Because it's my birthday tomorrow I am going to give y'all a present in the form of a rough doodle/sneak peak of a scene from the kmky sequel.

Finally finished the bottomless pit scene that I've had cooking for over a year now.

We're at 142 pages for the chapter so far with one scene to go for the summerween party now lads. Wish me luck 🤞

Writing update for all the patient waiters, I'm two scenes from the end of chapter four. It's taking me a while to hammer out the flow of certain conversations and I'll probably edit a bunch to make sure it's moving where it should but right now it's at 125 pages and might be somewhere close to 150 pages when it's done. A lot happens in week 3 of summer so hopefully I get the pacing right, make you laugh with some of the jokes I've been dying to tell and keep the dialogue all pretty in character given the circumstances. Thank you for being so patient and supportive!

THE PROCESS OF CREATION:

I put a lot of effort into this project, working on it in the little free time I had during the last months with study finals and this summer break, which became a lot busier for me than I anticipated haha ^^' I am so so happy with it finally being finished after sitting in my drafts for so long

At first, this was supposed to be a light project, but I quickly realised how much I underestimated this mammoth of written work! I got so invested I collected over 150 songs at that time, and right there and then I made peace with the fact I couldn't possibly try to fit its whole essence into a mere, one-shot playlist

And so began the long, tiresome journey of creating perfect organisation system, cutting the original collection into its individual playlists; with a bit of struggle, I finally settled on 8 playlists, each representing different chapters, feelings, and perspectives of both Ford and Bill

THEME:

This first playlist is focused on the more softer, nicer side of their relatioship. Kind of a "honeymoon phase" if you could call it.

From songs that represent Ford's often idealistic adoration for Bill and Bill's initially stricte ulterior motives becoming ambiguous, to beginings of more genuine feelings and subtle confessions as both of them grow closer and closer.

Of course, if you really pay attention to some of the lyrics, you'll feel the subtle nudges of "this won't last forever" kind of reminders we all know this fanfiction loved to throw at us in the first 33 chapters ;]

do you think jheselbraum ever cared for bill to some extent or was it always just a need to outdo him/get back at him? and why do you think bill let her live so long? was it because her putting the plate in ford’s skull and everything else going on/being in a bad place mentally that set him over the edge? and he never really felt the need to have anything to do w her, let alone kill her, prior to that.

What a good question! Thank you for asking this, I have given you a short wall of text in response haha.

In the context of KMKY I like to think Jheselbraum saw Bill as her rival, even if they shared some pleasant filial moments together when living under Argus Panoptes' roof. He set the framework for their interactions by acting like they were one small weird happy family learning allsight together, but Jheselbraum was too independent and ambitious to see the family dynamic as more than play acting to win Argus' favour. Her rivalry with Bill was almost a game to her, and the chance to prove herself the victor was ingrained in her culture prior to arriving at Argus' domain.

I think Bill was the one more likely to fall for the farce. He is the poster child for lie until you're not lying anymore after all, and he arrived in Argus' domain at a time when he was reeling from the loss of his family and world and was desperate for another. Argus in particular was a parental proxy for him, and that role was cemented in the moments where he instigated the roles he expected them both to play ("Be nice to your sister") and the moments where he recognised Bill's talents and intervened in his more suicidal moments (braving the flames to stop him from destroying himself during the scrying session made an impact, only one other person (Stanford) ever braved the flames to comfort him as we see in the fic).

I think the timing of Bill killing Jheselbraum was important in the fic. When Argus turned on Bill and ripped his eye out as punishment for when he burned Jheselbraum, Bill accepted this punishment and left because he thought Argus was punishing him for what he did to Euclydia (an easy association to make as it would have been the first thing he looked into when granted allsight) and he for the most part maintained the boundaries Argus set, being nice to his sister (aka not killing Jheselbraum when she tried to sabotage him with Modoc and the prophecies) and not returning to the dimension of eternal night until he absolutely had to (and its interesting that the turning point that made him reach out was the instigation and furthering of another potential source of validation and comfort - his relationship with Stanford.)

Bill only killed Argus when he found out that Argus hadn't punished him for Euclydia but punished him for hurting Jheselbraum, the person who had been threatening him this whole time, threatening to unveil his misdeeds under Argus' not so watchful eyes.

So he lost another family dynamic because of her, years of potential belonging thrown out because she'd cried crocodile tears to turn Argus against him.

When he killed Argus, he had no reason to stick to his rules anymore, no hope of getting that familial belonging back, and he also finds out that Jheselbraum not only took Argus from him way back when, but she also put a metal plate in Ford's head, essentially cutting Ford off from him too. She had taken everything from him (cue the thematic repetition from chapter 32) and now it was Bill's turn to return the favour.

TLDR I think Bill held more sentiment for Jheselbraum than she did for him. She enjoyed their rivalry and game of oneupmanship, and built her success on the back of it, collecting followers and worship under the premise of 'saving' people from Bill. She probably believed her own lie too, readying herself for a great battle when Bill finally arrived in her domain to kill her, thinking herself capable but the truth beneath her rivalry was always her insecurity. She knew Bill was better than her, more powerful than she could ever be and her opposition became her undoing. At the end of the day, she just wanted to know what Bill did that was so terrible, what his hidden flaw was, his weakness so she could surpass him somehow but when she found out, she found out the hard way.
