Hi! I loved your fashion in fodlan post, it's so detailed that I was super into it. I hope I'm not bothering you but how do you know so much about those type of clothes?? did you read it in a book or you just researched it little by little?? Also if it's not too much to ask, do you know what the type of collar Mercedes wears in the time-skip outfit's called?? Thank you so much!!! The history and production of textiles is a niche interest of mine, so clothes and fashion fall under that general area by necessity, so I've accumulated a fair body of knowledge over the years! (I wouldnt characterize it as broad, but it's there.) I wish I could point you to some specific books, but there aren't many in particular that I can vouch for. The one I can recommend is a companion book to a museum exhibit called Painted Cloth: Fashion and Ritual in Colonial Latin America.

(Also, in another life (aka college) I was a budding historian, so I do really enjoy researching obscure historical topics, which helps when I'm trying to find out things I don't know lol)

Now for the question of Mercedes, which is a GREAT question:

It's hard to find a direct answer because honestly, I think it's meant for Vibes. Since character design in video games, especially fantasy, is about vibes more than anything else, the historical influences are going to be very broad and are meant to give you a general idea of the character's whole deal. (There is always the possibility that I'm missing a really obvious real thing, so anyone is welcome to share corrections!!)

In her case, it pulls from a number of sources to give the impression of religious habits, but like. fun and funky. You will note that Mercedes's outfit, like most characters, is based on one of her canon classes, in this case the priest.

The religious vibes of the base uniform come from the combo of the hat/veil and collar, which are vaguely reminiscent of some of these:

The circular collar in the illustrations above is called a guimpe. There have been a number of different garments through the ages that fulfill a similar purpose (filling in a low neckline or covering the neck and shoulders), like pelerines, chemisettes, and partlets.

Pelerines are a type of shawl. Chemisettes would have been worn under the dress, and partlets, whether over or under, would likely be secured around the underarm, as seen here:

The other inspiration seems to be puritan collars, which are very basic and come from, as you may have gathered already, puritans.

So anyway, I suspect the reason that its been hard to find a clear name for it is because there isnt one! It's an amalgamation of these various things. But that's just a guess!

losing it over gem this season because oh my god is her charisma through the ROOF. all it takes is one word from her for people to die. she commanded pearl to kill grian, and pearl listened. pearl, the closest thing she has to an enemy!! the scarlet pearl, infamous in all her insanity!! gem has wormed her way into the center of every single alliance and pulled every person she comes into contact with into a fatal sense of hesitance.

and she doesn't even do it because she particularly cares either!! even her alliance with joel is, to a degree, superficial. she sees the bamboozler's hit list and she fights to get joel off it at first, but eventually ends it with "at least take me off..."

people tried to kill her a dozen times and they were so afraid of her-- or maybe just felt so guilty-- that even if she didn't ask them to stop, they just DID. no matter how easily they could've killed her in the moment.. and then in the end, when she finally lost her first life, it was only on her terms. she allowed herself to be placed in that hole. she only halfheartedly placed that water bucket. she so blatantly let herself die there.

she feels infallible and honestly, she isn't even wrong to feel that way. that said, it will absolutely get her killed eventually.... but right now she's without a doubt the scariest person on this server and this is a hill i will construct with my bare hands and then die on if i must

Eldritch/not-entirely-human Grunkle Stan stories have been eating away at my brain, so I have a silly little concept of Mimic!Stan.

He and his Mystery Shack are both mimics that lure tourists in as a literal "tourist trap" to gather and devour them! Since the house is alive, it raises a few (read: several) child safety concerns that lead to a LOT of rules to be created for Dipper and Mabel to follow when they eventually arrive, such as:

Be careful not to get lost in the winding hallways! The Mystery Shack is bigger on the inside, and you don't want to end up in the wrong areas.

Don't go through randomly appearing doors, they may eat you.

If you think you feel the walls around you breathing and the floor beneath you shifting, no, you don't.

It irritates me alot when people say that making medic more compassionate is ''missing the point of his character'' when he is literally shown to be in the comics.... did you miss the part where he showed concern for both sniper and miss pauling's well being in comic 5 and 6.

His actions are a combination of genuine attachment + clinical interest and these things do not cancel out one another. He is always pushing boundaries and going against the grain and i think this is what led to him losing his license in the first place. He felt stifled by the rules imposed on him.

He is shown to be extremely passionate so it makes sense that he would use his endless fascination with medicine as a way to show his affection. He loves his friends so he will find a way to make them borderline indestructible. Malpractice is his love language.

did you know that in one of dorm epel's voicelines he mentions he once got lost in pomefiore and ended up in a creepy basement. it's never mentioned again or given any clarification and i think about it every day

that comes up a couple of times actually! there's just like...a weird creepy dungeon slash old alchemy lab that the Pomefiore castle was built on top of. I think Vil might use it sometimes? but really it serves absolutely no purpose beyond the characters every once in a while being like "oh yeah, there's that secret underground laboratory we all apparently know about" and then never elaborating on it at all.

(I know it's a movie reference, but it's still pretty wild to just. in-universe have a not-so-secret basement alchemy dungeon that never has any relevance beyond a couple of throwaway lines. what other buckwild secrets does NRC hold that the characters just never talk about for some reason)

there’s such an attitude among ex-christian atheists that religions just spring up out of the void with no cultural context behind them. like ive heard people say shit like “those (((zionists))) think they own a piece of land bc their book of fairy tales told them so!!!” and they refuse to understand that no, we don’t belong there because of the torah, it’s in the torah because we belong there. because we’re from there. the torah (from a reform perspective) was written by ancient jews in and about the land that they were actively living on at the time. the torah contains instructions for agriculture because the people who lived in the land needed a way to teach their children how to care for it. it contains laws of jurisprudence because those are pretty important to have when you’re trying to run a society. same for the parts that talk about city planning. it contains our national origin story for the same reason that american schools teach kids about the boston tea party. it’s an extremely complex and fascinating text that is the furthest thing from just a “book of fairy tales”
