Posters from this week's episode.
Even if they are only visible for a second (this time), it would be a shame if they were completely overlooked.
I love you, Mara!
More about some of them.
Morts sans sépulture – a Jean-Paul Sartre's play (1946). The play caused a scandal, with reports of female spectators fainting at the premiere.
Le Café du Cadran – a 1947 French drama. A young couple from Auvergne, Julien and Louise Couturier buy a café in the heart of Paris. The capital soon has a detrimental effect on them as Julien falls in with bad company and Louise flirts with violinist Luigi and develops a taste for expensive things.
Les Frères Jacques – a French vocal quartet active from 1946. The band was famous for combining singing and mime.
Quai des Orfèvres – a 1947 French police procedural drama about a theatre actress (lots of jealousy involved). It's also the name of the waterfront in Paris close to where S2 was filmed.
La Kermesse rouge – a 1947 French historical drama. It's about a rivalry between two painters that concludes with an incident based on a real-life 1897 fire in Paris.
Les Enfants du Paradis – a 1945 two-part French romantic drama set in the theatrical world of Paris. Lots of jealousy here too.
Trio Raisner – if you want some contemporary harmonica music.
*There were also a lot of political posters, which makes sense given the end of the war and the French elections in November 1946.

LÉON-MAXIME FAIVRE; "DEATH OF THE PRINCESS DE LAMBALLE" 1908
The painting depicts the killing of Princess de Lamballe (Marie Thérèse Louise) in the September Massacres of the French Revolution. Marie, an affluent widowed aristocratic woman and close companion of Queen Marie Antoinette, remained loyal to the French royalty until the end, refusing to betray the king and queen in front of a radical sans-culottes tribunal. As a result, she was murdered, her body stripped and dishonored, her head removed and placed on a spike. This piece portrays her in a heroic, almost martyr-like glow.
Following her husband's death, she gained immense power by joining Queen Marie Antoinette's court and winning her affection. Despite being reserved and openly charitable, Marie Thérèse was widely disliked by the public well before the Reign of Terror due to her wealth and influence. During that time, the Queen and Marie Thérèse were often depicted as lesbian lovers in obscene cartoons published by the tabloids.
In August 1792, she was among numerous aristocrats imprisoned towards the month's end. The intention was to safeguard the aristocracy amidst the riots by incarcerating them. However, the prison was stormed, inmates were dragged out, swiftly judged by the angry mob, and brutally killed as the crowd's frenzy heightened. Marie Thérèse was one of the unfortunate victims. When faced with the disorganized tribunal, she was asked to "swear an oath to embrace liberty and equality and declare hatred towards the King, Queen, and monarchy." She took the oath but refused to denounce the royal family.
The events that followed have become the stuff of legend and myth. Multiple accounts describe the circumstances surrounding Marie Thérèse's death, including claims that she was sexually assaulted and mutilated. Witnesses suggest she was brought to a nearby courtyard, where bodies of other aristocrats were lying, and there she was struck on the head with a pike before being fatally stabbed by the enraged crowd. Subsequently, her head was severed and paraded through the streets of Paris.

The Three Ladies (OC fanart)
Authors note: The story is all fiction except for the historical figures mentioned
In the summer of 1681, on a hot and sweltering morning, a young maiden named Soledad de San Juan, who had light brown hair, green eyes, and pockmarked skin, prepared for her day's work. She was accompanied by another young maiden, Isabelle de Medinacelli, who had pale skin, blue eyes, and dark brown hair. Upon arriving at the Queen's chambers, they assisted Marie Louise with her morning routine, fixing her hair and offering her a glass of water.
The Duchess of Terranova then commanded the ladies to step aside, announcing that she had news about the Queen’s new painter, who was rumored to be French and had just arrived at court. Outside the palace, a young maiden dressed in blue, named Santiana, who sat in a wheelchair, spotted the painter with all his equipment. When he arrived, he bowed to the King, Queen, and Queen Mother, and called for the Queen, as she was the subject of his latest upcoming masterpiece.
Mariana of Austria opposed the idea of a French painter portraying Maria Luisa, arguing, "There are already many painters at court; why bring in a French one?" Carlos explained to her that the portrait would be sent to the Duke of Orleans.
Santiana followed the painter, and along with Soledad and Isabelle, they observed Marie Louise being painted. "This portrait is something to remember," Santiana whispered, causing the girls to giggle.
"I have an idea," Isabelle proposed.
"What is it?" Soledad asked.
"We should be remembered too! We should have a portrait together," Isabelle suggested.
They began searching for a painter to commission their portrait, but most artists were busy and unavailable until the following month. Isabelle then asked her father, the Duke of Medinacelli, to persuade a painter to agree to create the portrait. The Duke convinced a painter at court, who ultimately agreed to take on the project. The trio then headed to their rooms to select the outfits they would wear for the occasion.
Isabelle took her seat as Soledad moved Santiana's wheelchair closer to the table and smoothed down the fabric of her dress. "Calm down, Santiana", Isabelle whispered across the table, an encouraging smile on her face. "It doesn't happen every day that we'll get painted. It's a true privilege. " Santiana sighed. "That is exactly why I am so nervous. It has to be perfect…" Soledad patted her friend's hand and squeezed it slightly. "It will. How could it not?" The door burst open and the painter entered. He took his time to carefully arrange his utensils, then turned around with a friendly expression. "Shall we get started?"
Isabelle then brought her pet raven with her. the raven made noises which causes the painter to be distracted.
After months of painting, the portrait was finally completed. Soledad, Isabelle, and Santiana gazed at it in silence. Soledad swallowed hard until Isabelle eventually broke the quiet. "I told you it would be perfect, didn't I?" she said, leaning down toward Santiana and wrapping her arm around the back of the chair. "We'll always remember this day, preserved for eternity in this painting," Santiana agreed. "This painting will represent so much more than just this day. It will always reflect one of the most beautiful things in this world," Isabelle added. Soledad smiled at her two friends and reached out her hands to them. "Our Friendship," she declared.

