Hello, I am Ahmed from Gaza, a high school graduate with a GPA of 80%. I dreamed of becoming a nurse.
Despite my family’s poor financial situation, I enrolled in the bachelor’s program in nursing at Al-Aqsa University. I had begun to achieve my dream, as had my sister who enrolled after me in nursing.
But on one day, October 7, our dream began to be lost and shattered. Like many people in Gaza, our dreams became a thing of the past and could not be achieved. My university became home to many displaced people. After a while, the occupation destroyed it and destroyed my sister’s university, the University College of Applied Sciences
. Our life in displacement:
The war forced my family to flee our home. In the first month of the war, we became homeless. We went to refugee schools, but we were also displaced from them.
We almost slept in the street because we had no shelter, but we found a small room where we stayed for several months. After that, we were displaced to a small apartment where there were four families. We sometimes slept on top of each other because there was no space. Of course, one time we were displaced, we miraculously escaped death, as we went out to the bombing and shooting. Over our heads
in the first two months of the war, there was a famine in northern Gaza. We were being killed and dying just to get a little bread. To this day, the famine is still ongoing in northern Gaza. Of course, in addition to the famine, there is bombing, killing, the spread of diseases, and the lack of medicine. Our home was destroyed, and our lives and dreams were lost at the beginning.
The reason I started this campaign
Therefore, my family and I are seeking to obtain an amount of 50,000 euros to help us leave Gaza and continue our lives and dreams in education. Most importantly, it will allow us to support my family, who have been severely affected by the harsh conditions and high costs of living due to the ongoing war on Gaza.

Hi Mark,
My name is Isaac Holguin. I sent a detailed email regarding your work on the color pie over the years to [email protected]. I hope that is the correct avenue to reach out to you. I had the pleasure of being answered on this blog as well, so I thought I'd double check by contacting you here. In case the email listed isn't in service anymore, I've copied my message below. I hope this reaches you and that you're doing well. If you're able, I'd love to hear back at [email protected]. Thanks for all you do!
----------
Hello Mr. Rosewater,
My name is Isaac Holguin and I'm a nurse studying leadership and education in Tucson, Arizona. Before I get into the topic of my email, I'd just like to say thank you for being a spokesperson for Magic the Gathering all these years! I've played the game since I was thirteen years old, all through college, and well into my career. Magic the Gathering has helped me make new friends and deepen bonds with people I already had in my life. Though I've stopped participating in recent years, the game will always hold a special place in my heart and I've still got an Alpha Serra Angel that is as old as I am!
One of the best memories I have from my time with Magic was diving into the color wheel breakdown series from your "Drive to Work" podcast. During my pursuit of a Bachelors in Nursing Science, I often cited the color wheel as a tool to determine personality traits and compared it to other topics in my studies. Now that I'm pursuing my Master's degree in Nursing Education, I'm interested to see if there were any references or inspirations for the development of the color pie. With the recent popularity of the Myers-Briggs assessment (16 Personalities), Ten Faces of Innovation, and other similar tools I'd like to try and adapt the color pie as a leadership/personality assessment. I understand there will be multiple steps involved to publish such a study with respect to Hasbro and Magic the Gathering as a company, but I would like to attempt to lay the foundation of this project during my studies.
The goal of this project would be to introduce an existing, incredible, fun, and easy to use tool to a vast new audience. Helping others acknowledge that all aspects of the personalities presented exist within them to some degree and can evolve over time has become a core belief for me both personally and professionally. Examples of "your greatest weakness is your greatest strength pushed too far" and the idea that the capacity for good and evil exists in any aspect of a personality are incredible insights that I haven't seen cited enough throughout my studies. My wildest hope is that this tool would be utilized in coursework for multiple professions, similar to the curriculum I'm studying now, to help future leaders reflect on their strengths and develop effective leadership styles.
