Well, I can't not reblog this. I talk about Jewish stuff and the Tanach/Tanakh/Tanah(?)/Tanax(??)/Tanaj(???) semi-regularly, and always complain about transliteration.
A couple of fun facts: firstly, there was an attempt to use the Latin alphabet for Hebrew, supported by Itamar Ben-Avi, Eliezer Ben Yehudah's son. Obviously, it failed. Also, there are four people called Hanoch (חנוך) in the Tanach, and no persistent spelling in any English translation I encountered - two are Enoch, two others are Hanoch. Very smart of the translators!
Oh, and yeah, never trust the HLA. You can look at Itamar Ben-Avi's attempts, though!
Idk how to explain it but
Ezekiel and Yehezkel are not the same name. Vibes are totally different.

— ¿Tienes hijos? —me preguntó.
No me asusta llamarlo alma.
(Hanoch McCarthy)

Good fucking lord I forgot how fucked up translations could be (people talking about Enoch's name's meaning)
Oh and his name is Hanoch to me and my sister. What is Enoch. what was the guy who translated the Bible to other languages on
So wait essentially Hinuch (חינוך) means education or a form of discipline. yes, this

is technically true but hanoch is more like? the name version of the word?
I'm not really into Hebrew linguistically but I have spoken this language my entire life and I know how the words is used from the Tanakh and co
Filoni does have a thing with googling synonyms to a word he wants to be a trait/symbolize something for a character and picking the first result so it's on brand for him but for Hanoch the meaning's more complicated Basically, a more accurate definition would be:
(Yeah I translated meanings from Hebrew with Google Translate lmao)
The thing is, it's a name. It has roots and an underlying meaning but the same word wouldn't mean quite the same thing Hanoch as a word has meaning in Hebrew. It's a command word, you say to someone so they would do something. It's an inflection of the verb for educating.
The word for disciplined/dedicated/trained/educated is, like, Mehunach (מחונך). Hanoch is just not the right way to say that. Also, Hinuch (which is what the verb Hanoch is saying) means this:
So Enoch (Hanoch) from the Ahsoka show is educated and maybe disciplined. Big deal. Unless all Filoni goes by is simple Google searches that shouldn't exactly mean he's dedicated or particularly loyal to Thrawn.
This could've been three sentences I just had no idea what I wanted to say at the beginning and built it on the way
#ahsoka series#ahsoka show#enoch#sw#star wars#WHERE DOES THE DEDICATED PART COME FROM#because that sure as hell isn't what Hinuch means#honestly don't mind me I just see one tweet and get annoying#this IS about star wars worry not#but also about. what the word Hanoch means#funny thing is that enoch slightly sound more like Hinuch than Hanoch#hanoch has a background but as a name it's just a name#sorry about the rant#lmao#you don't need to read all that I just like talking

The Israeli lawmaker from the ruling Likud party, Hanoch Milwidsky, said that "everything is legitimate" when asked whether it was justified to rape Palestinian prisoners.
"To insert a stick in a person's rectum, is that legitimate?" asked Ahmad Tibi, a Palestinian lawmaker during a meeting.
"Yes! If he is a Nukhba everything is legitimate to do him," screamed Milwidsky back.
It’s time to abolish Israel. It’s time to burn this sick society to the ground.

I have no word so I'll just... share it.
For context: the Hebrew calendar is separate and different from the Gregorian calendar, so anniversary dates don't usually fall on the same day.
This is an event for the Hebrew anniversary of the attack on October 7.
This wasn't organized by the Likkud itself according to the article I read, it was organized by the movement Nahala. They're a group that started on 2005, as a response to Israel taking the settlements out of Gaza. They want to settle Gaza again, and their goal is Greater Israel, if you heard the term.
Despite that, they're clearly working with the Likkud, or at least a fair number of its members. As you can see when I translate (roughly because some terms don't have English equivalents).

The Likkud
Preparing to settle in Gaza together with core groups of settlers
In the Likkud's sukka in a huge sukkot city
We're honored to invite you to the event "preparing to settle in Gaza" together with core settler groups, families of hostages, families of soldiers, and bereaved families, as guests in the Likkud's sukka.
A year after the pogrom, we'll stand together, Likkud members, heads of local chapters, ministers and Knesset members.
And we'll declare together - Gaza is ours!
Oh Monday the 19 of Tishrei, 21.10
With blessings,*
The minister May Golan
Knesset Members Avihai Boaron, Sason Guetta, Tali Gotliv, Eli Dallal, Nissim Vaturi, Hanoch Milwidsky, Ariel Kallner, Keti Shitrit, Osher Shekalim
* This line was corrected later, instead of "with blessings" which implies she was the one inviting people, it was changed to "with participation of" because she wants it clear she's not the organizer or host.
There's also the names of Likkudniks who lead local chapters in different cities.
The agenda is leaving in 8:00, having a tour in Kibbutz Nirim, going to the Likkud's sukka, some talks and panels, and then some holiday things.
The article said this event will also have other ministers in it, like Betsalel Smotrich, Itamar Ben Gvir, and Amihai Eliyahu. So, outspoken Kahanists.
MK Vaturi gave the excuse that he wants to see what's happening on the ground, they can't approve funds for rebuilding if they can't see what's needed, so he wants to be with the people and relate to their pain.
Most hostage families are completely against this. The Kibbutz they wanted to tour declared they won't let them do it. They said that they weren't consulted, they still want the government to take responsibility for the events of October 7, and that the Likkud should focus on getting the hostages and rebuilding.

