Happy Valentine's day! I lowkey wanna write a drabble for today, but I have nothing planned out. But-
I think it would be cute to give the Spartans Valentine's Day chocolates.
John would be puzzled, like why? He doesn't understand the concept of celebrating love and affection to the world, it was just another day for him until you gave him the small box and told him "Happy Valentine's Day." John's seriously confused but accepts his partner's gift with a subtle nod, not wanting to dismiss your gesture. It wasn't until he noticed others at the base receiving similar tokens from their partners that his confusion deepened. Why were people exchanging gifts today? What made it so special?
It's Cortana who has to jump in and explain the origins and significance of Valentine's Day, how it's the idea of expressing love and appreciation, and how it's a tradition to exchange gifts on this special day with the one you love. This was so foreign to him but he tries to understand, at the very least for you.
John goes MIA for a solid hour, like you honestly can't find him and no one has seen him. So when he appears before you with a bouquet of wild roses and presents them to you, the first thing you notice are the thornless stems and John's dirty hands. It's clear he had gone out of his way to personally gather these flowers.
"Happy Valentine's Day," he says, presenting you with the wild roses. His typically stoic expression softened, John might not have fully understood the concept of Valentine's Day, but his actions spoke louder than words about his commitment to you.
Though Linda didn't fully grasp the significance of the day, she understood the origins, having overheard about it from Marines in passing. She'll blink when you offer her the chocolates, giving you a raised brow before taking them. Girl is 100% secretly excited about it, she's not going to boast or react over it but the rest of Blue team can see a bounce to her step.
This was a pleasant surprise and she honestly didn't expect her partner to go out of their way for her. Linda makes it a personal mission to find something to gift you, yes she could have Roland help her buy something, and get it to the UNSC infinity, but she also wants it to be special. Maybe she could make you something with a piece of her armor? Or find something you might like during a mission?
Poor Fred was stuck with paperwork when you happened to bound into his office with a box of chocolates. He's surprised and curious when you present him with the gift, giving you this adorable head tilt when he opens it. Did he miss something? Was today an anniversary he happened to forget? The confusion is pretty evident when he asks "What's this?"
When you explain it, it clicks that he's heard about the holiday from commanders before. Honestly, the day slips his mind, it had never really held much significance to him and he only remembers it exists every once in awhile. Despite his initial confusion, Fred's expression softens into a grateful smile as he thanks you for the chocolates.
However, his mind was already racing, searching for a way to reciprocate the gesture. While he couldn't immediately think of a suitable gift, he recalled Roland mentioning that the UNSC Infinity's Memorial Park atrium was holding a dance that evening and he could do a public event for you. The idea formed in his mind, that it was a thoughtful way to show his appreciation, and a shared experience at the dance might be a meaningful way to celebrate Valentine's Day together.
I will say when Kelly finds out about the dance being held in the Memorial Park atrium, she is on her way to find her partner. Like full-on sprinting through the ship [it took Fred a minute to realize who just blurred by his office in a rush, asking if he's seen her partner.] So before you even start searching for her to give her the chocolates, Kelly has already found you first.
She was so ready to ask about this dance thing and what was going on until you gave her that sweet smile and handed her the box. Her expression transformed from eager anticipation to surprise and then delight when she opened the chocolates. Her eyes held most of her emotion, they almost seemed like they were glittering and she smiled when you explained the reason behind the gift and the upcoming dance.
Of course, she accepted your invitation with a tease, that mischievous glint in her eyes. Unbeknownst to you, she had already set aside a gift for her partner when she learned about the holiday a week beforehand from Commander Palmer. It was a small token of her affection, carefully chosen with Roland's help to express her appreciation and love.

