they're putting in a Five Guys at Národní Třída which prompted me to look up Five Guys and like. They have Five Guys in the USA? Why? I have been to a Five Guys and the purpose of a Five Guys is, as best as I can tell, to perform the theater of the American burger ritual to the world. It is an embassy.

It is a chance to engage in some allowable Occidentalism. You can take part in the quaint tradition of adding fries to your order, you can see the metaphor for freedom embodied in a soda machine that allows you to select a mixture of syrups down to single percentage points.

You simply do not need to sell this vision to the American, who swims in it like the corn syrup of their great shores.
