Of course instead of finishing one of my eternal projects, I am starting something new :D
Inspiration came about what to do for the stool cover im going to punch needle. So spinning some nice wools up for the material. The white is Finnish, the others are all polwarth!
It's my first time spinning either of these wools, and I'm quite pleased tbh. Finnish is very typical of a slightly coarser wool, but very pleasant to spin, and the polwarth is so interesting. It's very squeaky in the way halumi cheese is squeaky, if that makes sense to anyone.
But I adore the colours I've got. This is 50g of each of them, and hopefully will be plenty for my stool.
Next up is designing the pattern!

if someone wanted to visit Finland what you recommend to eat or do? or any phrases in Finnish that might be useful? or anything you think a tourist couldn't handle??
Oh! There is a lot to see and do in Finland!
If you plan on visiting Helsinki, you might want to check out the Helsinki Dome (Tuomiokirkko), the Grand marketplace, and the old market hall.
If you have time, there is a ferry, that leaves from the marketplace to the old sea fortress Suomenlinna, if you want to see some of Finland's rich history.
In Helsinki there are also many museums, the national gallery and the nature museums are my favourites.
I do recommend looking up your nearest nature park, and taking a walk through the beautiful scenery there.
Here's a picture I took last summer from Vallisaari, which is a small protected island off the coast of Helsinki, next to the Suomenlinna fortress.

When it comes to food, there are a few things you MUST try in finland.
Reindeer and lingonberry jam. Very good! Leipäjuusto, "bread cheese". A cheese with a squeaky texture, goes well with cloudberry jam. Smoked vendace. Can be purchased from marketplaces for a quick snack. Mämmi, rye pudding (the best), sold either as a frozen product that needs to be molten first or at easter time.
Some key phrases:
(Ä is pronounces as A in "Apple", and Ö is pronounced as E in "The")
Kiitos [key-toss] = Thank you
Ole hyvä [O-leh hy-vae] = There you are
Päivää [Pei-vää] = Good day
Missä on… [Miss-sä on] = Where is…
Miten pääsen… [Me-ten pää-cen] = How do I get to…
Hei!/Moi! [Hey, Moe] = Hello!
Hei hei! [Hey hey] = Bye!
Hope you come visit!

It's called leipäjuusto (bread cheese). It is very delicious!
Bread cheese, known in the United States as Finnish squeaky cheese, is a Finnish fresh cheese traditionally made from cow's colostrum. The cheese originally comes from Southern Ostrobothnia, Northern Finland, and Kainuu.
The milk is curdled and set to form a round disk from two to three centimeters thick. After this, bread cheese is baked, grilled, or flambéed to give it its distinctive brown or charred marks.
Traditionally, bread cheese was dried and could then be stored for up to several years. For eating, the dry, almost rock-hard cheese was heated on a fire which softened it and produced an especially appetizing aroma. Even today, the cheese may be dried by keeping it in a well-ventilated place for a few days. It has a mild flavour.
Bread cheese can be eaten warm or cold, and is served in a number of ways:
The traditional way is to serve it as slices, as a side dish with coffee.
A few pieces are placed in a cup, with hot coffee poured on.
Served as diamond-shaped pieces, roughly 5 to 7 cm long and a little less wide, with cloudberry jam or fresh cloudberries.
Slices of the cheese are cut into a cup or plate, with some cream poured on the pieces so that they soak a little, some cinnamon and sugar sprinkled over it, and grilled in the oven for a moment. Served with cloudberry jam.
In modern Finnish cuisine, diced bread cheese is often used as a mild replacement for feta in various salads.
As a dessert, bread cheese can be served like Camembert, fried on a pan with butter until it softens, and served with jam, traditionally cloudberry.