lol the idea of a Spartan doing the asking is hilarious! I’d like to think that if they didn’t know they liked the person they’d just spend lots of time with them and try to be physically close to them. Like said Spartan would go out of their way to sit next to the person. Or they’d randomly go find them.
And Fred does NOT have it figured it. Poor boy is losing the battle to his hormones and he has no idea how to act. Veta isn’t much better so it balances out. Won’t get into the Denning fight here but there’s other topics within this shit.
Lol image a PTA meeting with a retired Spartan IV
You ever think about how awkward it would be to try and ask out a Spartan II or III? The poor person doing the asking is gonna be like “do u want to go out on a date with me?” And god if the Spartan being asked out has never thought about this more than passively. The response might be “what is that exactly?” Or even worse “why would we do that?” Honestly those probably wouldn’t be the responses. It would more like be “yes, now how does this work? I’m not entirely familiar,”
I also think this would be extremely Spartan dependent. Our boy Kurt would probably handle it the best and poor John wouldn’t have the slightest clue. I feel like the response would start with “uuuuhhhhh…”
ALSO also Emile comes to mind for this for reason. I feel like the dude would be ruthless if he didn’t like whoever was asking him out. It would be one of those “the worst he can say is no” moments. Kelly also seems like she’s fit this category but I think she’d be less malicious and more joking about it. Jorge also seems like he’d handle this alright too.

Leeds 'Austerity' tram No. 275 @ Half Mile Ln. by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: An old photograph taken in Half Mile Lane, of Leeds City Tramways (LCT) 'Austerity' car No. 275 showing a 'Corn Exchange' destination blind. The photo reverse is stamped with the photographer and/or negative owner name Robert F. Mack (Bob Mack). No 275 is interesting as it started off as car No. 104 and was the first of the 'Austerity cars'. The number 104 was originally on a Chamberlain car which was destroyed by fire in Jul 1942, a 'new' tram was built by LCT using recondition parts (traction motors, gears, wheels & axles) from the remains, and stock or scrap wood, metalwork, fittings, parts, seats, etc., being built in war time materials shortages were common. The new 104 seated 26/40, ran on a second hand Brush P35 truck, and was based in Bramley Depot where it first ran in service Dec 1943. It was renumbered 275 in Aug 1948, moved to Swinegate when Bramley closed in 1949, was withdrawn from service Sep 1957, and the following month was burnt at Lowfields Road Permanent Way Yard. The parts of the Leeds tramways systems that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to bus operation closed in Nov 1959. If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. Thanks. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 ----------------------------------------------

lol @ionlymadethissoicouldleaveanask I forgot she was planning to do that. It’s horrifying to think of her sitting down her “kids” and saying “y’all need to fuck so we can repopulate” after essentially nuking their sex drives. I feel like the three of them would just kind of look at each other and shrug. The “guess I’ll die” meme comes to mind but the text would be “guess we’ll repopulate”
John was left out because he wasn’t there, this was when they were all stuck in the Dyson sphere inside Onyx

I just got told that I'm not a real Halo fan for liking the show and I that I need to rethink my life.

What Is the Snallygaster?
Spend enough time around north-central Maryland, and you’ll hear about the Snallygaster. He’s spoken of and written about in a cluster of towns in Frederick, Montgomery, and Carroll counties, most prominently in Middletown, Rockville, and Sykesville. The trouble is, he’s almost never described the same way twice. Sometimes he’s part reptile, part bird, with octopus tentacles. Sometimes he has razor-sharp teeth. Other times he has a shiny metallic beak. Sometimes the creature tears the flesh of its victims. Other times it sucks on the veins of its victims until they’ve bled white. And lately the term Snallygaster seems to be used interchangeably with Maryland sightings of Bigfoot.
So where did the Snallygaster come from, and how did his name come to be applied to such radically different creatures? Ah, now there’s a story. The creature’s name comes from the German term schneller Geist-a fast-moving spirit or ghost whose rapid movement causes doors to slam and items to scatter. In north-central Maryland in the early eighteenth century, the German schneller Geist turned into the Snallygaster, a creature with overtones of European dragon lore and the thunderbird myths of Native Americans tribes. This monstrous bird of prey would whisk away chickens and small barnyard animals in the South Mountain region.
Occasionally, a tale would surface of a child being carried off. One branch of local lore stated that the seven-sided hex patterns painted on houses and barns were a charm to ward off the beast. (Few of these still exist in Maryland, though hex signs are still prevalent a little farther north in the old German settlements in Pennsylvania.) And so the stories continued for more than a century, firmly rooted in local folklore.
Written records of the creature don’t appear until 1909, when the Middletown Valley Register published an account from Ohio of a flying creature some twenty feet long, heading toward Maryland. A later issue described a similar creature in Maryland’s northern mountains, sleeping on a kiln. It woke with a horrible screech and flew off.
Fired by these tales, more reports came in, with witnesses describing an eagle-winged but fur-clad creature snatching farm animals, or tearing them apart and drinking their blood. Tales from out of state-mostly West Virginia and Ohio-described children being dragged off in broad daylight. Reports that cannot now be verified appeared alleging that the Smithsonian Institution offered a substantial reward for the creature and that Teddy Roosevelt planned a hunting trip to find it. The whole story soon died down, with a final report from hunters in Emmitsburg who mortally wounded the beast and watched it disappear into the night.
The authenticity of these tales is serious in question, especially because of the creature’s convenient disappearance-that is, until it suddenly reappeared two decades later during Prohibition. Stories began to circulate of thunderous explosions and loud screeching sounds from the mountain’s illegal stills, along with reports of a winged creature with huge tentacles. Hard to believe, but the monster carried people off who were getting too close to the mountain and left their bodies scorched and bled white. The Valley Register ran reports theorizing that the creature had probably hatched from an egg mentioned in the paper twenty years earlier. Sightings increased exponentially, and other newspapers including the Baltimore Sun began to cover the story. In some cases, the tales were intentionally ridiculous, featuring the Snallygaster swooping down from the clouds on an antique bicycle, wearing water wings and shouting, “Balance the budget!” More newspapers were trying to get coverage on it when the Valley Register reported the Snallygaster’s death by drowning in a vat of whiskey. The creature’s death probably had something to do with the fact that Prohibition was about to end and the moonshiners didn’t need the Snallygaster’s protection from prying revenue agents.
Sightings of Snallygaster still occur. At some point, the Snallygaster appears to have become a generic term for the bogeyman and lost its teeth (or beak or tentacles) for good. Any reports of a bipedal mammal called Snallygaster should instantly be filed under Sasquatch. The Snallygaster himself has been killed twice over and should be respectfully laid to rest.

