It is really clear now again, that whatever is going on with the Matron and whatever is going to happen with Vax as her champion, Vax is continuously choosing it. And there are other things involved, how he first came to be it and all but it is a choice still and he would not and still will not make a different one.

He asked the Matron again and the Matron was clear. He could walk on his own and Vax said that he would serve her, and so he stays hers.

And he does say that he longs for a life with Keyleth, and he misses his friends a lot, and being the Matron's Champion might not be the perfect life for him or the perfect life he wants, but he will serve the Matron as long as he can even if it means never having a life with his friends and family as before.

And it is so sad and so tragic but I do love that the Vax who we first met who was flaundering has found what he wants to do with a clear goal.

That doesn't mean that I don't wish he could have his perfect life. But if Vax never gets to live amongst his friends again, I do hope Keyleth will finally be able to move on after this whole thing.

Orym and Caduceus are canonically the smallest and the tallest people between Bells Hells and the Mighty Nein, and I had way too much fun drawing my interpretation of Orym's perspective next to a giant-kin.
