So, a year now. A year in the life of Ukraine and her people. A very hard year, a devastatingly horrid year that didn't have to happen. It began with a telling sign of how determined Ukrainians are to keep their land, state, and peace of mind. "Russian warship, go fuck yourself." So telling of the Ukrainian spirit that it was made into a stamp. One I wear today. And it's something I feel strongly about as well.

At least Boris Johnson got one thing right, "you don't negotiate with an alligator that's eating your leg." Many other leaders and would be leaders of countries not currently being invaded condemn Zelenskyy for not negotiating, fuck that shit. To any American who thinks Ukraine should stop fighting I say fuck that shit.

I'm about to reblog some posts my wife made that really hit hard on me. Hit hard because they make me think through my own comfortable status as an adult white male and the privileges that are inherent in this society because this country existed for millennia as not America. Do I really understand that? Probably not, or at least not to the extent others (non-whites) do. All I can do is take others' point of view as real and valid.

Which is why I stand so firmly behind the Ukrainian people. When Zelenskyy says Ukraine is fighting for its freedom, European freedom and the very life of democracy, I believe it. I believe it because I know the the history of colonialism, I see from the inside how a democracy is subverted by fascism, and I fear for this people- the "others", others meaning any non-white heterosexual male person.

I'm not saying be consumed by fear and hatred, I'm saying live your life purposefully. Take your joys and live them deliciously. Look into life's heart every day and live for the ones who can't. Ukrainian soldiers have told their people over and over, we want you to live your lives, drink your coffees, gather together for celebrations, that is what we are fighting for, that is the life waiting for us when we have defeated this enemy.

LET ME EXPLAIN

Economic growth is based off of a balance between utilitarianism and deontology (opposite of utilitarianism). The more utilitarian an economic system is, the more you can expect the economy to grow, but the more you can expect average lifespan and happiness to go down.

China's economy grows so quickly because of utilitarianism. Everyone who is able to work has to, no matter of age. Not only that, they use sweatshops for almost all jobs, which leads to horrible working conditions everywhere. The well-being of workers is not considered at all. Plus, when you take into account the massive population of China, this all leads to a very bad way to have fast economic growth.

America's economy, on the other hand, is in no way better. Although it does have almost double the improvement of working conditions, you would expect our economy growth to be half that of China's (double money spent on working conditions, half money growth in economy). However, this is not the case, and it is actually 6 times less than China's.

So where does the extra money go? The answer, as we all expected, is to rich people. The extra money that would normally be spent on economic growth is instead fed to the rich. Because of how capitalism works, class is based off of money. The rich, in order to get richer, must get more money, and feed off of the economy in order to get richer.

Communism, on the other hand, has its class system based off of social credit. Social credit, while shown as simple usually, is actually quite unsimple. What is important in this case is that, and I cannot stress this enough, it is impossible* to gain power through any legal means. There is no reason for the people in power to keep their workers down, because they will be shot if they try to compete with you. For this reason, they have good means to make whatever contributions they can to the people in order to try and keep them "happy". That usually involves something that grows the economy instead of something to actually make people happy because of how utilitarian the country is.

In conclusion, both forms of economy suck in different ways. China has potential to be much better if it can deal with its population crisis without mass genocide, and capitalism doesn't even work in theory.

*ok so its not actually impossible per say, but it wont ever happen without being born into power

if you been here for long enough you probably know that even me fucking explicitly naming country of origin & ethnicity instead of vague around something east asian, huge deal.

as chinese person who born & part grew up in mainland china n been though HORRIFIC trauma from it... cannot talk about anything related to it.

but in mean time. there important things desperately wish non-chinese, or people who lived) in china in general (including diasporas), would know n understand.

because it been extra traumatizing & isolating n lonely, be only person in big metaphorical or literal room, who know these trauma exist, n horrific extent of it. some of which have live experience with. some of it looming threat for my future. some of it not my own experience but my friends (aka my community. my autistic n disabled community).

so, going share some stuff written by other chinese people in this post. that. oh gods. it so accurate it hurt.

there may be some parts not fully agree or would word different if am write. but. think overall message important enough.

especially if you non-chinese. hope you read through all of it (if accessible). even if it make you deeply uncomfortable. n then imagine autistic chinese people living in this reality. because many parts SHOULD make you deeply uncomfortable.
