even laios and toshiro, after letting everything out in their fight, were able to come to an understanding and start a foundation for an actual friendship built on better communication

ok yknow what Edit: i shouldve made it even more explicit at the end of this post, i hadnt thought i would need to since i started the post with this, but i think a few too many people are missing my point so i just wanna clarify. i shouldnt have said 'really clashed' and left it at that because yeah they did, but it wasnt just their opposite methods of communication, it is also very much that toshiro was experiencing microaggressions via laios. it may have been unintentional on laios's part, but it still happened and wore him down, made it harder for him to communicate on top of both the more subtle social cues that he was raised with and his own communication difficulties. i also want to say that the fandom reaction to toshiro and the complete ignorance of this point is also racist tbh or at the very least ignorant. i understand that the anime did not cover this panel, and neither did the manga, as this was an omake, but im gonna be real with you guys. there are enough context clues within the story to clue you into this. if you didnt pick up on it thats ok, but i think this is a good lesson in picking up subtext in the stories that youre watching and/or reading. kui shouldnt have to explicitly say 'by the way laios was racist to toshiro' for this point to be understood, and at the very least, when the author portrays a character in a sympathetic light (as kui clearly does) it should make you question Why they are doing so and what makes them sympathetic, rather than youre immediate and only reaction to be 'well i hated what this guy did/said so i hate them and they suck'. idk exactly how to finish this, just. idk. question your biases and gut reactions to things you see in media and stories, and think about whether or not theres subtext that youre missing.
