RC COLA PHILIPPINES - "CheckMoMataMo.mp4" Ad (2020)
The unsettling yet profoundly meaningful advertisement by RC Cola entitled "CheckMoMataMo.mp4" aired in December 2020, shows a band of four practicing and rehearsing when suddenly the group's lead vocalist stopped, expressing unhappiness and disconsolation in the middle of rehearsal, thus, causing confusion within the band. With this in mind, the advertising showcases the lead vocalist extending and rotating her arm, revealing the RC Cola inside her arm. At the same time, she describes how she differs from the other members of the group. However, a group member quickly assessed her feelings, removing their sunglasses and exposing their eyes as an ice dispenser. This demonstrates how the ice complements the commercial drink RC Cola. Hence, the advertisement's unpredictive nature references and emphasizes that regardless of the distinctiveness and differences you feel around people, someone will always make you feel at home and like you belong, complementing each other.
RC Cola Philippines was known for advertising bizarre ads with deep meaning; thus, the mentioned advertisement gained 7.2 Million views, with its central target audience being Gen Z or the post-millennial. As a result, this advertisement aimed to appeal to and distinguish the brand in the minds of Gen Z drinkers. Although the advertised product was a carbonated drink, also known as RC Cola was generally not healthy as it contains much sugar causing diabetes and weight gain, which may be viewed as promoting unhealthy living among the Gen Z audience. It is essential to mention, however, that RC Cola Philippines was recognized for pushing and advertising bizarre adverts with significant value in society, reflecting people's lives and minds, particularly Generation Z. Moreover, the advertised product does not contain forms of Media Manipulation; still, it was able to capture the attention of the viewers, mainly Gen Z, due to the absurdism and unpredictive nature of the ads, which then reflects Gen Z's laissez-fair attitude toward everyday decisions resulting to increased attention to the viewers and Gen Z.
In all, the commercial ad for the product RC Cola was a bit unsettling yet creative and meaningful, which was a total success and effective in terms of the target audience and increased sales. According to (Neil, 2021), sales of RC Cola Mega in the Philippines surged by 67% after its video campaign went viral online. Hence, within 24 hours after its debut on December 2020, the commercial received 130,000 shares and 203,000 responses, was the top-trending subject on Twitter for two days because of its bizarre and creepy subject matter with a profound deep meaning behind the actions, which appeals to the hearts and minds of the Gen Z in this generation.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT "SKIBIDI" AND "SIGMA" MEANS I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT FOR A WEEK AND IT KEEPS POPPING UP IN YOUR BLOG AND I'M SO CONFUSED 😭😭😭😭
AAAA I love people who ask me open ended questions,, you're basically allowing me to yap 🫶🫶🫶
It all starts with Gen Z, you could say. The thing with Gen Z is that we're so sarcastic it's CRAZY. I mean, we got lots of terms that millennials can barely wrap their head around. It's like only we can understand this dumb humour. Like obviously, we say "rizz" (short for charisma: a charm) and "GYATT" (usually popular in African-American environments, short for goddamn),, but the thing is, we say that stuff ironically (in a sarcastic manner).
But there's Gen Alpha, basically people who are born after 2010 (until 2025, starts gen beta). And these kids are like brainrotted to the EXTREME. Keep in mind, brainrot usually means people who are too chronically online and sometimes can only speak in internet slang...weird. Gen Alpha is responsible for creating or popularizing some terms. These include a LONG list, I'll try to explain as much as I can here...
Sigma: the equivalent of alpha, an individual who's viewed as dominant.
Skibidi: short for Skibidi Toilet, a series made up of short videos created by DaFuq!?Boom! On YouTube.
Cap: a lie. Usually used in phrases like "No cap!" (No lie) Or "That's cap!" (That's a lie)
Slay: Something done impressively or greatly. Usually used between females but it's NOT restricted to that. used In phrases like "you slayed that/you ate that!"
Sus: Suspicious, unsettling
GOAT: abbreviation for "greatest of all time". Like in "Ronaldo/Messi is the GOAT"
Clout: popularity. Example— "I did that for clout"
Flex: to show off
Bop: Bae of plenty, someone who is seen as a player
Cancel: Cancel culture is pretty much getting celebrities banned off social media platforms. For example, many people want to cancel Andrew Tate.
Noob: newbie, someone who is a rookie. Either new to a game or bad at a game.
Drip: how cool your outfit looks. Like seeing a kid with a hoodie and saying "Damn, that kid got drip!"
