Amethio Rant: Part 2

Every time I think I'm done with this kid, here he comes flooding my feed again. And I can't really blame people for being excited when their favorite character does things. I'm guilty of spamming when that happens too. I just find it mildly annoying because I can't stand Amethio. And recently people have taken to calling him the new Zuko with irks me in a way I'll do my best to descibe.

So like, people say that like its a good thing. But to me it really isn't. Like, woo pee I get to watch an arc I've already seen done much better years ago with nothing new or interesting added because Amethio has zero personality and does nothing. Like tell me, what has this kid actually done besides get served every time he appears. He accomplishes nothing and adds nothing, just acts like some boring fill-in-the-blank character. I'm serious, tell me three personality traits he has, with proof. I can't think of any.

I really do enjoy watching a complete nothing burger going through the motions of an arc that I've seen so many gosh darn times at this point to the point where I'm not surprised by anything that happens to him. Disowned? Who cares. We all knew that was going to happen at some point so I feel nothing. Wha wha let's move on to the next beat. No need to linger. He'll be fine. We all know he will be. I swear I'm so much more emotionally invested in literally everyone else in this show, even Zirc and Onia. Like, what's their story? Where did they come from? Spinel? Chalce? Sidian and Coral? Wow its almost like they aren't the most telegraphed characters in existence so I can actually care. Even fricking Hamber has gotten more of a reaction out of me.

Let me make this clear if you've made it this far, I don't hate you if you like Amethio as a character. Good for you. I just can't understand for the life of me why anyone does when I hate him this much. Anyway, have a good day everyone. Felt nice to get this off my chest.

hands down one of the best pieces of subtle world building this season is the name High Five Heroes and the way it doesn't mean anything. the Bad Kids and the Maidens' names actually say something about their respective groups and what they've done/been through. meanwhile High Five Heroes is clearly a name that was handpicked by Kipperlilly long before she stepped foot in aguefort on the first day or actually met any of her party members. it's a pre-approved inside joke specifically designed in a lab to be as bland and palatable and inoffensive as possible—a middle manager's attempt at manufacturing camaraderie. the most generic, perfectly marketable name she could come up with for her Perfect, Optimal Adventuring Party.

me, stupidly and weirdly resistant to listening to audio books vs reading a physical book for no real reason: man i wish there was a way to like, read a book while i crochet like i do with tv shows and movies and podcasts

i'm not sure if this is bias from someone whose only seen voy+ds9 or if it's maybe more due to the setting of ds9 (a place people visit instead of people who visit places) but it is soooo delightful seeing all the PEOPLE!!! all of these unspeaking extras all dressed up in weird costume and extraordinary makeup. all of these aliens so different from one another and yet blending perfectly and harmoniously into the background, entirely irrelevant but no doubt leading unique and interesting lives. that probably sounds contradictory to love seeing the people when the show is no longer about Exploring To Meet People but idk something about ds9 feels different. feels alive and intriguing. maybe ds9 simply cant throw in human extras and call it a day like on a starfleet vessel because that just Is Not The Setting but also maybe ds9 does it willingly. happily. look at all of these different people. so many good unique character gimmicks get used in ds9 namely related to business owners/local workers and we are only so blessed with getting to know a few of them. a spy from the planet of state servitude who is drawn to the mundane and hedonistic self gratification owns a tailoring shop because hes banished from home. a bar tender who gets blackmailed into staying and his cop-vs-criminal dynamic best frenemy the Unknown Sample butt heads every day. all of the bajorans and their religious sites!!!!!! the school!!!!!! a worker from Capitalism Planet forms a union and then quits his job to be a freelance engineer and his sex worker wife who he loves very much. a guy from some sorta warrior culture who instead works as a chef serving live worms to his patrons who'll also burst into song during downtime. all of the shady visitors dealing in illicit substances and goods. all of the weird shapes and colours on these visitors from races whose names we may not even know. one of the starfleet crew guys gives birth to litters and he does this multiple times and some longterm professor on the station has a transparent skull and all this & more is conveyed to us strictly thru crewmembers gossiping about all the strange new different People around them because this show is all about People

I don't know math. Like. At all

And it's a genuine fucking problem

I don't know how to phrase this differently. When I say I am HORRIBLY HORRIBLE at math, and I don't know anything going from 4th grade onward I MEAN it. And it's a fucking problem

Like how do I say this. I stopped paying attention to any classes in school ever since fifth grade and so I never, ever paid attention to math. How I have still managed to move forward, that is unbeknownst to me. But I haven't learned a single goddamn thing in those years and I don't know anything. Older people have told me to just start paying attention to class and I'll somehow catch up but the thing is, looking at the board........ I don't know anything. There is no former knowledge to apply here.

And it's all kinda my fault? I mean it's not like I CHOSE to not pay attention to class? Not really? I don't think st least? Ddisomdidwd

But even then I COULD ask people to help me but I feel so genuinely ashamed....... Like. Guys

To give an example of how genuinely stupid I am

Take this for example. 8 + 7 . EXTREMELY EASY. most people instantly think "oh it's 15" because most people are smart enough

IIII, HIWEVER, think this way: "oh.... Eight... Plus seven... Well first I'll turn eight into ten so it's a bit easier so I'll just take the number two away from seven... Ok now it's ten... Then I uh... Seven minus two.. that's five... So ten plus five is fifteen!"

I definitely don't have discalculia or dyscalculia or whatever it's spelled like, I am just extremely dumb and never practice math. Never

I never do my homework, never do anything at school, like I said I have no idea as to how I managed to pass

I don't know who to turn to, because I feel way to goddamn ashamed to open up about this

I'm pretty sure I can talk to my sister but I'm sure she isn't too interested in teaching my basic mathematics

The only problem.

I keep telling myself I'll do it, I'll study, and then I. Don't.

I have a math test tomorrow and I told myself and my PE teacher that I'll study, that I'll ask my sister for help

But I didn't. Nighttime is nearing and I'm not doing anything about it but I should be doing something about it

I'll do it or st least try doing it after making this post but I have no idea where to start.

How does one learn YEARS of math in one night.

Well, I have been able to recover 2 years of physics in 3 private classes? Probably because AHEM individualist teaching mechanisms hellomm??? This is why private teaching is so much better than the standard education system???

mentioned this in my last post under the cut but you have no idea how much it irked me as a physicist to read about how gege consulted a FUCKING ENGINEER about limitless. an engineer. an ENGINGEERRRRRR. i just. not even a mathematician? engineers don't work with theoretical physics. engineers hardly even work with nonreal math! you're out here designing a guy whose powers involve imaginary mass and divergent series and you DON'T even go to like the two fields that actually work with those things on a semi regular basis...an engineer.......what's he telling you....how to build a bridge?????????????