In short, I hope that you're doing well and would love to hear your insights, recommendations, and references for the work you've so passionately brought to thousands of others of the years. Even if you're unable to share certain aspects of your work, I'd like you to know that your endeavors have not only brought relief and happiness to healthcare workers like me, but that you've inspired so many others to apply the lessons of fictional works to improve our reality. The lessons gained from my long history with this franchise have helped me connect to others in their most vulnerable moments, and improve their quality of life. Thank you for all that you've done, and I wish you continued success in a field you've already become an exemplary expert in.
Sincerely,
Isaac Holguin
BSN, RN
I’m always excited to hear about ways people can use the color pie outside the context of the game. I’m not sure what I can do to help you.

If you don't mind me asking, what happened with the nutrition stuff?
The only in-state school accepting nutrition students as a second bachelor's degree is 300 miles away from the place where I can both work and afford housing.
At this point my options are:
Move to the area with the school, which would require quitting my job (losing my insurance!) and probably taking out loans to afford housing.
Take out loans to go to a nearby private school.
Take out loans to go to an out of state program with online classes.
The second and third options would probably cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $100k, and the first option would cost less but would mean there was no possibility of me working to pay for rent or insurance while finishing the degree. I'm just not willing to take on that level of debt for a field that I'm deeply interested in but that doesn't appear to pay well enough to justify that kind of debt when I'm approaching my forties and don't know if I'd be physically able to get through the internship required for certification.
If a local state school ends up opening up their nutrition program to 2nd bachelor's students, I would jump on that immediately, but both programs I was looking at two years ago are no longer open for students in my situation.
So it has nothing to do with losing interest or not being able to keep up with the work, I just plain can't afford it and am unwilling to take that much of a risk.
The community college I'm looking at for the computer science program is a lot more technical than my current school, and has a nutrition certification that is a lot more comprehensive than the classes I've been able to take so far, so I may end up doing some nutrition stuff while I do the computer stuff too.
I had considered getting a nursing degree (because there are a bunch of local state schools with nursing programs open) and focusing on nutrition once I finished that, but I realized that I just don't have the level of interest in nursing that I would need to go that route. The only reason I'm still involved with either computer classes or nutrition classes is because I'm genuinely interested, and I get the feeling that if I tried to finish nursing school I'd waste a lot of time and money and bail out, or I'd finish and I'd hate my options.
So computers and a growing resentment for the US education system it is!

You Need A Resting Season
What is a resting season?
As women, we pour so much into others (family, friends, siblings, pets) forgetting about ourselves. We work ourselves into overdrive feeling empty like life is passing us by and we don't know who we are or what we want. And if you feel this way you need a resting season, a resting season is like going into hibernation pulling away from the world and all of the unnecessary stress that we put on ourselves. While in your resting season, you are going to be quitting a lot of the things you used to do. A lot of high-stress activities that aren’t a priority such as school and work. This is the time for you to rest and pour into yourself. Work on the issues you have with yourself maybe you lack self-love, self-esteem, self-worth, or confidence maybe you want to lose weight and better your skin. It is time for you to invest in yourself and fix the things you can change and not worry about the things you can’t change. For every woman a resting season is different so it is important to know your priorities, the improvements you want to make, and what your resting season is for.
Signs you may need a resting season
♡ You are burned out. Even though are getting a full night of sleep you have this never-ending feeling of being tired of life, your daily cycle, your environment, and so on.
♡ Life isn’t fun anymore. You feel like you are in a never-ending cycle going from school/work to home. You could be giving too much of yourself to others, leaving no room for enjoyment, hobbies, and self-care.
♡ You're always worried. You may be feeling overwhelmed by all the tasks and obligations you have in life. You constantly have too many thoughts circling in your head never giving you the time to think.
♡ You don’t know what path you're going down. Maybe the dream career you thought wanted you do not want anymore, you have switched your major a bunch of times and still don't feel connected to it.
♡ Social media Is taking over your life. You spend hours on end on social media watching and reading toxic content and you need to step away and reconnect with yourself and the real world.
♡ You want to level up. You lack self-love and confidence you don’t like the person you see in the mirror anymore. She is tired, overworked, unhealthy, and doesn’t take time for herself.
These are just a few but there can be so many more reasons why you need a resting season.
