something so fucked up about Chat Noir’s whole deal is that he is in a lot of ways Adrien playing a character. Like Adrien picked up his miraculous and was told he’d be a superhero so he was like “ok, time to act like a superhero!” and he lets himself have fun w it and play up the role and let loose and kind of just allow himself to be silly and goofy and have fun and for once in his life not care about performing Perfection™.

But. But none of the other characters KNOW THAT. So everyone just sees Chat Noir and is like “look at this guy’s ego. He’s so full of himself. Surely it’d be fair to knock him down a few pegs” without being aware of how few pegs he actually HAS. He’s like the “insecure character who overcompensates in ego” trope except he’s really not doing it unironically, he’s just having a fun LARP pretending to have self worth in his off-hours but nobody else is on the same page about it being a game and he refuses to tell them. He just dramatically pouts about it and lets them laugh and pretends like he’s not internalizing it and it is almost 3 am and my brain forced me to write this instead of sleeping I’m gonna take a melatonin

There’s a feral beast in my mind which only influences me past 10pm and it used to tell me to kill myself but now it just goes “wouldn’t it be so fun to get beaten up? don’t you want to get covered in blood? you’d have so much fun if they broke your nose.” So I don’t know what that is. The best fics are the ones that recognize that although Luke Skywalker may APPEAR on the outside to be a normal friendly twink who happens to have cool powers, especially when contrasted with such ship partners as Boba or Din or even Han, he is arguably the scariest person alive in the galaxy around the prequel era. AND, crucially, he is also a fundamentally weird guy. This man was homeschooled on a rural farm his entire life and then apprenticed to a swamp gremlin who showed him how to tap into the cosmic power of the universe. He blew up the death star age 19, killing approx 2 million-ish Imperials. He is a vortex of Force power that can communicate with the ghosts of dead Jedi. He’s staring into the distance and mumbling to himself and doing Yoda aphorisms and casually pulling out the “yeah I could crush that guy into a paste with my mind (:” and nobody around him knows what to do with that. I think he is a character who has very little frame of reference for how a Jedi or a person in general is supposed to act and there is some thing about him that is by necessity really fucking weird and a little scary but he’s so nice that it can throw you off the scent a little bit. Remembered how when I was a child my Mema would get me 1000-3000 piece puzzles and I’d finish them in an afternoon, laying on the hardwood floors and having exactly zero thoughts other than finishing, and how she would provide me with large stacks of paper and a stapler and let me just…. Gus needs help covering up his presence at a crime scene? Shawn is right beside him making an even worse mess of it.

Gus is taken hostage during a bank robbery? Shawn has somehow found his way into the bank and gets them out.

Shawn needs a distraction while he’s solving the Yang case? Gus is in the room impersonating Michael Jackson.

Shawn is kidnapped and shot? Gus is joining the search for him. And when he tells Shawn not to jump on the blueberry? Shawn abides and finds another way off the runaway truck.

They’re the blueprint for codependent best friends. They wrote the book on it and will literally follow each other to the ends of the earth.
