An Australian-led study has found unusual insulating behavior in a new atomically-thin material—and the ability to switch it on and off. Materials that feature strong interactions between electrons can display unusual properties such as the ability to act as insulators even when they are expected to conduct electricity. These insulators, known as Mott insulators, occur when electrons become frozen because of strong repulsion they feel from other electrons nearby, preventing them from carrying a current.

Insulator-to-metal transition achieved in iridate/manganate heterostructures
A research team has successfully achieved an atomically controlled insulator-to-metal transition in iridate/manganate heterostructures. Their findings were recently published in Nature Communications. Conductive interfaces in insulator-insulator heterostructures are central to modern electronics. Compared with a band insulator, a correlation insulator typically has a richer phase diagram that even covers both insulating and metallic states by itself. However, a conductive interface in heterostructures composed of two correlated insulators is rarely reported. In this research, the team investigated the heterostructure of a 5d iridate, CaIrO3 (CIO), and a 3d manganite, La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO). While CaIrO3 is a Dirac semimetal and La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 a robust half-metal, both materials can be stabilized into insulating states under the right conditions. This combination forms a platform to explore emerging metallicity at their interface.

Unraveling the Growth Potential of the Geofoams Market: Global Outlook
The global geofoams market size is expected to reach USD 972.6 million by 2027, expanding at a CAGR of 2.7%, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. Factors such as availability of geofoams at low cost coupled with its superior strength and durability are projected to fuel the market growth. Expansion of the construction industry across the globe coupled with the infrastructural developments in economies such as India, China, Brazil, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and others is expected to propel the demand for geofoams over the forecast period. In addition, maintenance of the existing infrastructure in developed nations is likely to drive the growth of the market.
Geofoams Market Report Highlights
The expanded polystyrene geofoams segment accounted for USD 508.2 million in 2019 and is projected to expand at a CAGR of 3.1% from 2020 to 2027. The compatibility of the product has resulted in its increasing adoption for applications including roads and highway construction, building and infrastructure, and others
The road and highway construction application segment accounted for 38.07% of the total market and is projected to expand at a CAGR of 3.4% from 2020 to 2027 on account of the rising infrastructural growth across the developing economies including China, India, Brazil, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and others
Asia-Pacific accounted for USD 278.5 million in 2019 and is estimated to expand at a CAGR of 3.2% from 2020 to 2027 owing to the rising demand for road pavement, which is anticipated to further benefit the growth
China accounted for the highest market share in Asia Pacific on account of the rapidly expanding construction industry in the country
Europe market is estimated to expand at a CAGR of 2.8% owing to the rising number of construction and infrastructural activities in economies including Spain, Italy, and others
For More Details or Sample Copy please visit link @: Geofoams Market Report
Geofoams are increasingly used in the construction industry as it helps in suppressing the noise and vibrations. In addition, it is easy to handle and does not require any special equipment for installation. The product is increasingly used in the railway track systems, below the refrigerated storage buildings, storage tanks, and others to avoid ground freezing.
The geofoams undergo chemical changes when it comes in contact with petroleum solvents. It turns into a glue-type substance, thereby losing its strength. This factor is projected to limit the use of geofoams in the construction industry which is projected to restrict the industry growth over the forecast period.

Hot damn they're mowing my neighbor's grass right now!
The reason why this is so exciting for me is that the property has been unoccupied for at least 15 years now. They've always used a service to keep it reasonably mowed, so that's not an issue.
What is GREAT is that I know for certain that there hasn't been any chemicals sprayed on the lawn that whole time and that grass clippings are FANTASTIC mulch for my tomatoes. And my yard produces very little clipping because it's a small area of zoysia (thanks to the drought it stayed dormant almost all of last year).
I just transplanted my tomatoes in and that grass is nearly a foot tall right now (first mow of the season). The timing couldn't have been better, though the rain we're going to get tonight means I need to grab my rake and my ikea bag and go gather it up immediately instead of letting it dry out for a few days first.
#i get tons of fall leaves so the lack of clippings mostly even out in terms of composting#but i wasn't looking forward to using my aged wood chips as mulch for the vegetables--too much chance for nitrogen trapping#i put down the straw i had left from fall/winter but while it's great at insulation#it's not great at moisture retention until it flattens and starts to decompose#and after last year i'm a little hung up on moisture retention#gardening#using free materials#grass clippings#mulching

I was thinking about Mimes and hosts and remembered that you said Mimes dies when their host dies if they're in it (a gift of life or something)
what if a Mime takes the host of a Dead!Mime's host? (
The host is still considered occupied, and cannot be hosted. More specifically, that occupation is non-conductive. Mimes cannot host other mimes, alive or dead, because their systems do not harbor electricity/life in the first place. They only have the ability to trigger new energy in something that does harbor such a system.
A dead host!Mime, in this case, is considered still to be a mime, and has hogged all of the space in the body, and has taken over all of it's vitals. It is rendered useless and non-conductive.
#brambleramble#hope thats cohesive!!!!#their stemming through a body acts as an insulation#it contains the conduction within#but the material of themself is non conductive and rather an insulator#like you know how a human being can wear certain kinds of rubber boots and become grounded#and are therefore protected from most electrical shock#it's like that but for the whole body and there's no way to remove it once they've died in there#short from actually flaying the person open and disecting them#and then at that point. it's not even intact enough to host anyways.

Topological defects can trigger a transformation from insulating to conductive behavior in Mott materials
Researchers at Università Cattolica, Brescia campus, have discovered that the transition from insulating to conductive behavior in certain materials is driven by topological defects in the structure. Specifically, a study published in Nature Communications shows that so-called "Mott materials"—a type of insulator fundamentally different from conventional insulators, capable of switching from an insulating to a conductive state (a process known as "resistive switching")—can change state precisely due to topological defects in their crystal structure. This study, conducted specifically on a particular vanadium oxide (V₂O₃), reveals that these defects trigger this transition. The study was coordinated by Professor Claudio Giannetti, director of the Interdisciplinary Laboratories of Advanced Material Physics in the Department of Mathematics and Physics at the university. The study was carried out in collaboration with IMDEA Nanociencia, KU Leuven, SISSA, and Diamond Light Source.
