Air's End-of-Year Youtube Video Rec-List Round-Up
In light of recent events and also because I wanted to, I have put together a rec list of various (mostly longform) videos that I've enjoyed this year. Not all of these videos were released this year, however-- I just happened to see them for the first time in 2023. For readability and quality of life purposes, I have put this list under a readmore and divided the videos up by category, then creator, which means that some youtube channels might appear in multiple categories
I reserve the right to edit this later as I remember more videos, but I feel comfortable publishing it as is, considering it has almost 100 videos on it at this point

"Complaints and Grievances" Writer: Elliot KalanArtist: Mindy LeeColorist: Triona Farrell Letterer: Lucas Gattoni Review by: Kendra Smart Harley Quinn #45 is upon us fellow readers, and with it our first glimpse at what Harley really meant the last issue by Destructive Agency. Harley Quinn #44 most certainly gave us a fresh start with a new direction and a new team. Quinn has sought wisdom in her past yet again but this time there seems to be something different as we walk along Memory Lane with Harley. But, Harley Quinn has a new guise and a new purpose, to be the savior of the old ways of Gotham, the grit and sand of it. The main cover for Harley Quinn #45 features a one of a kind artwork on display for the caring folk of Gotham signed, sealed, and delivered by Harley. The team of Elizabeth Torque and Dave McCaig bring this vision to life stunningly. Their color choices and the details are what make the imagery so sassy and fun, such a great start to the book. That said, let's rejoin Harley Quinn and see what adventure she finds herself in. Commemorates, Not Celebrates. Harley Quinn #45 may open in a noir fashion but that ambiance is quickly dispensed as Harley Quinn, Agent of Destruction, is introduced to her first client. Sheldon Marcisak is front and center asking Harley to stop the cultural crime that is threatening Throatcutter Hill. Althea Klang has a different version of what the "heart" of NOWEGOSO should look like and it doesn't include a statue of a fallen mayor. Harley may have something of a plan but it seems Althea is just as adaptable to situations a Harley has proven to be. It is definitely a mental game for both ladies as they find both hold the stubbornness and the determination for a long game. There are new members added to the list and even some hard lessons Harley may not have been ready for. One thing is for certain, there will be humor along the way. [gallery columns="5" size="large" type="single-slider" ids="192854,192855,192856,192857,192853"] Gutter Clown There are many things I love about Harley Quinn #45, chief among them being the first 5 panels readers get. The film noir is such a nice set up to be knocked down. A genuinely great start. Elliot Kalan does humor very well and there are several examples. The dual sided hype session of Harley and Althea where they end on the same quote, for example, is a great showcase of art and word moving in union. Mindy Lee and Triona Farrell have many moments where their artwork shines. But I will say this, for all the humor and deep well digging we get with Harley and Chicken Fingers, I got to say one thing bugs me with this new launch. Let me preface by saying that I review and read Harley Quinn and quite frequently even the specials throughout the year. But one thing about this new series that is boldly plain is how thirsty Harley suddenly is. Given all of the lead ups both written and film, it is strange to see Harley divert SO hard from Ivy. I know she is "keeping her safe" from danger but still...at this point it is like being beaned with a hammer, and it honestly feels really weird given the hard push of their (Harley and Ivy's) relationship. Conclusion It remains to be seen where the whole fight for Throatcutter Hill is going and what part all the characters will have to play. Whether this will be an ongoing saga or just a passing fad. There were a few good laughs but overall, this wasn't a favorite issue. Not even the toilet humor, charming though it was, gave more than a chuckle. We will have to wait and see what the future holds and just what's next for the Harley Quinn Destructive Agency. Til next time friends. Images Provided Courtesy of DC Entertainment.