I am currently in my resting season
Some of the reasons above resonated with me a lot I woke up one day and realized I was burned out I was stressing myself out with so many requirements to be perfect, rich, and live a certain lifestyle by a certain age. I switched my major in college a bunch of times I plan on graduating in 2025 with a bachelor in science of psychology but after I'm going to accelerated nursing school. I felt like a failure for a little while thinking I wasted 4+ years of my life chasing a degree that I don't even want now. I didn't like what I saw in the mirror and I had a lot of negative self-talk. But then it clicked to me I needed to check out from life for a little while and focus on myself and work on me. I wrote out my goals, what I needed to fix about myself, and the women I wanted to be coming out of this resting season. And I started that day working on myself I have changed a lot. I'm still in my resting season working on myself, investing in myself daily to become that woman of my dreams this is why I made this blog<3.
You can work on yourself without being in a resting season but I recommend resting seasons because they are better for focusing with no distractions other than things you must. If you feel a connection to this post maybe it is time for you to get into your resting season

Thank God it's (T.G.I.) Friday
Y'all remember T.G.I. Fridays?
It's story time Sissy Poohs!
I think this was two Christmas seasons ago.
Y'all know I love being on Holiday. I went back home to spend Christmas and New Years with my family back on the East coast.
Honestly, I don't like going back home too often. Certain aspects of being in my hometown makes me uncomfortable.
"Why does it make you uncomfortable Sarah"?
Since you asked:
Something I have experienced over the last two to three years is running into people I may have went to high school or college with back home who lack ambition and discipline or are just complacent and very content with where they are in life - except when they see me.
I say the following as humbly as possible: I may only be 26, but I have accomplished a tremendous amount in this quarter of a century, by the grace of God.
I graduated college at the age of 21 - Dean's list - with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry and a minor in Biology. During my collegiate career, I traveled to Europe as an intern at the University of Science and Technology. I also interned at one of the most profitable Pharmaceutical companies - in the world.
After college, I commissioned in the United States Army as a Chemical Officer and traveled the world. I was living right outside of Seattle, enjoying city life, looking good, smelling better, driving my man's BMW - really giving WAG (Wife and Girlfriend of professional athlete - that's how rich I was looking, okay) for real.
I also received two IT certifications as I was leaving the Army and am currently back in school taking prerequisite courses to enter into an Accelerated Bachelors of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. Did I mention I got straight A's this semester?
I'm also a home owner, a blogger and fiancée.
Oh, and I brought Sexy back, too. I'm over 20+ pounds down, eating healthy and working out 5-6 times a week.
Maybe its because I am an over achiever but this is really normal tempo to me and I actually feel like I could be doing more. But to people who chose not to do anything with their lives and are stationary, act weird when you pop up.
And to be clear, I don't really care about other people's complacency. But people act so weird when they see you - to a point where it's like "damn, what's good for real".
For example, one night my mom, sister and I went to TGI Friday's to grab a quick bite before heading to the movies.
By the way, I hate chain restaurants. But back in the day, like my high school and even some of my college days, TGI Fridays, Applebees, and Olive Garden used to actually be good. But the quality of the cuisine and and service has severely plummeted. That's why I typically avoid chain restaurants, five star plus, okay?!
Back to Fridays. We're seated by a hostess and the waitress was suppose to be someone I went to middle and high school with. But from what I could see, she saw me and asked another waitress to take the table. And no, it wasn't because she was busy; we were one of maybe three families seated.
Now for context. I was bullied a lot in middle school - which I'm not mad about because I feel like it helped me build character, personality and also taught me how to stand up for myself.
The waitress who avoided waiting on us like a coward, was one of those bullies.
I don't know if my success, or how beautiful I looked or even her own insecurities finally slapped the hell out of her, but she was visually in dismay.
Mind you, I'm very classy, so I said nothing. I informed my mom and my sister about the incidents that occurred in grade school and how she left me alone once I became a cheerleader on the high school team. When I first made the junior high team in the seventh grade - it was no longer bullying per say, but more of taunting, like "oh so you think you're something because you're a cheerleader"? I never said anything like that, but she obviously did since she paid so much attention to it.