A link to my personal reading of the Scriptures
for the 10th of September 2024 with a paired chapter from each Testament (the First & the New Covenant) of the Bible
[The Book of Revelation, Chapter 10 • The Book of Joshua, Chapter 5]
along with Today’s reading from the ancient books of Proverbs and Psalms with Proverbs 10 and Psalm 10 coinciding with the day of the month, accompanied by Psalm 83 for the 83rd day of Astronomical Summer, and Psalm 104 for day 254 of the year (with the consummate book of 150 Psalms in its 2nd revolution this year)
A post by John Parsons:
"Only the person who has had to face despair is really convinced that he needs mercy. Those who do not want mercy never seek it. It is better to find God on the threshold of despair than to risk our lives in a complacency that has never felt the need of forgiveness. A life that is without problems may literally be more hopeless than one that verges on despair." - Merton
====
Part of the meaning of teshuvah (i.e., “repentance”), at least for some of us, is learning to trust and believe in love.... This is a very deep turning of the heart. If you were abandoned as a child, for instance (or even as an adult) you were deprived of the security, nurture, and basic human connection you needed to partake in love. Instead of gaining a sense of belonging and acceptance your soul desperately needed, you inherited a sense of shame that taught that you were inherently unlovable and unworthy. Consequently, as you grew up, you may have found it difficult to trust or ask others for help; you might have turned inward, relying only on yourself, protecting yourself from further pain. You may have became lonely, filled with sadness, anger, and fear. Ironically and tragically, as you protected yourself from abandonment you made your heart hard and numb, and that led to the abandonment of yourself....
We have to be careful here, friends, as Soren Kierkegaard astutely wrote, "To despair over one's sins indicates that sin has become, or wants to be, internally consistent. It wants nothing to do with the good, does not want to be so weak as to listen occasionally to other talk. No, it insists on listening only to itself, on having dealings only with itself; it closes itself up within itself, indeed, locks itself inside one more enclosure, and protects itself against every attack or pursuit from the good by despairing over sin." As C.S. Lewis later affirmed: "the doors of hell are locked on the inside.” Frederick Buechner also likewise warned: “Despair has been called the unforgivable sin - not presumably because God refuses to forgive it, but because it despairs of the possibility of being forgiven.”
There are providential miracles... Healing can come when we turn again to ourselves - unconditionally accepting ourselves despite the pain of our past - and open our hearts to be loved. It was when he "came to himself" that the prodigal made the decision to go back to his father (Luke 15:17). Therefore the Spirit of God calls out to the bereft: "Return to your heart and know" (Deut. 4:29). This is possible only if we are willing to turn to God for the grace we need to be made whole. It is by turning to God (i.e., teshuvah) that we find ourselves to be beloved and made whole. Believing in God's love for us enables us to truly love ourselves, and from that connection, we can move out to love others as well.
O friend of broken hope, savor the phrase, "Know therefore today and return to your heart..." It the heart that is the place of connection with God... As Yeshua said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me" (Rev. 3:20). Today may you find courage to "return to your heart" and receive again God's love for your soul... Amen.