LEAVING ALREADY? This week’s Torah portion, Yitro, is named for the Midianite priest who became Moses’ father-in-law. After hearing of the great miracles performed in Egypt by the God of Israel, Yitro questioned his own belief system and worship of multiple gods. Thirsty to learn more about the true God, Yitro traveled to the Israelites’ camp in the desert. He sat in his son-in-law’s tent for hours while Moses told him about the wonders and triumphs God performed for the Children of Israel. Moses converted Yitro into a member of the tribe, and this former high priest of idolatry became the Jewish prophet’s wise consigliere.Living in the wilderness with his adopted tribe, Yitro’s situation was heavenly. Protected by Clouds of Glory, learning Torah with Moses himself, eating delicious manna that appeared every day. So why did Yitro leave?? Moses saw his father-in-law off, and [Yitro] went away to his land.” (Ex. 18:27) Now that Yitro knew God, why return to a place of idolatry? Rabbi Hanoch Leibowitz (1918-2008) explains that Yitro was so excited about the Holy One, the Torah, and the Jews, that he felt an obligation to share his newfound faith with the family and friends he’d left behind. He was willing to sacrifice the spiritual bliss of dwelling with his tribe in their holy encampment for the chance to bring others closer to God.May we all be like Yitro: humble enough to admit when we're wrong, brave enough to choose a different path, and kind enough to sacrifice everything to help others.Image: “Jethro Advising Moses” (detail) by Jan van Bronchorst, 1659

Jacob’s Journey to Egypt
So Israel set out with all that he had, and when he came to Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. And that night God spoke to Israel in a vision: “Jacob, Jacob!” He said.
“Here I am,” replied Jacob.
“I am God,” He said, “the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will surely bring you back. And Joseph’s own hands will close your eyes.”
Then Jacob departed from Beersheba, and the sons of Israel took their father Jacob in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to carry him, along with their children and wives. They also took the livestock and possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt.
Jacob took with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons, and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.
Now these are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.
The sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.
The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.
The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul.
The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvah, Job, and Shimron.
The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
These are the sons of Leah born to Jacob in Paddan-aram, in addition to his daughter Dinah. The total number of sons and daughters was thirty-three.
The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.
The children of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah.
The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
These are the sons of Jacob born to Zilpah—whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah—sixteen in all.
The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph in the land of Egypt by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.
The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.
These are the sons of Rachel born to Jacob—fourteen in all.
The son of Dan: Hushim.
The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
These are the sons of Jacob born to Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel—seven in all.
All those belonging to Jacob who came to Egypt—his direct descendants, besides the wives of Jacob’s sons—numbered sixty-six persons. And with the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family who went to Egypt were seventy in all.
Now Jacob had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When Jacob’s family arrived in the land of Goshen, Joseph prepared his chariot and went there to meet his father Israel. Joseph presented himself to him, embraced him, and wept profusely.
Then Israel said to Joseph, “Finally I can die, now that I have seen your face and know that you are still alive!”
Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and inform Pharaoh: ‘My brothers and my father’s household from the land of Canaan have come to me. The men are shepherds; they raise livestock, and they have brought their flocks and herds and all that they own.’
When Pharaoh summons you and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’ you are to say, ‘Your servants have raised livestock ever since our youth—both we and our fathers.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the land of Goshen, since all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.” — Genesis 46 | The Reader’s Bible (BRB) The Reader’s Bible © 2020 by Bible Hub and Berean Readers Bible. 2 And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.
3 And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:
4 I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.
5 And Jacob rose up from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
6 And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him:
7 His sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.
8 And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn.

