"CREATED IN FULL COLOR USING PRISMACOLOR PENCILS AND SHEETS OF YELLOW, ORANGE, AND RED FILM, IT'S A KNOCK-OUT."
PIC INFO: Resolution at 2050×2517 -- Spotlight on Robert Crumb's "Head Comix" unused cover original art, c. 1968.
OVERVIEW: ""Head Comix" was a title Crumb had played around with quite a bit in the months leading to his first true Underground comic book, "Zap Comix" #1. There are several unused comic book covers with this title that Crumb created in 1967-68, during the time he was getting one-page strips published in places like East Village Other and Yarrowstalks, including pages titled "Head Comix." When Viking Press offered to publish an oversized book edition of those and other strips in 1968, Crumb decided to once again to pull out this favored title, and he created several versions of a cover for the "Head Comix" book.
This spectacular design is one of them, and is perhaps the least known of all the different versions. Created in full color using Prismacolor pencils and sheets of yellow, orange, and red film, it's a knock-out. The animated light bulb was another reoccurring theme; a version made it to the final finished cover, along with an animated tree. Even the lightning bolts that surround the image here made their way to the final design, as small black elements by the "Introduction by Paul Krassner" blurb at the bottom of the cover."

Tuvoktober Day 13: Seven Years Gone [Patreon | Commissions] She doesn't need a doll to bring her comfort. How could she be expected to remember all the nights She spent curled up, warm skin to cold plastic? It all happened when she was three, four, five, six How could she remember the lullaby, the tune of it? The feeling of your hand in her hair The sight of you on your hands and knees, peering into the darkness Then the thrill - the worn doll she swore she'd never lose again Where is it? She doesn't need it anymore, you know But maybe you could find it again Just one more time.
Forgive me Please When I last saw you, you couldn't even put your shoes on the right feet 88% of the time
You had a doll named 'Ure' that you took everywhere with you. I spent so many hours of my life looking for it while you watched, trying not to cry
I was concerned You wouldn't outgrow it
I needn't have worried
You don't need help with your shoes anymore.
Your brothers taught you how to tie them how to get the right foot on the right foot every time
And your mother looked for 'Ure' while I couldn't
"I don't even remember that doll."
I needn't have worried. You outgrew her fine.

“I can't do this without you...”
I am going insane with the Lab Comix Inc. AU by @infini-tree after finding it out last month, and I wanted to make some sort of a "continuation" to that one comic where Melvin didn't get the effect of Poopypants's beam. I just can't stop thinking about how Melvin would probably struggle to help Harold snap out of it since he himself still couldn't get many jokes, and who could think of something you couldn't understand when you're in a distress/panic?

"... FOR MANY PEOPLE, "HEAD COMIX" WAS THEIR FIRST EXPOSURE TO UNDERGROUND COMICS."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on cover art to R. Crumb's "Head Comix" 1st Printing -- Softcover (68 pages), published by New York's Viking Press in 1968. Cover art by R. Crumb. "Head Comix" was the first mass-produced and nationally distributed samplings of Crumb's work just as he was becoming famous, and remains an excellent introductory collection of his early work.
OVERVIEW: The meteoric rise in popularity of Robert Crumb's early work in the "East Village Other" and "Zap Comix" in 1967 and 1968 quickly caught the attention of book publishers in New York, who wanted to cash in on "the fad." Several began vying for publishing rights to Crumb's work, leading to Viking Press rushing out "Head Comix" in late 1968. Viking printed a limited number of hardcover copies of the book along with the standard softcover edition. The 64 interior pages feature an introduction by Paul Krassner ("The Realist"), several comics from "Zap" #1 plus many others that appeared in various tabloid and magazines, like the "East Village Other" and "Cavalier," and some "Fritz the Cat" stories from "Help!"
Crumb didn't like New York book publishers, calling them money-grubbers and schmucks on numerous occasions. He was very agitated when Viking Press censored some of the naughtier parts of his artwork in "Head Comix." Crumb declared "It was ridiculous. They were living in the Victorian era. It made me sick dealing with them." Subsequently, Ballantine Books produced the second and third printings of the book without censorship. In 1988, Simon & Schuster printed a revised edition under their Fireside imprint, with 32 additional pages of comics and a Robert Crumb introduction replacing Paul Krassner's.
Regardless of Crumb's opinion of mainstream book publishers, "Head Comix" was certainly a landmark publication that spread Crumb's new form of comic art across America (and even the world), reaching a more diverse audience than his comic books. For many people, "Head Comix" was their first exposure to underground comics, and it doubtlessly inspired some to seek out and buy more underground comic books and even pursue a career in underground comics (the poor shlubs).
"Head Comix" also provides a representative sampling of Crumb's existing body of work, from the relative innocence of "Fritz the Cat" to the LSD-inspired "Ultra Super Modernistic Comics." Though these comics from 1965-1968 represent what Crumb calls his "innocent period," the concepts behind the signature characters of Mr. Natural, Schuman The Human, Flakey Floont, and Whiteman are well established. Overall, "Head Comix" is a terrific read of the early underground comics by Robert Crumb."