Fast forward about ten years later, I'm just back home for the holiday to visit my sister and mother. I moved away a long time ago.
I don't use Facebook as much, but I made my Facebook back in high school, meaning people I went to school with were Facebook friends with me. The very few times I go on there to check on family members the I may not get a chance to talk with as often, I see what everyone has been up to, or lack of movement actually.
Everyone (not really everyone, but a lot of people) is either in jail, a single mother, crashing out and looking terrible or reminiscing about junior high or high school which is wild to me. I wouldn't say I didn't have fun in high school, like come on, I was on the varsity cheerleading team since I was a freshman, I had fun.
But high school is not the highlight of my life. Like let's be for real: I look back at my pictures from high school, and even college like "eew". Not because I was ugly, but that was a while back where how I dressed, did my hair and makeup, you couldn't pay me to look like that anymore. It's called evolving. And as great as my life has been, I still don't actually feel like I have experienced the best days of my life yet. Not because I am not grateful, but because I do know and believe I haven't reached my fullest potential yet. I'm headed in the right path, but there are still better days to come. And in the words of my fiancé, "life begins at 40".
Back to homegirl.
After she avoided me the whole time, I went to the restroom because I needed to use the bathroom, obviously. As I am leaving the bathroom, homegirl runs into me, and couldn't even look me in my face as she was saying "excuse me".
Again, I don't know if it was jealousy, hate, or maybe even guilt. Homegirl was really mean to me - for no reason. Now that I am older, and understand why people, girls and women specifically, act the way they do, she probably had a lot going on at home and the only way she could get attention was to be the school mean girl, loud, boisterous, and hella ghetto. Does that pardon her behavior, no. And I honestly forgot about her halfway through high school. If I didn't see her at TGI Fridays, homegirl would never cross my mind.
I hope she finds the reassurance and self-worth she was craving all these years, because it seems that she still may be craving it.
I hope that for anyone who was weird to me growing up who acts even weirder now.
I brought up all of my accomplishments in the beginning because, sometimes I really do forget that I have done a lot, and when you as a person are doing well, it brings people's insecurities and lack of achievements to the surface for them.
Don't ever make yourself or your accomplishments smaller to cater to people's insecurities. That means, if going into certain spaces makes you feel like you're bragging, don't go to those places. You don't have to accept all invitations. Further more, be weary of people who are condescending and make you feel like you're bragging, major red flag.
Since I don't do New Year's Resolutions, what I will say is this: I have chosen to move with intentionality since 2022 and I will continue to do so. I will keep achieving all of my goals. I will keep my relationship with God at the forefront of my life, I will marry my fiancé, I will be financially savvy this year, and I will continue to slay, because that's what real bad gyals do.
With Love,
The Original and the Only,
Sarah Chanel
P.S.
Again, Merry Christmas!

What I think the demigods would major as and why
these are personal head canons dont take them too seriously :)
Percy: Education. I know that we usually hc as a Marin biology kinda guy but I genuinely think that he wouldn't be too fond of the workload but instead want to work towards being a teacher and being the kind of teacher he needed as a kid, y'know? Alternatively, I can see him being into something like baking and pastry art to take over Sally's shop.
Annabeth: Architecture. I really don't think I need to explain this one to y'all but yeah she's an architecture girly. But if we want to branch out I can also see her studying law and working in the area of Child Protection.
Leo: Astrophysics. I have this head canon of him panicking because of the sheer amount of choices that he's presented with and choosing the first one of the alphabetical list. Lucky for him, he's insanely good at it AND it'll pay well in the future. He minors in mechanical engineering and realises that although he has all the practical knowledge because of his father, his theoretical knowledge isn't as strong lol.
Piper: Food Science. I'm trying to be unique here because yeah, she could do environmental studies but I also think it would be super cool to see her learning about food and developing new vegetarian versions of food because it's something she's visibly passionate about in the books.
