Mecha Madness is honestly probably the best part of the comic so far. And I’m pretty fascinated by Mecha Sonic as a whole! The fact that he was actually able to resist Robotnik’s control and hesitated to destroy Knothole. That’s some pretty good stuff right there

I’m gonna assume that these IF!Barus got sent back in time with all their. Issues.

Ayamatsu: They’ve kinda got to take him seriously enough to make sure that he doesn’t Do That again, and it’s not really comic relief anymore if he’s Right There and not just something out of a bad fanfiction. But — yeah, they might be able to. They’ve just got to get it through his thick skull that the world he is in is real and populated by real people whom he should be treating with respect. This isn’t something that would happen immediately, and they’d probably need to keep him under lock and key, but they might be able to figure it out eventually.

Oboreru: They capture him and release him into a maximum-security cell decorated with a large bed, plenty of blankets and pillows, and an army of soldiers right outside the door. If they can make Subaru feel that this room is safe and secure, then they can eventually use it as an anchor from which he can be escorted out and slowly readjust to the world around him. Wrath!Baru main problem is that he is this paranoid mess of a man that is constantly afraid of being betrayed, and his main threat to them is his Pleiades organization. If they can put him in a position where he can’t leverage his criminal organization against them (because it doesn’t exist), then they don’t have to worry about him killing them and can focus on helping him recover. And if they can construct an environment that is quiet, secure, and predictable, then recovery may indeed be possible.

Sloth:IF: Honestly Sloth!Baru never even really did anything wrong, his only real sin was that he could never come to terms with what happened that day he left. Even if he had never gone back in time they could help him: just get him in therapy to confront his inner demons and realize that 1) the Witch Cult was not his fault and 2) him running to the other side of the world to live a long, safe, and happy life with Rem is EXACTLY what Emilia would have wanted him to do, and he doesn’t have to feel guilty about keeping himself safe. The main issue is honestly that if he goes back in time he loses his wife and kids and — the grief from that would legitimately break him.

Kasaneru: I actually think that things can still be fixed in canon!Kasaneru. Nobody is dead, and so things can still be fixed, because healing is always possible so long as you’re not dead yet. I actually really like the idea of Greed!Emilia learning about RBD and — instead of letting it break her further — finally finding the strength to grow and break free of her chains on her own, leading everyone against Subaru so that he can finally be forcibly resigned and put to rest. In a time-travel scenario, meanwhile, their main issue is keeping Greed!Baru away from anything he can use to kill himself and making sure someone is watching him at all times as they force-feed him therapy about the value of his life. Constant surveillance and plenty of security measures and they indeed might manage to pull it off. —And also they’d need to destroy his connection with Echidna, if possible.

Tsugihagu: If they had the proper context as to why the fuck Subaru is like this, then they’d probably be able to solve it just by having a conversation with him about who he is to them, why they like him, and how any Subaru is a good Subaru, memories or not. The main issue would be the Books of the Dead and how he now has schizophrenia and also an unnerving amount of knowledge about half the cast, which. They could probably deal with that with time but it’s kind of unnerving at the moment.

This was originally a scrapped Movie Amy AU but I’m bringing it back for funzies.

I think this AU was inspired by strange things to some extent (which might be one of the reasons I scrapped it).

Context

What if that farmer in Green Hills from the first movie took Amy in.. and failed to tell the Wachowski family?

There is not much known about the farmer from the first movie so I’m just gonna make stuff up🤷🏾‍♀️😋. Also don’t remember if the farmer had a name so I’ll call him Rob for now.

-Rob doesn’t always know when to ask for help or when to tell someone something important. It’s not that he doesn’t want any help or is incapable of saying things that need to be said. He just has horrible timing when it comes to these things. It was a thing that he was working at. Unfortunately for Rob fate was never on his side when it came to this habit evidently when a certain pink hedgehog found her way into his barn.

-Amy Rose is a hedgehog echidna hybrid who resided in Knuckles’ old tribe. She was born from a fortune teller hedgehog and a “traitorous“ echidna warrior. When the tribe learned of their comrade’s treachery both he and the hedgehog were deposed of. Amy would have met the same fate that day if it weren’t for the gift she inherited from her mother. So She was hidden by the chief and elders of the tribe to use for their own gain. Not many of the tribe members outside of the chief and the elders knew of Rose’s existence, though their whispers of her presence. Those whispers never held enough weight to investigate or challenge their respected leader or wise elders.

-Amy was mistreated and used by the tribe for most of her captivity until one of her fortune tellings led to the tribe’s end.

-When she finally realized her captors were no longer there she escaped to the outside world. For a while she fought, hid, and survived in the sometimes unforgiving worlds she traversed until she arrived in Rob’s barn.

-Since the pink hedgehog’s arrival, Rob has been trying to find the right time to tell Tom about her. Unfortunately, it was never the right time or place. First, it was cuz the Wachowski family was adjusting to Sonic then tails and knuckles, and then the shadow incident ( this AU is assuming Ames isn’t in 3). He just couldn’t bring himself to unload another situation on them while the fam was adjusting or handling new problems.

-Eventually, Rob does tell Tom but he unfortunately didn’t consider that it wasn’t the right time for Amy, Especially when a certain blue hedgehog overheard the conversation. Leading said hedgehog to excitedly rush over to the barn where an unprepared, skittish, and slightly feral pink hedgehog resided. Oops.

Bonus:

-Amy arrived a couple days after the events of the first movie.

-Knuckles was not aware of Amy’s existence, though he might’ve had an encounter with Rose in his youth that he suppressed.