14 And the sons of Zebulun; Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.
15 These be the sons of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob in Padanaram, with his daughter Dinah: all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty and three.
16 And the sons of Gad; Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli.
17 And the sons of Asher; Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister: and the sons of Beriah; Heber, and Malchiel.
18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls.
19 The sons of Rachel Jacob's wife; Joseph, and Benjamin.
20 And unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.
21 And the sons of Benjamin were Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.
22 These are the sons of Rachel, which were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen.
23 And the sons of Dan; Hushim.
24 And the sons of Naphtali; Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.
25 These are the sons of Bilhah, which Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she bare these unto Jacob: all the souls were seven.
26 All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls were threescore and six;
27 And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten.
28 And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.
29 And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.
30 And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive.
31 And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;
32 And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.
33 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?
34 That ye shall say, Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

[instrumental opening]
[Verse A] They found a time to break your heart, eh? And the world like nothing happened, is spinning, eh? what can I say? let's see No, I don't have any clichés to throw around anyway If it hurts, then it hurts I'm here, if you want it, you know, to drink, to pour your heart out It's hard to see you fade away And also, you know what? maybe it's too early to get dirty After all, maybe you will come back, maybe there will still be wedding Actually fuck it, bitch Come on, let them know it hurts Even for Peres they once broke a heart Man, what is he dealing with? Guilt, pity, lonely heart I understand it's a little hard to cheer up But I checked the statistics and hear me out:
[chorus] This too shall pass Like the Kinley, like the Techno, like the Crocs This too shall pass Like the film, like Lior Miller, Samantha Fox This too shall pass Like the CDs, like the Walkman, you'll see soon, yo, yo Time heals everything, it heals everything If not all, the majority and that too will pass
[Verse 2] And the days pass slowly Suddenly the hardest is on Saturday Suddenly advice comes en masse They all became professors at Bassa (gloom, depression, disappointment. From the arab for swamp) Look at the full glass I poured some whiskey in it, it will be enough for another hour I have no advice, because who am I? You're smart, you understand it's temporary Yeah, right, you'll be a little scarred Life is not Seranga, not everything is smooth And how did Hazal say? (short for "our sages may they rest in peace") "Love will come and at the end you will say it was luck" Until then, put the head on a dune In the headphones - Tuna's disc I need you to be strong So that when I'm down, you'll remind me
[chorus] That this too shall pass Like the Kinley, like the Techno, like the Crocs This too shall pass Like the film, like Lior Miller, Samantha Fox This too shall pass Like the CDs, like the Walkman, you'll see soon, yo, yo Time heals everything, it heals everything If not all, the majority and that too will pass

I've been pretty vocal about how Netanyahu and his extremist allies aren't just fighting a war against Hamas or Gaza or even Palestinians, they're waging a war against other Israelis, doing untold damage in the process. This last week gives us a pretty solid example of that.
In case you hadn't heard, accusations arose in the last few weeks of Israeli soldiers torturing Palestinian detainees at what can really only be described as concentration camps. I know that particular word has some history in Israel that's, shall we say, still raw, but that's effectively what they are.
Anyways, these accusations include using stress positions and restraints on prisoners to the point of causing limb damage that resulted in those limbs being amputated as well as accusations of forced sodomy. Needless to say, this isn't the kind of thing that's acceptable in a liberal democracy that's under the rule of law. The response of Netanyahu's governing coalition, however, was less than ideal. Specifically, take a look at the following exchange (Likud is the name of Netanyahu's party, MK is short of Member of the Knesset, the Knesset is the Israeli Parliament):
MK Ahmad Tibi (TA'AL Party): [Is it legitimate] to insert a stick into a person's rectum? MK Hanoch Milwidsky (Likud Party): Yes! If he is a Nukhba [Hamas militant], everything is legitimate to do! Everything!
Source
This was just the tip of the iceberg, however, as far-right Israelis, including the Otzma Yehudit Party, which is a member of Netanyau's governing coalition, summoned settlers and other far-right protesters to the Sde Teiman camp where the abuse was alleged to have taken place to protest against the arrest of the accused soldiers. Among those who came were Amihai Eliyahu, a former Member of the Knesset and current Minister for Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage, Almog Cohen, a current Member of the Knesset, both of the Otzma Yehudit Party, and Zvi Sukkot, a Member of the Knesset for the Religious Zionist Party which is also a part of Netanyahu's governing coalition.
As extremist protests tend to do, this one got out of hand and protesters breached the camp, taking control of a good deal of it. Of the elected officials listed above, Sukkot is known to have entered the camp as part of this breach. At this point, none of them are known to have been arrested for their activity, though opposition parties have condemned them.
Source
In other words, the governing coalition of Israel is now justifying torture, arbitrary confinement, and even murder without due process of law or restriction under the laws of war, putting Israel in the company of the worst dictatorships and human rights abusers in the world. It's getting harder and harder for anyone to credibly argue that Israel shares the values of liberal democracy and is governed by the rule of law when its own government increasingly violates both.
And this is the damage to Israel that will persist long after this current conflict with Hamas is over. If the nation is fortunate, a more ethical and lawful government will come to power and restore some of the damage done, but Netanyahu has stained the reputation of his country in ways that will take a generation or more to wash off.
This is why I say that he's waging a war against Israel and why Israel will not be able to recover or move forward until he and his extremist allies are removed from power.