REVIEW
Pray for Her by Holly S. Roberts
Detective Eve Bennett #3
Strong addition to a compelling series ~ Couldn’t put it down!
What I liked:
* Eve: strong, intelligent, raised in the FLDS religious cult- escaped with the help of her mother, survivor, haunted by her past, supported by and supportive of her team, in a relationship with Clyde, confronts more than one abuser from her past, really like her * Clyde: ex-sniper, seasoned homicide detective, strong, intelligent, quiet, divorced, patient, wise, excellent at his job, there for Eve at work and outside of work, committed to the team and to Eve * Collin, Ray, Bina, and Tamm: the rest of Eve’s team chosen for their skills, personalities, backgrounds, and what they bring as individuals to make the team strong
* The team bond that is developing and how strong it proved to be when one team member was injured
* Seeing the cult through Eve’s memories and experiences as she applied this information to solving the case
* The police procedural aspects of the case and how the team managed to break through to get the answers they needed
* That some of those in the cult managed to escape * Being able to “hate” the bad guys
* Hoping there will be another book in the series and wondering what it will be about
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how difficult it would be to live in an FLDS cult and “stay sweet”
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
BLURB
The little girl trembles as a pair of dark eyes watch her every move. She’s been told to dig a hole big enough for a body and her heart races as she wonders who it’s for. She wants to run, but she knows she’ll be caught. So she fights back tears and begins to dig… When police stop a car in the small town of Hilldale, they shudder as they pop the trunk and look inside. Covered in thick plastic, the body of a man lies totally still. In the car sit two women and a twelve-year-old girl, all refusing to speak. As Detective Eve Bennet is called in to investigate, she’s struck by the women’s calm demeanor. No stranger to the secretive local community, Eve knows the women won’t speak to her, but she’s sure she can get the young girl to tell her what happened. When twelve-year-old Beth finally opens up and begs for help, Eve’s blood runs cold. If the man in the trunk is an eminent member of the local church, as Beth says he is, they could all be in serious danger. But Eve will stop at nothing to make sure Beth is safe, and when her search leads to a family home on a quiet little street, the last thing she expects is to come face to face with someone from her own dark past. Will she face her demons and unravel the truth behind the man in the trunk? And can she save herself and Beth from the evil that haunts their lives? An absolutely thrilling crime novel from a USA Today bestselling author, perfect for fans of Melinda Leigh, Kendra Elliot and Lisa Regan. You’ll be hooked from the very first page!

Intro
Wasted feelings, Broken meanings, Time is fleeting, See what it brings.
Hellos, goodbyes, a thousand midnights. Lost in sleepless lullabies
Heaven′s dreaming. Thoughtless thoughts, my friends. We know we'll be ghosts again.
epigraph
Words like violence
break the silence
Come crashing in,
into my little world
Painful to me,
pierce right through me
Can′t you understand,
oh, my little girl?
All I ever wanted,
all I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Vows are spoken
to be broken
Feelings are intense,
words are trivial
Pleasures remain,
so does the pain
Words are meaningless and forgettable

"Back In Town." Writer: Elliot KalanArtist: Mindy LeeColorist: Triona Farrell Letterer: Lucas Gattoni Review by: Kendra Smart Harley Quinn #44 is a movement forward by retracing Harley's roots, Gotham City roots to be exact. Harley finds herself in a bit of a pickle after the events of Harley Quinn #43, Absolute Power: Dream Team, and Poison Ivy #26's happenings. Also in Harley Quinn #44 we get a new writing/art team. Elliot Kalan takes the lead on writing, Mindy Lee provides art, Triona Farrell brings us color, and Lucas Gattoni rounds our team out as letterer. The main cover is brought to us by the team of Elizabeth Torque and Dave McCaig. I love this first look at what the new costume and vision for Harley Quinn is. The mixture of the old style and gravitas, while heralding in new form and character. I really dig the new palette colors, especially the purple. I Find Myself Vacillatin' Wildly Harley Quinn finds herself pondering on an all too familiar ponder, stuck in the middle. She isn't bad enough for the bad guys to recognize her, and the good guys don't see her as good enough to be claimed as a true hero. It is a doozy of a rock and hard place to be between. Harley realizes that even amongst the day to day that life is bringing her way she, like a Slayer before her, is just going through the motions. Alone, in her apartment, she looks back on her time here in Gotham, when she moved to the city to study psychology and wound up living in Throatcutter Hill. A place even Batman stayed clear of, but with fond faces and memories for Harley Quinn. Harley decides to check in on her old stomping ground and see what time has done to it. But the gritty neighborhood she remembers is now shiny and polished. Now called NOWEGOSOE, money and investment seem to do what even the Bat couldn't to help save the neighborhood. But to Harley, all the soul has been ripped out of the pavement by newcomer Althea Klang. Along with Harley's common sense too for a brief time. But while all seems well with this new shiny veneer, Harley knows the Hill deserves the character that made it seem like home. It is time to help Chicken Fingers. [gallery type="single-slider" columns="5" size="large" ids="192623,192622,192621,192620,192619"] Where Everyone Knows Your Name Harley Quinn #44 is a new beginning on many levels. Harley is yet again searching her past to figure out her future. But I won't lie, NOWEGOSOE made me chuckle because it is very reminiscent of SoDoSoPA from South Park. I think the new team has hit wonderful notes as they tell their first part of this story arc in the main series. Elliot Kalan is a very witty writer. One of my favorite lines references opera and has Harley saying, "I am the thief that robbed Pagliacci." . The artwork is also astounding and I like seeing the whimsy as well as the serious, the lines are wonderfully defined by Mindy Lee and Triona Farrell. Conclusion It will be interesting to see the voyage in store for Harley and her Destructive Agency. With all the work Harley has recently put into herself, it remains to be seen what the path forward has in store. But I look forward to seeing it with you, friends. Til next issue, be well!