Dope: The equivalent of Rad, something that's cool.
Dupe: yes, there's a difference. Dupe is like a knock off or a fake.
Lit: the same meaning as dope. usually something fire, as in it's awesome.
Stan: to be a huge fan of someone. Others can interpret it as a stalker fan, but the first definition is more popular.
Fanum tax: popular streamer Kai Cenat is friends with another streamer known as Fanum. Fanum often appears in Kai's streams to steal food from Kai. Fanum tax has become a popular term between fans indicating someone is stealing your food. Sometimes used in percentages. For example, my best friend casually fanum taxes 85% of my lunch every other afternoon.
Mewing: a technique used to sharpen your jawline, where you put your tongue at the roof of your mouth—often not allowing you to speak.
Edging/gooning/surfing: (Sorry asexuals..) a sexual practice involving controlling your 0rgasm.
Glazing: to over-hype something or give something so much compliments and attention it has gotten cringe worthy.
Tweaking/tripping: to act energetically or even unintelligently under the influence of crack/drugs, used sarcastically.
Aura: an imaginary calculation method of how much power or reputation you have. For example, falling In front of a group of teens means you have lost aura, or power. You can say that's -500 aura (points). Or maybe helping a homeless man. That's +5000 aura. Memes go around like "the golden dog", a card that makes you immune to losing aura.
Of course there is MUCH more. and Gen Alpha creates new terms every other weekend that it's starting to get tiring keeping up with these trends. Unless you're on the internet 24/7/365, then you'd surely know all of these and spontaneously use them. But I don't, so there's a lot I missed here, at least i believe so😭😭
The problem is, gen alpha uses all these different words and terms UNIRONICALLY. Meaning that they're actually serious. And oh, trust me they will look at you weird when you use an outdated word like "lol", "yas", or "YOLO".
So... Who can we blame for this ridiculous behaviour? Obviously, no other than millennial and generation Z parents. In my personal belief, Gen Alpha being on the internet from such a young age is seriously a bad idea. I mean, I have not one, but TWO (2) gen alpha siblings. You can imagine how hard it is from me... My 5 year old cousin goes to kindergarten and he says that he "rizzed" a girl at his class, which got him +10000 aura. Yeah, even I can't believe what this world has come to.
But from another perspective, we can do nothing about it. Maybe it's a good thing to let gen alpha on the internet? After all, we can't keep taking steps back, saying we need to quit phones and cellular devices in general. All we can do, really, is just let the future unfold. A few decades away from now, Generation Gamma or Delta or whatever, is gonna be laughing at gen alpha saying they're as old as time, probably holding a portable toilet in their hands. we never know what the future brings us🤷‍♀️
So that's it, sorry for answering your silly little question with a whole essay 🙏 thank you all for coming to my ted talk.

Can i get more passage of time/music development yapping ☹️☹️☹️??? I give you official permission to yap the most you can im so interested
YES YES YES YES YES I LOVE THIS ASK
warning beneath the cut SCARY WALL OF TEXT WARNING 😱
decided to divide it into colored parts if you dont gaf about certain elements 😭
second warning all of this is unedited rambling so some points might contradict each other or just plain not make sense.
okay so for CONTEXTTTTT
i have diagnosed OCD, and like, roughly since the end of last year and the beginning of this one, the 'obsession' part of OCD that was negatively affecting me, was the concept of time. how fleeting it was. how it's basically unescapable ALL THINGS MUST PASS (get out of my head george harrison) that shit proper cold dead SCARED ME MAN. sleepless & haunting me in my dreams type shi. sometimes it still does. i try not to think about it too much
to cope, i found great comfort in the 70s-80s since at the time i was and still am hyperfixated on david bowie and that was sort of his prime (love his 90s-00s work tho.) i was also starting to think of how much parallels and similar experiences i have to previous generations and how it's not ALL that bad after all so far. i can still walk to a record store and roller skate if i really wanted to, or go to a diner.
okey here's where the life changing stuff happens. i decided i'd listen to pink floyd's the dark side of the moon. then TIME CAME ON. ohhhh god oh gosh golly god i was bawling and everything the whole song spoke to me on a molecular level. then i found out about DB's song also called time, and i ALSO crode to that. i was like. wow. i'm not alone on this feeling of utter desperation and helplessness as eventually all things Must Pass. (GEORGE HARRSION GTFO)
i used to be bitchy on how i whined i was part of the 'wrong generation.' i thought i was alone, but virtually everyone of almost every era has thought this. somebody who lived my dream life wished they had what i have now.