My name is [BRUTUS] and my name means [HEAVY] so with a [HEAVY] heart I'll guide this dagger Into the heart of my enemy
Something about having absolutely no choice in who you marry. About being literally forced by the law to spill blood - to accept this stranger as your husband over a man you truly care for or accept the fact that the man you love might die because you put him in danger. Something about risking becoming the wife of a man you've never even seen before a few minutes prior because you know anything would be better than putting your beloved in harm's way. Something about the trust inherent in that decision and in the way she speaks of it after. Truthfully, T'Pring doesn't know the captain and she doesn't know Spock. Either one of them could have taken her as their wife but she does know Stonn. She knows that Stonn will remain by her side no matter what. They made a plan together. They have an agreement which T'Pring believes will be upheld even though the plan changed with the arrival of Kirk. Stonn will always be there, always, and Stonn will be hers. Something about the language used around T'Pring: Ownership, subservience, non-personhood. T'Pring is an object that Spock can win. She cannot reject him, she has no say in the matter other than having Stonn 'claim' her instead. Even when Spock leaves after being very clearly rejected by T'Pring he says "Stonn, she is yours." as if despite her clear rejection he still owns her and is must formally 'give' her to Stonn. But the language T'Pring uses around Stonn is a break from that: "There was Stonn who wanted very much to be my consort, and I wanted him." Stonn who wanted very much to be HER consort and she WANTED him. The language here is very particular - It's not, for example: "Stonn wanted me to be his wife" - he is HERS. And she WANTS him. There's a mutual affection there and a strong trust - a trust which seems to be well founded since Stonn (though silent) stands by her side at the end of the episode. <- That might seem small but if Spock would reject her for 'daring to challenge' (again, the language is not 'because I don't want you' but more of an implied disgust at her having the AUDACITY to reject him) then it's not a stretch to assume that it'd be considered an insult in the TOS Vulcan society to NOT choose Stonn as her champion after a prior agreement. Anyway T'Pring was a woman in an impossible situation within a society which saw her as more of an object than a person and she wanted Stonn and Stonn wanted to be hers and she trusted that he would understand if she had to publicly pick someone else to ensure his life would be spared and he did understand.
#amok time#T'Pring i s....T'Pring she....-puts my head through a wall-#PLEASE read under the cut for my rambling about T'Pring in amok time pleasepleaseplease#tired of 'T'Pring is evil/a bitch' and VERY uninterested in 'T'Pring is a girlboss'#T'Pring is a person in a society which doesn't think she has the right to make her own choices who's in [love] with a man who [loves] her#back in what I'd like to think is implied to be a slightly subversive way in its mutual and fervent nature (whether the writers thought#this was a good or bad thing - who knows. We know better RIGHT??)#and yes I will stylize T'Pring's hair differently every single time I draw it HEHEHE#star trek tos#Spock#T'Pring#also of COURSE something something spock/kirk & stonn/t'pring parallels: To keep your beloved safe you have to force someone else to kill#theirs - not BC you hate him (you don't) but you don't love him either and why does HE get to have you even if you don't want him?? Why doe#he get to 'give' you to the person YOU chose?? It's not a hatred on a person level (which I wanted to portray with the 'brothers') portion#but a sort of societal embodying.#I will think about T'Pring not wanting to be 'the consort of a legend' every damn day !!!#They really could have laid it on thick in making her evil guys...T'Pau even makes a comment about Spock's 'vulcan blood is thin'#but all T'Pring says is that Spock is a legend and she doesn't want that for her life. She wants Stonn.#And you're gonna sit there and you're gonna tell her that she's wrong!??? Spock doesn't even want to be with her!! Why is she so hated!?#CAN WE FREE MY GIRL??? She did all that but it's being read in the worst faith possible!!#comix page#bea art tag#star trek art#She literally says the word 'FREE'...she's TRAPPED!!!