-Due to her upbringing Amy is feral and very skittish. Despite being wary of newcomers she’ll fight if she feels backed in a corner or if she feels something/someone she cares for is being threatened. She’ll run or hide first then fight and defend if necessary. (Don’t worry this version of Amy still grows into the bubbly girly hothead that we all know and love. It’ll just take a while to get there).

- I’m not sure if I want it to be intentional or not that Amy led the echidnas and Longclaw to their demise. Either way, Amy would feel extremely guilty about her actions once it becomes clear what her final reading to the tribe had caused.

- Amy has most of the appearance of a hedgehog but she has red hands and feet, clawed knuckles, and a longer tail from her echidna side.

- Amy has central heterochromia.

- due to her hands and feet appearing like they're stained with blood she becomes self-conscious of these features. So she later wears gloves and boots to cover it.

-Rob or Sonic (maybe both) got Amy her first dress while Sonic made her a flower crown.

So… Sonic was indirectly responsible for Tom getting hurt? That's some cruel irony right there

Just as he was indirectly responsible for losing Longclaw.

Sonic was being Sonic. In Longclaw's case, he was a little boy, a teeny hoglet who wanted to run. Now, whether he actually led the echidna to Longclaw is a point of speculation, since the echidna were already surrounding the hut when he arrived. The only way they could have followed him was if he did this regularly enough, and they eventually were able to follow him back to the hut and scout it, discovering Longclaw's existence.

But after their attack, the only reason Longclaw stayed behind was to keep the echidna from following Sonic to Earth. She sacrificed herself for Sonic, which meant that if Sonic weren't there, she wouldn't have died. She would have likely escaped through a ring herself, without the fear of the echidna getting to a little toddler hedgehog.

(And yes, there was obviously time for her to join Sonic through the ring, I'm not sure why she didn't.)

In the case of Tom, if Sonic hadn't goofed off in London and instead gone straight to the HQ, there is a chance he could have gotten there in plenty of time to snatch the key and get out before Rockwell had an opportunity to nab him, thus giving GUN the time to apprehend Tails and the Wachowskis, and thus requiring Knuckles to 'break glass', which caused problems of its own.

This may have been why Sonic was as angry and guilty as he was when Tom was hurt. He had memories of what happened to Longclaw flickering through his mind, and he could have brushed off what happened then as him being "just a kid" who didn't know better and thus couldn't really help it. But now, when his father figure was gravely injured, in a plan that he himself may have admitted he didn't take as seriously as he probably should have . . .

That guilt would have slammed into him like a freight train.

And guilt has a way of fueling anger, which is what was motivating Sonic in his quest to take down Shadow.

He couldn't save Longclaw. He couldn't save Tom. But those feelings of helplessness, of guilt, of self-hate needed an outlet.

Knuckles recognized that. Left alone, or pushed down, those feelings would grow and fester, eating at Sonic until they turned his heart black. So Knuckles did for Sonic what no one did for him.

He gave Sonic the outlet he needed to expel those feelings. He knows the cathartic feeling of physical activity releasing pent up emotions. The arenas were the perfect way for him to get rid of those unnamed feelings in his own chest, all those years ago.

But he also knew Sonic's heart, and trusted that the hedgehog wouldn't do something he'd regret once that anger had burned itself out. That he wouldn't trade one layer of guilt for another.

Recently, I was reminded of my loathing for the Archie Sonic comics and decided to search for critical posts on it, mostly to see if I was alone when it came to my personal opinions on certain characters. I stumbled upon your 'anti archie sonic' posts, and I have to say, I've learned soo much about Achie Sonic, such as 'who was responsible for what' type info, but now, I just have to say I'm so shocked that Flynn was the one responsible for so many elements of Archie Sonic that I hate with all my soul. I was only familiar with his writing on IDW Sonic and Sonic Frontiers, and I held him in such high regard as a Sonic writer. You have no idea how mind-blowing it is for me to learn that he was the one behind the whole Sally Acorn worship problem that the comics had, or how much of an asshole Sonic himself was portrayed under his writing, or how Sonally was forced down our throats. It completely flipped my thoughts on the guy and his work. I still like IDW Sonic (I know it's not perfect but my god is it better than Archie, and the new characters are so fun, Surge has to be my fav rn), and I'm liking where the games are heading with the writing (again, I quite enjoyed Forces and how the characters were handled). But now? now I can't help but wonder, did Flynn truly learn from these awful characterizations he gave Sonic and others in Archie? Is there anything, in your personal opinion, that he improved on? Is he better than he was before?

Whilst Flynn's work on pre-reboot Archie was for the most part awful, I still think that a big part of what makes it so bad is actually Penders' doing. Hordes of supremacist Echidna's who are all Knuckles clones? Penders. Knuckles taking the spotlight over Sonic and having the most influence? Penders. Disingenuous and highly disrespectful plagiarism of a real world Holocaust poem? Penders. Plan to kill-off Sally? Penders. Tooting the horn of canon foreigners to the detriment of game characters? Flynn has a huge hand in that and is still doing it. But Penders is guilty of it too. As for your question there, no, I don't think Flynn has learned much at all. He still harbors amateur-level writing habits he should've grown out of 15 years ago. And is still fixated on Archie so much that many elements of it are still present in IDW in all but name. Hell, the Metal Virus was an Archie leftover planned for around issue #300 had the book not been cancelled. Not to mention that fundamentally wrong interpretation he has of multiple characters and the morphing of them into something they're not for the sake of plot. Though it would be disingenuous to believe that IDW's problems are solely due to Flynn - Stanley is a problem too. Such as making game characters incompetent to make canon foreigners more important and/or competent.
