Südengland 2023 - Tag 25
Ladies and Gentlemen!

Good Night!
Angie, Micha und Mr. Bunnybear (Hasenbär)

Hello, hello! Have some festive Nordics!
When December rolls around, it's time to have a formal Christmas dinner with friends and family. Or attending one organized by your workplace or hobby club! While the name varies between the countries, the traditions are pretty much the same; eating a hefty Christmas meal, singing together, playing party games, and of course lots of drinking; leading to the unspoken rule of "What happens in Julebord stays in Julebord"
#haven't had time to post so i decided to go all out! hope you like it!#hws denmark#hws finland#hws iceland#hws norway#hws sweden#hws nordics#hetalia#my art#this is by far the biggest piece I have done so we will see how tumblr decides to upload this image#you could fill up a chapel ceiling with these canvas sizes I'm using jfc. i need to calm down next time

wolfwood redraws (ID in alt text)
#nicholas d wolfwood#trigun#trigun maximum#tw blood#going to be talking vol 9 spoilers in here pls do not read if u have not read it!!#wolfwood my beloved. he's such a battle genius with such strong survival instincts and incentive to fight. it makes me so sad but also#it's just the way he's been able to live for as long as he has [explodes]#midvalley calling him a demon/devil (iforget which word) and livio being like “victory seems impossible” when faced against him aughhh AUGH#he's clearly not invincible - vol 8 proved that when he almost did get beat if not for vash swooping back in... but the way he carries#the battles really makes it feel like it. especially whenever he “revives” for the sake of protecting another person. i.e. him getting#back up to defeat livio - him battered and worn from the fight but then pushing his body to get up when chapel aimed at the orphanage#and then despite the blood gushing out of him he still regained cautiousness to defend razlo at the end.... ugh.... ugh.....#anyway... i love how nightow draws ww - these were fun to do. ive been meaning to do these redraws esp from vol 9/10#and maybe ill go back to do redraws from his previous fights. all and all i just need to get down how he uses the punisher properly#ruporas art

Emmrich is fastidious in his grooming habits and wouldn’t be caught dead (lol) looking anything other than his best at all times, but don’t let that fool you into thinking he’s afraid to get dirty: the man works with the deceased. Embalming people requires a strong stomach. If anything he’s the one stepping up to deal with the bag of extremely rotten carrots that fell behind the shelf in the pantry and remained there for a month before the smell got so bad *someone* had to deal with it.
It makes his entire DAY when the gang stumbles upon a corpse that’s been dead for awhile and he’s going, “The advancement of tissue gas at this stage of decomposition has turned his skin that striking chartreuse colour - if you gently press on it you can actually feel the bubbles snapping under the dermis! Give me your hand, Rook!”
Meanwhile everyone else is gagging or actually throwing up because of the smell alone - never mind the green bloated dead guy.
#emmrich#emmrich volkarin#dragon age#dragon age emmrich#veilguard#datv#the man loves gross things let’s be real#i just had a tissue gas memory and thought of this#her cremation paperwork was delayed so we had to wait to cremate her#our lead embalmer was at the chapel because i needed his help with a visitation that wasn’t looking good#and he smelled the tissue gas lady from upstairs and practically ran down to the crem#just to take the lid off her container and give me a lecture about tissue gas#the lecture uh… stuck#as did the smell

viktor makes one too many jokes in the early days of hextech about how easy it would be for the council to just decide to cut him out of everything and make sure only jayce is credited with hextech and steal all of his work for free and there'd be nothing viktor could do about it until finally jayce gets fed up and decides they HAVE to get married. its the only option. that way viktor can't even joke about it anymore because legally it CANNOT happen. over his dead body or these divorce papers, jayce talis will NOT let his partner be excluded from their hextech baby dream!!!
#3 am they haven't slept in 2 full days jayce drags viktor to the piltover equivalent of a las vegas 24 hour chapel#viktor entertains him because surely this isn't lawfully binding but if it'll make jayce feel better than what the hell why not#meanwhile jayce is SPRINTING to the courthouse as soon as they open and shoving the paperwork at the first person he sees#the next time viktor tries to joke about it jayce whips the marriage certificate out with such a smug look#'whats mine is yours and whats yours is mine for LIFE so jot that down'#this is entirely self indulgent and silly i just think it'd be fun#fic rambles#jayvik#arcane

watched jsmn and then read the whole book in a week so i’m thinking abt segundus - the idea that segundus is a primary johannite on acct of strange’s magic, and his friendship with segundus is so interesting to me because segundus is described as (1) a genuinely good gentleman, (2) an avid lover of magic, and (3) a biographer and close friend of one of the most powerful magicians in 300 years. and i was thinking abt childermass as usual - but what kind of insane post-canon relationship would the two have, when childermass’ egging him on is the reason segundus picks up enough courage to ‘do the magic’??? like strange making summoning dreams was enough to nab segundus the first time - can u imagine the levels of worship this man would secretly cultivate for the 1 dude who like is the face of a new era of magic PLUS the dude who pushed him into actually DOING magic??!
#john segundus#john childermass#johnsquared#jonathan strange and mr norrell#jsmn#js&mn#they make me SICK#not a ship on earth that’s got me so fundamentally down as these two#what do you MEAN he said do the magic and HE DID?!!!#what do you MEAN the chapel the sky the whatever and CHILDERMASS??!?!!!?!???