that's when i started to lowkey realize the parallels and oneness of human experience. i could go to a club in the 70s, and (granted the infrastructure and music remains similar) i could today. nothing would change on how i perceive events. there is no color filter on the past. unless you got huge TVs and stuff all over your house, you could walk around, and think it's the 80s. AND IT'S BASICALLY THE 80s. the way your parents or any other gen Xer saw the world with their *eyes* (not counting the changes in buildings and stuff) is the same as you today pretty much.
i already really enjoy subcultures, and particularly how they evolve and adapt. the indomitable human spirit prevails no matter how gentrified or 'banned' things become. nowadays i feel like there is No Youth Subcultures. at least, none that will pass the test of time and be memorable enough to be remembered in the books. nobody's gonna go to their child and proudly say: "when i was your age, i was a chav" or something. and i credit this to the lack of creativity allowed in the wider music industry.
HEAR ME OUT this is because 90% of youth subcultures had everything to do with music. and now, everything must be palatable. to be clear there's nothing inherently wrong with that type of music, but to me it speaks no soul. it has no risks. contemporary pop music is very much formulaic and this is because now more than ever entertainment (this also applies to movies btw) is more of an investment than passion. I WILL SPECIFY.
music production is so vastly different genre to genre, and we're not letting it flourish because of how much short form content is valued nowadays. LET ME COOK.
tiktoks are formulaic. algorithms are formulaic. WE'RE GETTING SOMEWHERE. there must be an instant hook or rift in music if you want to 'go viral' as a musician. digitized fame doesn't mean SHIT (to me), since clearly monthly listeners don't equate real world fans. album sales are being replaced with streams, and because of how ASS spotify treats its artists, newer, less established acts need to GET ON THE GRIND INSTANTLY to earn Coin. that means that to be smart and work with the exploitative system they're given, they have to make albums filled with 1 minute 30 second songs. so you can technically give them the most amount of streams possible. i feel with this formulaic approach, you can't get 6 minute long gutwrenching guitar pieces. no more 4 minute drum solos, hell avant garde experimental works were 2 people shout their names out at each other for 20 minutes. THERE ARE NO MORE FRANK ZAPPAS.
i'm not going to be one of those sad assholes who claim there's 'no more good rock music' and how it'll never be the same. as corny as this is, the next beatles or nirvana could be right under our noses and we'll NEVER know because of how fame is distributed. it sucks to see a small band beg on tiktok for streams to kickstart their career. but this is what we gotta work with. if we want subcultures to be created and thrive, we gotta go looking underground again, except unlike in the past it's a kajillion times easier now AND everything gets gentrified in 2 tiktok weeks. but this is evolution. MUSIC EVOLUTION
the end honk shoo honk shoo (it's midnight)

That older generations always criticized younger ones' taste in music is no novelty (old man yells at cloud). It's a fact of time and aging (when we become older, we're less flexible + tolerant to new ideas). Furthermore, traditionally, older generations criticized newer ones because of being 'too rebellious', 'too loud', too 'progressive in ideas' and 'too out there'. However, when a Gen Xer criticizes Gen Z's music it is quite often because of the opposite: it lacks the rebelliousness, loudness, and experimentation our generation's music had. Rock, the ultimate loud, iconoclastic, and rebellious genre of music is basically extinct. The Gen Z top 40 is traditionally poppy and agreeable with the status quo. So doesn't it seem the opposite? Am I really old, or is this generation too conformist in terms of music? Bob Dylan called this generation's music 'too smooth and painless' and people being now 'pill poppers, cube heads and day trippers'. If that's an old man yelling at the sky, is the average Taylor Swift listener an iconoclast and a punk? Am I the only one who doubts the latter?
P.S. There has never been in history more diversity and creativity in music than there is now in the Internet/Information era, yet music has never sounded more the same and you gotta spend hours to find something listenworthy outside the top 100 on Youtube/TikTok, while we, Gen Xers had experimental/alternative music in the Top 40 (admittedly, amongst a LOT of crap). Gen Z is politically superior to the coward Gen X, a big part of it is the contemporary 'hippie' generation, just not in terms of music, and that's what this rant is all about.

Chapel Roan, 26, is perhaps the first representative of an American culture that finally understands the necessity of escaping stuntedness. Freeing itself from narcissism and mental illness. Well, those with half a brain cell have already done so, but the task is not done because the biggest idiots remain in power in all domains of American life—the family, the government, the media.
