Everyone thinks that dick was the golden child when in reality it was Jason.
Clark: Bruce who was your favourite robin?
Dick: obviously it’s me?
Tim: it’s dick
Damian: I am superior robin, it will be me.
Bruce: it’s Jason
Everyone: WHAT?!?!???
Bruce: why are you so surprised? He didn’t jump on too my chandeliers which I had to replace each week
*everyone looks at dick*
Bruce: he didn’t drop out of school
*everyone looks at tim*
Bruce: I didn’t have to stop him from killing everyone who annoyed him
*everyone looks at Damian*
Bruce: in fact, he enjoyed school and handed all his homework in on time, we would spend hours in the library reading his favourite classics. He even helped Alfred with most of the cooking, He was my little boy
Jason: stop spreading lies, I hate you go away
Bruce: my precious little boy
#jason todd#Bruce Wayne#dick Grayson#Damian Wayne#tim Drake#clark kent#Batman#alfred pennyworth#Bruce: he my little baby#jason: I’m 6’2 and have the ability to kill you if I wanted#Bruce: my baby my little son#jason: GOD YOURE SO EMBARRASSING DAD#jason was probably the most behaved child before he went boom boom and I stand by that#he enjoyed school#most likey hated it when he missed it#and he loves classic literature???#bros a huge nerd#yea dick is all smiles but probably gave Bruce’s near death heart attacks everytime he swung from chandeliers and rooftops#jason just wanted to live his life in the library reading his fav books and homework

ok someone please correct me if i'm wrong but am i weird for thinking those 'audiobooks don't count as reading' posts are ableist as fuck????
#ramble#my first thought was like: how is this even a debate what about blind people. not every book comes in braille but MOST have an audiobook#or dyslexic people#you still enjoyed the book!! you still absorbed it!!! you got EXACTLY the same thing as people who read the words!!!#how does it not count????#i guess you miss out on the 'learning new vocab' you get through seeing the words but also#i don't really do audiobooks but i do a lot of podcasts esp fiction podcasts#and i have ABSOLUTELY picked up new stuff from there that helps with my writing#someone please explain how this is even an argument of COURSE it counts????#idk in my opinion finishing a book means 'i put the words in my brain and i thought about them and i enjoyed a story'#not 'i held a stack of paper in my hands for a bit'#i'm v lucky that i do have time to sit and read. and whenever i commute anywhere it's public transport so i CAN bring a book with me#but if i didn't have the free time or had to drive for hours everywhere i would be STOKED to still get to enjoy books#it's been REALLY bothering me lmao idk why i feel so strongly#for some reason it's giving the same energy as like. being told you can't take a comic or manga from the library bc it's not a 'real' book#of course it's a real book it's a story somebody wrote down#i can see this spiralling into 'if you have a kindle you aren't reading'. you have to sniff the paper. feel the papercuts

#edit: meme taken out due to transphobic origins#people who genuinely enjoy instapoetry: have you ever read a book#or anything besides actually i was gonna say ao3 but that’s unfair to fanfic writers#the Cheesecake Factory menu has more substance than any instapoetry book#and honestly more meaningful impact on society#for the love of god if i have to see any on my dash ever again#the betrayal .. i curate my dash so carefully .#p

We laugh at sci-fi for how it over-explains technology, but we also need to make fun of how Victorians describe any time period that takes place more than ten years before the book's publishing date.
It's like if we wrote like this about the '80s or '90s.
According to the curious fashions of the day, she wore a shirt of tie-dye print. It may seem quaint to our modern sensibilities, but such colorful styles were a common sight in any public street of those times.
At the time this story occurred, it was not uncommon for young men to wear their hair cropped closely around the face, but allow the hair behind the head to grow until it brushed the level of the shoulders.
In those days, the information superhighway was little more than a crude unpaved path, full of hazards and beset by brigands, so it is not strange that our heroine, instead of entering her query into the search bar on her browser, went to the public library and scoured the books on the shelves for the information she sought.
She and her friends went to the theater to see E.T. How strange to think that film was once at the heights of popularity and acclaim, as well-known in its day as films like The Hunger Games or The Avengers have become in the intervening time.
I get that the lack of video and audio recording made it harder for future generations to experience the details of the past, and that technology was changing their world at a faster rate than ever before, but also, dude, it was only, like, forty years ago, so maybe chill out a bit.
#books#victober#lol#i've noticed this a lot in victorian reading this year#and then last night a chapter of 'a struggle for fame'#involved the author exclaiming over how believe it or not#in the 1850s books like jane eyre were considered the best and most popular things on the market#with a level of acclaim that things like 'the woman in white' or 'lady audley's secret' have since enjoyed#and it really brought the issue to the forefront again and was really funny#also harriet martineau was listed as the other uber-popular author alongside bronte#so maybe i should seek out that title too because it was the only one mentioned i hadn't read yet