The girl with a thousand faces : Part 1
Hey guys! hum warning, this is my first fanfiction on Doctor Who. I wrote this one with the tenth doctor in mind. English is not my primary language, so please be indulgent. This fic will be in two or three parts depending on what the general reaction will be :0 So hum yeah. Also in the first chapter, you're given a certain name, but it will not be definitive.
Froggit-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3
-------------------------
Your destiny wasn’t what you could call “normal”. For a human at least.
Playing, studying, going to college, finding a job, having a family, and growing old, could be called a winning ticket. You, on the other hand, had to deal with something else for as long as you could remember.
Remembering. Here was something you were good at, something you had done for dozens of years without even understanding why it was happening. All those faces, all those lives you had to leave behind you. A single heart that had to grow again and again, without knowing where it would end up next, what language it would speak, what future it would be.
A miracle some would call it. To you, it was purely a curse. The process of dying, being conceived again, growing up, and remembering your past lives, was getting tiring as the years came by. But here you were once again. And this time, your death had been quite special. Never would you have imagined dying to free a city.
------------------------
Paris was beautiful, it was true. But too many people lived there for it to be breathable. Summer was a pain in the ass, having no air circulating between buildings, and the cramped space of the streets, making the temperature grow higher each passing day. It wasn’t bearable. Breathing wasn’t easy, and there was as much that water could solve.
Today was one of those days. Waking up to windows covered in craft paper to reduce the heat coming in the house, the rod from your old shutters, still in a corner of your room waiting to be saved. A kitchen, a little too small for even one person, and a pan to heat the water. A simple life in a busy city.
The bus had taken its sweet time to arrive, making you late for work. As soon as you entered the small café, you were in for quite a lot.
“Oh! Louise te voilà enfin! t’as presque une demie heure de retard, Naeva te cherche partout. J’ai mis ton uniforme dans l’arrière boutique
oh! Louise! here you are, you’re practically Half an hour late, Naeva was searching for you. I put your uniform in the back
-Ah!
Ah! Thanks a lot, Fély! I don’t know what I would do without you! Sorry for being late, my bus took another route again.
I’m not the one you should tell this, and hurry up, we open in 5 min.
With a big smile, you walked by the kitchen to finally get dressed in your work attire.
---------------------------
Working wasn’t a passion. Making drinks had become mechanical long before even entering this café. Made it more of a chore to keep a place to live.
Even with the knowledge of a thousand years, you had stayed here, certain that something special would happen in this life. This “something special” came with the name of John Smith. A beautiful man in a striped suit, bearing a gorgeous smile. Never would you have guessed that this man could bring so much trouble with him.
You were happy to have learned how to regain your memory faster. And practicing sports did wonders. But Running from potato-headed soldiers wasn’t how you imagined your Monday to go. Their guns secured in hand while they tried to shoot you and the man beside you.
Somehow, you managed to get shot in the side. Sure it hurt like a bitch, but it wasn’t your first rodeo with this kind of injury.
Making a new turn, the two of you had entered a small building. As soon as the door was closed, you heard a weird vibrating sound and saw “John” hunched over the door lock.
“It should last us a bit before they can get us.
-Who the heck are you ?! You seem to know an awful lot about what those are.
-I’m the Doctor.
-The Doctor? What kind of doctor runs from bald potato soldiers?
-I could ask you the same. And you were also shot. Do you think you can still help?
- I might die either way. Let me be useful….”
“ So… what is the plan? “
-----------------------
The Sontarans had tried to sneak a bomb on Earth. Similarly to a mine, someone had to walk on it for it to detonate. In this case, only a human could make it explode. The bomb was still on their ship, and the Doctor had found their teleporter.
The safe was easy to find, but to take down the fleet, the bomb had to be activated.
“Doctor, I know it’s not the best option, but I'm the only one here able to make the ship go down. I’m already injured so it wouldn't be a big loss. You'll probably find me again in another life anyway. You, on the other hand, I’m not entirely sure.
-What do you mean another life ?! You're not dying, not on my watch…!”
The brunette seemed stressed. You knew he was trying to hide it, but you had too much time in your life to know what was going on in his head.
“You know what? Can I promise you something?
-I don’t think I quite follow but go ahead.
-I promise you, I'll always come back. No matter what. Might take a few human years but I'll always be back. No matter the life. “
The doctor seemed surprised. Humans surely made shallow promises in the hope of making things better, and to make others less guilty. But the sincerity of your voice made him believe it, and it scared him.
“Who are you, Louise....?”
All you gave him was a small smile before picking yourself up, blood still spreading on your shirt despite having transformed your apron into a temporary bandage. Only three digits were necessary to open the door. Your hand on the lock, the door slides open, and the monstrosity you had before your eyes made you want to throw up. You knew of the pain that was going to go through you. It wasn’t your first death by a bomb, but the last blasted your brain in tranches below the surface.
The bomb looked like a normal sewer lid, it would have been easy for a citizen to mistake it for a normal one. Checking Behind you, you had hoped to see the face of the doctor one last time before taking a step.
His eyes held sorrow, convinced that he had to make something else work. In comparison yours held hope, knowing that it wouldn’t be your end. But as red lights came into existence, he had to run. His eyes turned as he ran away to get to safety.
Once you knew he was far enough, as your foot barely touched the bomb, you felt your skin burn like a thousand suns. It was almost welcoming.
Darkness took over, letting you sink into the unknown.
---------------------
Has you opened your eyes again, all you could see was the face of a beautiful woman. A halo was drawn on top of her head, as she whispered a sweet lullaby.
making gurgling noises, you finally reached for her nose, desperate to touch something again. And all you saw was her smile as she put her head against yours. Your name fell beautifully from her lips.
“Welcome to the world… Y/N Noble…”