Nico: I can see him getting a history / philosophy related degree for his bachelors just for him to get a doctor of philosophy (Ph. D.) in mythology or folklore. His hyperfixation runs deep and he sure as hell is going to fuel it as much as he can.
Jason: Doesn't go to college!! Is severely burnt out <3. No but like idk man I think he'd legitimately want to take it chill if that makes sense? Maybe he'd do a business major just so that he can get a job somewhere but I can't think of somewhere he'd fit in nicely. Jason does have a lot of part time jobs though!!
Frank: Nurse! Nursing school! Despite being the son of Mars I can see him being in the medical field because he wants to help people in need. It's a long journey with lots of ups and downs but finally getting his degree makes it all worth it.
Hazel: Geology because rocks. And also women in STEM!! This one directly correlates to her powers in the books as well as both of her parents! On the other hand, I can see definitely see Hazel studying in the field of archeology with the goal of being an archeologist and then eventually a museum curator :)
Reyna: Psychology!! Listen, I know this seems out of the blue but Reyna gives me the right vibes. Everyone is skeptical at first because they don't think she'd fit the mold of a clinical psychologist but that's okay because Reyna wants to further herself in research! She studies Neuropsychology and becomes a prominent researcher in her field! Please tell me you see the vision.
Will: From what I can see in the books, Emergency Medical Services degree seems like the right field for him. He's already basically a paramedic at Camp Half Blood so he knows it's naturally the right step for him. On the other hand, for something a little different - he seems like the kind of guy who might be interested in studying cinematography or art history maybe.
Travis: He studies Economics because he's so fucking convinced that he can become the next Elon Musk if he studies this. Alternatively, he studies music because he wants to travel the world and like sing with the wind and all that shit.
Connor: he's a communications major because he's a really popular youtube and technically doesn't really need to go to college but oh well he can study communications.
Drew: She goes to cosmetology school as the first step to start her own makeup and skincare empire. She's super nice to all of her clients and helps out all of the other students when they're having trouble with something! I will not tolerate any Drew slander let my girl breathe.
Pollux: Chemical Engineering. He got influenced by watching breaking bad and somehow landed himself a degree in chemical engineering. He doesn't know how he survived that degree but it doesn't matter because he decides to not give a fuck and open a coffee shop that becomes really popular because all the drinks are to die for.
Thalia: I don't really know the right terminology but she has an art related degree / tattoo apprentice so that she can work as a tattoo artist!! It fits with the thalis vision and also she is the eldest daughter who loses it lowkey so she doesn't follow your usual education route. Tattoo artist Thalia for the win!!

HCs for Modern Day 1st Platoon sharing a house (throwing in my oc for the fun of it)
After 9/11, they all joined the US Army. They went to basic together, all Infantrymen.
In 2010, during a mission, they all were under attack and began to get surrounded. They all sustained serious injuries that got them honorably discharged from the Army.
After being sent back to the States, they all decided to buy a house together in Helena, Montana.
Using the new Post 9/11 GI bill, the six of them decided to pursue a higher education to start their new lives
Robert Zussman is in nursing school
Ronald Daniels wants to pursue a career in sports medicine. He helps run an after-school program for children and teenagers, being the football and baseball coach.
William Pierson is getting a bachelor's in Literature and Creative Writing, having written a book already about his time in Afghanistan with 1st Platoon.
Joseph Turner is getting a bachelor's in History
Drew Stiles, having been in college before 9/11 and stopping his education to join, continued to pursue a career as a professional photographer and plans to shine light on what is going on in the Middle East with his photos
Frank Aiello works at a high end restaurant as a server, but is in culinary school to become a professional chef.