I haven't read these books at all, but your art is so fun and cute that I like seeing your comics a lot regardless. Fantastic Silly Little Guy energy.
Thank you for enjoying my silly little guys and my comics B*)
#ask#non mdzs#Do I tag sockpuppet wangxian? maybe not.#Truly; Thank you. The ability to draw silly little guys is one that has brought me a lot of joy!#I started this project as a way to get into the habit of drawing so I could learn.#Knowing that my comics are enjoyable even for those who 'don't go here' really is a high complement for me.#This ask is also doubly funny because I also have not read these books. I have only enjoyed them as a show/audio drama.#There was also an artist who did a recap of another book by the authour who had not seen the series and boy it was good.#that was @tempo-takoyaki if you're curious!#Long and short of it all: I think art and comics are a really wonderful media to engage with. Everyone should draw comics#Question asker has a comic too: Lovespells has really cute art and it's on my to read list now B*)

gotta love when your teacher asks you what types of books you like to read, and you have to say "fantasy" and "historical fiction" because "fanfiction about ghost boys kissing" is not a socially acceptable answer to that question
#what have i become… 😭#five years ago i was blazing through literature like my life depended on it#and now the only reading that i do is on ao3…#i don’t know if i should be ashamed or if this is just a necessary stage of development#but i’m gonna just convince myself it’s the latter#i genuinely do enjoy reading regular books but i've only been reading fanfiction as of lately#dead boy detectives#dbda#charles rowland#edwin payne#payneland#dead boy detective agency#dead boy detective netflix#not-the-living-ghost#monty finch#monty the crow

I'm not getting into The Giving Tree discourse...
#personal#delete later#idk i just saw a post of the “alternate ending” comic on my dash and everyone praising it as an improvement and “fixing” the original#which i kinda resent#while tulli and i was taking my nephew to a book store we walked around the kids section and found the giving tree and we read through it#and i was so stricken by how profoundly sad it is. it's not a happy story#in the end both versions tell the exact same lesson. but one flat out tells you and the other makes you sit with a pit in your stomach#and work to find the answer#i dunno it's kids literature but kids literature is important. i don't wanna discredit anyone's bad memories with the book but also i think#sometimes it's ok to make kids a bit sad and upset with fiction.#tweet that goes “what if romeo and juliet didn't kill themselves and explained to the audience that family feuds are bad”#idk you can't seriously read the original book as an adult and say it's glorifying self-martyrdom#when the final drawing of the book is of an old tired man sitting on arotting stump with his hat fallen to the ground#again i don't wanna invalidate people's feelings if they enjoy the alt version i think it's really nice too. but the original has its#purpose too. imagine if at the end of the lorax they show that the boy did it and replanted the world happy ending#wait they did that in the movie shit#i dunno i just love somber children's literature. tulli and i are talking about moomin right now and how the series ends with the moomin#family just leaving. and nobody gets to say goodbye to them. their friends have to find ways to live with the emptiness they've left behin

Some underrated moments in book 2
🤍 When Xie Lian admitted if it weren't for his cultivation method, he 100% would've read the smut mortals write about Pei Ming already.
🤍 When Xie Lian described Mu Qing as a ✨Standard Pretty Boy™✨
🤍 The way Fangxin MOANED when Xie Lian took it in his hand after hundreds of years of separation.
🤍 Mu qing's worst fear being muddy scalies.
🤍 Qi Rong's poetic soliloquy about STDs.
🤍 When Shi Qingxuan disarmed Feng Xin, a powerful martial god with centuries worth of experience, just by running into him tits first.
(Book 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
#honorable mention: when hua cheng gave a literal object the NASTIEST side eye for enjoying gege's grip too much#you wish that was you huh#can't say i don't get mu qing tho those things are built the wrong type of different#excited for the next novel hope some of the goofiness carries on#heaven official's blessing#tian guan ci fu#tgcf#xie lian#pei ming#mu qing#fang xin#qi rong#shi qingxuan#feng xin#i don't have one of these for book 1 cause i read that over the course of 3 months#my bad gang

doing this thing i call "reading every class high school lit book i missed out on" partially because as an english minor i feel like a lot of ppl in my english lectures have already read these books in higschool partially because high school english classes suck balls and i think the way they taught kids to read books was lame and dumb as hell and killed love for reading and i think some of these books they make kids read should never be experienced in a classroom setting
#the horror on my face when i talk to someone and they read catcher in the rye at an age below 16.... that should be a punishable offence#actually teaching catcher in the rye should be illegal. u are meant to experience that on ur own. that shit is between u and god.#the reason why i'm a separate peaceposting rn is because i see the homosexuality and analyze it for fun instead of being bored#if i had to read it in school i'd probably enjoy it less. imagine being quizzed on it. imagine having the themes spilled out for you. gross#if i got reading comprehension quizzed on any book i like i think i would kill myself in front of everyone forever#THAT'S JUST NOT HOW IT WORKS. AND WHY DO COLLEGES UNDERSTAND THIS BUT HIGHSCHOOLS DON'T#LIKE A 16-17 YEAR OLD HIGHSCHOOLER DOES NOT NEED TO BE READING QUIZZED LIKE 18-19 YEAR OLDS DON'T OKAY