There is a new exhibition called 'La Moda en la Casa de Alba/The Fashion in the House of Alba' at Palacio de Liria in Madrid from October 19th to March 31st. It covers two centuries of the family through their fashion with designs by Charles Frederick Worth, Louise Chéruit, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Flora Villareal, Manuel Pertegaz, and Enmanuel Húngaro. The exhibition includes dresses worn by Empress Eugénie of France, also the Countess of Montijo, and the wedding dresses of Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, 18th Duchess of Alba, Eugenia Martínez de Irujo, 12th Duchess of Montoro, and Sofía Palazuelo Barroso, Duchess of Huéscar. You can find out more about visiting here.
There are no jewels on display due to security concerns and the cost of insuring them but I noticed in the background of one of the pictures is a portrait of the Duchess of Huéscar wearing the Alba Strawberry Leaf Coronet.
It looks like it was part of the same photo session as the portrait that was found to be on display at Palacio de las Dueñas in Seville in January.
I need to see a better quality picture of Sofia wearing the tiara!
Strawberry leaf ducal-style coronets are very popular amongst Spanish nobility. The one is made of emeralds, diamonds, and pearls and was supposedly a gift from Empress Eugénie to her sister, María Francisca de Sales de Palafox Portocarrero y Kirkpatrick, 16th Duchess of Peñaranda de Duero, wife of the 15th Duke of Alba. Here it is worn by María del Rosario Falcó y Osorio, 21st Countess of Siruela, and María del Rosario de Silva y Gurtubay, 9th Marchioness of San Vicente del Barco, wives of the 16th and 17th Dukes respectively.
Of course it was most famously worn by María del Rosario Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, 18th Duchess of Alba, and most titled person in the world before she passed away in 2014.
If anyone goes to the exhibition and is able to get better shot of the portrait, I would very much appreciate if you would send it to me.

Automne 1932, Hylewood, Canada (1/3)
[Transcription] Layla Bahar : Lola ! Dolorès LeBris : Non, Agathon me ramènera après souper. Je travaille demain matin… Désolée.

Eté 1932 - Champs-les-Sims
6/6