when looking at the intimate warrior-bond between m'benga and chapel in snw, it's sort of interesting to imagine that when chapel first meets mccoy she remains both distant and a little judgy bc i have this idea that mccoy was a conscientious objector during the klingon war.
chapel, with her combat-nurse horror memories, looking at this guy with his soft hands (well-established by ds9) and his research and surgery advancements and, as i imagine it, a cushy job he was pushed into after refusing to serve in the war, forced to instead serve as a primary care doctor for a bunch of seniors living out their retirement in the middle of nowhere, cut-off from research and cutting edge scholarly medical stuff, as penalization. and chapel doesn't think he's cut out for this. sure he's studied everything he needs to. sure he's been a physician and a surgeon on a lot of planets by the time they meet. but she and him have nothing in common. where she's somewhat distant and has been-through-war in a smoking-outside-a-bar-quoting-hemingway kind of way, he's just not.
but it's through working with him that she starts to reconcile healing arts and combat medic training. he's like dr. turner in call the midwife--very much a proponent of caring about the mundane suffering of life--and it's this mundanity that becomes a sort of thesis statement for practicing healthcare in space. it's about small reminders of what a body is, a production of the planet from which it came, a full history of life on that planet since it first began, and a person whose sensuality, whose living-as their body, should be cared for. and chapel is able carry her own memories easier just being exposed to this. while she never grows as close to mccoy as she is to m'benga, she learns the value of being a "country doctor," even if it does begin to sound increasingly ironic as their five-year-journey goes on.
it would be a similar journey that bashir, i think, takes in ds9--where his ambition is softened into uncertainty but with that uncertainty comes solutions and care and futurity--like when he tries to cure an illness, loses his mind and loses his sense of purpose/confidence until jadzia, the voice of facing uncertainty imo, points out that thinking there is not cure is as arrogant as thinking there is one, a piece of wisdom which finally allows him to think and then to come up with a vaccine, which isn't quite a cure but is still something wonderful.
#i had this idea about mccoy and wrote it in a fic before watching the snw “under the cloak of war” episode#but as i was watching it i could feel myself doubling down#uhura is so innocent in that episode. and so are spock and pike to an extent#and i just like the idea that people who are traumatized in war are not the sole fonts of wisdom among their peers#the value of a country doctor who just cares for the quotidian ills of their patients seems worth exploring#especially in the context of a space-exploring-ship#star trek#ds9#snw#strange new worlds#tos#mccoy#chapel#julian bashir#jadzia dax

Honestly, the thing about Spock's nervous reaction to being perceived by Gem the mute empath (turning away, pretending to study his tricorder, ignoring her until she walks over and emotes her delight at what he specifically felt for the unconscious Kirk while gentle music plays) that gets me is how much it mirrors the final scene of "Amok Time."
I mean, "The Empath" is no "Amok Time" as an episode (though it's fine). But the transformation of Spock's devastation over Kirk's "death" at his hands into raw joy and delight, the only time in TOS that he shows such a thing without some outside force screwing with him, is such a moment. And the reason it's only a moment is because he hurriedly hides it in the same guilty, nervous way he'll do in "The Empath" later, for the same reason: realizing he's being perceived by a third party. In "Amok Time," of course, that's the smiling Chapel and McCoy; Spock seems to have genuinely forgotten that they were even in the room when he saw Kirk alive, and as soon as he sees them again, he stops short and hides his feelings again, lying that he doesn't care about Kirk in any capacity but professional respect.
Kirk seems to just be affectionately amused by this and shepherds him off, but I think it's interesting that the thing that really alarms Spock is the sudden realization that other people are watching them. He does have to be pretty blatantly reminded that other people exist are present and can see everything, but once Spock sees others observing them, he has this brief moment of panic and then retreats into his usual composure while just lying or pretending he revealed nothing. This isn't set off by Kirk himself at all—his reaction, something he did, something he might have done. Spock's alarm in these scenes is all about being perceived by people other than Kirk.
If they had been alone, well— It does seem like something quite different might have happened in both cases.
#the anxiety around what's going on between them being seen by other people is very homophobia coded obviously#and i do always wonder about spock switching into repression mode because of the presence of chapel and mccoy and apparently nothing else#there's this distinctly nervous guilty quality in his response both times despite the fact that the 'audience' is obviously charmed#amok time in particular really seems to suggest spock wouldn't have dialed the joy of their reunion down nearly so fast w/o others there#and likely he /would/ have just stayed at kirk's side watching him sleep if they didn't have to worry about being seen by others#there's also deela's prurient suggestion that she wants to watch kirk and spock 'demonstrate' their great affection. which. ummm.#so. hmm. hmmmmmm.#anyway. cool cool it's all fine.#anghraine babbles#otp: the premise#c: who do i have to be#c: i object to intellect without discipline#star peace#anghraine's meta#tos: s2#tos: s3#star trek: the original series#tos: amok time#tos: the empath#and for the tags:#tos: wink of an eye

I am a Spapel.
But Spirks: You ushered in the golden age of AO3, and you’re so real for enjoying that hand-shake in SNW 2x06.
Chapel x M’Benga folks: M’Benga is so underrated; I see you and I love you.
Chapel x Ortegas girlies: You’re so, so right, preach to the bi choir.
Spuhura enjoyers: 10 y/o me watching Zachary Quinto & Zoe Saldana was right there with you, and Celia & Ethan bleed so much talent, I sincerely understand.
Countless others: Love yourselves and I love you too.
I am a Spapel.
But I am a Spapel of Peace 🖖🏻
