I have seen a lot of people try to make an argument that Jason doesn’t deserve sympathy for his death because pretty much every member of the bat family has died at some point. And while that is true, there is one crucial difference between Jason’s death and those of the other family members, and that difference is that Jason didn’t come home to a hug. He didn’t come home to people happy to see him. He didn’t even have people searching for a way to bring him back. When Damian died, Bruce was willing to bring Jason back to the site of his brutal murder and beat him up in an attempt to find a way to bring Damian back. Jason never got that. I’m not saying that they didn’t mourn Jason, but they certainly didn’t treat his death like the absolute tragedy it was. In the end, Jason was killed so that Bruce and Dick could have character development, and then proceed to slander his name and ruin his legacy, turning him into the angry, stupid Robin who died because he acted rashly when all he wanted was a family he could feel fully safe in. And when he finally came back as his own person, he was demonized for. I wonder a lot how different Jason’s story could have been if just once his family said “we are so glad you’re okay” instead of “How could you?”

Really the “good soldier” case wouldn’t feel so egregious if it weren’t for the fact that it’s the only thing that stands to honor him. The plaque says “good soldier” but the way everyone talks about him Jason was nothing but an ungrateful problem child too broken for Batman to fix. The plaque says “good soldier” but there’s nothing else to say “beloved son” too. The plaque says “good soldier” but it’s hidden away in Batman’s secret lair, where it will only ever be fuel for Bruce’s guilt and never in honor of Jason’s heroism as it purports to be.

“Good soldier” it says, and it feels like a mean joke. Not even literal soldiers get treated like this by their people.

my heart physically hurts when i think about how ALONE and abandoned jason must've felt after the whole garzonas incident.

maybe bruce can no longer look him in the eyes and neither can alfred. meal times aren't fun anymore because bruce stopped talking to him and he doesn't listen to jason anymore beyond making a "hm" noise every now and then. jason lives in constant fear and anxiety to the point of his body literally physiologically showcasing symptoms of those emotions-- his stomach always hurts, his head aches, his heart beat never slows down. he feels sick. he can't eat. he's always cramping.

he struggles to enjoy his classes and his teachers pick up on it but they never say anything because he's bruce wayne's child. he has nobody to talk to about how he's feeling because the kids at school dislike him. he has no hero friends. clark was always dick's hero so he doubts superman would want to help, especially since this is all jason's fault.

nobody talks to him anymore and he's scared and he's lonely and he doesn't know what he did wrong and why is the only voice he's hearing lately the one in his head

I know it varies from comic to comic, but I can't get on board with this take for how many times I've seen Jason be so incredibly real with Bruce, only for him to come at Jason with the most irreparable emotional gut punches, regardless of how he meant them.

This isn't even the only time I've seen Jason speak very openly about his feelings. And this is proceeding what Bruce always does, which is bring him into these situations, only to tell him "Get out" as soon as he's outlived his use.

a big reason some of you don't see what bruce does to his sons as abuse is because you unconsciously don't view men hitting other men or boys as abuse, or as serious as male on female abuse. it's the same reason dc doesn't think there's any problem with depicting bruce as someone who hits his kids. those kids are boys/men.

The sheer irony of seeing someone complain about "jason todd fatigue" on a bruce wayne/batfam fan account

Like oh, I'm sorry, fan of one of the two most popular superheroes of all time, that fanarts of my less popular fav is popping too often on your dash. We do tag him the best we can, but also we get attacked when maintagging ship art, and sometimes life is such that you'll find a post about a character you dislike despite blocking tags and users.

Sorry, the idea of "Jason todd fatigue" is just so funny to me. What a phrasing. I understand venting about having to see a character you dislike but, "jason todd fatigue". Especially in the context of complaining about how people seem to be making fanwork about the same comic over and over again and being tired of it and having to look for explanations about how jason fans are shallow and differ from true actual comic fans, etc etc etc etc. Like. Have you considered that maybe they create the fanwork because they find the character compelling and that his most famous comic is extremely popular?

Like, why does dc keep making art of Bruce holding his robins as the pieta- idk bro perhaps because the Pieta is cool as fuck. Maybe it's not about Jason being interesting from a shallow perspective because he's got only one shallowly interesting comic. Maybe someone who hates Jason and hasn't read his comics isn't the best judge of whether he has more than one "shallowly interesting" comic.

I'm just tired, like. You're allowed to dislike my fav. Really, you are. But it's fucking exhausting getting your intelligence denigrated and being denied entrance to that private little comic nerd club because you happen to like jason todd so of course that means you're only attracted to shallow stuff, of course you're not like actual true comic readers, of course there just has to be a meta reason for his popularity that proves others have superior taste because how dare you enjoy something that other comic fans don't enjoy you stupid little fangirl.

I'm not shallow. I'm confident in my intelligence and I have critical thinking skills and I do very much read the comics, and yet I love this character deeply. I'm not gonna start doubting any of those things about myself because some hater has decided that profound people wouldn't like his character. I also don't happen to always be theorising about why characters I dislike are popular, and if I believe anything about the reasons for their popularity it's from things their fans say about them- I don't understand the entitlement of thinking that people who hate jason would be better at explaining why he's popular than the people who actually find him compelling. It's so condescending.

Because you can block the jason todd tag and jason ship tags. I have the anti jason todd tag blocked. And yet I keep seeing people confidently insulting my intelligence/depth and gatekeeping being a comics fan like it's their professional job, and i would say that's a hundred times more annoying than seeing fanart of a character I dislike on my dash.

it comes off as a self performance if the preservation of innocence. yes be in danger and solve and intervene in horrific crimes, but don't forget about your bedtime, son. grueling training and broken bones but only on the weekends. how was social studies. it's perverse (positive)

yup! as cute as i find it, it also just adds to how jason was never treated his age. this might seem as though he's being treated like a kid, but you're not really being seen as the child you are if, in other areas, you're treated like an adult. why does he get to be a child only in certain circumstances

What do you filter to get good Japan stories on ao3, 👀 I find it hard to find them even the Jasan/original characters tag and filtering out some words/characters

hey! tbh it all really just depends on what you're looking to read. if you want jason centric, use that tag. if you don't wanna see a specific relationship, filter them out. stories are subjective so what i'd find good might not be what you find good! me personally though, i filter out tim drake tags because that's when i find what i think are good jason fics that tackle his character appropriately. tags like "jason needs a hug" "BAMF jason todd" "jason deserves better" etc are good character tags to focus on.

sladejay fics have good jason characterization often i'd say. and again, because i don't like tim having a major role in jason fics i read, i filter out any tags related to "attack on titans tower" "caregiver jason todd" and "enemy to caretaker"

another thing i do is go through bookmarks of fics i did enjoy because oftentimes, people who've bookmarked them have a similar taste to me

also i dont read jason x oc fics so i cant help you there! sorry if this doesn't help but i hope it does!! <3