If you've just discovered Billford from the Book of Bill you'll enjoy:
Knowing Me Knowing You on ao3!
If you're looking for fanfic to read that hits on the key dynamics from the Book of Bill, (despite the bulk of the fic existing before the books release) look no further! In the interest of tooting my own horn, to celebrate the new chapter I'd like to recommend a fic inspired by ABBA BABBA's musical back catalogue!
If you read the book of bill and wanted to see more of:
toxic old man yaoi billford
pre-betrayal worshipful billford (plus canon typical gravity falls anomaly research and hijinks)
post betrayal angsty possession billford (with bonus BORD!)
interdimensional cat and mouse portal billford (catch me if you can!)
Stanford getting it on with a triangle (and a human bill pre-betrayal) in many weird and wonderful ways
complex relationship dynamics between Ford, Fiddleford and Bill
Institute of Oddology toxic fidd/author/bill side story
Heist after heist with the henchmaniacs
Ford's portal adventures!
Terrible jokes that will make you laugh anyway!
A power dynamic that levels the playing field (Ford in control) and then decimates the field altogether!
Ford fell first, Bill fell harder!
Fleshed out backstories for the wider cast in Gravity Falls and a story that respects everyone's agency!
A Billford fic that takes a break from the toxic ship to spend a chapter with Stanley pug smuggling in New Mexico
Morally ambiguous Jheselbraum with past connections to Bill
Lottocron 9 and the infinity sided dice (including Ford's trip to the M dimension! Hate that place!!!)
Then you might enjoy this fic! It's just updated, with more chapters on the way, so if you're ready for a journey into mystery, mayhem and mischief, strap yourself in!
*author's disclaimer - Book of Bill DID align exactly with my fanfic and I was not disappointed!
#billford#knowing me knowing you#bill cipher#gravity falls#stanford pines#billford fanfic#the book of bill#book of bill#fanfic rec#tooting my own horn is very impressive considering i've never played an instrument well#i once got paid to STOP playing the clarinet#true story#anyway i have been on cloud nine with all these new readers#i hope you all enjoy reading the story so far#i was tempted to include people's reviews but i thought that was tilting too far into the egotism running rampant lmao#too much like ford#not enough like Bill#who can say

I have a request for batfam/Jason Todd fanfic writers:
I love the "Jason Todd is a bookworm/theatre nerd" fics as much as the next person, don't get me wrong, but can we please diversify his interests?
90% of the time when I open a fic with that tag, we see Jason reading Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice or quoting Shakespeare. And not to say that there's anything wrong with any of those being his favourite but even if he loves to read "classical" books, come on!
You're telling me Jason raised-in-crime-alley-spent-his-formative-years-between-an-eccentric-billionaire-and-an-assassin-cult Todd only reads books by dead white people?!
I refuse! Give me a man who takes to books more than ever after his return to Gotham. Jason, who reads books like I am Woman, A Really Good Brown Girl and White Tears/Brown Scars, then recommends them to the working girls as he establishes his territory. Who reads in multiple languages, and who loves Arabic poetry.
Give me a little "Robin is Magic!" Jason scouring Bruce's library and picking up a copy of The Mahabharata after he's done The Iliad, and spends weeks obsessed with Journey to the West.
Give me a Jason who's read Things Fall Apart, and One Hundred Years of Solitude! The number of quotes and references he could pull that would further support his dramatic tendencies? It would make him so happy!
#I could say something bitter about diversity/inclusion in fandoms in general#And how the lack of diversity in people's personal bookshelves is clearly reflected in how they write a bookworm character#who travels the world regularly but for some reason only considers literature written by Europeans to be “classics”#but i won't#ive just given examples of more diverse books that are considered “classics” but don't feel like you have to go that route#the point is to make him a diverse reader!#AGAIN no one come for me! I'm not saying those books aren't classics and he can't enjoy them!#I'm just saying#stop making it the only thing he reads!#batfam#bookworm jason todd#batfamily#ao3#batfam fanfic#jason todd#nerd jason todd#jason todd fanfiction#red hood#dc#dc comics