In Calvert County, MD: 🆘 Urgent Rescue Needed: Gentle Giant Copper 🆘 - Calvert County Animal Shelter - Maryland.
Lovable Giant in Need of Rescue!
If you can foster Copper, we can contact local rescues to ask for help, please email [email protected]
Meet Copper, a lovable 1-year-old Mastiff with a heart as big as his 104-pound frame. Copper came to us as an owner surrender due to difficulties getting along with his intact female housemate. Unfortunately, the exact circumstances are unclear, and we do not have information on how the other dog reacted to him. In the kennel setting, Copper has shown some reactivity towards other dogs, which was confirmed by a professional dog trainer. Therefore, we believe Copper would thrive best in a home where he can be the only dog.
Despite his size and strength, Copper is a gentle giant who believes he is a lap dog. He will happily try to squeeze all 104 pounds of himself into your lap to snuggle. Copper is playful, sweet, and full of love. However, due to his strength, he can be strong on the leash and will need an experienced handler who can manage his enthusiasm and energy.
Copper also has a grade 2/6 systolic heart murmur, an "extra" heart sound that was detected before his neuter surgery. We do not have any previous veterinary documentation about this condition, so we are unsure how long Copper has had this heart issue. He has not undergone any additional cardiac diagnostic testing.
Copper is in urgent need of a loving home that can provide him with the care, attention, and understanding he deserves. If you have a dog-free home and are looking for a big-hearted companion who will shower you with affection, Copper could be the perfect match for you. Let's find Copper the forever home where he can truly thrive and be loved.
Please help us give Copper a second chance. Share his story, consider fostering, or open your heart and home to this gentle giant. For more information on Copper please call the shelter.
Copper is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and heartworm negative.
Our shelter has taken in over 70 dogs seized by Animal Control with more coming in each day! We are operating extremely over capacity!! Even pulling one dog would save a life!
Copper and many other dogs in need are available and can be seen on our website www.calvertcountyanimalshelter.com.

Harmonious Unity
Tumblr media
by Aiden Wilson Tozer
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." — Matthew 3:16–17
A popular belief among Christians divides the work of God between the three Persons, giving a specific part to each, as, for instance, creation to the Father, redemption to the Son, and regeneration to the Holy Spirit. This is partly true but not wholly so, for God cannot so divide Himself that one Person works while another is inactive. In the Scriptures the three Persons are shown to act in harmonious unity in all the mighty works that are wrought throughout the universe. In the Holy Scriptures the work of creation is attributed to the Father (Genesis 1:1), to the Son (Colossians 1:16), and to the Holy Spirit (Job 26:13 and Psalm 104:30). The incarnation is shown to have been accomplished by the three Persons in full accord (Luke 1:35), though only the Son became flesh to dwell among us. At Christ’s baptism the Son came up out of the water, the Spirit descended upon Him and the Father’s voice spoke from heaven (Matthew 3:16–17). Probably the most beautiful description of the work of atonement is found in Hebrews 9:14, where it is stated that Christ, through the Eternal Spirit, offered Himself without spot to God; and there we behold the three Persons operating together. The resurrection of Christ is likewise attributed variously to the Father (Acts 2:32), to the Son (John 10:17–18), and to the Holy Spirit (Romans 1:4). The salvation of the individual man is shown by the apostle Peter to be the work of all three Persons of the Godhead (1 Peter 1:2), and the indwelling of the Christian man’s soul is said to by the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (John 14:15–23). The doctrine of the Trinity, as I have said before, is truth for the heart. The fact that it cannot be satisfactorily explained, instead of being against it, is in its favor. Such a truth had to be revealed; no one could have imagined it.
O Blessed Trinity! O simplest Majesty! O Three in One! Thou art for ever God alone. Holy Trinity! Blessed equal Three. One God, we praise Thee. - Frederick W. Faber