Nancy is getting a bachelor's in Political Science and Homeland Security
Now to the fun: the house is almost always in a state of chaos
There's bickering, arguments (that Nancy and William have to separate otherwise it would turn into a full blown physical altercation)
Joseph is the mom of the group, he is the one often cooking and cleaning and making sure everyone has what they need, goes where they're supposed to go, and always lends a hand or shoulder
William is the dad, the stern, strict one that threatens to kick them out of the house of they don't stop fighting or lower their goddamn music at midnight
Nancy is the Disneyland parent, but she can be strict. She usually let's the four younger ones get away with random shit, and at first they were all intimidated of her because she was so stoic and deadly in the Army. But they warmed up to her and she got soft for them, but if they do shit that threatens their lives, then she's gonna kill them
They all face issues of being Veterans in a growing society that is solely dependent on the media. They face discrimination and hardships, and since they were all young when they joined the Army, they still have to discover who they are as a person
But despite the petty fights and the teasing and their differences, at the end of the day, they are a family and they will do anything to take care of each other

A quick guide on what different titles mean in my posts
(Since education AND healthcare systems vary around the world).
Medical Student (4.5-5 years)
You can get into medical school straight out of high school. College degrees do exist, but they are not the norm, not for medicine, and not for any career, tbh.
You fist 2-3 years are mostly theory. Calculus, chemistry, biology, anatomy, histology, embriology, physiology, pathology, physiopathology, microbiology, pharmacology…. That period end with semiology, and you get a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Science.
Then, for the next 2 years, you have your clinicals, in which you spend half of the day in the hospital, with patients, and half the day in class, but definitely more focused on patient care and management.
Med student in clinicals = baby of the team (most of the time).
When you finish, you get your Academic Degree, Licenciate in Medicine.
Medical Intern (1.5-2 years)
No longer a student, you are now in your professional practice. Although you are technically still in med school in your university, you can say goodbye to classes, since you’re now a worker.
Probably bottom of the food chain, and probably does all the paperwork that nobody wants to do, but it’s a period where you gain a lot of independence and knowledge through work.
When you finish, you get your Professional Title, Médico Cirujano, but also need to pass a national test (EUNACOM) in order to be able to work.
Once you are a Doctor, you can work with that, or you can specialize.
Resident Doctor
A doctor, who is both working and studying towards a specialty.
Staff
Doctor who is on charge of a team. Tends to be an specialist.
Other titles that may cause confusion:
CNA: I use CNA to refer to TENS (Técnico de Enfermería de Nivel Superior). Technical degree (2.5 years). Takes care of patient’s basic needs, vital signs, may administer non-prescription medications.
Scrub tech: An specialized TENS. Takes care of the surgical instrumental and the sterile field in the OR.
Other TENS specializations: (that aren’t shared with other workers) Ambulance paramedic, anesthesia tech, trauma tech (takes care of plasters).
Medical Technologist: University degree (5Y). In charge of handling the machines and advanced technology equipment. They have 5 sub-specialties: ENT, ophthalmology, morphophysiopathology, blood bank and radiology.
Kinesiologist: University degree (5Y). They encapsulate both Physical Therapy and Respiratory Therapy.
Midwife: University Degree (5Y). Kind of like L&D nurses. Also in charge of reproductive health (i.e inserts IUDs, tests for STIs). Can assist births without a doctor if uncomplicated.
Other professionals that may not need further explanation:
Nurse.
Nutritionist.
Speech therapy.
Occupational therapy.

An Introduction to My Blog
I deleted my original intro a while ago, but I want to get back into blogging again so here's a new one!
DNI: MAPs, k*nk/fetish or NSFW blogs, TERFS/radfems I am a goth so if that bothers you, you probably shouldn't interact either.
Please call me Roxie ♡ she/her I am a full time college student, pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing with a certification in poison control; Someday, I hope to be a house nurse for people out in the country side or that also do homestead living ♡
I struggle with very intense OCD and anxiety, and I am also diagnosed with autism. From time to time I may post about the medications I'm on, how my labs went or other things like that but I will try to keep the more "vent" posts to a minimum For the main things that I will be posting about:
Homemaking, embracing femininity and selfcare
Homestead / Traditional living when it comes to things like gardening, sewing and taking care of oneself when it comes to injuries or sickness
Holistic health
I also love horror books and psychological horror, and just books in general so I will more than likely posting a ton of book reviews on what I'm reading ♡
