COMING DEC 7TH: The 2024 Afrofuturist Vampire Dance Party!
We’re BACK!! Thanks to your continued support, since we began crowdfunding since 2020. Back then, you supported our journey of turning a 2013 stage play, “Willow,” into a short film, “Willow: State of Emergency.” After our premiere screening at the Nuoyican Poets Cafe, winning Best Short Film of the Chicago Black FIlm Fest, and winning the WAVE Farm MAAF grant - we premiered the FIRST FOUR EPISODES of “Willow: House of Griots" in front of a live audience at Here Performing Arts Center.
And thanks to your support in making last year’s AVD Party an absolute hit, we were able to find representation for not only House of Griots, but also for a BRAND NEW FEATURE FILM in the “Willow” saga, “Willow: INVASION.”
This year, we’re raising funds to develop two highly-anticipated new feature film scripts: “Willow: Invasion,” and Paul Notice’s experimental Afrosurrealist autobiopic tackling generational love, trauma, and healing called, “Limerence.”
Join us as we celebrate the start of these new projects, and boogie down in a world of melanin and vampires!
The Afrofuturist Vampire Dance Party Saturday, December 7th, from 7pm - 1am First Live | 219 Central Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11221. Find Details and RSVP here or at bit.ly/avdparty
Featuring Afrobeat, Hip Hop, and House tunes from Special Guest DJ; This event is not just about music; it's about continuing to foster a community around the stories that need to be told.
So, whether you come as Drolta from "Castlevania: Nocturne," Akasha from Queen of the Damned, Willow from “Willow: State of Emergency,” or Blade - we wanna see it! Best Costume receives a prize at the end of the night!
Guests will pay homage through “Willow” themed drinks, and special deals from local vendors like Black Thoughts.
Check out Willow: State of Emergency on Amazon Prime to prepare for the next chapter of the Willow series, “Willow: Invasion.”
Can’t make it to the party, but would love to support our upcoming projects?
You can still support by making a tax-deductible donation to The Willow Project, or giving directly to our nonprofit, The Notice Blog.

Limerence
The Limerence Collection
Limerence is a there part conceptual piece that melds together both real events into a fictional narrative. An afrosurrealist docu-drama following a protagonist’s search to rid themselves of their Limerence for a lover vanishes after a remarkably strange weekend.
“I don’t do cases, I do deals” - A conceptual one-person cinematic show, using found footage and clever camerawork, this film will never be released, but will serve as the base for the Full Cast Short Film. This is currently under production.
Limerence
Short Film version, featuring a full cast. This half-hour short film builds on the one-person show.
Go ahead, tell them what you did to me.
A powerful explosion of generational love, healing, and trauma, this feature film delves deeper into the protagonists’ emotional journey. They will unearth new levels of existence and find a peace that’s evaded both of the families for so long - but at what cost?
“His gentleness was uncompromising: because he would not compete for dominance, he was indomitable.” - The Dispossessed
"Revolution brings the change we need. But Love: radical and unending love, is the foundation we will build upon, once the fires have smoldered." -- Paul, "limerence"
“I used to be ashamed of my softness, or how quick I was to smile, to forgive, to try to understand others. But, the older I got, the more I realized these attributes are what help build a loving community.
Now, much of the love I wish I received, I am able to give to others. Softness, gentleness, joy, patience, mercy, empathy, play, laughter and love. These are things that foster healing, growth, and fulfillment; not just in oneself, but - just as importantly - in others too.
Revolution brings the change we need. But Love: radical and unending love, is the foundation we will build upon once the fires have smoldered.”
Paul, “Limerence”

"Good Times" | Mike Bankhead | Dir. Paul A. Notice II
youtube
For “Good Times,” I wanted to use a quick dip into my personal life, as a framework to examine the complexities of Black Existence. I’d wager one of the biggest commonalities we have in the Black Experience is reconciling what the world sees/expects of us, and who we really are. We’re haunted by the racialized toxic positivity alluded to in the lyrics “Shut Me Up for the Good Times,” the anti-Black intentions behind mass incarceration in “Lock Me Up for the Good Times,” and cognitive dissonance from a litany of Double Consciousness byproducts.
So, I repurposed found footage into a gallery of memories, demonstrating all of the joy, grief, play, and resilience of Black life portrayed in the song. Rather than essentializing us down to oppression, or offering apologist rhetoric for colorblind racism, we follow Mike’s lyrics as they weave throughout a multitude of Black experiences. Because people are more than just one thing at one given point in time. Trayvon Martin isn’t just a murdered unarmed Black teenager. He was a son, a weekend snowboarder, a science camp geek, a jokester, a human being. Robbing Black folx of that existential complexity dehumanizes us.
