Freakshows broken out of Arkam Asylum and he's got a brand new staff, an necromancer staff. No more ghosts! The ghostboy has to much experience fighting them. He has something more tangible. ZOMBIES!
On a train straight out of Gotham with 200 zombie dressed as clowns and splashed with joker gas to make them smile and laugh like all clowns should. On a one way track to Amity Park. But his main attraction won't cooperate. Solomon Grundy sits chained in a cage like a circus animal. The staff doesn't work on him and he just want to be left alone. No matter, it'll be enough to piss off that goth girl.

As much as I love fics of the Batfam dramatically reacting to the loss of Tim's spleen, here is what I want more of:
Bruce: So you don't have a spleen?
Tim: No, sir.
Bruce: Is Doctor Leslie aware?
Tim: She is.
Bruce: Do we have to be worried about whoever injured you coming to Gotham?
Tim: No, sir.
Bruce: Are you taking all required medication?
Tim: Yes, I am.
Bruce, releasing a sigh that is soul-deep: Okay.
Other Batkids: WHAT???
Bruce: Tim and Jason share the mantle of my Middle Child by age. They act like it. This isn't even the strangest thing I've learned about Tim.
Damian, Duke, Dick, & Cass: *all a mixture of sputtering and eyeing Jason & Tim suspiciously*
Jason: I'm offended but you're not wrong.
Tim: *shrugging in agreement and going back to whatever he was doing*

everyone wants batman to be treated like a human and have him lose to his kids... personally i think dc should lean into his unbelievable wins. need to defeat this insanely powerful supervillain? call batman. need to fight god? batman. no explanation whatsoever, just him winning quite literally impossible fights. sic him on capitalism next.

I think Alfred was probably a little relieved when Bruce came home from his travels/training with all of the whiny rich boy (literally) beaten out of him.
But also. I think a part of Alfred misses that whiny rich boy who can’t bother to look under the sofa for a missing pen.

Idk why this is so funny to me. Like imagine Bruce explaining this to someone.
Random Person: Oh Batman your new fighting style is so cool where'd you learn it
Random Person (Thinking): (ooh i bet it's some obscure master in some vaguely eastern place)
Batman: Me. I made it up.
Random person: Oh! that's cool too-
Batman: It's called Bam Pow.
Random Person: ...
Batman: I didn't pick the name.

Goodbye bad feelings, hello empty memory.
Alright, I love the idea of Damian and Danny as twin who love each other very much but for some reason split up or didn't get along but learn to do so because they love each other more than they resent each other, really, I swear, but.... Danny never remembers anything from his time in the league.
Absolutely nothing, maybe he had some memories before he died for the second time, maybe he remembers Damian and he misses him, he is his brother and he loved him and.... not anymore, when he has his accident and dies for the second time his memory is lost, for a while he has a hard time recognizing his friends, he opens his eyes and doesn't know who are the guys that look so desperate in front of him.
Time goes by and although there are memories that never came back (he hardly remembers his first years with the Fentons, let alone the ones before that), he improves, learns to use his powers, gets closer to his friends, learns things again.
He discovers things in his room, something about a past he no longer knows, it bothers him not to know but even though he tries to remember nothing comes back, the name "Damian" causes him nothing, reading a little of what he wrote after researching the language he also doesn't recognize, he decides it wasn't important, not anymore at least.
He reads what he can and decides that yes, there are things he is fine without remembering, maybe he lacks context, maybe there is something there that he should discover or be more interested in a past that seems so mysterious but... if when he remembered him he thought he would be happy now that he was far away, maybe he was just as important as Dash, someone who unfortunately won't let himself be ignored but one day he will leave behind and never think of him again.
Life is good.
Or was until Robin, Gotham's vigilante, ambushes him with a heated speech full of pain and resentment while on "vacation" with his parents in Gotham.
Danny has had weird things happen to him before but he usually has context.
Robin looks furious and about to cry (if his unsteady voice says anything), Danny stares at him, from his hair to the way he moves, he pays attention to his voice and his sword but all he can say is "you know me?" without acknowledging him in the slightest.

you know those instances when the pain of losing someone is too much and you consider forgetting them altogether? that, but Bruce chooses NOT to forget. instead, he'd rather remember Jason incorrectly. gaslighting himself is his coping mechanism. it's literally the opposite of honoring the dead
Oh, anon, you are really tugging on my heartstrings with this one. I completely agree. Honestly, to me, Bruce’s response to Jason’s death is unforgivable (not the immediate grief, but the way he rewrote the narrative). He destroyed Jason’s legacy, the piece him that should have lived on forever. Fifteen year old Jason Todd hardly had a chance to make a mark on the world. As Robin, he made a difference, he gave everything he had to making Gotham a better place, to standing up for people who didn’t have anyone else behind them. The public didn’t (couldn’t) know about Robin’s death, so the only keepers’ of that memory, of that legacy, was Jason’s family. And for completely selfish reasons, Bruce didn’t just obliterate it, he tarnished it beyond recognition. And he spread that poison to the next generation. As you said, it’s the opposite of honoring the dead.
To me, the true tragedy of Jason’s story is not that he died, that Batman didn’t save him, that he was a collateral damage in Batman’s crusade, that even after he came back begging for his Dad to choose him he still lost, that ultimately his death meant nothing. It’s that his father, the person that was supposed to love him most in life, made it so his life meant nothing. It’s heartbreaking.
I will never understand how dc decided to go from these two boys who loved each other so much (Batman #383):
Tumblr media
To a father, who, almost in the same breath, could say his son was responsible for his own death (Batman Hush):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then turn around and claim his son knew how much he loved him:
Tumblr media
To a father, who claimed his son was nothing more than rage (Batman 614).
Tumblr media
and recklessness (Detective Comics 790).
Tumblr media
That is tragedy.

i like the mostly fanon angst of bruce being a bad, or at least emotionally distant, mentor during tim's earlier robin years... but i think we're missing on the potential angst of the canon way bruce started as a careful, helicopter parent mentor to this gremlin that choose him, how they bonded over their shared grief and loneliness and mirror-narratives, until a number of tragedies (clench, no man's land, knightfall, later even red hood) pulls them apart, as bruce becomes bitter and paranoid and distant (tim's "birthday gift"), and tim has to deal with the weight of he as robin not being enough to keep bruce from darkness
like, when he goes in the brucequest, is he filled with doubts? does he ever ponders if bruce being away is better? when he brings bruce back, and sees him closer to what he was in the beginning of his partnership, but he is no longer his partner, and they no longer talk as they did....
and then damian dies and there he goes again, bruce's partner, bruce's crutch, does he ever looks in the mirror and sees bruce there?
