Finally caught up on How to Catch a Fallen Star by @samthefrank and @humanityinahandbag and I needed to capture the absolutely heart wrenching and pathetic energy of chapter four;A;

so we are all kiinda aware that the sonic movies keep getting the studio breathing down their necks telling them to have less scenes with the mobians so they dont have the animate it. like they've never SAID that but with the fact we know for a fact the first movie was not allowed to get made unless there was a human sidekick, the entirety of the knuckles show, etc., i think we can reasonably assume that they have a lot of those human-centric scenes just so that they don't have to pay for the effects on sonic team and can rush the movie out faster

so with that being said. do we think that mr jeff fowler was tired of this bullshit and said "okay. okay we'll do human-focused scenes. we'll do that. BUT. you will have to do the effects. for TWO JIM CARREYS. now give us eighteen-hundred metal sonics or we add a third"

for reference, I do not think there is a SINGLE living entity in ANY iteration of Sonic the Hedgehog that Eggman would trust. Eggman relies almost entirely on robots, with varying levels of AI, with both hardwired obedience and hidden dopamine subroutines to encourage them to advance his interests on their own initiative.

It's truly astonishing how we're 3 movies deep, and there's still ZERO straight explanation for Robotnik and Stone's relationship.

Like yeah when 1 came out, it was good fun shipping them after the whole "pin yourself to the wall" thing and those of us who saw the potential would've stayed Stobotnik truthers regardless of what direction the following movies took. No one was expecting like... actual canon evidence tho??? In 2 Stone is shown to be visibly depressed when Ivo is gone, draws detailed latte art of their faces with tiny hearts, and has no desires other than to be in his presence once he's back (also the maid outfit lmao). Ivo, despite hating all of humanity, not only lets Stone stick around well after they've left the government, but is allowed to see him at his lowest, SHAVE HIS HEAD, and in general get closer to him than anyone else ever has in his life. (Slight S3 Spoilers but he also literally refers to Stone as "the only person he can trust" 😭, which I reacted totally normal to btw).

That's without even mentioning their natural chemistry (courtesy of Jim and Lee), or the way Stone is so down bad he looks at Ivo like he's hung the stars, or THAT PART in 3 that's basically all the confirmation I need. There's wayyy more here than an average toxic boss/henchman dynamic, and watching this all unfold in real time over the last (almost) 5 years had been such a chaotic delight. It's never not crazy to me how all of this started simply cause the filmmakers decided to give Jim Carrey someone to work off of 🤖🪨❤️

I talk about the specifics of Ivo and Stone’s dynamic (which can be considered platonic or romantic) in my Sonic 3 review so I hope you’ll give it a read! But here are my personal thoughts/headcanons of it as a ship:

Robotnik and Stone's chemistry is through the roof! I think Ivo pushes Stone away because he's never experienced affection and doesn't recognize it -- he just interprets Stone sticking around as blind allegiance to his evil schemes. Meanwhile, I think maybe Ivo's genius is what appealed to Stone in the first place and why he signed up as a henchman, but he quickly developed feelings for the doctor and is more focused about the doctor being happy and helping him achieve his dreams than he is about world domination.

Also, when Ivo chose to sacrifice himself to save the world, he specifically calls out Stone by name! He dedicates "his final livestream" to him, which I interpret as "I'm ending this for you." And he does it in front of the ENTIRE WORLD! That's love, baby!

It's funny. For the past.. years, all my life revolved around the doctor. But now, I don't- I don't have anything left of him. All our bases were eventually destroyed, the Badniks are probably in the bottom of a river, I could do anything; the slates wiped clean. But here I am, looking for traces of him.

He called me his friend; can you believe that? Doctor Robotnik, the god amongst men, the biggest genius of the world past and future, called me his friend. And all it took was a sacrifice to save the world, to save the people who left him behind and won't give a damn about him, come tomorrow morning. I didn't- I don't- want him to be a hero. I don't have the right to change his mind, and I will never put him at fault but he left me and I couldn't protect him. I'd rather stay by his side as an aide than have him leave behind his only friend.

I'm not sure when but at some point my admiration for him became something too.. personal, to be professional. Maybe I saw him act too human and I wanted to be human together. The doctor liked to present himself as a cynical machine, a monster created by society who had risen above beastly instincts to be its master. It's not like he isn't that, it's more like he acts like that because in his eyes everyone is the enemy. I don't like to speculate about him because then he'd have my throat but well. I think he so quickly took to his grandfather because machines don't have family and his grandfather so quickly broke that part of him by merely existing. (I wish I could've done that.) It's like some Greek tragedy isn't it? God turned man by family, before being backstabbed by it. Maybe he'd like that narrative, dramatic and such. Maybe he wouldn't like how personal it is. I wish I was important enough to have my own story. (No that's not right, I wish I was important enough to Him to be apart of his.)

I agree with your headcanons and actually share some them myself. I definitely hope for Amy's little bird friend as well. It will show off her compassionate personality with her love of animals. 🥰

I do believe Amy believes in a prophecy that Sonic will to be the Hero of the universe. Maybe she was raised by someone with the ability to tell the future rather than being dependent on cards instead.

I read ur post about Knux being camera-shy and it made me think of, when I've seen them in wild, how echidnas will tuck their heads in under their body when threatened. Its v cute, bc they'll just be walking along and it just looks like they're slamming their heads into the ground when startled. Idk I just find the image of Knux doing that v funny

Giggling at the idea of Knuckles attempting to curl into a ball upon inconvenience like his brothers but he’s a little bulkier and can’t do it as efficiently so he just slams his head into the ground😭

Alright let’s do this, Knuckles Wachowski headcanons part 4

He’s Ozzie’s favorite. I have nothing to support this by vibes and one fic I read. Just Knuckles loving to (gently) rough house with him and play tug of war. Ozzie is technically a hunting/working dog so I can see the two of them having fun in the woods tracking things. Knuckles also teaching Ozzie so many tricks and skills to aid him in his responsibility as a “guard dog”. Ozzie can open doors now and no one is safe

I really like the idea of Knuckles having met Rouge during his search. Them semi frequently teaming up when they come across each other while following the same lead for where the Master Emerald is located. Rouge always betraying him but only kinda, she makes sure he’s not in danger of being killed or captured or something like that and the Master Emerald wasn’t there (only some other treasures she took anyway) so not like he’s losing something. He leaves her behind often in return, not full betrayal because honor wouldn’t let him but he’s too experienced with her not to know that her betrayal is likely coming. Outside of all that they do get along really well. They both enjoy their banter and she’s one of the first people he can relax a little around and just be kinda normal. He’s unfortunately fond of her which is why he always agrees to team up when they see each other. She’s the closest thing to familiarity and a friendly face he knows

Similarly I also love the idea that he knows Amy from his time in gladiator rings or running from scavengers that want to capture him. Just the idea of them being shield brother and sister is so cute to me! It’s also refreshing to have an actual challenge when they spar with each other

Let him have some decent periods in his life during that decade long search 😭
