my post about Danver’s racism hits so much harder knowing now that she had an Indigenous son and she lost him, implicitly to someone white and drunk like the woman she arrests in an early episode. She made a life with a man she loved and she had a baby with him - someone she likely felt growing inside her, that was born with her eyes, that looked nothing else like her but was her baby. Her special little boy. And then this town, out of nowhere, stole him from her in the most horrific way. So love nothing. Protect no one. Let nobody in. the realization that this is impacting me so bad right now because i'm all alone and non-established in this new place i moved into. like i don't yet have a job to distract me from it, i don't have the regular home buzz (including taking care of the house with my mom), and i don't have a social circle to fall back onto except for my two roomies i don't dislike. this is not just lacking distraction but also being inundated with a new type of anxiety and so much of what was keeping me emotionally busy and sane in the meanwhile was this. the show and the community around it, getting creative in fanon, pushing my other online friends to watch the show so i could share it with them. and i now feel empty idk it's stupid but i only get really attached to things when i really need them and this time that thing ended before i could dig my way out

I literally woke up in the middle of the night like God will dark rise is so fucking screwed. The line that’s like. “Everyone wanted to kill the Dark King.” What’s the part where he looks at Violet helplessly, haunted, almost pleading for mercy? But of course he reveals nothing of substance to anyone. Elizabeth is too young to understand but the reader knows what “Her relationship with that boy was…unnatural” can mean. Tying him to bedposts? Failing to strangle him? What else? Never not even once seeing beyond a mythological identity Will himself didn’t know he had? What did he think was the reason? That he was just intrinsically hateful? Of course he says nothing. Of course Violet can’t trust him- he’s given her nothing as painfully real as what she’s given him. So he gives her the sword hoping at least he can die at the hands of someone he loved, but even that doesn’t work out - she gives the sword to a Visander still furious at SARCEAN. The pattern continues; no one looks at Will, who vomits when he realizes what’s happened to James, Will who is much of a liar and killer and sneak as Elizabeth accuses but nonetheless wants to be different. Even when he doesn’t remember his own past. There’s no way out for him that doesn’t hurt. Hope this obsession passes soon given the one and a half years of waiting required for book 3

was kinda thinking about this when I saw Renee Rapp live recently-- I didn't know her visual vibe, I'd heard a few songs here and there but I hadn't really *seen* her, and her attire at Osheaga was really casual, a jersey (baseball/basketball?) and slacks. And that was so amazing! I couldn't help thinking, the work Billie Eilish has done for how women in pop music are allowed to dress is incredible. Seeing her up there all comfortable you just know that Billie walked in her oversized tops so that Renee in her slacks could run; Billie walked through all the critcisms about how she dressed slobbily and having to assert that she didn't owe anyone a display of skin, so that Renee could be comfortable and unquestioned running up and down the catwalk in front of 10,000 people. How iconic.

And I don't think we even realised at the time how much something as simple as letting Billie dress the way she as a (then-) 17-year-old teenager dressed, could end up meaning for a future generation of women in music.

Obviously there is still way to go, there were weirdos complaining about how 'plain' Dua Lipa's Glastonbury outfit was this year (in 2024!!), l have to ask, are you at Paris Fashion Week?? She is the musical HEADLINER of an entire day of music at one of the biggest music festivals in the world, and you can't grant her the space to exist as an artist, you have to moan about her dress not being excitingly revealing enough. There's work to do, it's still dismal out there. But the space Billie Eilish has created for a most ordinarily-dressed woman popstar is still heartening.

Trying to decipher why Cazador would ever turn Yousen, a gnome into a Vampire Spawn. Like what was the point. What audience was he catering too? Like everyone else I can find a reason for:

-Astarion and Petras were conveniently attractive men. They’ll both use similar flirtatious language, so this one isn’t surprising.

-Violet, who I presume to be a singer, makes perfect sense. A young, beautiful woman is perfect for luring people back, and we know she was doing pretty well—considering she was on the favorited spawn ledger one year.

-Aurelia, a naive tiefling woman. It breaks up the species ratio a bit, but it makes sense that he’d want more than just elves and humans, it appeals to a larger audience after all.

-Dalyria, unconfirmed, but quite possibly a drow? Like Aurelia, she would appeal to a larger audience, and plus she’s a doctor. I’ve previously posted my theory (here) on how she was probably “tortured” by being the one to tend to her siblings injuries…

-Leon is self explanatory. He made favorited spawn almost every year. He’s the only one to be recruited into this mess with a child of his own. His clearly was able to do enough to have a child, so this isn’t much of a surprise.

-And then we come down to Yousen. Who just doesn’t fit the criteria I mean, people are canonically so racist towards Gnomes—Astarion barely views them as people, considering he suggests feeding off of them. Like what. Was the point. Where did he come from. Why Yousen. He used to have dialogue saying he was recruited in the last sixty years, so it wasn’t even like he was the last one 💀 I just. I want answers.