ADHD memory issues are fun. /j
Today I was on the phone with my brother and I told him I visited a grocery store and then I was like "Lemme check my shopping bag" because I already forgot what I bought. And I could swear I bought something else than just that bag of potato chips in the bag but then accepted the possibility that I just probably thought about buying something else but left it in the store because I'm slightly low on money right now.
Well, now I just went to get some bread and as I grabbed something from the fridge, I noticed I had bought some (Finnish squeaky) cheese because it was on sale but I had no actual memory of buying it. I mean, I do remember doing so, but before this moment I did not remember I ever decided to buy the cheese because it was not what I went to the grocery store for. So my brain just didn't register it.
Now I just need to try and remember to eat it because the expiration day is tomorrow.
I also don't remember I already did the dishes today. It was an impulse and random idea to wash the dishes but because I had no actual need for doing so, my brain didn't register it as done. It's a surprise every time I go into the kitchen and see the almost empty sink. Which, actually, does not help with the guilt procrastination and executive dysfunctions causes me to feel. I still feel like "I should do the dishes" because I did them before the "deadline" or without an actual need. Weird.

4. 8, 16 and 24 for the asks please! 🥰
4. favourite dish specific for your country?
As a fellow cheese lover I’m sure you’ll appreciate this: my favourite Finnish food is a type of fresh cheese called leipäjuusto (literally bread cheese or squeaky cheese). You heat it up and serve with cloudberry jam, it’s DELICIOUS!
8. do you get confused with other nationalities? if so, which ones and by whom?
Hmm, not really! Although, I spent a few months in Switzerland where everyone assumed I was a Swiss even though I didn’t even speak the language of the region I was living in. But yeah, I was living there so it kinda made sense, but then I took a trip to Austria a year afterwards and two people asked if I was a Swiss?? Idk why.
16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with?
Finland is a small and not internationally well-known country so I rarely come across any nasty stereotypes! Maybe one that annoys me is the assumption that everyone listens to heavy metal here. I mean yeah, we have a lot of metal bands but it’s not very mainstream so it’s always strange when people are like “oh, you’re from Finland, guess you like metal music haha”. (I actually do, but almost none of my friends do so idk).
One common stereotype is that Finns are quiet and introverted. I think there’s some truth to it, but it's more politeness than anything else. I think many Finns don’t want to bother strangers with small talk, which in turn might come across as being rude or shy. That’s just a mask though, most of us are sweet and funny people beneath it all!
24. what other nation is joked about most often in your country?
Sweden, but always with love!
Thank you for the asks! Hope you’re having a wonderful day 💕

Tried the cheese coffee thing. It's surprisingly good. Doesn't really change the flavor of the coffee in my opinion but the cheese is actually so much better when it kinda turns mushy and warm. (If anyone wants to try this, I recommend warming the cheese first so it doesn’t cool down the coffee and also for maximum mushiness.)
Just watching LTAT again and I’d like to point out ‘’kaffeost’’ is not a Finnish but a Swedish word even when Americans calls it Finnish squeaky cheese. I didn’t know they even had a ‘’word’’ to that cheese in US. In Finnish it’s called ‘’leipäjuusto’’ which means bread cheese, not coffee cheese like in Sweden. It’s very mild cheese and I don’t think I’ve ever heard it put it in coffee. (Must be a Swedish thing, they’re weird over there, lmao) Usually, in Finland, it’s served with cloudberries and rye bread. The cheese has an interesting texture, not a bad one but weird. It squeaks when you bite it. Gordon Ramsay spat it out immediately when he was served that in here. XD (but it’s not bad, it just doesn’t taste much like anything).

What's your favorite Finland-exclusive dessert? Or at least something that's generally regional? This is an open invitation to make an American jealous that they can't have said treat and I'm willingly sacrificing myself for the cause.
I love blueberry pie! It's so yummy. Probably not a Finnish exclusive but Finnish wild blueberries are the best. They're nothing like the bush grown berries I've seen everywhere else!

Also Finnish (squeaky) cheese with cloudberry jam is lovely. (I still can't get over the fact it's called Finnish cheese in English... Weird. We call it bread cheese.)
